[IC] Forgotten History

[Rose]

Upon being appropriately acknowledged by the Commodore Rin andthe others ttook their seats. She glanced over at Marcus with nearly a shocked look on her face. She and every other cadet knew very well what could happen to a sstudent who didn't follow proper etiquette.

[Thorned Hammer]

"What are you gaping at." He said flatly, before he finally stuffed the paper in his bag and decided to just go. "Let me know if there's a test." He said in parting, before heading for the door.

[Rose]

Rin looked on in utter shock as Marcus left. The Commodore tried to stop him but was unsuccessful. Rin watched in horror as he wrote the transgression down for future discipline. She fought her urge to run after him.

Marcus slung his bag over his shoulder, swiftly leaving the building to head back for what would now be the empty barracks he stayed in. His bunkmate was in class for the rest of the day he knew, so that pretty much guaranteed a room to himself.

[Rose]

After her Tactics class Rin faked a stomach ache to get the rest of the day off. After being dismissed she made her way to Marcus' room. Once there she nocked and hoped he would answer.

There was a groan of annoyance from inside and the sound of shuffling, before Marcus moved to the door. "I told you Tyler to give it a rest" He snapped when he pulled the door open, pausing though when he saw it was Rin and not his bunk mate.

[Rose]

As she stood in the corridor, waiting for theddoor to open, each second felt like an hour. Her heart raced in fear of being rejected once more. Her eyes rose to meet his as he opened the door. "Are you going to let me in?" she askedafter a brief moment of him staring.

[Thorned Hammer]

"Are you just gonna ask me what's wrong and say I can tell you anything?" Marcus asked her dryly, folding his arms and leaning in the door way.

[Rose]

Rin pushed past him and took a seat on the bottom bunk. Her stubbornness brightly shinning through. "No, I'm going to ask what's so damn important that your willing to throw away your future on it. And I'm going to sit here till you tell me. " she said plainly. Her face was serious as she looked up at him.

[Thorned Hammer]

"It was one TT class, I think I'll be fine.". He said in retort, taking a seat at his desk and propping an elbow on it.

[Rose]

Rin huffed. "This isn't a civilian school, this is a military Academy! Walking out of class is a punishable offense that stays on your record. Besides, there are plenty of other classes your missing today because of your impromptu vacationffrom reality." she said with obvious irritation.

[Thorned Hammer]

"Yeah cause I look like I'm taking a fucking vacation!". He bristled, before slumping back in the chair as if that out urst had taken to much energy. Eventually he gestured to the crumpled paper from earlier that now sat in the trash. " got that this morning. Richard's dead as of 10:14 last night." He mumbled.

[Rose]

Looking towards the piece of paper Rin froze. Many thoughts and emotions ran through her head. At the forefront, though, was regret. She had walked in there and started practically yelling at him. Now she finds out he's acting this way because his brother is dead. I'm such an idiot.. She thought to herself. With a softened, and obviously regretful, disposition she turned back to Marcus. "I'm sorry." She said simply.

[Thorned Hammer]

"Remember what I was doing at 10:14?". He said after a bit, blinking a few times. " getting drunk off my ass. While someone, someone was breaking into his house."

[Rose]

Leaning forward Rin rested her elbows on her knees. "There was no way you could have known what was going to happen. These things, they just happen." She stammered. It was always hard to know what to say in situations like this, but this one seemed to be particularly bad.

[Thorned Hammer]

"He was a fucking lt! He should've been killed in a fight! Not in his house!" Marcus shouted angrily,

[Rose]

With a deep swallow she tried to think what to say. What could even be said in a situation like this? "We never expect to be hurt in our own house, that's where we should be safe." She said quietly. The words weren't only for him, but also for her. The thoughts of her stepfather beating her and her mother and sister forced their way through. She tried to keep her focus on Marcus.

[Thorned Hammer]

"And we're supposed to their prptecters? Their army?". He continued ranting as if a dam had burst, his voice cracking on occasion. " Richard had a kid! My nephew! And now I'm supposed to go to class and be a good student while the people I'm fighting for kill and hurt my family!"

[Rose]

Quietly she sat there, allowing him to yell as much as he wanted. Though it was being said irrationally his words were true. Being killed by the enemy is expected, acceptable, but by the people they were supposed to be protecting? That's wrong.

[Thorned Hammer]

"I just don't see any point giving a shit about this anymore. It was for him anyways. Just to be like him." He finished bitterly, his eyes glassy with tears as he dragged a sleeve over them in attempt to wipe them away.
