Question, if we want to converse with other players, do you prefer that it is all in the IC here, or would it be alright if we switch to PM and then submit chunks of conversation in the IC so it isn't a lot of super short posts? -I don't play a lot of group games, so I want to make sure that I don't step on toes or bother anyone.-

Appearance
Evelyn is 176cm (5'7”), thin, and proper. She's pale skinned and fair haired, and would have been pretty were it not for her scars. An attack on her house left her arms and legs burned, and her face sports several scars from the weapons of her assailants. Her eyes were pierced with blades, and she covers her eyes with a dark cloth to help hide her damaged skin (though not well enough).


Personality
Coming from an old family, Evelyn was raised to be well prepared for the high society. By high society, this narrator means the holders of the past. Proprietors and curators of relics and libraries. She's smart, suave, and well mannered.
Or at least she was.
Her past left her bitter and blunt. She's often unfriendly, and views those around her to be beneath her. She hides from public view often, and uses a servant to do her shopping and visiting. Evelyn, when in range of another, won't try as hard to hide her sharp tongue, and will butt into any conversation in which she over hears talk of relics.

Background
Evelyn was born in what passes as this society's upper class. Her father was rather rich, and made sure his daughters were educated. However, her family's wealth led others to believe that they owned some sort of relic, and an ambush came in the night. With her father slaughtered, the women were abused, maimed, and left to burn in the ransacked and torched house. Evelyn survived the fire by hiding in the fireplace, of all locations, waiting until the heat died away to wander out.
Her eyes had been pierced, her face scarred, and her legs and arms burnt, Evelyn crawled away from her destroyed home to seek help. A few years after the incident, she's comfortable enough in her own marred body to get around, often hiding away from view, using a hired servant to care for her needs. (I am flexible as to where the money comes from. An estate or a relative of her father's would be my best guesses.)

Motivation
Evelyn is on the mission to get over her fear of the world. Her father had educated her to be more than a recluse. On the ten year anniversary of her family's demise, Eve has decided to reestablish her family name.

Equipment
Breeches. Knee-high leather boots. Two tunics, one with long sleeves. Hooded poncho. Leather belt, and a leg satchel. A signet ring that belong to her family, which she wears hidden around her neck.
Dual bearded axes. While she can't see, Evelyn has managed to learn how to play defense, using axes to defend herself. Not well, however. (Imagine Blinkin' from Robin Hood, Men in Tights. A for effort, right?)
Attendant. A soft spoken adolescent male with a greater skill for weapons than herself, and no will to argue for himself.

Accepted, so long as you realize the significant disadvantage a blinded character would be at in combat, even being observant with weapons skills. Since not even a single IC post has happened yet, you can say you were already with the group or arrive slightly late, whichever you want. Do you plan on having an NPC servant with your character on the journey?

@DeltaV I hadn't decided on that, truthfully. I think having an NPC would help her a good deal. Should I add that in the CS?

And hm, i think she's got a good excuse if she shows up late.

I prefer collaborations whenever possible. But like I said, I'm not posting until tomorrow.

I'll probably do my intro post as a solo post, but I'll keep your offer in mind and send PMs your way for collaboration in the future.

I'm thinking the same thing. But I had two works today (day job and night job) so I won't get anything up till tomorrow evening either. It will be good to establish temperaments before I figure out who Rhys would be inclined to talk to. :)

Edit: @DeltaV I was also irrationally happy that we are starting near the Potomac. My character started just across the Chesapeake near Delaware :)

Alexis is about five feet tall. Not very tall but it comes in handy for other things. She has brown hair that is straightish and long. Its usually down or in a ponytail since she never bothers to do anything with it. She has a skinny build on her, yet has some muscle in her arm.


Personality

Alexis can be a mix of multiple thing. For starters she is such a tomboy, if you can say that know in days. She was more interested in more boyish activity's and was determined to figure something she set her mind to, no matter what the costs were. Her curiosity never ended either and was always interested in learning more about things, at least most things. She absolutely hated social studies and was never up to writing an essay. She likes hand on projects the most. There are bad sides to her as also there are good sides. She is a very caring and kind person to ever one she sees and meats. She is definitely an outgoing person and will have a conversation with anyone, at the same time she won't take shit from anyone either. She is very confident and doesn't care what others think of her.

History

Alexis, an only child, since when she was born her biological mom died while having her. She was never told this when she was young. Well she was never actually 'told' at all. For most of her life she lived with her farther,Daniel Dremel. There weren't any questions asked, due to the fact that there was a someone else she thought as if was her mom.
Daniel Drumel was a faithful husband and a great father, but his dwelling and mourning of his wife death didn't last long before he was out looking for another girl. He left baby Alexis with his friends every friday night so they would have there date nights.
It wasn't long before he found another love. The one who Alexis grown up with. Her name was Maria Mckenny. She was a very easygoing and calm women. She was with him ever since then. She wasn't very well at time management, or money management though, well neither of them were.
This only led to problems. There previous wealth kept them fine, but it wasn't going to last forever. Surprisingly there was enough to last them ten years before it ran out. They couldn't believe it. From there everything fell to pieces. They soon managed to lose there jobs for various stupid reasons.
They soon were strugglyping hard. Alexis didn't understand what was going on at the time. She knew she was taken out of school at this time. Even though this, she was still interested in learning.
Without school learning was impossible, until ofcorse she got into hunting, and making traps. She enjoyed it a lot and refered to it almost as it was a puzzle just yet to be solved. She used items she found around the town. She didn't look at it as steeling, she thought of it as taking what those don't want.
Quite a few years passed and Alexis understood the situation more and more. She didn't like it, infact she hated it. Though she knew nothing could be done about it.
At least she thought that till her dad heard the announcement for the scouting group. He was moved by the reward. Gold. He knew if he got that reward he would be able to get his family out of this mess. That there wouldn't be as much of a struggle for food and everything. His wife tried to talk him out of it but it was hopeless. He already had his mind made up.
A few months passed and there was nothing. Six months and there was still nothing. A year and still nothing. They were getting worried. The town announced that the group was dead. She couldn't believe it.
She knew that there was no possible way that her farther was dead. She refused to believe it, so she snuck into the place and looked at the files. She found nothing but stuff about her mom. She couldn't believe it. She luckily didn't get caught, and made it out. After finding out about her Mom she began to drift away from Marie.

Motivation

Her motives are gold so she would stop having to live in poverty, and also finding her farther.

  • Kleptomaniac - You are compelled to steal with some frequency, especially when such items as you take are entirely useless to you. -3
  • Observant - You are better at noticing traps, as well as your enemies' weaknesses. +1
  • Basic Weapons - You are skilled with the usage of less specialized weapons, such as knives, clubs and staffs. +1
  • Defender - You are excellent at using a shield. +1
  • Ranged Weapons - You are skilled in the operation of bows, crossbows, or perhaps even javelins or slings. +2
  • Reckless - You take unnecessary risks. -3
  • Light Sleeper - You wake easily at the first sign of danger. +1
  • Quiet - You make little noise, and are adept at sneaking around. +2

Hey, @always please in NO way think I am affiliated with the GM. I'm not. But I'm reading your CS as another player in the game, and I admit, I don't entirely understand it.

Can you do a once-over for grammar, like there versus their? meat vs meat? etc. I am happy to give some grammar tips if you are unsure of things.

Beyond that, though, I am having a really hard time following your story, and I have a feeling other people will as well. It seems like she is rich, then poor, then learns how to hunt, with not much explaining how she is acquiring those skills. I think a subplot about wanting answers about her father is cool (I used a similar motivation in my character's backstory as well), but there are other parts of the story that I think need to be tightened, like with her mother/marie.

Again, I'm not the GM, so please don't think my word is God. I just wanted to give you some feedback from a player perspective. :)

Alrighty, so there are some problems here, as @Pascal has so helpfully pointed out.

First, yes, there's the grammar. This is an advanced RP, and so I would hope that people applying have a firm grasp of things like their/there. A bigger issue, though, is the backstory. There are quite a few problems that I can see with it:
- It is never explained exactly how her family has gotten so rich. Both of her parents are said to have "jobs" that they can lose, implying that they're probably not hereditary nobility (which would be the only class to be really bringing in the money in our setting).
- "Taken out of school" makes it sound like there is a system of public schools or what-have-you like that which exists today, which is certainly not the case. The wealthy would have their children educated by private tutors, most likely, while everyone else only "needs" to know how to pull a plow.
- There would not have already been some sort of expedition that led to the deaths, or supposed deaths, of those involved. The group that the RP will be based around is the only real journey to have been organized and sent west in a long time.

Another problem that I see is with the traits. A lot of them don't mesh with the backstory. For instance, kleptomania is a compulsion to steal, not the process of taking discarded things from around town because you need them. I also can't find any justification for having the "defender" trait. All in all, there are a significant amount of things that are going to need to be fixed up before the application is acceptable.

So, considering my character can't see, I need other ways for her to know characters. Hearing is easy enough, I think. But smells? Like @HangYourSecrets Amos would probably smell like herbs and plants, at least. @Shorticus Cormac would smell of booze.

But I'm not sure of the others. If you'd be willing to give me odors, I'd appreciate that.
