I haven't seen it and now I'm disappointed because I thought it might actuallu be good but from what I've heard it was a total flop.

Kinda like Ant-Man, there was a lot of potential there but the plot was so rushed and the characters so shallow I almost regretted paying to see it.

Must've seen a different Ant-Man, then. Ant-Man was one of the better MCU Movies, to be honest.

I think the concepts in it were really good but there was very little character development (except for Pym, Pym was awesome) so I didn't really care about most of the characters. They should have played up Scott's distress over not being able to see his daughter more than they did, but they brushed over that part of the story fairly quickly. And the end where Yellow Jacket is holding the girl hostage you just don't even care, because her importance was hardly developed (even though they made a few nice parallels with Pym's relationship to his daughter, again it was underdeveloped so while it was like "yeah that's nice" it didn't really resonate with me).

The tech was really cool and I loved the inclusion of the original Ant-Man and Wasp, also his trio of outlaw buddies were pretty fun. I mean it wasn't a bad movie, and had a lot of good points and some funny moments (though a lot of the humor seemed forced) and overall I enjoyed it but I don't think I'll watch it again anytime soon.

At least I know the sequels will be better.

But how dare I have any sort of standards for the things that entertain me, you're right, I'm so sorry.

To be fair though, I guess most Marvel pilot movies (is that what you call it when you're introducing/creating a new hero?) are like that. And the sequels always seem better because you already know not to expect too much from the character.

Although, it's not like there isn't a lot of great character development going on in the original comics, even though at the end of the day they're just comics.

Eh, whatever. It's hard to stop analyzing the crap out of everything after you've spent 16 months analyzing the crap out of everything.

CHARACTER IN MARVEL MOVIE LACKS CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENT

But Guardians of the Galaxy exists

Also the Iron Man trilogy was all character development, so was Thor. The only really egregious examples of shit character building in Marvel movies I can think of are in Cap 1 and Avengers 2.

And that's not even entirely true for Avengers 2, it was just centered around Hawkeye because??? And even then, the real good actors managed to improv some development for their characters though (See; Black Widow, Iron Man, Nick Fury). What was horrible was how they handled Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver, but that's getting into something else entirely.

I haven't seen Antman or FF. I'm hoping everyone's just being overly critical of FF and it actually does great though, because if it doesn't that pretty much means there's no chance of getting She-Hulk into the MCU.

Shulkie is my bae.

EDIT: Wait so they at least included DOOM in it though right

Almost every Marvel movie has an underdeveloped villain.

That's how I can make sweeping statements like "Every Marvel movie lacks Character development in some form."

Well by that argument you could say most works of fiction lack character development in some form, and sometimes that's done on purpose-- like it isn't bad that every major character isn't completely human. For the most part I think the MCU is pretty good about protagonist/antagonist development, save for a few sore thumb examples.

The one villain they put some thought into.

Look what happened with that.

The only reason Loki has had success is because his actor is british, he's tall, pale, and lanky and he's the "Misunderstood son of a disapproving father WAAAAAAAH" and that really hits close to home with most people who like him.

In other words, he had a depth that many people could relate to because the writers developed his story into an experience that felt personal to the audience, however overused "daddy issues" is, any cliché plot point can be portrayed well if you just give it a little work.
