Cahreli had wanted to test the WRM40L Warp Drives that she'd just installed onto The Colossus before the mission started, but she was barely able to turn it on before everyone else had arrived. That would mean she'd have to test them out later; for now, it was time to begin.
Ray, who by now had recovered from Dr. Osbourne's hostile takeover, had taken Jenny, Cahreli and the cat-like Felix with her. Felix had decided to take point and scout out ahead, which was fine by Cahreli herself. The Colossus was more of a sniping mech; it wasn't designed to be all that effective on the front lines. She did mind being stuck with Jenny, though, and would have to be careful not to allow that dreaded tail of hers to trip the Colossus over. It would cost valuable time for it to recover from that, in which case it'd be vulnerable to enemy attack. Suddenly, Cahreli could feel a foul moistening in her armpits, and small drops of sweat emitting from her forehead.
"Shit; Osbourne wasn't kidding when he said it'd be hot and humid!" Cahreli hated the heat; one could tell by the tone in her voice. But at least she had the perfect countermeasure for it... namely, turning the Colossus' air conditioning system on full blast. Within seconds, a cold gas was propelled directly inside the Colossus' core. Not so much that Cahreli would freeze to death or catch hypothermia from it, but just enough to counteract the hot air that was already trapped inside. More of this same gas could be seen being propelled outside the Colossus as well, in order to stop the humidity from seeping into the gaps in its armor, and keep it outside where it belonged.
Now that that was done, Cahreli raised the Colossus' lens up higher than it normally rested at, allowing her to see over the canopy of the forest that lay before everyone as well as within the trees themselves. The last thing she did was warm up all five of the Electromagnetic Rail Lances, figuring it was better to do so before the enemies were engaged as opposed to during the engagement. She wondered something else, too.
"Ya think there'd be anyone to sue us if we took down these trees?" she turned to Ray as she asked this question.
So... this is the second time I've tried to host an RP within the guild. The first RP I tried to host was a little ambitious for me to try an run, considering that I hadn't hosted anything in such a long time. By comparison, this one should be much easier for me to manage, given the rust I still have :/
For those of you who don't know of it, Kakegurui is an anime that revolves around Hyakkao Private Academy, a prestigious high school known for the sheer wealth of each of its students, and which also doubles as a casino from an effective standpoint during lunch-time and after school hours. Unlike in the case most educational institutes, it doesn't tend to matter if one is athletically or academically capable; the main concern that the typical Hyakkao Private Academy will have is how competent he or she is as a gambler. If a student doesn't make the cut in that regard, they become what is known as a "House Pet", where they are treated as slaves and subject to humiliation and ridicule by their fellow classmates. House Pets are also advised not to participate in any further gambling, but they do have the option of initiating an Official Match against any student in particular, albeit only once. House Pets will typically stay as House Pets until they can successfully pay off the debt that had got them in that position in the first place.
As for how I intend to run this RP, it will probably play out similarly to your typical high school RP, with survival elements and possible PvP elements thrown into the mix. A more extensive plot and background setting will be provided in the OOC Thread once I get it up, and I'll start writing one once I get a decent show of hands.
...
So yeah, who'd be interested in this sort of RP?

While his team's Linker was replacing the battery of the station they'd reached, Raphel Hagos Mekuria took the liberty of noting everything he'd observed from the Invaders that they'd detected along the way. There was a lot of data that he'd compiled, and research into all the data could prove extensive; if not for the higher ups, then to Raphel himself. He was always curious about these creatures that appeared out of the blue during the Second Genesis, and the more information he could garner for himself, the more faith he'd have going into future missions.
Still, Raphel figured he'd best send a copy of the file he made to Lt. Mako Isoshima, the commander for this operation, after the mission was over. While it was possible that she and the other higher ups would find nothing that they didn't already know, Raphel would hate to consider the probability in which he'd otherwise be withholding vital information. He returned the PDA that he stored his wealth of data on back into his pocket, and looked over to see how his team's Linker was doing. It looked like the necessary maintenance wasn't complete just yet.
"I'm going back on lookout duty," he told the Linker, "Come find me when you're done."
With that, he separated himself from the Linker, albeit making sure he didn't go to far. He climbed a nearby tree and concealed himself within its leaves, before looking down the scope of his marksman rifle, The Voice of Reason.
Raphel was confident that the Invaders wouldn't spot the Linker and try to attack, but it was better to be safe...
"You and Jenny are part of the same class! That means they'll be plenty of opportunities for you guys to be friends now. Isn't that great?"
Well, the slimy assistant might have been jumping for joy, but Cahreli was not amused in the slightest. She even had the facial expression of disapproval down. The only good thing about that whole exchange was that she could finally put a few names to a few faces. Not that it served her any good. Cahreli would still rather go by the pet names that she'd come up with on the spot, anyway.
"Hey, I'm all for risking my life as much as the next gal, but I was kind of under the impression that I'd only have to do it out there," the admittedly less-than-mature Arachne was quick to voice her dismay, "Not in here, or more specifically..."
She was about to refer to Jenny as "Miss Badly Oversized Klutz", but before she could say much more than she had, the assistant's body had seemingly went all screwy on her and melted, before reforming itself with a few very slight changes. The assistant had then introduced herself as Dr. Rei Osborne, all the while speaking in a German accent of all things. Cahreli could only scratch her head in response to all this.
In any case, she unveiled a mission for everyone, before handing the debriefing over to another assistant who went by the name of Roxanne. Roxanne had also mentioned that everyone should meet at the hangar by 1200 hrs should they want to take part in the mission. It was at this point that Cahreli had a sudden epiphany, slamming an open palm against her face for having completely forgotten about it earlier.
"Awe, that's right; I was supposed to test those parts I just installed last night," she mentioned through gritted teeth.
Whether she even had the time any longer would be another story...
"To underestimate me would be among your gravest mistakes... not to mention your last."
Personal Information
Name:
Raphel Hagos Mekuria
Age:
16
Gender:
Male
Nationality:
Ethiopian
Appearance:
Raphel stands at 183cm (6' 0"), and weighs in at a solid 71kg (156lbs). His dark skin, white clothing and blue-rimmed glasses allow him to stand out among his peers, although not to an extravagant degree. He likes to maintain the look of a professional, after all. While his eyesight is mostly adequate without his glasses, anything at an extremely close range proves to be difficult for Raphel to make out due to blurriness, and he'd have to squint in order to read fine print, which can strain his eyes. Raphel always keeps a cloth in a pocket that is on the inside of his shirt, so that he can clean his glasses whenever he might need to.
Biography:
Born in Ethiopia. Raised (primarily) in Oxford. Raphel Hagos Mekuria is a well-established, highly educated young man who was taken in by a noble young couple. He doesn't remember much about his original birth parents and, seeing as neither had the chance to truly involve themselves in his life before their untimely demise, he can only speculate what kind of people they might have been at best. However, he holds a deep gratitude for the couple who'd raised him as their own child, as he wouldn't have got this far without them.
Raphel is a multilingual, meaning he can speak a myriad of languages with little to no effort, albeit with varying levels of competence. He prefers to speak French and Italian since he likes the sound of them the most, but he finds himself speaking in Japanese most of the time, which is unsurprising given the area in which he lives. Raphel seems to have a natural talent for getting around any language barrier that may or may not be present. He'd be more concerned about ensuring people comprehend the points that he tries to make.
In battle, Raphel will typically take the initial few moments to study his enemies. He does not like to go in "guns blazing", so to speak, especially without knowing there's a weakness that he can even try to exploit. He may even treat the whole battlefield like one big game of chess, where the least thought out move could very well be the last that one gets to make before seeing their defeat. That said, Raphel holds a great deal of confidence in his strategies, and will always think several steps ahead before making his move. The lives of his teammates, as well as his own and all that he cares about, may ultimately come down to whether he can see his endgame through.
Combat Information
Class:
Gunner
Armament:
The Voice of Reason: A powerful marksman rifle that has two modes to it: Assault Mode, and Sniper Mode. It automatically shifts between these two modes depending on what exactly the user is shooting at and how close or far away it is. It doesn't have a scope, or even iron sights in the conventional sense, but when its user puts his or her finger on the trigger, it projects a holographic display near the bottom half of the eye, which shows exactly where the weapon is being aimed.
In Sniper Mode, The Voice of Reason will fire a highly intense laser that can inflict severe damage; potentially enough to fell even the sturdiest of enemies if aimed at exactly the right spot. The user can control how much the holographic display zooms in and out by expending a small amount of their psychic energy. This is particularly useful for picking off enemies that are retreating, or dealing with those whose weak spots are tricky to line up for. If a shot has been fired in Sniper Mode, it will take at least 10 seconds before The Voice of Reason will be ready to use again, as it will need that much time to charge back up.
In Assault Mode, The Voice of Reason can fire radioactive pulses of red light in a volley. These pulses don't inflict as much damage at a time, but it makes up for it with a good rate of fire, and there is no noticeable charge-up delay between shots. As such, this mode is more practical than the Sniper Mode when battling enemies at mid- to close-range. The Assault Mode is also ideal for scouting out the potential weaknesses of unfamiliar enemies, whereas the Sniper Mode is more for dealing a big, decisive blow.
Psychic Drive:
Psionic Lockdown: Raphel's Psychic Drive allows him to overwhelm a single enemy with psychic energy, preventing it from moving a muscle and effectively paralyzing it on the spot. It has a maximum range of 100 meters, and requires much of Raphel's concentration in order to keep the stricken enemy still. The stronger the enemy is from a physical standpoint, the harder of a time he'll have containing it. It should be noted that, while Raphel can still move while using his Psychic Drive against an enemy, any movement that he does make will weaken his hold on the stricken, and it can break in its entirety if he tries to move too fast.
Raphel will primarily use his Psychic Drive in order to grant himself a clean shot at the chosen enemy's weak point. However, there are also a number of selfless applications for the Psychic Drive in question; for example, he can use it in a pinch to save the life of an injured ally, as well as enable a friendly Striker to close in on the stricken enemy without fear of retaliation, or ease the burden of his team should a duo of enemies prove too difficult to handle together. He could even potentially slow down an entire wave of enemies by using his Psychic Drive against an enemy that is in the path of a choke point. However, Raphel's Psychic Drive will take its toll if it's applied one too many times in battle, usually n the form of a splitting headache. As such, he'll have to pick the moments that he uses it very carefully.
As he waited for the arrival of the plane that would take him into Japan, Raphel Hagos Mekuria looked out the window into the night sky, watching the many other planes take off and land. It was difficult to stay awake during such a late hour, but there was a sense of tranquility about so few things happening around that Raphel found peaceful. No doubt it wouldn't last long, as his childhood friend, Eira Anderson, came over with two cups of coffee and took one of the seats that was right next to him.
"Here ya go," Eira extended one hand as she said this, giving one of the cups to Raphel, "Hopefully this'll keep us awake,"
"Well, it wouldn't sell if it didn't," Raphel stated as a matter of fact, as he took a sip of the coffee that was given to him. Black, just the way he liked it. As he continued his occasional sips of his coffee, his thoughts began to trail off into the far yonder.
"I wonder what life would've been like... before 'they' invaded, that is," he mused aloud.
"'They'? You mean those things that attacked us during the Second Genesis?" Eira asked.
"Precisely," Raphel turned to answer Eira, before returning to a thinking pose that he had prior, "There's still much that we don't know about them. What they want. How far they're willing to go. And more importantly, why they chose Earth over all everywhere else in the entire galaxy. Could they have found this planet purely by chance, of all things?"
Unsurprisingly, the next few minutes were quite. It was evident that Eira had no idea how to answer Raphel's question at the end there, as it was one but many of the thought-provoking ones that would prove difficult to answer correctly. The silence in the area was broken only by a PA system that had just sprang to life.
"All passengers flying from Oxford to Neo Kyoto on Flight D353, please begin boarding. I repeat, all passengers on Flight D353 from Oxford to Neo Kyoto may begin boarding."
With that, Raphel rose from his seat, and placed his empty coffee cup in the trash. He said his goodbye and got himself in the queue to board his flight, while Eira watched on with a tear in her eye and a smile on her face. Raphel enjoyed his time living in Oxford, but his journey was just beginning...
Not a specific one, no. It all depends on how strong the entrapped enemy is and/or how much psychic energy Raphel has left to spare. I did consider the possibility that boss enemies would only get slowed down as opposed to outright stopped, and not even for long either.
As for the nationality, I can swap it over to Ethiopian if you guys really want me to. I just didn't think it'd be a big deal if I left it.
