OOC up, jump in

It has been five years since Batman and Superman settled their differences in a fight against Bizarro, Lex Luthor's secret weapon. Three years since ordinary men and women began exhibiting metahuman powers in the fallout of the Black Zero event, three years since magic has returned to the world, and three years since the formation of the Justice League with official support by the United Nations. Their League has grown to include dozens of members. Supervillains of every stripe have become one of the largest threats to public safety from the insane Joker to the militant Kobra Cult or the powerful Intergang. And thousands of so called superhumans now roam the Earth. Some have magic abilities, others are genetically or cybernetically enhanced, most have metahuman powers, some have extraterrestrial origins, and a few are simply exceptionally skilled men and women.

The Justice League has been the main line of defense against supervillains whether they be contract killers, psychopathic murderers, organized criminals, fanatical terrorists, or thrill-seeking anarchists. The Justice League has even had to defend the Earth from supernatural monsters, the renegade Ocean Master, and even an invasion by the alien Brainiac. Dozens of dangerous supervillains and vigilantes, those with powers and without, were imprisoned in a specially designed secret federal facility in Louisiana called Belle Reve Penitentiary. Many infamous names now reside in the prison. Names such as Black Manta, Deathstroke, Parasite, the Reverse-Flash, and many many more.

But even though the Justice League has the adoration of the public, the United States government does not trust the powerful group. They formed an agency named Cadmus, meant to protect civilization from superhuman activity whether they were heroes, villains, or anything in between. To this end Cadmus formed a group including trusted government agents and sympathetic superhumans to undergo missions for the security of the United States. However they had few superhumans willing to volunteer and turned to other sources for more manpower. Thus Task Force X came into existence, a black ops group made of patriots and criminals who have very little choice.

The criminal members of Task Force X are given a simple bargain. Perform critical, secret, and highly dangerous operations for the United States in exchange for reduced sentences. The probability of death or injury is very high, whether by enemy action or the nanite-explosives in their necks. The risk is high but for these desperate souls, it is better than the alternative. Though government agents may call it Task Force X, the conscripts know it by a different name

This roleplay is set in a world based off of the DC Extended Universe. The Justice League has been formed and has several famous heroes. Supernatural forces such as the Amazons or Atlantis are well known to the world. Cybernetic or genetic enhancments have become possible. Aliens such as those of New Genesis or Apokolips have begun visiting the Earth, though the only invasion so far has been a thwarted attempt by Braniac. Instead of convoluted lab accidents metahumans like Flash, Black Canary, and Killer Frost gained their powers from the fallout of the Phantom Zone opening in Metropolis. Mundane humans with unique technology or skills are common enough.

You will play as a member of the Suicide Squad. They can be a government agent or sympathizer like Rick Flagg or a villainous or vigilante conscript like Deadshot or the Huntress. Not all of the characters are villains but there are no heroes like Superman or Batman, the best you can be is an antihero. There will be a lot of mature content, mostly swearing and violence, and your PCs can die a number of horrible deaths if they make too many mistakes. The good thing is that you can play as many PCs as you can handle, but they have to be on the villain-antihero scale and they must have some grounding in the various DC related media but with a "modern" DCEU re-imagining. You can also use any of the confirmed Suicide Squad members in the upcoming movie.

This is a large group, and sign-ups are always open. The focus will be on character interactions, espionage, and action. My current concept for the first mission is an assassination and kidnapping in Kahndaq, the home of Black Adam. I'm pretty open to ideas and input from anyone so if you have any ideas for objectives or antagonists, your opinion is always welcome. Is anyone interested in some good-old fashioned costumed violence?

@Weird Tales In a sense. You have to use character concepts from any DC media whether it is videogames, tv shows, movies, comics, or books. You can also use characters from Elseworlds Stories or One-Shots and even other DC-Affiliated imprints like Vertigo and Wildstorm as long as they fit the overall atmosphere. The characters you create must draw on those characters but you can re-imagine them in any way you think is interesting. Like Zsasz being a mob hitman in Gotham or Copperhead being a female south-american assassin in Arkham Origins. As long as your PC has some kind of tie to or is inspired by an existing DC character, anything goes.

This is a DC rp so I think it'd be better to have re-imagined DC characters than completely new OCs. And it still gives you tons of creative freedom.

@Zoldyck, thank you and Weird Tales for your interest. If I get at least four people interested I'll make an OOC, but it is never too late to apply. Neveeeeerrrrr.

I like this. It seems that there's a lot of possible characters to play.

Let me get this straight - no hero characters, but anything else goes. So would Major Lilywhite (as an example) be bordering on acceptable?

@VerifyinTr1gIDs Basically you can't play a straight laced noble hero. You can play anyone on the anti-hero to villain scale. Characters like Question or Batwoman may be good-aligned but they're not classically heroic. You're perfectly capable of playing a character who does good things but in a way that might not be so good. This is the Suicide Squad after all, anyone who is on the Squad isn't normally the kind of person you see in the Justice League.

However even though your characters aren't supposed to be full-heroic, you can even reinvent DC characters, give them darker twists. Like in Kingdom Come, Hawkman is a half-bird eco-terrorist. Or you can go a different route. Use the same name that a classic hero has but have the person with that mantle be a much more cynical or flawed take on that character.

I don't know that much about iZombie but if you're playing a zombified character, you're pretty much guaranteed to be exactly in the antihero-villain scale I'm talking about so it should be fine. And even if the original character isn't in that, you can twist them to fit in the range. Also that might just be the most comic-booky name I've ever heard. Major Lilywhite?

@Asuu Bane would be pretty cool to see. Would you go with his whole Genius Bruiser thing or would he just be muscle?

I should have an OOC tonight or early tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm thinking of keeping his Genius Bruiser persona going on. Is it required to change the characters up? I'd be interested in seeing how The Dark Knight Rises version of Bane would fit into the SS.

No it's not required unless you want to twist a normally heroic character darker.

Dark Knight Bane would certainly be interesting, but would he have Venom?

That's something I haven't exactly figured out. In the movie, he did not utilize venom - I believe. His mask provides him with painkillers that makes him immune to pain, correct? Maybe he can develop more things to filter through his mask, but without the addiction venom gives him. It may happen later on, however. His pure skill and already inhuman strength should be enough for now. Not to mention his charisma and genius-level intellect.

Good news campers, OOC is up. I put all the backstory and information you need, I look forward to seeing what you cook up.

@Asuu Yup his mask gave him painkillers. Whether you want to add in some version of Venom later is entirely up to you.

Again, this roleplay will never ever close sign-ups. Jump in with a sheet or sheets at any time.

Well, I want to save Major Lilywhite for much later in the RP. I assume (and I want to keep it this way) that most of the DCEU is unaware of zombies. In CW's iZombie, zombies are able to appear human and act humanly, given they eat a brain every once in a while.

Major Lilywhite is a human with a zombie-detecting intuition. He is blackmailed by an energy drink corporation (Max Rager) to hunt down and kill zombies from a list.

If for any reason he is sentenced to Belle Reve and Task Force X/Suicide Squad, I assume it would be because the government managed to track down whoever killed the zombies. To cover up the zombie issue, Amanda Waller (because she knows everything) detains him because the public now knows who's been killing the "innocent people" (zombies). She then blackmails him to join Task Force X/Suicide Squad because of his experience in zombie killing.

Because he's an everyday civilian, I find that it would be funnier to portray Major shocked when he is associated and forced to work with Task Force X/Suicide Squad. This will work better when the group has been fully established. I also will often portray his reluctancy from letting anyone know about zombies.

Otherwise, I will be thinking of additional characters so I can participate at the beginning of the RP. I would really like to see how the other characters will be so I can choose a character that can at least provide some interesting dialogue and diversity. For instance, an idea I had was a magical adaptation of The Joker, portrayed like comedian Anthony Jeselnik, where his powers come from telling morbid and offensive jokes. I haven't really worked out the kinks yet, but I'm probably not going to because I don't want to put in too many Gotham characters.

@VerifyinTr1gIDs Well the Joker already exists but you could always make a similar character. Right now we have Bane in progress and Deadshot is a gun-slinger so some kind of support character or metahuman would be good.

I need someone to inject life into the roleplay though.

Do you plan to use the canon of the upcoming movie? I was under the impression that any DC non-hero could be RP'd or subject to reimagination, making my version of the Joker acceptable.

Oh, and here's some funny unrelated pics to contemplate:
