The Black Warden

Most Holy, Divine Victoria.

Minrathous is gone and the Imperium is crumbling. Three days ago, as the mid morning markets were reaching their peak of business, I was following a messenger of Magister Tilavus. As per your orders I had been keeping tabs on the Magister, due to the likelihood of him succeeding Archon Radonis. His imperialist and expansionist views were quite concerning. This is all moot now as on the day I was tailing the messenger a great tremor began to shake the city. This was no mere earthquake and I have no doubt it's effect were felt even as far as Orlais. The very ground opened up beneath the city, swallowing entire districts in an instant. The Imperial Chantry, the Senate, all of it was destroyed. I cannot begin to guess at the death toll. However the worst was yet to come. Before the dust had even begun to settle, waves of Darkspawn swarmed out of the great fissures the tremors had torn in the earth. I was forced to flee the city, lest I perish and be unable to report. At first I believed this to be the beginning of yet another Blight. The idea of two Blights occurring within a single lifetime is unthinkable, but what else could it have been. However something was different. The Darkspawn were not swarming mindlessly as in a Blight, they moved with the precision and discipline of a trained army, and I saw no sign of an Archdemon. And then there was the Warden. I saw him at a distance but for a few moments, yet it was enough for me to understand that he was in charge of the Darkspawn horde. They deferred to him, made way for him, and any who were too slow were slain where they stood. He wore the armor of a Grey Warden but it was all wrong, his armor was black as night and everywhere he walked, the very ground died and blighted beneath his feet. His sword radiated corruption and evil. You know that I am no coward, yet I fled from the sight of this creature, fear giving me speed enough to escape the city. I am returning to Orlais to give a report in person, but I felt this news grave enough to send a raven ahead of me with this message. This Darkspawn horde and the Black Warden leading it are beyond anything I've ever seen, Most Holy. I pray you have the wisdom to find a way to stop this because if you can't I fear this crisis may be the end of us all.

Setting

Many days ago a great tremor shook all of Thedas. In places like Rivian and Ferelden, the earthquakes did little more than knock over a few shelves, but in Tevinter it was devastating. However the quake was simply a symptom of a far greater threat. From beneath the earth came hordes of Darkspawn, marching with the discipline of a well trained army, and at their head was a figure from nightmare. A man cloaked in the armor of Warden, but twisted and black, radiating the evil and corruption of the Blight with every step he took.

In the weeks since it's appearance this Darkspawn army has marched on much of the Tevinter Imperium, crushing any who stand in their way. They have spread east into Antiva, however the bulk of the army's attention is focused on the south, on Nevarra. Even now the Darkspawn Army camps in the Silent Plains, barely held at bay by the desperate Navarran forces. Pleas to the Wardens of Weishaupt in the Anderfels for aid have, strangely, gone unanswered. The Wardens of the North are silent.

Once Nevarra is conquered, it is only a matter of time before the Darkspawn spread into all of Southern Thedas. Knowing this The Wardens of the South, under the Acting Warden Commander of Ferelden have convinced Orlais and Ferelden to combine forces, forming the Southern Allied Forces, a great army with which they intend to push back the Darkspawn and take the pressure off of the beleaguered Navarran army.

As the Southern army assembles, the Divine has put out a call for all heroes of talent to come together. With them she intends to create a special force, capable of moving ahead of the army and preparing the way.

Recent Events

The Fifth Blight
When the Fifth Blight broke out, the Daughter of the noble Cousland Family of Ferelden found her family slain by treachery, and was conscripted into the Grey Wardens. During her quest to stop the Blight she installed Behlen as King of Orzammar, prevented the Ferelden Circle of Mages from being wiped out, avenged her family, deposed the traitor Loghain, helped Alistair become the King of Ferelden, and became both his Queen and the Commander of the Grey after successfully stopping the Blight and surviving, thanks to the help of a little black ritual.

The Grey Schism
The fact that the Warden Commander of Ferelden was both Warden and Queen meant the Grey Wardens of Ferelden shared a close bond with the people and politics of Ferelden. Before the Warden Commander vanished in pursuit of a cure for the Calling, leaving the Wardens in the hands of a trusted Acting Commander, she had reforged the Wardens under her from an army devoted solely to killing Darkspawn, to an order devoted to protecting the innocent and powerless. The Wardens of the Weishaupt considered this to be a violation of the Warden's vaunted neutrality and after receiving several demands and veiled threats from the First Warden of Weishaupt, the Warden Commander of Ferelden cut off all contact with their Northern Brothers, declaring the Southern Warden's independence.

The Champion of Kirkwall
Forced to flee Ferelden during the Fifth Blight. The woman who would come to be known as The Champion, settled in the Free Marches city of Kirkwall. Here she embarked on many adventures, but none quite so earth shaking as the destruction of the Chantry. Knight Commander Meredith's mistreatment of the Mages under her custody had created a powder-keg just waiting for someone to strike a match. A mage named Anders was the one to set it all off. He destroyed the Kirkwall Chantry, bringing the confrontation between Mages and Templars to a head. When Meredith called for all Mages in the city to be put to the sword, the Champion leapt to their defence. A mage herself, she simply couldn't stand by and allow this injustice to pass. When it turned out that Meredith had gone mad from Red Lyrium, The Champion defeated her, ending her rampage. Despite his actions, the Champion was unable to kill Anders, instead she demanded he leave Kirkwall and never return. But the damage had been done, and the Mage-Templar war began not long after.

The Inquisition and the Breach
When a Conclave held by the Divine at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, in an attempt to broker peace between Mages and Templars was destroyed. Only one person survived an Elven girl and Mage named Lavellan. She became leader of the Inquisition, using her Mark to seal the rifts into the fade opened by the destruction of the Conclave. Her investigations of what had happened led her to Corypheus an ancient Tevinter Magister and one of the first Darkspawn. Inquisitor Lavellan saved the Mages from Corypheus' Ventori, accepting them as free allies and crushed the Red Templars. She finally defeated Corypheus and sealed the Breach in the sky, leaving just a scar of light to remind the world how close it had come to annihilation. In the aftermath of Corypheus' defeat, the Spymaster Leliana was elected at the new Divine, taking the name Divine Victoria. She set about rebuilding the Chantry from the ground up, changing it into a place that welcomed all races with open arms and giving the Mages the freedom they had fought so hard for. Her earnest compassion quickly won over any opponents that stood in her way. As for the Inquisition, under Levellan they set about reforging the shattered Templars and Seekers of Truth. Who better than a Mage to understand the dangers of Magic. Lavellan was determined that the Inquisition would forever guard the world against the dangers of Magic, without becoming oppressors.

Personality: Mirianne is the picture of serene beauty. She never seems to get angry or lose her patience. Her faith in the Maker is unshakable, to point where she will sometime use the Chant of Light in conversation. That said, her real world knowledge is sometimes lacking, giving her a somewhat naive view of the world.

History: Even a glistening gem of a city like Val Royeaux has it's dirty underbelly. Mirianne's family were dirt poor, living in the hidden slums of the holy city. When Marianne's mother was pregnant she fell deathly ill and no healer within her father's price range could help her. Desperate her father undertook the difficult pilgrimage to the Frostback Mountains, hoping to visit the Temple of Sacred Ashes and return with a pinch of the fabled Ashes of Andraste.

The journey was difficult and fraught with danger, and when Mirianne's father returned to Val Royeaux, he was near to death. As was his wife, but fortunately he had brought the ashes in time. They were used to mix a draught that she swallowed moments before going into labour. The birth was long and sadly neither Mirianne's Mother, nor her exhausted and injured father survived. However they both lived long enough to hear their daughter's first cries and, it is said, they passed with smiles.

Mirianne was taken in by the Chantry and raised to be a Sister. However as she grew she showed some interest in the Templars and underwent some informal training alongside them. Her teenage years were disrupted by the Mage-Templar War and the Death of Divine Justinia which threw the Chantry into chaos. It was during this time that Mirianne began to speak of the Voice. A soothing Voice that told her everything would be fine. She spoke of this to the other Clerics, telling them not to worry, that the Voice said all would be well. Scrambling to replace the Divine left the Clerics with little time to listen to the ramblings of a young Sister, and so she went largely ignored.

Once the crisis was over and Divine Victoria was elected, the new Divine came to hear of this sister who claimed to hear voices. Having once believed herself to hear the Voice of the Maker, she went to see Mirianne in person. Mirianne was interviewed by the Divine and all of the College of Clerics for weeks and in the end they all agreed unanimously that Mirianne had been touched by the Maker.

Most believed that the Ashes of Andraste had made Mirianne more receptive than most to the Light of the Maker, while some of the more extreme clerics believed she had been made into a Vessel for Andraste's soul itself. Whatever the truth, the Divine took Mirianne to her side, naming her the Right Hand of the Divine and ensuring her training continued. When news of the Darkspawn invasion reached Divine Victoria, she placed Mirianne at the head of her task force.

Device Mastery- "You know, putting up traps and locking doors is a good way to tell people what you've got back their is valuable." Easily allows the disabling of traps and locks in the way.

Master stealth- "Hiding in plain site is easy, so is hiding in shadows, but hiding on a battlefield that takes cunning." Able to move silently even on a battlefield and remain undetected through various clever means.

Master Archer- "An apple? Put a grape on his head, I'm no amateur." Gifted with the skill of archery arrows are precise and lethal.

Distraction- "Darkspawn! ...Oh no their weren't any actual Darkspawn I just said that to distract the guards, your gold and jewelry please." The rogue comes up with a clever distraction to cause enemies to move from the path.

Captivating song- "My singing has been compared to magic and power of demons, a Templar once claimed that I had to be abomination. I explained to her that I wasn't back in my room." The bard sings a song that floats on the wind man, beast, and even Darkspawn have been left unable to move from it's perfect notes.

Personality: Athel is Dalish in origin however his clan dissolved about seven years ago thanks to the dangers and trouble that had plagued them. He respect his culture and heritage but also mixes well with humans laughing and drinking alongside them. A thief and bard he can leave a crowd speechless and the purse's empty. Even for an Elf Athel is very pretty, which has served him well in the spy trade. One the best bards available he serves short term contracts with clients and completes his work flawlessly. With acting as one of his strong suits no one can be sure if they ever truly know him.

Those who are close with him report him to be quiet and thoughtful. A talented story teller and lyricist, yet he speaks of strange things like the meaning of world. Origins of the fade and even if the gods are real at all, perhaps this strange rogue is more than just your average bard. Perhaps he is more suited working with mages on field assignments rather than stealing jewels from a noble. He is certainly intelligent enough and curious enough to work with them.

History: Growing up in a Dalish clan, Athel was training under the clan story teller and teacher. Of course he also learned the ways of the hunter but those would not be perfect until later in his life, from a young age Athel lead the clan in song. With little practice he found his talent in singing, however as grew bored of stories he and the hunter apprentices would sneak out and set traps and sometimes enter human towns bartering for things they could not get.

However with the death of Keeper and the first the clan dissolved and many went to find new clans to join. Athel however felt that his family would need money so taking work as a Bard in Orlais he scrapped fifteen gold and sent them on their way. He however had to remain and soon took a liking to the city, he and sister still exchange letters and he often writes songs for her. His family lives in Ferelden with one of the clans there having made a new life for themselves among the elves their.

Athel meanwhile learned how to trick people, improved his archery, and perfected lock picking which he found was rather similar to disarming traps. His singing and acting skills improved a bit through his natural talent was quite sufficient. The young bard contacts have recently confirmed the massing of a grand army built of Ferelden and Orlais standing forces to aid in the fight against the Darkspawn. If they reach Ferelden his own family is in danger, so packing his possessions and finishing his last job he's gone to see if he can aid this force in anyway.

Spirit Blade: "Not all mages are defenceless up close, some even use that to their advantage, I'm no different." The user summons a blade from the fade to attack enemies at close range and reflect projectiles back at foes and the for, of a shockwave.

Fade Clock: "I use the fade as a clock and shield, but also as a weapon." The user surrounds themselves with magic of the veil to become intangible and walk though people and beast. Reacts violently if the user uncloaked themselves inside a foe, very bloody and gory.

Barrier Master: "Magic is more then fire, lightning and ice, it can be used to ward away injuries, if a Mage can't master barriers they are good as dead." The user creates barriers to surround himself and his party which keeps them safe until it runs out or has been dispelled.

Spirit Medium: "I have a connection with the Fade that most lack, even amongst my follow mages." The user attracts spirits and can command them easily compared to others, but they also attracts demons.

Master Herbalist: "The skills I have gathered since the rebellion has been useful for me and others that is of need of skills." The user can identity herbs and with the right materials they can make useful potions in and out of combat.

Personality: Callum is a dedicated and protective man who is wise beyond his years. He abhors violence often wishes to avoid needless bloodshed and talk though it, but he knows that violence cannot always be avoided so when need be, he will defend others to his end. He will work hard on what he believes is right no matter the pain he will need to go though to reach it. Callum acts much older then he is, often acting as a parental figure to others giving advice and supporting others. He is also stupidly stubborn, he will never give up on others even they don't deserve it or reaching for a goal that beyond his reach and rarely asking for help and he often turns it away when someone does ask.

History: Callum was born to minor Ferelden nobles the youngest of seven children. The Lowell's has always despised the fact that magic runs though their veins strongly, due to them being a pious family sending many children to the chantry or to train them as Templars. But even as a child Callum was an embarrassment to them, as he showed signs of magic at a young age, and he even talked to spirits at such a young age. He was despised by his siblings and parents, but he was taken away by Templars before they could punished the child for his magic. But they said many things that would influence Callum as a person, since he doesn't wish to be petty and abusive as his family. He kept his family name to remind them that he exist and he revealed their secret to Thedas.

Callum hated the Ferelden Circle, he hated the sense of fear and loathing that hovers over every room and floor, the glares of Templars and Priests, and the despair that every Mage showed on their faces and even the way they walk, the fearful whispers about the newest tranquil, the sobbing at night before sudden silence, the hollow voices of the tranquils. He hated it all. But he kept studying and perfecting his spells so he could go above what the Templars expect of him, with the help of spirits he was able to beat the Harrowing quite easily.

After his Harrowing he was sent to Oswick for they lack any spirit mages during the time, this was a year before the Fifth Blight, he counts himself lucky to have been transferred the year before. It was his time here that he studied the way of the Knight Enchanter. Even though he disliked the Circle of Magi and by extension the Chantry as a whole, he was loyal to the common people and his follow mages for they were the only allies he has known in his life so he used his body and magic as a sword and shield to protect others from both the dangers of magic and those who wish to target those that are feared or hated.

Callum raised in the ranks in the circle but it all became moot once the rebellion started, Callum joined the rebel mages not wanting to turn his blade and staff to the people he protected with his life. Like all others during and after the Breach it was a difficult time of adjusting to a new world and a new Divine, but he feels that it was for the best, though he wish more people should be living. But he will defend this new Thedas from the likes of the Black Warden that wish to blight it.

Name: Ser Gyles Ardland (nicknamed One-Eyed Gyles)

Appearance:
Ser Gyles is a muscular man and about six feet two tall. His hair and beard are raven black, although his hair is cropped. He has strikingly blue eye, as he has lost his left eye in the battle of Ostagar. Gyles has a lot of scars, and across his face there's a long, pale scar. Gyles is highly accomplished swordsman, mostly using a shield and a bastard sword. During the Fifth Blight he was also taught how to use a longbow.

Abilities:
Assault: Because the darkspawn and other foes need a shield to a face occasionally. Several times. In a row.
Shield Mastery: Hiding behind a shield, eh? Craven! *Clunk!*
Melee Archer: Bodkin arrows and longbows never fail in close quarters, trust me!
Threaten: Threats and grunts are the new form of motivation!
Motivate: When war cries just don't cut it.

Personality:
One-Eyed Gyles is a veteran of dozens of campaigns and battles. He knows the dirty tricks of the battlefield, but he has a code of honor he follows. Strong in body and mind, he is decisive and determinant. He is a man who's words and orders men follow. To the public he seems like a great commander and a natural-born fighter. Personally, he has seen much bloodshed and chaos during his years as a mercenary and his experiences has left a mark on him. He has tendency to melancholy and not being very talkative to strangers.

History:
A native Fereldan and born to lower nobility, Gyles became a knight and served in the king Cailan's army for a few years. Gaining experience as an officer in a cavalry company, he fought in the doomed battle of Ostagar, but could escape with a fragment of his company. Around 90 percent of his company died at Ostagar. Gyles lost his left eye in the battle and was feverish for a few days. A refuge healer helped him to recover and assume command of the company.
Escaping the darkspawn horde, the company headed northwards, gathering survivors and refugees along the way, passing Lothering just before the town was raided by the darkspawn. Soon, Gyles had a rag tag company of cavalrymen, infantry, engineers and longbowmen. Gyles started a small-scale guerrilla campaign against darkspawn, targeting mostly small scouting units.
During the war, Gyles' company was very successful. After the war, Gyles found his family dead and lands devastated. On the other hand, he had found leading men and warfare highly exciting. Barreling around Ferelden for a two years offering his services to many lords, he was refused by almost every lord. Taking what money and riches he had left, Gyles set out to the northern Thedas, pursuing a career of a mercenary and founded the Black Hearts Company.
Many years later, he retired his command of the Black Hearts Company to a younger captain called Lucas Castellano and came back to Ferelden. After a decade of mercenary work, he bought a small holdfast and a farm. He thought he had left his past life behind him, but only one bad harvest later Gyles lost his estates and was sent drifting. Soon he heard that his old enemy, the darkspawn had resurfaced in the north. He faces an opportunity for one last campaign, as the Orlesians and Fereldans have started to mass an army to drive back the darkspawn crawling from the north. Questions loom in his head: how is his old free company faring? Is Lucas is still alive?

Jersch has perfected the art of relentlessly taunting his foes to the point that they go for him over softer targets, purely to shut him up.

Personality
Irritable, cynical and sarcastic are the best words to describe Jersch. Conflict is a hobby for him in all its forms, from a simple argument to full-on warfare. It is not that he is particularly competitive, rather that he simply enjoys testing himself against others, be it verbal or physical. Jersch has served under many banners since coming topside and has developed a degree of disdain for pretty much everyone who doesn't hail from Orzammar. Surface dwarves, humans, elves, mages, Templars... They all lack a sense of pragmatism, of practicality. So many would rather fight for a banner or for honour, but at the end of the day, what good is honour and altruism against cold hard cash? Last but certainly not least is a deeply ingrained loathing for all things demon-related. Mages who toy with the Fade, abominations and blood mages... Any sensible person would realise that playing with fire gets you burnt- or cleaved in two by a pissed off dwarf.

History
House Tovorn of the Warrior Caste is well-known for providing some of the finest officers in Orzammar's army. While the main and close branch families have traditionally had the most successful careers, there are a number of cadet branches that have been... less fortunate. Jersch was born into one such cadet family, heirs to only modest holdings in the city and low ranking soldiers in House Tovorn's forces. As the third son of a minor branch, Jersch never had much chance of inheriting lands or achieving anything significant until the ascension of King Bhelen to the throne of Orzammar. Bhelen's progressive policies and meritocratic ideals meant that for the first time, lesser family members had a chance to prove themselves as capable warriors and commanders. This eventually led to an expansion of the Deep Roads campaign, with many more independent parties being sent into the tunnels. House Tovorn sent three such excursions, one under the command of Jersch's father and in which he served.

Several factors combined to ensure that they failed in their mission of reclaiming a lost thaig, including political intrigue, bad intelligence and overall stupidity on his father's part. However the party was saved from total annihilation by the decisive actions of Jersch and his older brother Jarehk, as they rallied their House's forces during an ambush to withdraw. This came to the attention of King Bhelen, who had been searching for young and talented commanders to lead up a new initiative on the surface; the fact that the Tovorn brothers were almost unknown and therefore expendable probably helped. They were chosen to form and lead a mercenary band of House Tovorn soldiers shortly before the end of the Fifth Blight. Bhelen intended to set up a system of tributary mercenary bands roving southern Thedas, sending a percentage of their profits back to Orzammar in return for equipment and supplies. The Tovorn Company was to be proof of the system's viability.

By the time the newly christened Company set out from Orzammar, the Blight had already ended, leaving them to take up small-time contracts across Ferelden until the Mage Rebellion kick-started the mercenary economy. With dozens of clients suddenly calling for experienced troops, Jersch was able to negotiate a lucrative contract with a splinter group of the rebel mages from the Circle in Ferelden. The company did very well of the work, charging a high price for a high standard of protection, all the while running lyrium to both sides of the conflict. During the course of the contract the Tovorn Company routinely locked horns with the renegade Templar Order, with both sides scoring equal honours. Even a few Inquisition agents found themselves on the end of a Tovorn blade after poking around the wrong abandoned fortress. Ultimately though, the mages succumbed to the temptations that all rogue mages do, leaving the dwarves with an awkward choice of protecting a pack of deranged demon-worshippers, or reneging on their contract. The brothers disagreed on which course to take, violently. Jarehk valued loyalty and honour above all else and as such felt compelled to follow their contract to the letter, whereas Jersch was of the opinion that demons were quite open about betraying people. The Company split, with Jarehk's half holding up inside the mage's fastness while those loyal to Jersch (and perhaps common sense) left to seek a safer contract.

That safer contract was found with the Inquisition. While Jersch disapproved of the organisation's quasi-religious rhetoric and pro-mage sympathies, he did rather like their killing-things policies. The Company served for some time as part of the Inquisition's army, at least until the rebel mages were welcomed into the fold by the so-called Herald of Andraste. Remembering the dangers posed by rebel mages, Jersch immediately pulled his support, marching his men away from Haven and east. Word eventually reached him of his brother's unsurprising demise, murdered in unimaginable ways by abominations in the mage's holdfast, carried by a handful who fled the scene while they had the chance. He was left with two options; return to Orzammar with the vast riches he had earned, enough to live like a king for the rest of his days... or go get some payback.

Sufficed to say, every drop of dwarven blood was paid back with interest. In interior of the mage's fort, already decrepit and crumbling, had warped into a nightmare. Jersch has never spoken of the horrors he found within those walls, but his hatred of demons and those who cavort with them began that day. With the fort cleared, the Tovorn Company claimed it as their own and set about rebuilding it in true dwarven style. It took several years to establish but once completed, Fort Jerehk became a symbol of dwarven military prowess throughout Ferelden and an important hub for mercenary activity in southern Thedas.

The Tovorn Company, now well-known as the finest dwarven sellswords in the land, were eventually approached by a Chantry emissary and contracted to support the combined Southern Army in their new war. Jersch, along with a handful of his most trusted agents, was personally hired to join a special task force put together by the Divine Victoria herself... Working with religious nutjobs is hardly his idea of a good time, but you can't beat cold hard cash.

Kargoth - The Rivaini Assassin

Appearance: A 6 foot 6 inch tall, dark skinned, deep voiced male with a meaty, muscular physique, possessing dark blue eyes, a thick spiked black mohawk and a mature attractive face. He has obtained a few healed scars along his cheeks, and body, including one along the juggular area and along the stomach. He possesses several pierces along the ears, chin and stomach.

Kargoth's upperbody is completely bare save for the black assortment of tattooes which symmetrically coat his back and front. He also wears a set of light armored black leather and spiked wyvern scaled gaunlets which covers from his hands to his shoulders. He wear an assortment of gold around his neck, jewels, items stolen from his foes, proof of his kills fashioned into necklaces. As for his lower body, kargoth wears a set of jet black leather, spiked wyvernscale coated leggings and a pair of black leather shoes.

Abilities:

Master Poison Making: "The best part of a hunt is watching my handiwork slowly reap the lives of my prey..." - A master of making incredibly dangerous and powerful poisons, Kargoth can create concoctions which slowly bleed, induce sickness and slowly induce painful death. He can coat his own and his allies' blades to bring their opponent to their slow, agonising demise.

Dual-weapon Mastery: "Arrows are nice, but I like to get a nice look at the cuts i make~" - A master of dual weilding, Kargoth is able to twirl, launch and dance around his foes with speed, slicing and dicing them up to be served like some form of psycho sushi.
Getting into close range combat with the assassin will only speed up the time of your death, believe me.

Master stealth: "Here, there and everywhere, theres nothing like pouncing ontop of my prey when they least expect it, to hear their final bleating cries~" - Jumping in and out of shadows, Kargoth is able to take the initiative and take his foes by surprise, while being able to avoid the prying eyes of his enemies trying to look for him. If you cant see him, its fine... Because he can see you.

Gaps in the armor: "armor wont save you from my blades, little kitten!" - An ability which allows Kargoth to use his blades to slice and stab at areas which are the least protective with finesse, allowing him to apply his poisons onto his foes and deal heavy damage.

Hidden blades: "you think i need to get close... To hurt you? Poor naive prey..." - Shooting out a pair of blades hidden in his jacket, he is able to immediately throw the knives at his opponents who are off afar to deal ranged damage, allowing him to bleed his foes to make them weaker.

Personality: Smug, narcissistic, and insensitive, a Rivain with a sick sense of humor are some of the personality traits the assassin possesses. Arrogan, cocky and a show off, Kargoth enjoys taking his time with his foes, and shows major signs of possessing both masochistic and sadism traits. Only in for the job at hand because he believes there will be a mountain of riches waiting for him for completing the job, it is one of two things keeping him on this mission, the other? Well, these darkspawn are killing his clients... And his targets, and that just isnt very acceptable.

Kargoth can quicky become violent and antagonistic to the people he fights alongside, but will not kill them unless needed as a method of self defense. He cares not for the people below or above him, and lives by his own set of rules, as many do who were born in Rivian and grown as pirates. Selfish and greedy, and a large glutton, others are his stepping stones to bigger rewards, and doesnt exactly make friends, only merely getting acquaintented with those around him, be wise not to piss him off, or you might end up not waking up a week from now.

History:

Normally, a little kid born in Riviani grows up to love his community, work together, settle down, live a nice, rich life... I on the otherhand would... Also get this, but heh, lets just say it was fairly different on a moral standpoint.

Like any child i originally was raised to be smart, to be successful, maybe to get a nice job and live a life of lazy wonder, however I was a brat as a child, stealing from people, kicking the shit out of kids my own age... I was a terrible little maggot... Of course, my continued pestering of the people around me finally knocked me in the jaw. Unknowingly I stole from a group of not very well known, but pretty viscious pirates, caught me red handed and almost lobbed my face off the moment they got me, but they didnt, no they decided to take me away, kidnap my worthless, bony ass and keep me illegally as a slave to work for them. I was stolen away, leaving the life of luxury behind and brought into their little flock, so long the life of lazy luxury, hello criminal deterioration...!

Well, deterioration was for the weaker swine, good for me i happened to be made of much stronger wood,cor rather, lets say steel. They worked my scrawny ass off on that ship in the shit. I scrubbed, I served, I begged, I was molded. Many kids my age were killed by disease, by their pirate master or just commited suicide, perhaps from spite, or just simply despair, i was a lucky one, was lucky my genes werent pathetic, i was one of the few who grew stronger, that agonising lifestyle couldnt break me, but it changed me, oh did it change me... And i couldnt be more pleased~

From five years old to fifteen my mind changed, I was already a spiteful sadist as a child, but life watching the people around you murder innocents, keep slaves, while your forced to participate, raping, murder, plundering, it turns you into a sick, disturbing son of a bitch... I relished every moment of it, its probably because of this they let me go as a slave, and turned me into one of their own,ca full fledged pirate.

As such, I was carved with beautiful scars, which ran around my body, a symbol of my pirate crew, it was a nice little memento to remember them by, when i let every single last one of them die before my own blades. You see, as pirates were were often set upon by people who desired our heads, so much so, our crew was ambushed at sea by a single assassin, blades in hand, the blood that sprayed was as beautiful as the sunrise to normal folk... In the flames of confusion i pounced upon my own, eager to give them a taste of the joy i faced as a child, i slaughtered them, hunting prey of my own kind was foreign to me but.. I loved it, it didnt take long for the assassin to notice either, the disturbing glint in my eye, the eagerness for death, the lack of fear.. He saw potential, a big, powerful youth, launching upon others like some form of wild beast, tearing them to shreds, he desired to fester that bloodlust.

From that day forward, I was "dead", known only now as Kargoth, my original name, even i've forgotten... From the age of fifteen the assassin faked my death, collected the reward and took me as his little tool to shape further. For years, under his wing, a rogue assassin, not part of any guild, on the run, to kill and escape, we were partners in glorious crime. My love for killing, the joy of death and the stench it brings was like a bards song... It was like drinking water, it was manditory, i couldnt live without it, already trained to use a blade, my new master taught me very well, he wanted me to kill more, and in all honesty, i had to oblidge, trained in stealth, despite my large size, poison making and the art of elegant death, i would spent the next nineteen years of my life getting stronger, faster, and more intelligent under his guide, with work plentiful in times of blight when peoples guards are dropped, we eventually left eachother around my twenty seventh birthday, and for seven years till thirty four, ive made a pretty famous name for myself...

Today, i do what i always do, indescriminately kill everything im paid to slaughter, this indescriminate killing eventually got me spotted by other... Individuals.. Course, the chantry wouldnt automatically hire a murderer, thats not their style, or rather, not the open. They had a whole adorable arguement deciding how they would leash me, scared i might just go apeshit... Eventually they realised an assassin who bides by the rules and doesnt break contract, who doesnt disobey their boss and who does their job without double crossing is a valuble, disposable asset. They have no intention of me surviving, and no doubt will try to kill me the moment the mission is over, but this job will definately be my most rewarding yet...

Combat Mastery: Due to countless hours of training and even more hours and years of combat experience Garen has a very keen grasp of martial combat. Skilled with the sword, lance, warhammer, crossbow, and many other armaments. Also something of a strategist Garen has disciplined his mind to think many moves in advance, as such he's not only an able and dangerous combatant but a capable and quick-thinking commander.

Survivalist: Garen has spent enough time in the wilderness to easily survive on his own for months, even years at a time.

The Song of Steel, Dance of Death: Garen himself would say his extreme proficiency with his blades came with hours upon hours of practice.
Other more superstitious crowds believe him to be a demon warrior incarnate, whose only purpose in the world is to reap death upon whomever he pleases. Whatever the actual case, Garen is so attuned to his weapons and his body that when he fights his blades sing a funeral dirge for his enemies. The only sounds to be heard is the whooshing of blades slicing the air, the clanging of metal beating metal, and the screams of his defeated foes.

Personality: To most Garen is a rough, cynical person having seen and dealt with enough death to make the man cold and indifferent to the cruelties of the world. As a wanderer and professional soldier Garen is disciplined, shrewd, logical, sarcastic, and at times a bit ruthless. Still, his iron like persona has soft spots, particularly towards children whom if he's in an area long enough will teach kids how to read, write, and otherwise survive. He gives those he counts as friends high regards and always pay his debts, loyalty with loyalty, blood with blood.

History

His father was a hunter and was murdered by a band of darkspawn when he was a boy. After that Garen and his mother survived the best they could, eventually she perished as well. After that the boy was recruited by a mercenary company called the Dragon's Blades at the age of 8. He was to serve the fighters much like a squire and eventually become a fighter himself.

He stuck with the company for 10 years, becoming one of the group's most respected fighters and tacticians. He showed great leadership capabilities and quite the mind for battlefield strategy. The group had an established territory, the local villages were grateful for the protection and the company had food and lodging. Garen served as the one of three members of the company known as the "Dragon Heads" for a couple years, marrying the village chief's daughter, Elaine.

The two had a daughter named Alys, they were happy, blissful. However the bliss would not last... One night after returning with his men from a monster hunt they found the village in flames. Tevinter Slavers were ransacking the town and carting off it's inhabitants. Garen and his men did all they could and saved a few. But when the dust settled, Elaine and Alys were nowhere to be found, the village was ruined, burned, and what was left of the population didn't want to be anywhere near there.

After that Garen left the Dragon's Blades, intent on hunting down the slavers and finding his family. That was his mission for years, until finally he did. He and his closest friend Jeremiah Cross who was a tracker hunted the Tevinter to their lair. The two stormed the place, finding horrific things, corpses, tortured, mangled, or worse. Finally the two found Elaine, or what was left of her. They searched but Alys could not be found. And so the two returned and went their separate ways, with Garen wandering the world. Listless aside from finding his daughter.

Now the world is threatened, and a call for heroes has been issued. Though no hero himself, Garen has decided to lend his twin longswords Gwynt and Tân to the cause of saving the world. For if the world is destroyed, if Alys still lives she will perish with it.

Bio:
Zeynep was born Par Vollen and like all other qunari children, was sent to be raised by the Tamassrans of the capitol city, Qunandar. For a time she led the normal life that is expected of all qunari children, and of course would of more then likely have become one of the Tamassrans as well until the day came that she showed that she was cursed with the use of magic. When it was found out that she was plagued by this curse, she was removed from the care of the Tamassrans and placed in the care of an arvaarad, she became a saarebas. Those that she had come to know as brothers and sisters, the only form of family she would ever had, rejected her and she soon lost all contact to the world around her. Under the care of her arvaarad, she became nothing more then a social outcast due to the fear of magic that the Qun had. Zeynep learned to not speak at all after watching a fellow saarebas have his own tongue cut out of his mouth due to the accusation of that saarebas practicing magic while his arvaarad was not looking. She never spoke only gave nods and head shakes to questions or to show she was listening. She was lucky enough to be sparred from having her horns removed, making an agreement with her arvaarad that allowed her to keep her horns.
Zeynep eventually fooled them all that she was nothing more then a submissive servant, all the while she planned her escape. She might of not spoke but she secretly taught herself magic, it was never an easy task but she taught herself enough to have a means of escape. Eventually the time came where she could run, leave the Qun and become Tal-Voshoth. She never wanted to return to Par Vollen, there was nothing for here there to stay and she cursed the place for her exile from society and treatment which was no better then being an attack dog.
When the night came of her escape, she manage to slip by her arvaarad, asleep like a babe, never expecting that Zeynep would try such a feat. She would never know how long it took for them to discover her escape but it did not matter. She ran south, only stopping when necessary. She could not remain in one place for long, there was no knowing if she was being hunted down as she ran, if she was caught it would only mean death.
Once she managed to get as far as Orlais, that was when she took time to stop. She hid herself among the shadows of the city, finally cutting away the strand of strings that kept her mouth sown shut, not enough to entirely keep her from opening it but enough that it had been able to prevent most talking above a whisper, to finally hear her own voice again shocked her. She had not heard it in years since she had become saarebas, now though she was free of that accursed title and free to learn to speak the native tongue of Thedas. She had to learn on her own for quite some time, listening and piecing what everything meant. She learned a lot from her time in Orlais. Eventually though she left Orlais and continued south, coming to the Free Marches and finding herself in the city of chains, Kirkwall. Here she sold herself off as a mercenary for hire, what else could she do? She had no useful skills besides the little knowledge of magic she had, being able to at least be a mercenary for hire allowed her to learn more about other cultures, the language that most spoke, and at least a little more magic. Her time in Orlais as well as Kirkwall left her feeling slightly jealous of the people she saw. How they had so much freedom to choose their paths they desired, something she never had. Even the Circle of Magi she looked with awe as well, seeing how the mages were treated.
Despite her awe though, she still holds some ideals of the Qun and finds that most people are, for lack of a better term, weak and gets agitated by those that take the little things they have for granted. She also frowns upon those mages that would make deals with demons, seeing them as weak and unfit for the life they have.

Gavlan skills as a warrior come from his years of training as being an enforcer of the laws in Orzammar as well as having to occasionally be sent into the Deep Roads with his fellow comrades when told too.
Beserk- The berserker flies into a rage, landing powerful blows for as long as this mode is active.
Mighty Blow- The warrior leaps into the air, crashing down on foes with tremendous force.
Giants Reach- The warrior's two-handed attacks rip through the air with such power that each generates a shockwave past the point of impact, effectively extending the weapon's reach.

Bio:
Gavlan grew up at first as a trader of Orzammar. His trade was that in weapons and armor with an occasional dabble of the other markets when he could afford to do so. Unfortunately Gavlan ran into tough times and was forced into making deals with a group of thugs that were called the Carta. His involvement lead to a slight relationship with the gang's leader Jarvia. The relationship didn't last long however with Jarvia pressing him to do more illegal actions then he wanted to. For his disobedience, his shop was destroyed and the law enforcement of Orzammar got an anonymous tip of his dealings with Carta. For his punishment it was either going to jail, becoming casteless, or going into the Deep Roads on expeditions. His choice was the Deep Roads. This was when he began learning his fighting prowess. From other warriors, either other criminals forced into the expeditions for punishment or Orzammars guards who volunteered for these dangerous jobs. Orzammar was the last Thaig and it was determined to not fall, in order to do that, they had to thin Darkspawn from time to time. These expedition were also used to traverse to lost Thaigs and find anything that might be of use to Orzammar, be it ancient texts or miscellaneous items that could fetch a price being sold to the outside world above Orzammar.
Even after his punishment was deemed over, he continued going on the expeditions into the Deep Roads, partially because it meant finding rare items he could sneak back to Orzammar and sell for some coin and partially because he enjoyed the fighting, he learned he had a knack of using an axe and fighting Darkspawn gave him some pleasure and entertainment. Plus he made friends in his merry band of outcasts who also continued these expeditions. They shared in good laughs and mead. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. While on one expedition into the Deep Roads, they were ambushed by Darkspawn. Gavlan was the only one to make it out alive. He feared that perhaps returning to Orzammar would not be a wise decision. All the men in the expedition were considered criminals, even if Gavlan had repaid his dues to society for his supposed crimes. Rather the return he looked for a means of leaving the Deep Road. It took him days to find one of the exits of the Deep Roads, but he did and found himself far from the moutain range of Orzammar that he called home. He felt like he was going to fall off the realm of Thedas with how open the world was. He had no idea where he was only where he couldn't go. So he made his way north, passing though Orlais, Nevarra, and the Free Marches before stopping in Kirkwall. Here is when he meant his partner in crime. Zeynep the Qunari mage. At first neither saw eye to eye on anything. Always bickering back and forth on how things should be done. Eventually though they found the means to get along and even enjoy each others company. Both were social outcasts. She a qunari mage and him an dwarf with no home. They used their talents to be hired out as mercenaries or smugglers in Kirkwall and soon Gavlan was well know for being a guy that could smuggle just about anything into Kirkwall's walls.
