[OOC] The End is Near: Zombie Apocalypse

Every day 150,000 people die; 56 million every year. The use of technology, developing medicine and education has gone far in lowering that number every decade, but what happens when the dead starts walking?

Six years ago American citizens heard of a few isolated incidents across Africa where a man would grow sick with a fever and die within a few days - fairly normal, why was this newsworthy? The part that makes it newsworthy and inspired countless teenage pranks, was that these men would get up after their death, exactly six days later. These incidents numbered in six, each exactly 13 months apart; little did we know how large of a problem it was going to become. In the last year every known government agency and military chain of command has gone down, with few operating as they were meant to. Billions of people have died and the walking dead continue to slaughter.

It's been less than a year since our group came together, bound by survival, and lacking many of the tools they will need to survive. Trouble is brewing and winter is approaching, as well the group is tired of running. They need a place to stay, but no where seems safe; will they find it?

Above all else, I expect active participation. Be it within plotting in the OOC, or messaging me with questions or ideas. Time time and effort, to put into the role play because it requires everyone's full co-operation and participation.

At least one post a week, but if you may manage more it would be lovely for our survival. Each post should have at the very least, two well written paragraphs for each character involved.

There is no maximum on the amount of characters that you may have, though I must ask you do not overburden yourself with too many. The recommended amount should be between three or four at most, but if you can handle it, all the power to you.

I am absolute. I should mention I am a rather strict Game Master at times, especially with character creation. I do willingly listen to ideas and opinions, but I will ultimately make decisions based upon the basis and plans for the role play, as well as the character of the Player displayed to me.

Above I stated that there is no character limit, but each one should be unique, a three dimensional person, capable of development. Think about how they would react to situations and people without bias.

Nathan 'Nate' Johnson

"SECOND AMENDMENT, MOTHERFUCKER!" - Nate shortly before shooting a zombie with a shotgun.

Name: Nathan 'Nate' Johnson
Age: 41

Allergies: Fatally allergic to bees, other than that nothing else.
Scars/Tattoos: Small piece of shrapnel in left eye (expanded upon in old injuries), other than that nothing else.
Old Injuries: When he was working as a construction worker at 24, a small piece of shrapnel ricocheted and hit Nate in the left eye. It blinded him permanently. Also during that job, he badly broke his leg after he fell two stories, and, even after it recovered, he had a horrible limp.
Height/Weight: 5'11", often just says that he's 6'0", and 194 pounds (a little flabby).
Health Conditions: Scoliosis and mild schizophrenia (hears faint voices in his head but nothing else). Has a limp on his left leg and is blind in one eye. Other than that, healthy both physically and mentally.

Skills: Shooting, mainly semi-auto pistols, bolt-action rifles and shotguns. Bad at shooting with SMGs or any other automatic weapons.
Hobbies: Hunting, writing, drinking and gambling.
Fears: Arachnophobia, apiphobia and thanatophobia (only fears that he'll die).
Strengths: Great endurance and physical strength.
Weaknesses: Blind in one eye (see: Old Injuries) and a permanent limp (also see: Old Injuries).

Personality: Cocky, witty and pretty much a carbon copy of an action movie hero... That's a good place to start when you think of Nate. He says what he thinks about situations, and, a habit that started when the apocalypse broke out, always says a one-liner when he kills a zombie. He's very loud and not scared to rush into dangerous situations, but, when it looks like he'll die, he'll hightail it out of there. Nate also speaks in a typical Boston accent, having been born and spending most of his life there.
Biography: Nate was born in Boston to a couple who owned a sub shop, 'Johnson Subs'. What an original name. From a young age, Nate was used to being alone due to his parents staying out late, in fact he spent his first night home alone at 5. When he turned 11, he started to head out and do things while his parents left him alone, and even started to ditch school. He got involved with street gangs and began stealing, and got caught with a bottle of soda at 14. His parents were called and started to pay more attention to him, despite his protest.

After a giant fight with his dad two years later, Nate was kicked out and moved into his uncle's house across town. His uncle started taking him out to shooting ranges, and even started to take him hunting later. Nate enjoyed this, and, when he turned 18, he joined the police force, only to be fired three years later because he shot a man who had already surrendered in a shoot-out. Nate then got a job in construction and stayed there for a few years, which gave him his two old injuries.

Nate quit his job in construction when he was 32, then became a commercial fisherman. He lived on the boat until he was 39, then finally bought a house. He stopped fishing and got on disability (due to his two injuries, scoliosis and schizophrenia), using that to pay the bills. He lived this way until 2 years later, when it all went to shit. Over his lifetime from when he lived with his uncle to now, he has kept his 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, which was (believe it or not) a Christmas present from his uncle.

Weaknesses: Trust issues, Grives over the death of friends/loved ones

Personality: Weary of new people, Tough, Protective. Fimbar would kill for his loved ones and give and arm and a leg if it meant they could be stocked with supplies for a few days. Although this isn't always helpful to the group, he dosent see himself as some gun grunt, he'll speak up if something needs to be spoken about, even arguing with the leader.

Biography: Fimbar was born and raised in Ireland son of John and Mary. From a young age he learned to fire a gun at 9 as the troubles in Ireland would shoot their houses windows and frightening the family. It wasn't safe in the mornings to even play football, in a training session the manager got shot in the shoulder for being Catholic. As his dad couldn't handle everything Fimbar and his older brother Oscar, were taught to shoot a pistol if anything happened. Then he became a teenager and the troubles were over he had to get a job, manual labour. He became a joiner, drilling, brick laying, tiling and whatnot.

Then when he became 19, he wanted to use his football skills and enjoy his job. So he moved to America and became a p.e teacher. The first school he taught was primary, but when he turned 22, he started working at a middle school.

Skills: Lara has some basic medical training. She was a nurse before everything started happening though she had just barely started.

Strengths: She has a large amount of stamina and can take more pain, both emotionally, and physically than most people
Weaknesses: She cares deeply about the wellbeing of others over her own. It is both a strength and a weakness.

Personality: Lara is a generally sweet, and calm girl, but she has a hard exterior that can also be hard for most people to get past. She can be a little hard to get along with at times but her hard exterior completely disappears when she is trying to take care of someone.
Biography: Lara grew up in a normal family. She was an only child and her parents encouraged her to do whatever made her happy in life. She was a good child and rarely got in trouble. She made decent grades and graduated in the top ten percent of her class. She lived a fairly normal life, occasionally dating but she never really cared for a relationship while she was still going to school. After she graduated college she started seeing one of her fellow nurses but they hadn't quite started dating yet, though most people had considered them to be a couple. When the apocalypse started getting worse Lara lost contact with him. Before she found the group she figured out why he hadn't tried to make sure she was safe and hadn't answered her calls. Of all the people to meet in the street and have to kill she never thought it would be her lover. She had to beat his head in with a baseball bat in order to keep herself alive. Though the groups knows nothing of this experience this is why she can seem hard to get along with at times.

Extras: She found a dog in the street guarding a small child. She had chosen to help the animal and child but the child was sick already and didn't make it far. The dog, whom the child called Lazlo has followed her around ever since.

Health Conditions: In good physical condition. Hasn't found a psychiatrist to diagnose him yet, but he loves killing zombies way more than a normal person.

Skills: Melee combat and improvising weapons. He can't shoot worth a damn and has minimal survival skills, but he can massacre zombies with almost anything.
Hobbies: Pursuing ever more hilarious and creative zombie kills. Also baseball and Legos.
Fears: Spiders, dentists and heights. Shows an unhealthy lack of fear about the actual apocalypse.
Strengths: Defense and crowd control. Also good at intimidating / beating the bejeezus out of unfriendly survivors.
Weaknesses: Terrible aim, reckless and impulsive behavior, a tendency to take big risks, and generally showing very little survival instinct.

Personality: Nick is friendly, boisterous, and violently off his rocker. He wouldn't hurt a fly in normal circumstances, but he absolutely loves showering violence on the living dead - or anyone who proves themselves to be threats to his friends. He loves people and is deeply loyal to his friends, as well as having a penchant for corny jokes and laughing a lot (some times about rather ghastly subjects). Call it madness or bravery, he isn't letting the end of the world get him down - he's having as much fun with it as possible.

Biography: Nick is a man who's lost a lot. He was born and raised in a city in a fairly normal middle class childhood - he studied business in college and managed to land himself a fairly comfortable middle class job. He lived with his pregnant girlfriend Karen in a pretty nice apartment and was happy for a while.

Then the end of the world began. His parents lived in the first place the infection hit the United States - he lost contact with them immediately after the military attempted a quarantine. His brother, a marine, was KIA when the same quarantine broke. Before long the living dead were crawling through the streets and breaking into his apartment, and he was forced to mercy kill Karen after she was bitten. After that he wandered off into the streets and eventually linked up with the survivors, a significantly more unhinged man.

He has no tattoos, though a few trivial scars, one major scar on his side from when the apocalypse first began, he got horrible road rash on his side from falling off of a motorcycle. Skye was a loser. He loved LARPing, was a witch, loved Chemistry, and let's not forget was way into Zombies before that was. real thing. Fir the two years prior to the mess he was an avid partaker of Zombie Survivalist propaganda, and when shit went down, he thought he was prepared. Had a friend with a motorcycle, they had their survivalist bags, everything was hunky dory. NOT. On their way out of town, Skye falls off of the motorcycle and gets hurt really badly. Later his friend and him get separated, and they had the real skill in defending themselves, so Skye thought he'd be eaten within the week. He successfully survived, but that shit scared him and left him freaking out. Finally he's been with a group for almost a year, and he hopes that he can survive and bring those he cares for with him.
