The Emerald Knight
The Torchbearer
The Green Lantern
| Origin & Backstory |1980 - 1995
His name is not Kyel.He was born in Los Angeles, his mother a struggling actress, and his father a bar stool musician. Kyle came from a idealistic home just coming off of the 70's Flower Power. His parents were hippies by heart, and it was a last minute change of mind that made them name him Kyle and not 'Scarlet' or 'Tulip'. He grew up with a creative mind, he enjoyed acting and music, just like his parents. But his true passion, ever since he was three years old, was always art. His burning passion was drawing, painting and splashing colors everywhere, thus what fate had in store for him was no surprise.
In school he was a outsider, the kid trying to say something funny to make the class laugh, if only just so that the bullies would pick someone else to beat up after the class instead of him. He didn't
hate school, quite the opposite, but he never could fit in. When he got older, around 10, he stopped making jokes in class, and instead put all of his attention into his art. He practiced, but he also did a lot of research. He wanted to make stories with his pen and notebook, and thus he quickly found his way into the comic books.
Reading about the stories of the heroes of old, the political Captain America Comic books was a great inspiration for him and it fueled his interest in both art and in heroes. At 11 his room was filled with manga and comics, Justice Society Of America Posters, and he even owned a replica of Captain Roger's Shield.
His life was pretty normal, he got good grades and people thought him to be on the fast train to success when he got into high school, the art driving him forward every step of the way.
1996 - 2000
High School Never Ends.High School?
High School. It was a rough time for a skinny white kid who sucked at all sports, was good at math, history and music whom spent all of his free time reading comics and making drawings. He had a couple of friends in high school, but most of his peers labeled him as a freak and thusly left him to his own devises. He applied for college in graphical design, he was rejected scholarship, and thusly, he could not attend the college he attended to, but instead applied for community college in LA.
He dropped out of college at 20, pursuing his dreams as a freelance artist, following him getting paid twenty grand for a commission.
2001 - 2004The financial possibility of his passion seemed less and less hopeful as time passed. He lived in a studio apartment in Hollywood, he made most of his money making street portraits of B-list celebrities, and that one dude from Fight Club who loved getting paintings of himself. That, and as a part time bartender at a local bar. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the dream. Nobody needed a comic book artist right now, it would seem. Then again, he had never been more wrong than that when he was walking home from his late night shift in 2001. A man was getting mugged by two hooligans. Two thugs that Kyle, despite his
average build and not experience with violence, fought off. As he laid on the pavement panting, not believing the fact that he had punched someone in the nose, he couldn't help but feel happy for the first time in quite a while - he felt alive.
Spending the next few months getting more confident with himself, his art and his person. He was still a struggling artist, but he was pretty happy with who he was, all because someone had needed a comic book artist.
2005Kyle was struggling to make a living off of his art, currently living mostly off of his girlfriend, Alex, whom worked as a banker. Alex supported him in his artistic endeavors, put clothes on his back and food in his stomach – she loved and cared for him very deeply.
Alex was brutally murdered, and Kyle was devestated, the cops knew who it was, but they couldn't prove it. The killer walked free. Kyle took the actions into his own hands, armed with a baseball bat and a switchblade, he broke into the guys house and assaulted him – but, to his own surprise, he didn't kill him. It was the last thing he had to go through before his life would be hit with a shining, green, light.
| Attributes |Kyle is wearer of the Green Lantern Power Ring and everything that entails. The ring allows him to become invulnerable, able to survive in the vacuum of space, fly at incredibly fast speeds, create hard light constructs all the while keeping a high functioning encyclopedia that includes information from every corner of the universe.
His will is greater than those of his peers thus able to wear the ring with incredible power. His artistic abilities and creativity keeps on letting him come up with new, unorthodox ways to wield the power of Oa.
What makes him a excellent candidate for the Green Lantern Corps is his ability to not only feel, but overcome fear.
| Character Notes |T.B.A
| Character Goals |The goal with the character is to make a Kyle Rayner who's sole purpose wasn't to usher in the rebirth of the Green Lantern Corps – as this story is not in that situation, right now. But instead, it's about a campy guy who finds out that a group of immortals think he's got what it takes to wield the most powerful weapon in all of existance – and him dealing with the responsibilities that follows.
I'm looking to take Kyle on a adventure, not only for the story of the game, but for the character himself. The idea is for him to join the Guardians Of The Galaxy, to struggle with their morals, his own, and the morals of the Green Lantern Corps.
Though, while Carol and Sinestro are in the Negative >one, he will be the lantern of Earth.
