"I was born there." Kili nodded. "We lived there, till the dragon came and we had to flee."

"This is not something we can treat lightly." Gandalf was trying to explain to Saruman who sat across the table from him. "Trolls have come down from the mountains, Orcs have attacked us on the road!"
"Hardly a prelude to war." Elrond raised his eyebrows sceptically.

"Mm", the fae hummed in acceptance to her curiousity. "Fangorn?", she asked.

"Always you must meddle. Looking for trouble where none exists!", Saruman argues. "Let him speak", the elf Queen calmly told them. "There is something at work beyond the evil of Smaug, something far more powerful. We can remain blind to it, but it will not be ignoring us, that I can promise you. A sickness hides over the Greenwood. The woodsmen who live there now call it Mirkwook, and, uh, they say…", the grey wizard trailed and stuttered. "Well, don’t stop now, tell us what the woodsmen say?", Saruman pushed. "They speak of a Necromancer, living in Dol Guldur, a sorcerer who can summon the dead", Gandalf concluded in grim.

"No, I have never been to Fangorn." Kili answered around his pipe as he took another breath of it. "I have heard that it is a dangerous place. That the trees have become dark, and hateful. Is that true?"

"Necromancer?" Saruman scoffed. "There is no such thing! It is likely no more than a human sorcerer, dabbling in dark magic. Hardly dangerous."

"No. Not dangerous. But sad", Maleficent said slowly in a sorrow-filled voice. "The trees grow tall, but something angers them. I don't know what, but I can feel that a strange malice is corrupting the land", she forebodes mildly in a wise voice. "What of you? Can you feel the malice that took that mountain? The fire that grows within? The creature that hoards its greatest treasure?", she asked him while her green-yellow eyes turned amber from the fire.

"And so I though too. But Radagast has seen…" "Do not speak to me of Radagast the Brown. He’s a foolish fellow", Saruman spat in anger. "Well, he’s odd, I grant you. He lives a solitary life" "It’s not that. It’s his excessive consumption of mushrooms. They’ve addled his brain, and yellowed his teeth. I warned him. It is unbefitting one of the Istari wandering the wood…", the white wizard trailed off in disgust.

"You carry something with you." Galadriel spoke to Gandalf in his mind. "It came to you from Radagast, he found it in Dol Guldur." it was more of a statement than a question, but the Grey Wizard answered anyway.
"Yes."
"Show me."

Taking out the sword that Radagast had given him from under his cloak, and set it on the table for Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman to see. The blade was still wrapped in the tattered cloth.

"What is that?" "A relic of Mordor", after Galadriel said this, Elrond unveils the sword from the blanket. "A Morgul blade", he said, astonished at seeing such a weapon exist. "Made for the witch-king of Angmar, and buried with him. When Angmar fell, the men of the North took his body, and all that he possessed and sealed it within the high fells of Rhudaur. Deep within the rock they buried him, in a tomb so dark it would never come to light", the lady of the wood answered him. "This is not possible. A powerful spell lies upon those tombs, they cannot be opened" "What proof do we have this weapon came from Angmar’s grave?", Saruman demanded. "I have none", Gandalf confessed. "Because there is none. Let us examine what we know. A single orc pack has dared to cross the Bruinen. A dagger from a by-gone age has been found. And a human sorcerer who calls himself the Necromancer, has taken up residence in a ruined fortress. It’s not so very much, after all. The question of this dwarvish company however, troubles me deeply. I’m not convinced, Gandalf. I do not feel I can condone such a quest. If they’d come to me, I might have spare them this disappointment. I will not pretend to understand your reasons for raising their hopes", the white wizard skeptically explained as if he wasn't very convinced at all. "Same for that winged elf that you carry along with you", he added.

"My reasons are my own, Saruman." Gandalf answered evasively, tuning out the rambling of the White Wizard as he knew he was right to do what he had done. He turned instead to Galadriel as she spoke to him in his mind again.
"...They're leaving."
"...Yes." he answered slowly, trying not to smile. He had deliberately stalled to distract their attention so the dwarves could slip away unnoticed.
"You knew." it was a statement, not a question.

Right after she said this, Lindir interrupts their meeting. "My Lord Elrond. The dwarves, they’re gone", he reported.

Maleficent was back into her catsuit, and was now the only one who can help the dwarves reach the mountain for now, and she figured that Gandalf will eventually follow. "I suggest we all stay together. No dwarf, or hobbit, should be left behind. That's the last thing we would want", she reminded the company as she led them on.

"What about Gandalf?" Bilbo asked as the hobbit stopped to look back at Rivendell.
"Master Baggins, I suggest you keep up." called Thorin from the front of the group. "Balin, lead on. You know these paths the best of all of us."

"Aye", Balin confirmed with the group moving on, with the Fae just beside Thorin at the front of the group. "Be on your guard, we’re about to set foot over the Edge of the Wild", Maleficent warned them as the company moved through forests.

As they continue their journey, they come along a moutain pass, and Maleficent was nowhere in sight with them, at least not at the moment. As a violent thunderstorm begins, the conditions have turned highly dangerous upon the treacherous mountain. Now the Fae has been here before, and it would be best if they stuck together on this one. Appearing from the deep chasm, Maleficent hovered at the cliff's edge, so she could make sure they don't fall.

Most of the group managed to stay fairly well on the path, but being less used to travelling than the others Bilbo had begun to lag behind. His legs were shorter than even those of the dwarves and already they were throbbing from the strain of the uphill climb along the mountain pass. Not watching where he had been putting them, the hobbit stepped too close to the edge and his foot slipped off, sending him tumbling over the edge though he managed to grab hold of the side with his fingers so he didn't plummet to the bottom.

"Where's Bilbo?!"
"Where's the hobbit?!" Bofur and Dwalin began to shout as they suddenly noticed that Bilbo was not among the group.
"Heeeellppp!!!" the hobbit cried out as loud as he could, hoping somebody would hear him and pull him back up to safety.

Quick as she was in the air, and for it to be her friend, Maleficent didn't waste time to save him. Dangling over the edge she was, the fae gripped the wrist of his hand while in midair. For the extra weight, she didn't struggle, as she set him back with the group on the cliff, landing with him, so she herself was with them. "We must find shelter!", Thorin called over them. "Look out!", Dwalin howled as a giant rock came flying towards them. It hits the edge of the mountain, shattering above them. To give them better protection, she hovered herself over the group, and her huge wings covered most of them like an umbrella from the failing debris. A few rocks hit her back, but she didn't let her strength wane.

"Bless my beard, the legends are true!" Bofur yelled as his gaze travelled to where the first rock had come from. "Giants, Stone Giants!"
"Take cover, you fools!" Thorin bellowed at them as more debris rained down, Maleficent's wings may be protecting them for now but he was sure that even the fae couldn't withstand that much falling onto her for very much longer. They had to take cover somewhere else.

"Hold on!", Maleficent shouted over the thunder as the mountain around the company breaks. "Kili, grab my hand!", she heard her eldest godson shout to his sibling, as she just saw the rock between them starts separating them. Seeing a crack between her godsons, she knew that they couldn't protect each other now. The mountain they were on starts coming to life, and starts fighting with another. With the company split in half, she didn't know which one to protect more. Seeing that the moving rock Kili was on, made his situation even more risky. Making up her mind, she flew over to the swaying dwarves, and gripped the youngest's coat, so he was at least in her line of sight and not fall off the moving rock.

The others watched in horror as the other half of their group were sent plummeting towards the rest of the mountainside when the Stone Giant they were stuck on was knocked down by the other.

"Kili!!" Thorin bellowed as they ran down the path, expecting to see only remenants of weapons or clothing while the dwarves would all be gone for good. He sighed in relief as they got there and found the remaining group members all collapsed in a pile in the middle of the path, groaning loudly.
"It's alright, they're alive!" Dwalin shouted to the others at the back who couldn't see very well.

The fae looked in fear as they were about to collide into the mountain. Thinking fast, she tucked Kili against her in order to shield him from their upcoming fate. However, when they finally hit the mountain, there was no pressure against them, only making them fall off and land on the more safe-like part of the cliff. She still had Kili tucked against her chest as they landed. Unraveling her wings, Maleficent could see the others safe as well, which was a relief. Panting from exhaustion, she allowed herself to catch her breath, and manage to stand, although she didn't get far, and landed back down to one knee, feeling an ache in her leg.

"Are you...alright...?" Kili panted as he looked worriedly at Maleficent, since she clearly seemed to be putting less weight on one leg.

"I'm..fine. I just...", the fae trailed off as she tried to stand up once again with her wings trying to give her an advantage for balance. She gasped at the small pain that hit her leg, making her fall down once again. "Must have...hurt it..during the landing while I was covering you. Against a rock", Maleficent winced. It was probably bruised, and that she won't be able to walk at full speed and strength like she used to. "I just need to rest. Stay with me?", she could use a helping hand in this kind of state.

Kili looked on at her worriedly but nodded when she asked if he would stay. "Of course." he promised, knowing that the fae must be afraid.

She wasn't afraid of herself being in danger; she was afraid of herself not being to help those in danger. Especially for the company. Giving a sad smile, Maleficent hugged her youngest godson against her chest while she remained on the ground.

Thorin, however, didn't look pleased as he watched his nephew interact with such a creature. He didn't trust her yet, and he probably won't. Not yet, anyway. "I thought we’d lost our burglar", Dwalin suddenly sounded as he found Bilbo safe with the others. "He’s been lost ever since he left home. He should never have come. He has no place amongst us", the dwarven leader spat as the hobbit looked visibly hurt by this comment. Spotting a cave in the distance, Dwalin checks inside the mountain. "It looks safe enough" "Search to the back, the caves in the mountains are seldom unoccupied" "There’s nothing here" "We will rest here", Thorin told everyone else as they entered the big cave.

Maleficent tried to stand, but her bruised leg wouldn't give in for her actually do so.
