Ugh, I freaking hate this argument that somehow has taken hold: "Well, the other cinematic Batmen have killed, so it's okay!" No, it's not. Just as it wasn't okay for those versions, either. That argument doesn't work in middle school, and it doesn't work here.

Also, was Frank Miller's Batman violent and sadistic? Without question. He's also the same Batman who uses rubber bullets in the Batmobile and has one scene where he breaks a gun in half saying, "This is the weapon of the enemy. We will not use it." So the argument that Snyderverse Batman blowing people away by association with TDKR falls flat, too.

More BvS spoilers, still.

Just because Superman was equally poorly characterised doesn't excuse the fact that Batman was too. If anything, it speaks to how badly Snyder and the writers misinterpreted what people like about Superman and Batman. I wasn't a huge fan of Man of Steel but it struck me as a "serious" (or "realistic) interpretation of Superman, not a particularly grim of dystopian one, whereas I feel like Snyder has flitted away from serious towards grim to excuse making a "Dark Knight Returns"-esque film. The problem being for me that it's not enough to simply say: "Hey! Batman are Superman are dicks now because... bad things happen!" You have to actually convince me that these bad things happening would make Bruce depart from the man he was. Does a poorly-written two minute conversation with Alfred and a shot of a Robin costume convince me Batman would suddenly start killing? No. If Jason and Barbara didn't send Bruce off the edge in the comics, you're going to have a Herculean task to convince me that anything would.

The thing is though I don't see Batfleck as a straight up murderer. He's not actively killing, in fact most of the deaths caused by him could be argued as manslaughter. The guy with the grenade dropped it while it was live. The guy with the flamethrower could have not pulled the trigger. The only one instance to me that sticks out as straight up murder was when Bruce crashed the Dodge Challenger and then dragged it around for five minutes but even then you could argue some poor sap is alive in there, albeit it in critical condition. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not happy Bruce is as brutal as he is, in fact I would have preferred a young Bruce where these accidents weighed in his conscious but alas Snyder didn't go that route.

On a separate note the most jarring error to me is the opening scene when Bruce is in Metropolis. He's driving a Jeep Renegade, a model only first released in 2015. It wouldn't have existed in 2013. So that was lazy product placement. If you were watching for it, almost every car was a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep or some kind.

Honestly I'd say Batfleck is one of the best Batman we've seen on the big screen. Still lacking in the department of World's Greatest Detective but otherwise it looked and felt like Batman.

Have to say though I don't really agree with some of the above spoilers or how much people are arguing that Batman does break the rules. Keaton and Bale both do the same over the course of their movies and nobody batted an eye.

Keaton and Bale maybe killed 5 or six guys each. Batfleck easily killed 30-40 guys with indiscriminate pleasure in this. Considering how willfully he kills, it makes no sense that Joker is still alive and kicking in this universe.

But even ignoring the characterization that turned Batman into the Punisher and continues to depict Superman as an insufferable dick, the movie seems to have been put together by someone who's never seen a film before, let alone made them. Editing was nonsensical, writing was sophomoric, and it was flat out DULL.

It's a terrible, terrible film.

Honestly I went in with the mind set I was watching a Fast and the Furious movie and I was not disappointed. It's a popcorn flick through and through starring characters who resemble Batman and Superman.

Maybe one day we'll get them right.

Fast & Furious movies are more well written, edited, and filmed than this. As goofy as they are, characters have clear motivations and character development.

For anyone that saw BvS and thought it was a dumpster fire, I'd suggest (if you haven't already) signing up for this game and/or throwing your energy into writing something better here. For anyone that thought BvS was great, I'd again suggest throwing all of your energy into trying to top it in New Frontier's pages.

Basically whatever it is you're doing, even if you haven't seen BvS, write the bombest shit anyone has ever read and help us get to 200 IC posts.
