Duplicity
A D&D Inspired Rp
Premise
Many years ago two children from different families came together and became friends. They played, they grew, they learned; as children tend to. Both grew to fine young men who had a flair for the world of magic; attending a far off academy to hone their respective talents. They both were very successful in their own way, excelling in different fields of magic but complimenting each other as well as any two could.
There was little time to much else other than study and practice but when such a luxury as down time came along you could bet they would be in the cities grand market center sifting through trinkets of this and that in hopes of finding a needle in a hay stack. One day, they found such a needle; more accurately two pieces to a rune engraved medallion. One-hundred gold pieces is what it cost but to them they felt the strange markings would pay off in spades.
How both right and wrong they were. The runes were unlike any they knew and even when presented to those that were far more learned they discovered nothing to translate it. So each of the friends retained one half and parted ways upon completion of their apprenticeship, setting out to try to solve the puzzle which now hung around each of their necks.
Research and luck in the depths of the archives after years of looking, hidden beneath layers of dust and long forgotten scriptures, led one of them to quite the discovery one late night as he burned the midnight oil. An ancient scroll finally allowed him to translate his half of the medallion. Excited beyond belief he quickly wrote to his childhood friend so they could come together and finally solve the mystery that had plagued them for so long.
Such a prize they found out they did hold. A necomancers tool to control the undead, creatively enough called The Amulet of the Dead. Yet they only had two out of three parts, the third, a gemstone in the middle, was missing. The two pieces would allow the wearer to control undead to a point but once they had the gem, they would be nearly untouchable. One man saw the darkness within such an item while the other could only see the potential power to wield. And so the decent into betrayal began.
One refusing to give in, the other plotting and scheming to obtain his darkest desire. One thing led to another and poison was slipped into an evening nightcap. He did not mean to kill his childhood friend, only to weaken him enough to take what he wanted. Such a loss only drove the remaining man further into the abyss, thinking that now, once he recovered the gem spoken about on the back of the amulet, he could perhaps raise his friend once again.
More years passed, more madness, in search of the missing piece until finally its location was discovered but it was heavily protected in such a way he knew he would need help; of the undead kind. But where to find enough dead to raise? Why not right there, between the shakily peaceful lands between the Orcs and Humans? Crush the treaty between the two and start a war. War brought death, death brought a possible army of undead for the now mad necromancer.
More plotting and war had broken out, orcs slaying humans, humans slaying orcs. The body count is climbing and time grows short. This is where we begin, in the middle of a town on the outskirts of war is where our adventurers will meet. Why they are there is up to you, what happens next will be shown by me in the first ic post.
Will you join me?
