"I'll bet. So," he continued. "How long is it going to take to finish this job do you think? Because my deal with Kaiser is a little time sensitive. Like, life or death time sensitive."
"Not long." Ty said. "We can jump to Quealt, and with Dana's help forge some credentials to get us docking permissions, but once we're loaded we'll have to go to Coal under sub-jump speeds to keep a low profile, so two days at most."
"Fuck," Raven swore. "No way it could be done sooner? At all?" Finn won't last that long, he said two days maybe. I can't take the chance, he thought. If only we still had the Phaser...
"Not unless you wanna blow the lid off the whole thing. As soon as the local police realize we use faked credentials they're gonna start tracking our ship, and literally warping spacetime is not subtle. Máni haulers are some of the fastest cargo ships out there, so unless you got another ship that can hold fifteen tonnes of cargo kicking around, the Vespera's our best shot."
"Well we're gonna have to do something, because Finn is in serious trouble and he's going to die in two days if he doesn't get what he needs from Kaiser, and even if we magically make it back in less than that, Kaiser won't go out and look for what he needs until I've brought her the money."
Raven sighed. "Last time it cost us almost 15 000 credits, but this time, she told Finn double or nothing," Raven replied. "We got about 6 000 between us right now, so you can see why we're panicking."
Ty raised his hands defensively. "No no. It's not that kind of loan. It's like something Dana does sometimes. Gimmie a sec I'll call her up. She'll be able to explain it." Ty rolled up his sleeve and called Diana on his wrist mounted comm. Dana answered after half a ring. "Yes, captain?" She asked, her digitized face looking back out from the screen. "You think you could tell Raven here about that money thing you do? You know when we don't wanna pay someone."
"Because it is very 'sketcy.'" Dana replied. "It's a program I wrote some time ago called Fool's Gold. It essentially creates a fake credit deposit receipt that traces back to a fake account and is untraceable for a time. It will appear as though the desired amount has been deposited into the receiving account until the next time that the credits are validated by the mint systems. Then it disappears."
"My thoughts exactly." Ty grinned nudging Raven's arm. "You send a fake deposit to Kaiser, we do our job, get payed and you slip her the money before she even knows she's been duped."
"30 000 credits to Alina Kaiser," said Raven. "I'll message her now." He turned on his comm, sending Kaiser a quick message: You'll have all the money you need soon. Now do your part.
"Roger. Give me ten minutes at most." Dana said before hanging up. "I hate it when she does that." Ty sighed. "But ah well. You got your money now, and we have a ob to do. Welcome aboard the crew of the Vespera!" He grinned widely and threw his arm around Raven, gesturing grandly with the other.
Ty chuckled and picked up a jaunty pace through the overcrowded streets of the Middle. He clicked open the cargo doors of the Vespera and led them through it's dimly lit hold.
