It was such a nice day outside to be doing work in the fields. It was warm out, but not so much that Reira felt as though she'd pass out. She was currently kneeling down, using gloved hands to dig apart the dirt so that she could plant some berries there. The Daycare lady asked Reira to go and pick some berries for the Pokemon staying at the Daycare, and so she did. The people who owned the Berry Fields were just starting to harvest the berries from the trees when she arrived, so Reira kindly offered to help the man and his daughter out.
She carried a large basket filled to the brim with Pecha, Aspear, Oran, and many other different kinds of berries that she'd picked from the trees. Currently she was planting more berries in the bare spots in the dirt. She was almost finished with her work, and waiting for Coco, her Buneary, to come back and give her the berries that she had picked. Before that happened, the daughter of the man who owned the fields came over to her and poured her shirt full of berries into Reira's already overflowing basket.
"I think that's all of them!" the little girl chirped and smiled, sitting down next to Reira. "Woo I'm beat!" she said, wiping a hand across her forehead.
"Good work." Reira said in her naturally soft voice, taking off her gloves and picking up the few berries that had toppled out of the basket.
"Yeah but where's my dad?"
"And Coco..." the two girls wondered.
"Hey! There they are! By the house!" the little girl squealed as the two came over. The Buneary immediately hopped over and stood in front of Reira. The small bunny pokemon's mouth was smeared with the juice of berries.
"Coco... didn't I tell you? We're supposed to pick the berries, not eat them." she said with a smile, pulling the pokemon over and cleaning her face with the end of her apron.
"Oh don't worry Reira, she didn't eat all of them." the owner said, picking up the small pokemon. He held her over the basket of berries and started to gently shake the bunny up and down, smiling as berries started falling out of its fur. "I caught her trying to hide these." he explained, putting the pokemon down when all the berries were out. Reira threw a glare at Coco who looked apologetic.
"Don't be upset with her. We still have more than enough berries to share with the Daycare. Let me get you another basket so you can take some with you."
"Thank you. The pokemon there are going to be happy about that." she said lowering her head and giving a shy smile.
"Buneary!"
After getting the basket of berries, Reira bid farewell to the owner of the Berry Fields and continued on her way to Route 7. Coco was perched atop her head squealing at the occasional pokemon that popped their heads out of the water or the tall grass that surrounded the Daycare. When she approached the door, the Daycare man smiled at her as he rocked back and forth in his chair. She waved to him and watched as Coco jumped off her head onto his lap just before she stepped inside.
The air conditioned building was a cool relief after she had been outside most of the day. The always smiling face of the Daycare Lady greeted her when she stepped inside and set the basket of berries on the counter.
"Welcome home Reira. When I sent you to get those berries, it never crossed my mind that you would be gone all morning. You missed breakfast and everything. What happened? Did they give you a hard time?"
Reira gave a small smile and shook her head.
"N-no, it wasn't that. I offered to help them harvest all their berries and plant some more. I guess it did take all morning.""Oh well that's good. I left your breakfast on your desk in your room. Oh... that reminds me. Are you still going to get your haircut today?" the woman asked.
Reira just nodded and ran a hand through her hair. It was getting quite long, and she wanted to get it cut short again.
"Well, my husband and I have been thinking, and I figured it's a good time to tell you. We think you and Coco should go on a journey together!" she said excitedly.
Reira blinked.
"A what?""You know, a journey! See the rest of what the world has to offer."
Nervously, Reira rubbed her arm.
"That's a nice thought but, I'd rather just stay here and-""Ah ah ah! You can't refuse. My husband and I already decided. Unless you go on a journey, your rent will be tripled. No... quadrupled!"
"B-but-""Now I know it's sudden but... we think it would be the best for you. My husband and I are old. We've gotten our chance to see the world. Now we want the same thing for you."
"What am I supposed to do? I love living here and working here. I don't want to leave."It'll help you break out of your shell. Meet new people, make friends, live a little before it's too late."
"But-!""Now now, I don't want to hear it. You go upstairs and pack some things. You just got your allowance so that should be enough to get you going. The next time I see you, I expect to see a better person in front of me."
With that, the Daycare lady walked off, going to the back to feed the pokemon the new berries Reira had brought in. With nothing left to be said, Reira sighed and did what she was told, going up to her bedroom and packing some necessities in her bag to take with her on her journey. She counted her money, thinking it was a good amount, and stuffed her wallet inside her bag too. She got Coco's pokeball off her desk and headed downstairs.
As soon as the door opened, Coco lunged at her and jumped up onto her head.
"So, I guess we're going on a journey now." Reira said, reaching up to take Coco off her head and place her on the ground.
"I need you to behave and protect me, okay? Can you do that?" she asked the little bunny pokemon.
"Buneary!"
"Good. Well then, let's start at Lumiose City. We're bound to meet some nice people there."
