[OOC] Myth Academy - The Exchange

New students are always exciting. New faces, potential romances, rivalries, friends and enemies. But when the students are beings and creatures from folklore? When the first mythical beings were confirmed, it was certainly exciting. But most figured they'd never directly interact with them. Until a joint agreement came about to try bringing the two worlds closer together. The chosen spot, a quiet town called Daelstadht, always renowned for ghost stories, folklore, and strange occurrences. It is here that the first Mythical Exchange Students have come.
Welcome to the Myth Academy OOC folks. This RP will cover a year within Daelstadht Academy, a private high school that recently got a batch of mythical beings as exchange students. Within that year will be a few events you guys will be interacting with, but for the most part, the focus is on interpersonal dynamics between characters.
Which means you need to interact with each other and set your own goals.

I'll keep it simple cause I'm sure you've all heard these rules a thousand times before. Be kind, courteous, and respectful to all. Here's a few specific rules for RPs run by me however:

Rules

1) I encourage suggestions and ideas to flow freely, so if you have something you'd like to try in the RP or want to see happen, by all means mention it and we'll see if we can work it in! This isn't my story, it's our story.

2) I expect a mature handling of the subject matter. I don't censor cussing or anything like that, but there are a few things I restrict pretty heavily:
- Sexual content: What I mean by this is gratuitous or pornographic roleplay. I heavily encourage romance, and have no problems with characters pursuing sexual relationships. DO NOT make others uncomfortable, don't get graphic, and keep it to a nice simple "Fade to black" or similar.
- Violence: It's school, we're gonna fight. Fighting is expected, and physical confrontation is totally fine. That said, brutality, torture, or gore is unacceptable.

3) I understand that sometimes life enjoys keeping us busy. If you think you'll be pre-occupied for a while or unable to post, all I ask is that you let us know through a quick message *even just a PM to me is fine* that you'll be unable to post for a bit or anything like that. This helps other RPers from waiting on a potential no show and keeps the RP flowing.

4) I implement a system to help keep things from getting too confusing, at the beginning of your post, make a quick mention of who you're interacting with, be it character name or username. It really helps slower RPers focus in when they're interacted with and keeps little details from getting lost in the walls of text.

5) If at any point you have creative block or just can't think of something, feel free to shoot me a message, I'll try to help you guys out as much as possible.

Note that the goal is not to make others uncomfortable, but to have fun and explore the characters we're playing. I want everyone to feel comfortable and to enjoy themselves. So the rules may shift and fluctuate as we get a feel for the group.

Enough of the boring stuff, let's get to the setting yeah? I will try and keep a running list of NPCs for quick reference in this post. If you guys want someone added to the NPC list, toss me a description and I'll drop it in. Note that any NPCs I make are free game for controlling as long as they don't deviate from their personality too much.

NPC List

Grey - The resident Mythic Ambassador assigned to the East Dorm to help the new students acclimatize and adapt to their new situation. No one is quite sure WHAT Grey is, except that it appears differently to everyone based off their own personality. Some see a calm, friendly old man with a cane. Others see a bubbly middle aged woman with boundless energy. Still others see a mighty robed figure with no distinguishable gender. Regardless, Grey always appears as a figure of authority and respect to it's viewers. The only common feature is that it always has jet black eyes. Even those with magic detection cannot sense or feel anything from Grey.

Headmaster Logan - Headmaster of Daelstadht Academy, he has had little interaction with the Mythics up till this point. However, he keeps an open mind and tries to make the best of all situations. A pudgy man with thick curly black hair and pale skin, he is rarely seen outside of a suit. His priority is the safety and education of his students, and he takes his job very seriously. He knows how to work the political system within education to his advantage, and is exceptionally good at his job.

The exchange students all live within East Dorms, which have been specifically modified to suit their needs. You're a large creature? Your room is larger than most. Need a constant source of water? Most of your room is probably a pool. Specific dietary needs are sent directly to your dorm room, to avoid upsetting the human students *meaning diets that require raw meat and/or blood are encouraged to not do so in front of those who would be upset at such sights*

The way the school is currently set up is we are in the West but the class system itself is Eastern in order to keep things easier on all of us. Meaning your age determines your class. Meaning 14 is in class 1A, 15 is in 2A, 16 is 3A, etc etc.

I am allowing players a maximum of two characters, but here's the catch: One has to be human and one has to be a mythical being. You do not need to make two characters, but the option is there for those who want it. There is a reason for this, but it'll be revealed later. If you only want one character, you can make either a human or a mythical being.

Race: (This can be any form of mythical spirit. Wisps, hybrids, harpies, mermaids, dragons, oni, cherubs, imps, naiads, the sky's the limit. Obviously if you're human you're human)
Restrictions: Due to the the sheer volume of myths and variations of myths etc, there's a few restrictions.
1) No specific mythical figures. A vampire is not Dracula, a demon is not Lucifer, an angel is not Michael, nor are they direct descendants of said beings. This is for simplicity.
2) Vampires are standard. You burn in direct sunlight unless completely covered *heavy clothing does the trick, or a UV blocking umbrella, but sunblock doesn't work*, you're sterile, garlic is repulsive, no reflection, and you rest in a coffin. Again, this is just for simplicity because there are so many different myths.)
3) Large or particularly beastly creatures are fine, but understand that you are in a human world. You'll find it difficult to interact sometimes if you cannot fit inside a building all the time.

You are welcome to take unconventional twists with your race. Hybrids can be centaurs *half horse, half human* or any other feasible animal. Mermaids can have the lower halves of sharks or orcas, etc etc. Or make up your own creature within reason.

Personality: (A quick summary of who your character is, nothing too complicated, I expect characters to develop and grow through the RP)

This RP will be a more laid back and slower paced RP than most. I tend to keep Character Sheets somewhat minimal because I want to learn about your characters through interaction, not by reading a bio sheet or personality paragraph. Look forward to seeing what you guys all bring to the table!

Name: Fáfnir Iron-claw
Species: Dragonborn
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Height/Weight: 183cm/125kg (due to the added weight of her wings, scales, tail and claws)
Personality: Wise, proud, and dignified, Fáfnir Iron-claw is a hard woman to please. She demands the best from the people around her and tends to conduct herself with an air of superiority and grace, like royalty. She is pleased when praised or when her greatness is acknowledged but is quick to anger when someone does something to irritate her, offend her or, worst of all, hurt her pride. She is what you'd expect of a dragon, basically. Haughty and full of herself, yet undeniably proud and graceful with a wisdom beyond her years.

Of course, that's just what she wants you to think. Fáfnir is actually a very good actor who puts on a convincing public face she's practiced since birth to live up to the expectations of people around her. In reality, she isn't that smart, she feels uncomfortable when people give her too much attention, she's often awkward and at a loss for what to say, she likes playing videogames, eating junk food, watching old action movies and a bunch of other stuff that'll "rot your brain", and she has to practice all her lines and koans in front of a mirror so she can dispense them at any time like fortune cookies. Every part of her public persona is a carefully constructed lie. In reality, Fáfnir is just a very lonely individual who feels pressure from everyone to act a certain way and who hates her dragon blood for making her feel so uncomfortable living in her own skin. She wishes more than anything that she could just be herself, but she doesn't trust people either after years of being bombarded by insincere smiles and wary looks from people who were either trying to take advantage of her or afraid of her and showing respect only because they didn't want to make the monster mad. Still, she secretly hopes that one day she'll find someone she can truly be her awkward, dorky self around instead of always having to act like someone's stuck-up older sister or the class idol.
Bio: Born from a human male, an admiral in the navy, getting frisky with a shapeshifting immortal dragon (don't ask), Fáfnir is one of a dying breed. That is to say, a dragonborn (though technically this term did not exist for her kind until stories and games like D&D invented it and cash-cow properties and franchises like Skyrim popularized it). Hers was always to be a life of honor, privilege, and nobility, as was her right by birth. Merely by being dragonborn, she had inherited a destiny and a reputation, the pride of the noble and ferocious king of both lizards, wyrms and monsters.

And she hated it.

Not at first of course. That only came gradually. As a child all the attention she received was really fun, and she was always receiving presents and getting to meet interesting new people (read as: offerings and worshippers/creepy people). But as she got older she started to realize that there were difficulties that came with being dragonborn, that her life was a contract with stuff hidden in the fine print that she'd unwittingly signed. People worshipped her and fetishized her (both in the academic/religious and sexual senses), treating her with far more respect than she knew how to handle or felt like she deserved. She had to learn to act with a pride, poise and grace that befit the dragonborn but didn't come naturally to her at all, and had to hide what her real personality was like in order to keep up public appearances. She learned of her own importance in the eyes of other people, of normal humans, and how even the tiniest and most insignificant actions she took in public had consequences in the lives of her admirers and devotees that she had to take responsibility for. To boil it down to its simplest explanation, she learned what it was like to be a celebrity and have to hide who you really are for the cameras.

The real Fáfnir has, by now, grown tired and antisocial, desiring either a person who will let her be herself, or to be left alone in a world that refuses to take their eyes off her. She has felt what it's like to be a human legend and a person of importance, and honestly? She could do without it. This has made her hate her dragonborn heritage and be uncomfortable living in her own skin, and she tends to dwell on the other uncomfortable or inconvenient aspects of being dragonborn, of which there are unfortunately many. She even has a list:

Dragon Weaknesses:
-Her wings are large and awkward so she has to wear her dad's old naval jacket to cover them up, and they aren't strong enough to let her fly, only glide and hover short distances (she creates the illusion of flight by jumping high into the air using the strength in her legs)
-Her scales are bulletproof and tough as steel plates, but they itch, catch on her clothes and other things, and are a total pain to dispose of when she sheds them on top of being mostly useless in an age where violence between people is at an all-time low and fights with knives, swords and guns are rare. She also has a reverse scale located just above her coccyx that acts as a tertiary erogenous zone. She hates having people look at it, let alone touch it, and feels rather embarrassed and weirded out about the whole thing in general, like having a second set of nipples
-Needs to have special clothes and underwear made to fit her tail and wings as well as not catch on her scales, these clothes can get very expensive. She also has to wear gloves and long-sleeve shirts and trousers all year round to prevent herself from accidentally injuring people who bump into her and scratch themselves on her scales or her namesake "iron claws"
-Can breathe fire but it gives her painful indigestion and chronic acid reflux, feels similar to gagging or barfing, and it's hard to control as well as needlessly destructive and dangerous to the people around her. It can also happen accidentally like hiccups, which makes her a walking fire hazard
-Her roar is very loud due to the power of her lungs which have to expel flammable liquids at high speed like a flamethrower, but it also means she scares people without meaning to by accidentally raising her voice when she gets mad. The strength of her lungs also gives her a very deep, regal and intimidating voice which, while befitting of the image a dragonborn should carry, isn't very cute and isn't much to her liking
-Has difficulties with a primarily if not exclusively carnivorous diet, as gorging one's self on meat in company of others is not only seen as greedy, especially in places where meat is scarce, but can lead to health problems normal humans can't necessarily relate to, like a diminished sense of taste and the occasional difficult bowel movement
-Easily distracted by shiny objects and tends to hoard money instead of spend it (this is also why her house is a mess of old garbage she refuses to get rid of)
-Is cold-blooded (this is a big weakness for her because it's often both dangerous and inconvenient, especially in a more modern age where everyone is in love with air conditioning)
-Her dragonborn blood makes her fiercely territorial towards others with the dragon blood, and she tends to unwittingly alienate anyone of her own kind who could potentially sympathize or understand her (not that she’s had the opportunity to meet many)
Dragon Benefits:
-Good money sense, never a problem with finances
-People respect you, regardless of what you may or may not do or have done
-Can catch and grill your own food
-Doesn't have to worry about chronic back pain in the future despite her figure because her wings balance out the weight of her large breasts

As you can see, there's a bit of a disparity between what she thinks are the good things and the bad things in her life. Transferring to a new mixed school for mythological beings and humans, she expects to be treated much the same way she always is, and to have to smile and act dignified for the crowds of students with their cameras and their questions while they secretly talk about her behind her back in hushed, reverent tones, exchanging remarks of fear and disgust towards her non-human origin.
Quirks: She enjoys spending time with children and old people, who tend to be more honest and less wary and reserved around her. When she’s alone, she likes playing videogames and watching old 80s B-movies and sic-fi action flicks (she enjoys fantasy games and movies but tends to avoid them due to their frequently negative and somewhat uncomfortable treatment of dragons that tends to hit a bit too close to home with her)

I intended for this to be sort of just like "what kind of effects would growing up under a lot of expectations from everyone you meet have on a person?" If I missed the mark at all, please do let me know once I've finished the sheet.

HELLO I ARRIVED WITH NEEEEERDS!

Roan Kash

Name: Roan Kash
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Race: Merfolk

Appearance: Definitely a mermaid with a fishy tail, human-y torso and gills poking out of his torso just below where the rib cage would be ending. Matted brown hair falls down slightly over his eyes when not submerged beneath the surface.

While his eyes themselves are around the same size as a humans the iris and pupils are a lot larger to take in more light underwater, so he squints a lot in bright light, which also makes his green eyes look vividly so. His skin is also a little bit pale but recently gotten more tanned after spending a lot more time above the surface.

His tail extends for about two meters and looks very much like a Perch’s with fins on the front and back (back extending upward to about his shoulder blades) and a very nice tail fin. Normally he doesn’t wear clothing but may sometimes wear something like a damp shirt if he’s been above the surface for a while/on land.

Personality: Very short tempered and easily annoyed but just as quickly calmed down with a simple “Shush” from those around him. And even when he does go off on a tantrum it’s rarely anything more than a lot of shouting, fist waving and maybe splashing water at someone. Like when he sees people littering.

But overall he’s nice, just very passionate about what he feels is right.

Quirks: His patience is slightly longer though with his friend Adeline who he’s known since the two of them were very young.

Adeline Morris

Name: Adeline ‘Alien’ Morris
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Race: Human

Appearance: You’re typical human with surprisingly well kept red hair, freckle splattered face and arms with a number of scrapes and bruises covering her limbs. Also don’t be surprise to find her hands covered in filth after spending the day exploring. She’ll still smile away though, even covered head to toe in mud, with sparkling brown eyes.

Her clothing varies wildly from brand new to obviously worn for many years, with holes in her jeans being an almost constant even just after a few hours of buying them.

Personality: Outgoing, artistic and an born wilderness explorer it’s not uncommon for her to go wondering off for a few hours without a word before reappearing just as suddenly when the sun’s setting (as her parents many grey hairs can testify). Thankfully though her parents soon learned she would normally stay near the Villages Lake, which was also home to a small town of Mermaids who would keep an eye on her antics.

But she can be a bit too loud at times as well as saying something without actually thinking it though first, or even doing things as well.

Quirks: She swims more like a mermaid with her legs acting like a tail. She also used to find it odd that other people hadn’t known Mermaids when they were growing up.

Appearance:

Elize is roughly five foot ten inches tall while standing barefoot and is rather thin and willowy. Though thin Elize is still well muscled with lightly defined muscles covering her body.

In her fur Elize is right at 47 inches at the shoulder or right at 4 feet tall and weighs around 140 pounds. She's quite large compared to the average female lycan but certainly not as large as is possible.

Personality: Elize is not quite the friendliest individual one could possibly meet, she's likable but in a way that you wouldn't be quite sure whether she likes you or wants to eat you. Elize is extremely predatory even for a Lycan, she tends to unconsciously stalk people and move in a very quiet fluid nature. She also can be quite frightening on a subconscious level to humans just due to the fact that her presence makes them very uncomfortable generally. Elize herself doesn't seem to mind it much, she will talk to about anyone but it's not generally for very long. She would much prefer to be outdoors and in her fur than in her skin indoors.
Quirks:
- Tends to allow her wolf very close to the surface, so much so that her eyes change colors occasionally without her knowledge.
- She really likes hammocks, especially when she can sleep in them in her fur.

Appearance:


Solan has a rather boyish as well childlike appearance, appearing more like she’s twelve than her real age. She’s five foot even, being on the scrawny side that would be ideal for flying. However, her wingspan is about eight feet as well covered in soft grey down feathers, making her unable to fly for the time being. Her outfits consist of baggy comfortable clothing such as hoodies, t-shirts, and jeans. Before school started, she managed to buy more modern clothing compared to the traditional robes of home.

Personality: She’s reserved and doesn’t enjoy the company of many people. She often doubts herself and lack confidence in her actions. Solan is from a hidden tribe in Norway, home to her kind, and as a result, she’s lived a sheltered life away from humans. Ever since she was young, she’s lived in the shadow of her mother and sisters. All of them being successful Valkyries who take on the noble job of guiding souls to Valhalla. Compared to them, she’s rather pathetic in means of skill, being awkward and clumsy rather than sharing their gracefulness. Her main goal upon her time at the school would be to somehow live up to family's high expectations.

Quirks:
- Much like a bird, when she’s stressed, she sheds feathers.
-Can be seen talking to birds, and seems to understand them or at least pretends to.
-She has a bit of a Norwegian accent
-She’s not good with modern technology.

Most of the RP will not be spent within class, but rather after the class period. This is mostly because it would be exceedingly difficult to interact with each other during a class period *what with the not being able to talk without the teacher getting involved, listening to lessons, etc etc* If you're worried that such a separation will cause difficulties interacting, don't worry: Everyone's in the same dorm building. But I'll change it if enough people think being in the same class is preferable.

Yes and no. Obviously such beings have some degree of magic. Making an illusion casting magical fae dragon that hurls fireballs and casts magic missile is a no. Something with shape changing abilities or INCREDIBLY weak illusions would be acceptable.
