[IC] Forgotten History

[Rose]

Though she hadn't been to many funerals she did clearly remember how sad her mother, and the rest of her family, was at her father's. Though she was very young at the time the profound sadness of the event had stuck with her. This made her appreciate how important it was to have someone you could trust there. Taking a step closer she rested a hand on his arm, trying to comfort him. "Yes, I'll go. I want to help you in any way I can. And I also would like to show my respect to your brother and your family. " She responded.

Visibly Marcus relaxed at this. Aside from Richard and his elder sister he didn't really know or get along with most of his family. And this was not at all the sort of situation he wanted to get reacquainted with them in. Especially since he'd most likely be on his own. He doubted Helen would even show up. "Thanks, it'd mean a lot," He said with an attempt at a grin, glancing her way before back at his feet.

[Rose]

A smirk came across her face. "alright, let's shoot. It's time for me to kick your ass! " she joked as they walked to the lanes. The range was quiet fora change, ssince everyone else was busy. " So I set a new record in academy history. I'm the Fastest pilot through the advanced live ammo obstacle course. And that apparently includes all the academies in the ras." she said it in effort to change subject but felt she was gloating.

"Not for long I'm sure" Marcus called after her, coming along behind a few paces. He appreciated her attempt at a change in conversation and went along with it, glad for it really. "Don't get to big for your boots Monroe. someone might just come along to knock you down a size"

[Rose]

Her smirk grew. "I honestly dare them to try. " she said in somewhat an arrogant way. "Don't worry, I realize there's a lot I still need to work on. Besides, I haven't even seen a real battle yet." she remarked. Lining up she started firing controlled bursts at the target.

[Thorned Hammer]

"Yeah well, way things are going wont be long before you do." He said dryly, raising the rifle. holding it steady he aimed at a target to the right of Rin's and began systematically shooting it to pieces.

About a week later break started. Marcus bought himself a flight back to his home town and one for Rin as well, telling her she was going to be a guest so he should pay, and a day after break started they were there. His family was, busy. There was barely a moment when someone wasn't shouting or yelling or fighting or needing something in the family home and it and started to get to Marcus to the point where he had spent the night outside. He was quiet for most of the trip, and when it finally came to the actual funeral he just seemed to clam up all the more tightly.

After the funeral the family invited those who attended back to their home. Rin felt somewhat awkward being among the group but took comfort in hiding amongst the crowd. Ever since arriving Marcus seemed so stressed, but after seeing how he was treated by his family Rin understood. She felt herself being protective over him. "Hey, I mixed you up a little something. " she whispered as she handed over a glass with a mixed drink. While it wasn't enough to get him drunk she hoped it would take the edge off.

"thank you, pusher" Marcus said gratefully, accepting the drink and tasting it experimentally. He used Rin's appearance as a chance to slip away from a clingy cousin. Everyone there seemed to think Rin was his girlfriend and it was the perfect excuse when trying to escape, so he used it often. Like at that moment. "sorry for dragging you here,"

[Rose]

Glancing down at her heels while smoothing her dress Rin tried to act casual. When she looked up at Marcus again she brushed her hair back. "Feels a bit odd to be out of uniform. " she remarked. When he apologized she frowned. " Don't be. I came here to help you. " she said softly. Stepping forward she hugged him.

Marcus mumbled something into his glass, returning her hug before nearly tripping over her when his nephew Tucker tackled his leg. It was a game the two year old had invented out of boredom and he was getting rather good at it to the annoyance of his mother. "I appreciate it," he said to Rin, setting his glass down to free himself of tiny fingers. "never thought I'd say it but I think I miss the uniforms to. Although you look good out of one."

[Rose]

Rin smiled down at the little kid. "I get this funny feeling people expect me to actually be lady like. It's weird. " she said while putting her hands on her hips. Despite all the stress he was under he was still friendly with the children, she thought that said a lot about him.

Marcus straightened up after shooing a burbling Tucker away, ruffling the boy's mope of reddish brown hair before looking skeptically back at Rin. "are you physically capable of lady like ness?" he teased,

[Rose]

With a raised brow she lightly glared at him. "I just choose not to be. " she said prideful with a flick of her hair. Her playfulness stopped when she saw his parents approaching.

Marcus nearly managed a laugh at that, before noticing her change of behavior. He glanced over his shoulder in time to see them approaching and make a noise of annoyance. "Kill me now." He scowled, once more setting his drink aside and slipping his hands into his pockets before turning to face them.

[Rose]

Rin cleared her throat and glanced around. The discomfort was so obvious you could nearly see it. While she knew Marcus wouldn't make her stay, but she felt a commitment to stay. He was a friend, her best friend, that meant protecting him and looking out for him.

"I see you managed to keep yourself from making a scene at the ceremony.". Was Marcus's father's way of greeting them. "That shows progress." He was a tall broad man, with dark reddish brown hair streaked with silver and frown lines eyched into his face. Marcus's mother, with whom he shared more similarities, was slender and tall with her dark hair in a bun and her sever face in a shocked sort of expression. Marcus said nothing in reply to his father, just grinded his teeth and looked down. This, more clearly then words, was an attempt at avoiding confrontation.

[Rose]

Rin felt her skin crawl. It's like they were trying to provoke him. She bit her lip in an attempt to suppress what she wished to say. The pressure became to much though. "After the death of a close family member everyone deserves to break down. You shouldn't have to hold it together. " she grumbled. Her attempt at keepingjher words friendly failed for the most part.

Martha, Marcus's mother, glared at Rin at this, her face appearing shrew like as emotions flitted across it but she remained silent. His father, Lucas turned his attention to Rin as well, narrowing his eyes as he looked her up and down. "And what right do you even have to be here girl.". He said with a frosty tone.
" I invited her.". Marcus spoke up, "she has the right as my friend."

[Rose]

The feeling of needing to hold back continued to fade into non-existence. After all, if they were being so rude why be nice to them? "I'm here to support Marcus and show him kindness, since even his own parents seem incapable of doing so." she said bluntly.

Marcus was caught between either a groan or a laugh at this, instead just finding amusment in the bulging eyes of his father and the red hue that was slowly creeping across his face.
"How dare you speak to us like that". Hissed Martha, voice thick with disbelief at Rin's rudeness as she cluthched at Lucas's arm.
" oh please, its not like you haven't heard worse." Marcus snorted, picking up his drink again before turning away from his parents and grinning at Rin above the rim of the glass.
