Name: Da Cheung
Nicknames/Aliases: The Bear Thing, Big Gray, Yeti, Tree Man.
X-Men Code Name: Drop Bear
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Physical Description: 6 foot 4, 250 pounds of muscle and sinew, and covered in coarse, gray fur. He has a big black nose shaped like a lozenge, beady black eyes, fuzzy ears... Alright, I'll just address the elephant in the room here and say that he's a burly koala man. He is often dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, but usually goes bare-chested wearing loose pants with hand and footwraps for any self defense classes he may take, or really for any tasks that might require a lot of mobility/flexibility.
Mutations: Da once had the ability to take on the physical features of different animals/people if he came into extensive contact with their bodily fluids. However, his DNA has been changed so drastically that this power has been swapped entirely for a new one.
As a half animal, his instincts are heightened. His martial arts come more naturally to him than mere muscle memory, and he has developed a natural sense for climbing, able to find feasible routes up buildings, trees, and rock faces. He has also developed the claws, strength, agility, and muscular endurance of a koala. He can hold onto ledges for hours or even days, and lift and carry up to 300 lbs with ease. Given his training combined with his new, enhanced body, he is also tough as nails, incredibly durable, and able to heal quickly. (As in, "broken bones are in working order in one or two weeks, big lacerations are gone in a few days", not, "I can re-attach my arm in the midst of battle.") He can also hear and smell exceptionally, useful for tracking people down (or avoiding them, as the case may be) from up to one mile away.
Personality: Cheung is very calm and very laid back and optimistic, not often letting negative things get under his skin. He practices Kung Fu as exercise and sport, and has been taught that it is wrong to intentionally harm people or animals since the day he arrived at the monastery. He never had the time to find out whether his koala stomach was capable of handling meat, because he has always been staunchly vegetarian.
Background: Da Cheung doesn't remember much about his younger years. He remembers that he used to have a mom and a dad and some older siblings. He also remembers that when he was 8, his parents branded him a demon and sent him to a monastery, as it seemed he had developed an odd tongue, claws, and mottled skin after playing with their new dog. He never came into contact with many animals again after that. At least that's what the priests he lived with told him. He doesn't really remember what he looked like then. He remembers seeing everything in shades of green, and being able to smell things that other people couldn't.
He slowly returned to "normal" over the course of a year, but showed no interest in returning to his home, and the monks, finding that "his spirit was particularly adaptive to the fellow creatures he came into contact with" felt that he would live a much safer life in the monastery. Then the scientist came.
He doesn't remember what his name was. He only knew that he too was a pacifist, and when the militaries funding the project (It had been a short-lived scientific cooperation between the US Army and the PLA) asked him to create mutant killing machines, he had purposefully come up short every time. This time, his supervisors had had enough. They demanded exactly what they wanted this time: A highly trained individual of enlisting age with enhancements suited to short-range and guerilla warfare.
That was when he decided to lure a peaceful young monk to the laboratory and combine him with an equally peaceful woodland creature... The supervisors were infuriated, and the scientist was never seen again. Da, now the thing he is today, ran off, but was procured by authorities and sent to a mutant asylum on one of the pacific islands. It was later found and liberated by a band of mutant protesters, and Da, being one of the few of schooling age, was sent to Xavier's institution with the minors and other young adults.
Recap of your mutations awakening: Since he can no longer be seen in public, and has been separated from everyone he's ever known and loved, (Who now have no idea where he is, or if he's still alive...) Da regards the experiment back home to be the most tragic thing that's ever happened to him in his life. He hasn't kept it a secret (Nor can he, really, without being dressed conspicuously,) and anyone who's seen him knows for sure that he's a mutant.
