Perhaps after a cure is found, they can set up more walls/fences around Eon Town to keep out the zombies and rebuild society there. (Zombies aren't coming back- It'll just be a vaccine probably)

As for the ditto thing, maybe eevee instead? I can see their genetic makeup causing mutations in the virus.

Rock type pokemon probably have an inner life form, so if the diddly dam poison can get to it, than they can poison it.

Too weak, the move was designed before they came out so it was only optimized against rock-types and such, wasn't prepared for the level of PURE MANLINESS STEEL TYPES HAVE!
