This is looking awesome so far! I don't know if I'll have a character up tonight, since my best friend is sleeping over this weekend :D

On the other hand I think I'm gonna need some help picking a picture.

@ViolentViolet

With how similar they all are, I'd say it depends on how you want to play her. Is she deadly with a blade? Her words? Or is it her looks that can kill?

@ViolentViolet Well keep in mind that she's not going to have any magic at first at all probably, and that any sort of fighting skills she has would have to be from sparring against a practice dummy or something. I'm of the opinion that we're all meant to start out relatively inexperienced, so I'm going to have to go with the "charm type", but maybe having clothes made of leaves is a bit too much.

Also consider this from the Inheriwiki:

@BurningCold Glad you pointed this out, I was just about to go look it up myself. Couldn't recall them being mentioned ever, so I figured I'd brush up on what they are in canon.

@ViolentViolet Keep in mind the Empire and the Elves are not in a good place, if she looks too elfy someone might report her and get her caught or killed. Then it's away to be bound by loyalty oaths to Galby and join his spell casters or become a spy among the elves. You could have her look more human for now, naturally assuming the traits of those she lives with, and then highlighting the elfy parts once she's with the elves and their elfy costumes and elfy ideologies.

I like how you guys think. Perhaps I will have her as a young won, aged just as much as the others, and look more human than elf. I would like to use the first image as a reference, since I hope to have her look more like her elven brethren later in the game. Human riders often take of elvish aspects right? So it would be kind of like that, mingling and enhancing her own elvish blood right?

I was also thinking that her father, as a human, had been the one to raise her. A war veteran, who settled down as a scholar who often told stories and taught the human children of the village. He would work as a livestock farmer and butcher mostly, trading his meat for vegetables. His daughter would know how to ride, and what to feed, but he would have shown her little other than the basics of swordplay. Thus she may be slightly ahead of the others, but still, as said, with little practice against shadows and dummies.

How does something like that sound to you guys?

@ViolentViolet You seem like an excellent person able to take constructive criticism, a trait that many lack. I have no qualms with your ideas. :)

@ViolentViolet I like it! And having a village educator telling stories to the kids about the outside world fills in a lot of holes. Lots of small towns and villages will have questionable knowledge of the outside world, flawed with stories of elves stealing children, dwarven cannibals, and urgals growing to the size of mountains, none of these things have any evidence supporting it, and yet people don't have any evidence against it and it's exactly the kind of thing small uneducated isolated villagers would believe. Having well traveled people, and ones willing to tell stories of the world to children, essentially bypasses these flaws.

I don't suppose the hunting party could find, say, an orange and black dragon egg overgrown by moss and stuff? O:-)

@Forsythe That would be a bit silly, but if you really want?

I had more of an idea of turning up at the cache and hatching the eggs for those present all at once. I wasn't going to take very long, somethings a bit odd about Galen, his feelings aren't just feelings, so he's going to beeline straight for the hut.

Though maybe if you can't wait we can say Terryn, the man who found and was trying to smuggle out the eggs, was carrying one on him in case he had to run for it, but then he was caught and tried to send it away a la Arya, but it didn't make it very far?

My only problem is that once a group of boys discover a dragon egg of all things, they won't want to continue exploring and stumble across the cache. That said, I could use Gale's "feelings" to keep them going.

@Ceta de Cloyes How is the dragon thing working? Are we making dragons for each other or ourselves and should we get on that?

@Forsythe Sorry, it won't be much longer! Promise!

@BurningCold If people want to make dragons for each other that is fine, and maybe encouraged because then we can send a dragon and rider on a solo mission and the player wont be alone. If you want to do the dragon exchange thing, definitely discuss that now, and remember the personalities of the dragon should be able to at least appreciate their rider's personality, the dragon is choosing the rider after all, this isn't some weird mating ritual where the couple hate each other and inevitably fall in love, they need to have complimentary personalities from the go. Should probably start posting your dragon character sheets about now as well.

I think I'll wait until the elves are playable before joining. The elves were pretty interesting, even though they were clearly ripped off from inspired by Tolkien Just like the rest of the series and setting. I liked how rampantly powerful and fae-like they were; capricious, vane, powerful, lazy and very concerned with ceremony and tradition.

To be fair, the Dwarves were pretty baller too. Knuckle duster studs will forever be the best part of the setting.

@Roosan You could perhaps make a human character and then a second character later down the line.

@Roosan BC's suggestion is a good one, the journey to the elves might take a while. You can even kill the character off if you don't want to play them when the elves become an option. Their loss is sure to spur some interesting emotions.

Or I can just pm you once we reach Du Weldenvarden. Your choice. :P

@BurningCold I'm going to make a dragon character, and then I'll post it. Everyone else who wants to play a dragon should as well, then we can match them up.

@Forsythe Have you already chosen a rider for your dragon and did the player say yes? Since you don't have a non-dragon character not everyone who's playing a rider needs to make a dragon too, because then that's one dragon more than there are riders, unless people begin making riders.

I have an idea in the works for the Empire that will allow their power to scale as needed to account for more riders, so currently there isn't a limit in place.

I should also probably mention that most options will start opening up as we progress; humans with more varied backgrounds, elves, dwarves, urgals(I guess?). The limits of that world are still in place though, only human-blooded or elven-blooded beings can become dragon riders. (Note the emphasis there: beings with the blood of those accepted to be riders, so half-dwarves/half-humans could be riders. Technically that's theoretical, but... :P)
