I mean, it's ironic, the Dark knight Returns has such a mythical status because at the time it was a story that would never be told in a comic and continued Batman's story in a way that no one would have seen coming. But now we can't get away from it because people have such a problem with change.

@Blue Demon Sure, Bucky didn't want to be Captain America to begin with but he didn't want anybody else being Captain America (if not Steve) more. I feel like Brubaker was forced into cutting what he had in mind short because Marvel needed Steve back seeing as the film was coming out. Then they shuffled Barnes off into irrelevancy despite his being at the heart of the best Captain America story in... well, forever.

I'll have to take your word for it. I haven't read the Bucky-Cap run. I tend to read more old school issues (the only ones I can seem to get my hands on) Which is why my Steve isn't like the current Steve. I'm still back in the seventies/eighties. Lol.

@Blue Demon You should try to read that Brubaker run sometime. It's really good. I always thought Steve was a little cookie-cutter and had long since got bored of the endless WW2 flashbacks but Brubaker breathed new life into the character for me. Plus he made use of some really obscure, neglected Cap villains.

In terms of characters being rehashed. Sometimes it makes sense, and I feel that it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I like that in the Comics for instance that Spider-man is out of goddman School. I'll accept the hate but due to the fact I only buy volumes for anything not Star Wars (Money saving, I only got into comics a couple of years ago and a local comic book store isn't a thing where I am) the only Spider-man stuff I have read is Slotts work xD

I don't know though, there's breathing new life into things then rehashing. I.E. Changing who the Hulk is in ANAD. I don't even want to know how that happened, and I hope nobody ever tells me. Hulk is one of those characters (to me) who is who he is, and I feel should be inseperable from Banner. It's not a mantle like Thor or Captain America that can be passed around. It's more or less an affliction, rather than giving him legacies or passing it on I'd like to see Banner age or see alternate stories similar to Indestructible Hulk or Doc Green (I think they coulda got more out of Doc Green tbh).

They also maybe need to be a little more original with their new characters as well, again I'm speaking largely from a Marvel point of view as all I have read from DC is The Flash. Take Silk for example, she's new! But she's a Spider-man rehash.

But then you look at characters like the new Ms Marvel and there is no way you can call it a rehash.

Slott's work is... alright. His biggest problem is that he generates decent story hooks but rarely sticks the landing. Mostly, though, it's just gotten stale. He's been on Amazing long enough; it's time for a new voice and a new direction.

And I still wanna know why he seems to hate Mary Jane so much...

Mhm, I find them fun but I don't stick to the pages like I do when reading Hulk I'll be honest. Gotta love Waids work.

I haven't read Slott's Spider-Man but I was always really fond of his The Thing, She Hulk, and Silver Surfer runs. He has a really intuitive understanding of tone and (perhaps a niche concern here) works with continuity very well. His Avengers: Initiative with Gage was really good too.

Oh, and this Mighty Avengers run was perfect.

My favourite writers right now are Charles Soule and Jason Aaron, both at Marvel right now which kinda says it all! Oh, and Grant Morrison.

Jason Aaron had me absolutely hooked with God of Thunder, but the Jane Foster Thor run just got waaaaaaaay too preachy. Maybe it improved, but I only made it four or five issues.

I'm not a huge fan of Morrison.

Charles Soule is great and Jason Aaron's independent work is even better than his work for Marvel. Everyone check out Southern Bastards if you haven't already. I think the nearest to a "favourite" writer I have is Mark Waid. And the closest I have to a least favourite writer is definitely Bendis. I cannot stand him, the way he writes, or the fact Marvel force him onto every single big title.

For my current arc planned with Hulk and where the main villain is at...

I know he's specifically a Hulk legacy but nobody has plans for Speedfreak do they?

I'm still getting through Jason Aaron's UNKNOWN FEMALE CHARACTER Thor run, spoilers thanks (joke, I knew), but I absolutely loved his run on Wolverine and then Wolverine and the X-Men, my absolute favourite take on the character. He also did one of my favourite takes on the Hulk with Banner as the villain and everything from the Hulk's perspective. I'm giving his Doctor Strange a go now.

See. I'd ask what Hulk that is to purchase it, though I'm poor right now as my job is ending and I need to save up for my trip to America in the summer.

@Eddie Brock Bendis is okay when he doesn't have to worry about continuity or working within a shared universe so I understand people that enjoy his Ultimate Spider-Man. Plus his style kind of works for Spider-Man.

He just shouldn't be anywhere near the Avengers let alone be allowed to force them to fight ninjas for ten years.
