You know, since Maximus is a rich boy, I figured that he could be the go to guy when they needed some financial support for the meantime. Something like a debt to him, just with no interest making it way better than loaning from banks and stuff right?
Personality: Alexei's polite, friendly, and open. He's always trying to make a good impression on new people, and make up for his shortcomings in American social culture and language. He's hard to anger, but once he is angry, those who made him upset will greatly regret it. History: Born in western Russia, Alexei lived there until he was 6, when he and his parents migrated to first New York, then Chicago for better economic opportunities. He was quickly taught basic English, first by his parents, then later by his teachers as he progressed through school. He still continued to speak mainly Russian, however, so his English is still thickly accented. Despite this, he quickly discovered his talent with programming languages and computer coding, getting a couple tech certifications and a job working IT for a local company. Other: N/A
Name: Matt Age: 25 Gender: Male Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian Sexuality: Bi-Sexual
Appearance:
Personality: Matt is a bit of a nerd. He loves all things Super Heros, Star Wars, and even Pro Wrestling. He's a big video game player. He's good at a lot of things, but not necessarily great at anything. He is as outgoing as they come. He doesn't know what embarrassment means. His heart is always on his sleeve which leads him to act first, and think about it later. It's this flaw that usually gets him in the most trouble. He's very emotional, very trusting, and always honest.
History: Matt grew up in South Bend, Indiana, just about 90 minutes from Chicago. Life was fairly simple. His hometown wasn't too big, but it wasn't small. His parents were very supportive. There was enough to do. He had friends, not a lot but a few close ones. He never really knew what it was like to struggle. His biggest issues were high school girlfriends. When the time came to go to college he knew he had to get out. He had to go somewhere bigger, somewhere with limitless possibilities. College kept him busy, but now he's ready to see what the city is really all about. He's ready to take on the challenge of life in the Windy City, but first he has to find a job.
Appearance: (Face claim - Jasmine Sanders) Anastasia, having a mixed background, suffers from an unruly mass of golden locks which she often attempts to pacify with a straightener - to no avail. Her eyes are a frosty blue, inherited from her mother and her skin tone is a light brown which can darken in the summer. She stands at a tall 5'7 and weighs 121pounds, blaming her hectic lifestyle for her lack of a healthy eating schedule.
Personality: Anastasia 'Stas', is very boisterous and unreserved. She prefers to be the instigator of a friendship, due to her affectionate nature towards strangers. Despite her friendly demeanor, she is somewhat selfish and doesn't take well to receiving critisicm, prefering to divert her attention elsewhere; even when hearing a harsh truth. Although her confidence is noticeable, it serves as a facade at times, as her tendency to overthink a situation can leave her anxious and withdrawn. Anastasia thrives in chaos, and a conflict is where she is guaranteed to be. Her role could be the mediator of an argument, however she is not afraid to use her sharp words if she believes it to be needed.
History: Her childhood began with nothing all too scandalous or dramatic. Instead, she took residence with her altruistic mother in Germany, living a humble life. Once she turned eight, letters had become arriving in the post for her routinely. They would arrive on each holiday, with blessings, greetings, and a few dollar bills as a token souvenir. Each of these letters was signed by a Mr. Carver who lived in America and already seemed to know Anastasia like the back of his hand. He would send her a silver easter egg for the holidays, without knowing her favourite colour was the same. At Christmas, a set of dainty russian nesting dolls would find themselves in her post-box; something she had been hankering after all year. When she turned the age of ten, her mother had grown sick, something Anastasia had been aware of for quite sometime, but had no idea of the true severity. Three months into her eleventh birthday, her mother passed. Devastating yes, but her mother seemed to have been drifting in and out of consciousness in a haze of sedatives. It had felt like her mother had left her quite some time ago and the death certificate was only a formality. She returned to her home she had once shared with her mother, pondering over her future as an eleven year old girl who had no means to provide for herself. As she turned the corner, a grand black vehicle was parked outside her home, with a man the colour of melting chocolate standing imposingly infront of it. He caught her eye and his mouth upturned into a smile that was familiar - a smile she had seen when she glanced into the mirror herself. She had always wondered why her skin tone was slightly darker than her mothers, and why her mothers hair lay pin straight whereas hers would curl like stubborn vines around her face.
It was a whirlwind from there. Her life began in America, her voice adapted to the mannerisms of those around her and high school flittered by in a haze of sleep-overs, boyfriends and the all too familiar cramming for exams. Her past in Germany seemed distant now, as if it was lived by someone else. The only reminder that stayed with her was her tendency to swear in German when angry; something her father had reprimanded her for several times over. After high school came the steep decline in her relationship with her father. He was dead-set on her continuing an academic future by furthering it at college, however Anastasia had no desire for it. She moved out of her home and contacted a few companions she knew who had connections in the world of fashion and modelling. It was nothing like she expected. At times, she would be rushed with jobs and the sudden influx of money would have hope igniting for her future in the constantly evolving industry. At other times, her phone would remain lifeless, not a single call received as she gathered her remaining notes and struggled to pay the rent for her new apartment.
Thats where she is now. Clinging onto her dream, whilst struggling to stay afloat.
Once kkbird and Fabricant get their CS's in , I'll probably go ahead and close sign ups. Until then, places will still be open for people who still want to send something in, but once they get theirs in I won't be accepting any new ones. From there we'll be shifting to working on relations sheets and kicking around ideas for plotlines and/or little episodic plotlines that gives most if not all of the characters something to do. AKA, we'll start taking some steps to kicking up the IC!
@Polaris North That sounds like a really good idea, imho! Especially since a lot of people in the group are really just starting up their careers, it'd make a lot of sense that Maximus would make sure they'd be on their feet until they could pay back the money.
@Lord Coake A little short, but it looks like you'll be going into more detail with him IC. Accepted! You may move him to the character tab!
@Shadowpenguin07 Matt is accepted! You may move him to the character tab!
@princesstee For your first time roleplaying on this site, you did a fine job with your character sheet! Anastasia has been accepted and you may move her to the character tab!
I think once the last two CS's are turned in, ten is more than enough to handle this. Any more than that and I believe it'll feel way too crowded. Because of this, except for the last two CS's which are now officially reserved for kkbird and Fabricant, we won't be accepting any more CS's.
If it's alright, I've changed my character's Faceclaim to Holland Roden, she just seemed for fitting to me. Just tell me if you want me to change it back, though.
So I'm just getting the next ball rolling and throwing around ideas. I know there's 2 more coming.... Ya'll know your characters, and these are just opening thoughts. I'm open to anything!
Spence - So I feel like Matt knows Spence from a hospital visit. He did something crazy, and they bonded over a T-shirt Matt had on or something similar. Matt thought Spence was attractive, and based on Spence's conversation about his yorkie thought maybe he was gay too, or at least bi.... they went out and became instant friends.
Max- Like most people, Matt sought after Max needing money. They met in a comic book store, or something similar as Max was checking out Anime, and Matt was more interested in foam swords or something to that sort. They got talking, eventually Max gave him a loan, the rest is history.
Rafe- I think Rafe and Matt hit it off at a pub. Maybe their relationship even started with a drunk fight, and wound up with a deep friendship.
Johanna- I think they have kind of a love hate relationship. They pick on each other, but only they are allowed to pick on each other. My thought is Warren knew Matt. Maybe an old boss. When things went badly, Matt took Johanna's side.
Stas - On the wrong end of a bad bet perhaps. A bit cliche, but Matt made a bet with his friends that he could get with a model. Despite his best moves, it didn't work, but a friendship came out of it after all.
Avery - I struggle with this one. I love the character. I think it's one of those relationships where on the surface they seem like complete opposites, but as they get to know each other they realize that the other isn't that bad.... Maybe they just know each other through everyone else? Totally open to you!
Alexei - I'm open to ideas. Not sure where he fits in this craziness, but I'm excited to have him on board!
Agreed completely. I can see Johanna calling him a nerd all the time but in the most loving way. You know? But I can see that because of their emotional behaviors that every once in awhile the teasing hits the wrong spot during the wrong day and they blow up at one another. But they get back to being friends in no time. Definitely could see the Warren situation being true as well, Johanna could see Matt as a safe zone to talk about those things too.

Marcie stands at just around 5'6" and has what she affectionately refers to as 'the right kind of curves'. Her hair always seems to be just a bit frazzled unless she puts forth the effort into styling it, favoring a bun to the side or to the back of her head. Marcie's sense of style is a bit on the outdated side, preferring to shop at cheaper establishments rather than fork over the extra cash for an outfit not designed with her in mind. The exception to that outfit rule is in her hats, she has a wide assortment of them being something of a collector of the accessory and while she won't spend large figures on shirts or pants or dresses, she has, on more than one instance, dipped into the bank account to purchase a hat that she has no intention of actually wearing.
Personality: Marcie is, in a word, outspoken. That often gets misinterpreted as being 'loud' but that is absolutely the wrong way to look at it. Marcie is someone who often gets lost in her own opinions, be they her thoughts on others or on her surroundings, she's not one that puts a filter on things just because she's out in public. Marcie is the type of person who would openly comment on someone in, say, a coffee shop and not realize she was speaking in a voice just loud enough for the target of her comments to hear. In most cases she doesn't mean to come off as rude, but so many people take it as such. Fortunately, she's good at navigating around those awkward conversations being something of a quick thinker and a student of improvisational comedy thanks to some classes at The Second City.
Marcie understands that her vocal nature often puts people off of her (hell, it's why she reasons she can never land a second date with anyone) but she feels that changing herself would just be admitting defeat and that anyone who can't handle someone like her is not someone she cares to associate with. Though she has had remarks towards her friends, she does appreciate their friendship and in many ways values their approval over anything else, often going out of her way to make amends if she ever offended or hurt them.
History: Marcelina was the only daughter of a Polish butcher owner mother and a Spanish language teacher father, both of whom felt a connection at their first chance meeting at the Taste of Chicago. She was there to give out samples of her product and he was just there to enjoy the variety of foods offered from the cities best restaurants. Marcie was born and raised in Chicago, near enough to the heart of downtown to consider herself a city girl and familiar with the streets. Marcie gravitated towards her mother as a child, always wanting to help out at the shop but being told no due to the fact that butcher's knives tend to be incredibly sharp and Marcie...well, she was a bit of a klutz as a child.
Marcie felt like she was lucky, her home life was never met with any difficulty, her parents are still together to this day, and though she was an only child, neither of her parents believed in spoiling her. They were parents first and friends second and when Marcie reached the ripe period of life known as 'teenager', suddenly she had to work to get the things she wanted, household chores for tickets to a movie, helping out at the shop for shopping cash, and eventually getting a part time job to earn her own money for a change.
Marcelina's dream was to become an actress and when she went to college she went in as a drama major. Marcie never got the leading role in any of the university productions, and often found that she would be cast in a very minor role with maybe one scene, much to her incredible dismay. She was told that it was her acting but in Marcie's mind it was just because she wasn't as 'attractive' as the leading actress and she would see it no other way.
After graduating finding employment was rather...difficult. She sought out acting jobs, in theater or in open casting calls for the many films that shot in Chicago, but the most she ever got was a simple "we'll call you". With no other options, Marcie took over the family business despite having no business experience. What she did have was experience cutting and packaging meats and she figured that would be good enough and so far...well they're not out of business so that's a positive. But she's not given up on her dream and takes classes with The Second City in hopes that her big break is on the horizon.
Fortunately she has a strong support network of friends who totally believe in her ability to act...surely.
Other: Sometimes she thinks she might actually be a vegetarian, which makes her job as a butcher more than a little strange.
I love this!! This is totally how they could have met. I didn't really add any of Spencer's likes or interests and so they could have totally bonded over video games or maybe Matt was wearing a Captain America shirt and Spence was like yoooo. lol. I imagine Spencer would be into those sort of things; he seems like the type. So, yeah, I approve of this!
@Shadowpenguin07 Glad to see someone taking the first step to break the ice here! c:
I'm game for that to be how Matt and Rafe became buds, tbh! It sounds like it just really really fits!
@Soldierman66 I'm sorry, but other than the two reserved places, which both have them have posted their CS's, there aren't anymore spots open. :/
@Fabricant451 Marcie is accepted! You may move her to the character tab!
~
Since we have all the CS's now, I think this is where we should follow shadowpenguin and start deciding and discussing what everyone's links to each other are. So, at your leisure, let's get this ball rolling!
I totally missed the "Sharing apartments in groups of two" part... Geesh now I have to pick a roommate! I agree, I think Max should live with a female. The possible interactions I'm imagining are awesome!
