“Would you forsake your child in the name of progress? Would you forget your mother for the sake of progress? Would you betray your friend for the sake of progress? Then how can we do this to the pokemon who got us here? What gives us the right or the reason to destroy not only our mother earth and fail our pokemon friends but deny our children the future they deserve? It must end here. We can’t turn back the clock, but my friends we can make a new future, A future that saves pokemon and ourselves. To do that we have to give up our petty ways and relearn the respect that fostered our growth. It will not be easy, and the costs are high. My generation has failed this earth, and so we leave it to the next. We go to where we can do no harm, an exile for our failures. You true children of earth who have proven your dedication to a new mission. To save what we lost. I know that together you and your pokemon can save this world. Do not doubt, do not despair. With your pokemon at your side you can do anything. Arceus be with you.” – Arthur Neil, Farewell Address
Pokemon. A world with such majesty and potential, and we nearly destroyed it. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Prof. Michael Shale. I act as head of pokemon sciences in the small village of Letchworth. It’s my job to tend to all situations involving pokemon. It’s a very hectic job, but worth every moment. Pokemon are fascinating creatures with astounding powers. It is through their work with humanity that we grew into a grand society, but as the years went on greed took hold and our ideals of progress soon overwhelmed the planet. We ravaged its resources and destroyed its environments. The pokemon we once relied on were now in grave danger.
Pokemon had long been paired up with people called Trainers. These dedicated people worked with pokemon for many reasons, and often proved themselves in youth in Pokemon Leagues. It was those Leagues that spearheaded a revolution in how we treat the world and pokemon. They along with the governments of the world worked hard to undo the damage we had done. The International League, home to the best trainers in the world, focused on the physical defense of pokemon providing aid to endangered areas and helping to preserve habitat. The government reinforced laws to protect nature as a whole trying to push green tech and safer methods while still maintaining our society. The effort was valiant, but it was clear we were beyond the point of no return. Populations were growing and the choice we becoming them or us.
Then a mysterious thing occurred called the Deoxys event. A tiny comet landed on earth containing a new species of pokemon. It was befriended and captured by the young new International champion Arthur Neil. Deoxys provided new insight into space and lead to a new space age of technology. This wasn’t enough to save the world, but it gave us a new option. It was agreed that to save the human race and the world humanity would leave for the stars. Starships were made and people evacuated for a new settlement of mars. The red planet had no life to destroy, but could be safely colonized and maintained with the new safer technologies as a base.
Not everyone could part with Earth though. Some decided to stay and pay for their failures, others simply refused, and other like my great great grandfather remained vowing to restore the earth and protect it. Today small towns dot the world living a new harmony as we oversee the rebirth of the planet. Once again special men and women join with pokemon to maintain this balance. These Trainers are the cornerstone of our societies protecting both the people and the wild world sometimes from each other. I work closely with them studying the adaptability of pokemon and how they have come to cope with the strange world we live in now.
But that’s enough about me. The Trainer Head, Jaklo Riecher, asked me to get you all acquainted with how things work in the town, so I suppose I’ll start with him. The Trainers as I said act as a guardian force for the town protecting it and serving its citizens. Jaklo Riecher is our Trainer Head. These Trainers, also called Rangers, all report back to him. He’s the chief so to say. Jaklo is one of the most skilled trainers in the North Eastern area, and now uses that skill to train other rangers as well as handle the more serious of occurrences. Below him is his Alice Maez. She is another very skilled trainer who ranks the same as Jaklo, but serves as second in command. Speaking of Ranks as Trainers you are split up into a number of groups based on a combination of skill and service: Oak, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, and master. Both Jaklo and Alice are platinum trainers having served for many years and proven their skill many times even though they are rather young for the rank. There’s a tall tale about how the two along with their pokemon stopped the old Mt. Morris dam from collapsing and flooding the entire eastern plains and the ruin of Rochester. The water could have mixed with the pollution of the city and ruined the entire area. In truth the dam wasn’t that damaged and other rangers helped plenty, but it was under Jaklo and Alice’s direction that the disaster was averted.
Now let’s talk about all of you. As trainers you will be working to protect the town of course. It’s far too dangerous to just let anyone wander around out in the wilderness. Wild pokemon are after all wild. They were far more tame back when society was still big, but have gone back to older instincts. It’s not a bad thing, but something we have to be careful about. As lower ranks you’ll be dealing with smaller situations. Wild pokemon getting too close to town, nearby salvage, and general services. Trainers are core to the town’s well being, but don’t get full of yourself Trainers are only one small part.
The citizens of Letchworth are a hardworking hardy lot. Four generations have lived here in the beautiful park. Itself a monument to the restoration of nature. William Letchworth had bought the property in the eighteen hundreds from farmers and began to regrow the forests. Sorry, I’ve gotten side tracked. Now the people of Letchworth are from a number of places originally. Many came from Rochester and Unova both urban areas too polluted to live in now. It’s a nice quiet place to live. The farms circle the homes that circle the shops, and everything is built around the Ranger Hall. Here just take a look at this map:
((((So as i mentioned I've redone the map. The new layout is obviously bigger and designates an area to supply the needs of pokemon. The light blue is a fresh water are while the smaller dark blue is salt since some people have salt water pokemon [by some i mean like 4]. Anyway it's again an area open to sandboxing in whatever might be needed. The trainer area is going to facilitate the pokemon lab, a training facility, a barracks, and workshop which handles tech brought back.))))
Don’t mistake the quaint setting for simple though. Just because we have sworn to protect nature doesn’t mean we’ve gone back to the stone age. Technology is still widely used here, but we are far more careful. Everything is recycled, and our energy is produced cleanly as possible. As trainers you will have access to some very top of the line things. PC’s, healing machines, and more great inventions. One device to be ever familiar with is the pokeball. This small sphere acts as a resonant aura holding chamber, basically meaning it can hold any pokemon which chooses to be captured. We make them using the traditional apricorn method, and throw in a little modern technology.
We aren’t cut off either. We have two towns we communicate with somewhat often Rushing and Vint. Vint is down south a ways, and Rushing is over at the Niagara Falls. When things get bad we can rely on each other. They also have Trainers, and heads are Michelle in Rushing and Leon in Vint. Maybe once you’ve proven yourselves capable then we’ll let you travel out with a caravan to visit.
For now I think it’s time we got to some serious matters. Trainers are dedicated to balancing nature and civilization. It’s a thin, but hardline and we walk it everyday. This job can be one of the best in the world, but also very difficult. You will be tested often, and you’ll never know what will happen that day. Preparation is key to how we work.
Pokemon can be great allies, but also are wild entities. They have powers that sometimes cannot be matched by just one person. That’s why you’ll be in groups most of the time and never without your own pokemon. It’s never an easy day when it comes to it, but sometimes we have to put them down. Pokemon can go entirely farel and become only a threat. We’ve never seen a tamed pokemon do this, but wild pokemon in desperate situations have gone on rampages.
Pokemon aren’t the only danger. Some humans live out in the wilderness, and seek to survive through conquest. Instead of working for themselves they try to take what is ours. These outlanders are rare in our territory, but are common far north and south. It’s unlikely for us to meet them, but always keep your guard up. We play an active role in keeping them from salvaging the more dangerous technology of the cities that we have banned. It’ll be some time before you newer members are allowed in the major urban ruins though.
I think that’s enough from me though. Jaklo asked me to hand out these forums to everyone just a survey so we can reorganize the records.
