@TimeMasterX I mean, does it count as a spoiler if everyone says, "Hey, is the new Thor ___?" And Marvel goes, "Hah, no!" Then proceeds to drag it out as long as humanly possible before revealing that it was everyone's first guess all along?

EDIT: @Morden Man, fair. He is a bit of a one-trick pony, voice-wise. It just so happens that that voice works for Spidey, but he tries it with everyone. And he puts Kitty Pryde in everythingggggggggg.

I know the feeling mate, I think it was just called 'Hulk'? Give it a look, 2014 release I think :)

Problem being that old shit doesn't really exist on Amazon (2014, so old) and lack of money just makes me buy volumes.

Though right now I have Planet Hulk coming (I've seen the movie, read World War Hulk. Now for the main event) and X-Men Colossus - Gods Country coming.

There are definitely ways to read old volumes without breaking the bank account depending on your morals of course.

Searching for Justice League is cheating :P

Though I'll leave it to a vote.

Pffft. Cheating is relative.

I'm not a huge fan of Morrison.

Charles Soule is great and Jason Aaron's independent work is even better than his work for Marvel. Everyone check out Southern Bastards if you haven't already. I think the nearest to a "favourite" writer I have is Mark Waid. And the closest I have to a least favourite writer is definitely Bendis. I cannot stand him, the way he writes, or the fact Marvel force him onto every single big title.

Southern Bastards is amazing. That, Saga, and the Walking Dead are the only comics I read that aren't "mainstream."

@Sep You should get a subscription to Marvel Unlimited. It's about six months behind but for a small amount you're able to read as many comics as you want - even some you'd have trouble finding online.

I'm weird that when I read a comic I like to have an actual comic :P

point me in the right direction oh master

Lex Luthor everybody. Copying Tony Starks Suit, building a techno-skyscraper like the Fantastic Four/Tony Stark, being Lawfully Evil like Doctor Doom.

Is there any originality? Luthor is obviously just one big copycat.

Tried subscribing to Marvel wouldn't accept Scottyland for some reason.

@Sep The Planet Hulk movie isn't a patch on the comic. You'll think it is and then the comic will just suck you in and throw you out on the other side. Great run for Hulk.

@Eddie Brock Meh, I didn't mind the reveal. I was just enjoying the story as it unfolded.

@Morden Man I didn't really mind Bendis on Avengers, Disassembled to Siege was my prime era as a reader of that range and he brought a consistency to the Avengers that just wasn't there before and hasn't been there since. I don't think he should have necessarily gone on to do the other books, especially the X-Men one but I think he's

@TimeMasterX It just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess. It'd be like if your buddy picked you up to take you "somewhere" on your birthday, and you asked him, "Are we going to a surprise party?" and he said, "What? No! You're crazy, man." Then he proceeded to drive around aimlessly, pretending to go on various errands, before finally taking you to the surprise party and going, "Gotcha!" They just overplayed their hand with the whole, "Oh no! My identity's about to be reveale-- oh look, deus ex machina."

But like I said, the identity mystery wasn't what turned me off. It was incidents like the Absorbing Man fight where they focused more on "Yay, girl power! Down with misogyny!" than telling a good story.

@Sep That's strange. I had a Marvel Unlimited subscription earlier in the year and I'm in England so you definitely can get Marvel Unlimited in the United Kingdom.

@TimeMasterX If you have the chance, go back and read Kurt Busiek's run on the Avengers. The Avengers then were still the Avengers and had a distinct set of ideals and values. There was a reason Spider-Man or Wolverine weren't on the team. Bendis literally stripped everything distinctive away from the Avengers. They were the premier Marvel team during his run only because they had the most popular heroes on the team. And why was that? For sales. Everyone spoke in the same voice, he completely disregarded characterisation of both heroes and villains, and he ran roughshod over the work other people did in other portions of the Marvel universe.

It boils down to personal preference in the end but if you go back and read something like Avengers Forever and then read BMB's Avengers I don't think there's any comparison at all.

Says the Marvel fan. Didn't they copy, well almost everything from DC to make their characters? Lex had tall building before Tony and the Fantastic Four even existed!

Spider-Man shouldn't be an Avenger. He just shouldn't. He should bungle the interview or run late Day 1 and get the boot or just turn them down for some prideful reason, but he should never actually make the team. As soon as you put the resources of Stark and the Avengers at his back, Spider-Man loses his underdog status, and that's a tragedy.

Quiet you! I am talking in this Universe. Don't change the subject.

I agree with this, the best I've seen of Spidey in comics and in TV is when he does make the cut but then turns around and goes all like "No. I can't do this for -prideful reason-"

@Eddie Brock I get where you're coming from but I think it was unrealistic to expect it never to come up in the narrative. It's like in doctor Who, if/when the doctor regenerates into a woman...gender is gonna get brought up. I dunno, it never became noticeable enough to me to actually distract me from the story I was reading.

@Morden Man I'll have to give it a look sometime. I do disagree that BMB gave everyone the same voice though, I think his characterisation was a bit subtler given that a lot of the team came from street-level Marvel at the start but I never had a problem figuring out who was who. I can't speak for the riding over other people's work as I can't say for definite what was him and what was editorially mandated either way.

A good bit of detail, but it still leaves the crime scene examiner with not much more than "kid" without any further identifying detail as to gender.

The Heelys were chosen to illustrate that he's 9-10 years old though.

True, although apparently Batman and Moon Knight can do predictions of gender based off of a combination of the weight distribution, height and potential age that you'd get off the Heely marks, the sword execution and the two gunshots.

Not meaning to be annoying sorry and I REALLY enjoy what you've done, just a bit out of it since I got hospitalized again and kind of enjoying the analysis. As for my opinion on the sidekick stuff I agree that a lot of it has to do with changing demographics, but that done right it might be okay.

I mean, personally my decision to have Moon Knight's ill-fated sidekick show up in my stuff was done out of a desire to redeem a really crappy character who got short-shrifted because writers had no idea what to do with him, made him annoying as hell, then killed him twice in quick succession never to be spoken of again while assuming it was great writing full of depth and pathos.

That moment when in chapel at your Christian school the teacher talks about justice and absolutely nails Superman's essence while simultaneously getting Batman and Iron Man's so completely and utterly wrong.

Gah.
