Kyran and Risa

Location: River Kingdom
Time:Evening

Risa yawned as she laid on Kyran’s chest. She gently ran her hand over his arm as she let her mind wander. She hoped to get to the port by tomorrow evening at the latest and get a meeting area sorted. All she had to do was go collect Artemis with Kyran then hopefully they could all go together in the morning. She couldn’t wait to see Elsea again finally.

It felt like her mind was desperately trying to run away from the negative events of the night, but nothing could get away fast enough, not even the bliss of being with Kyran at the moment. She supposed it was better they talk about what had happened and get it over with. Risa decided to let Kyran fill her in on his story first as hers was quite overwhelming.

”Kyran, what’s happened to you since the ball? You were gone when I looked for you.

” Honestly the last thing I remember after the ball was Elthrael taking you. I panicked and I can’t remember anything after that. I woke up in a cave with strange creatures.” Kyran replied, “Did Elthrael hurt you, what happened then?”

”How peculiar. I was so worried about you.”She hugged him tighter, ” I was so happy to see you safe.” She sighed in reply to his question, shaking her head, ”No, but I did end up breaking away from him. His intentions did not seem any good and he didn’t care to help me look for you and Elsea. I ran into Artemis, if you recall her, and then we traveled together. We split up this morning and traveled separately to the River Kingdom to fetch new clothes and supplies. I tried to meet up with her tonight and…” She broke off, swallowing hard. Determinedly, she kept herself from breaking down in front of him and said, ”I found my brother instead. He’s alive but… he’s wrong.”

Kyran tried to wrap his head around all of the stuff he was being told. “Artemis is alive? Helio is alive? What do you mean by wrong?” He hugged as his more animalistic senses kicked in noticing she was a bit disturbed by something that had happened.

”Artemis is alive.” She confirmed. Though Risa was sure Helio had killed Dionaea, she decided to not bring up Dionaea for the moment. She wasn’t sure if he knew she was dead and it was best they saved the mourning for another time. ”She’s fine. She’s at the healing center. I’m afraid she might have gotten hurt so I’d like to go there soon to check on her. I’m awfully worried. But Helio stabbed me and beat me. His eyes were… scary. He could manipulate dark magic. I’ve never seen a fairy do so before.”Her voice started choking up.

Kyran held her close petting her long hair, “I won’t let him hurt you again, I am so sorry, Risa, that you had to go through all of this.” He was visibly upset by what he was hearing. His protective instincts were kicking in as they always did when it came to Risa. It physically pained him to know she got hurt and he wasn’t there to help her.

”Do you think there’s any way to help him?”She asked sadly.

“I am not sure honestly not until we end up finding him again. I can’t accurately confirm or deny any possibility but my mother always told me not to give up on those you love so I wouldn’t give up on him yet Risa, he could be hurting inside as well.” Kyran thought about this inside his head but came to the conclusion that he would possibly need to kill him if he tried to kill Risa before he thought of a possible resolution to perhaps save him.

Risa nodded and said, ” That makes sense. He must have gone through terrible things to end up like that. I wish I could have done something… But we have to continue on for the others. Elsea is counting on us to find her again and I just gave a speech inspiring a rebellion so we have to get to that port and prepare as soon as possible.”

“Let’s rest now, it is late; she is likely asleep in the healing center. You had a traumatic night. We will leave in the morning as soon as you want.” Kyran assured her cuddling next to him.

Vaeril watched the battle between Darius and the frog with intrigue. The frog got away barely with its life at the conclusion of the interaction. He gave a slight chuckle at the dancing comment, wondering why he had thought of that. It was nonsensical. As if on cue, Darius took on a more serious expression, bringing up the important questions.

“No, we will not kill anyone, unless I say so.” He told Darius looking around for anyone that could see the two using his magic to enhance his eyesight. “It seems we are in the clear.” He paused a moment before opening a small light portal similar to the one he had done in Roshmi.

”We are leaving for the port now.”

Vaeril then grabbed Darius by the arm and dragged him through the portal with him immediately arriving just outside the port it was visible through the trees.

“Welcome to River Port. Some call this port ten since it was ten on the list of ports built in recent years, but its official name is River Port.”

“Personally, I am not looking for a fight either but you should watch your tongue with the insults putting me in line with such an abhorrent race.” She said before sheathing her sword. ” To clarify, I am a devil from a different plane. We have been at war with the demons for thousands of years. Either way, tell me what is the name of this place.” She questioned the group.

“Mel come here, don’t bother them, and stay silent.” She demanded motioning him towards her shoulder with her finger. He had been moving towards Corvina’s fire with eagerness and joy. Mel frowned and silently moved to her side.

Once Melzor was silenced, she addressed the others again, “I am Ezeri and this is Melzor.” She gestured to the imp by her shoulder, who gave them the middle finger in greeting,“and this here is Anzu.” She said pointing to the abyssal chicken at her feet.

“The scent of a demon lingers here in the air, if this sorcerer you speak of happens to be a demon it may be best I follow for the time being.” Ezeri wasn’t one to offer help, but she knew little of this world so engaging with the inhabitants would be the easiest way to attain information.

Vaeril watched Darius as he siphoned water into the bottle. He raised a brow as Darius mocked Umber, but he couldn’t hold back his smile. ” That was an interesting technique, however, I wouldn’t speak negatively about someone you may be working with in the future, especially one who can read your emotions.”He warned.

When his son was mentioned, he stiffened. ” My son passed some time ago. He was receptive to my teachings and probably would have taught you well. He had a sense of humor just as you.”

Just as he had finished speaking a large guttural croak echoed down the river, turning Vaeril towards the noise. “How prepared are you to fight do you think, Darius?”

The large frog shook the earth around as it hopped towards the two attracted by all the noise and small prey it saw before it. Bushes were crushed underneath its feet as it took its place in front of the two, letting out a larger, deeper, and more threatening croak.

CroAAAAAAooooooooooK!

Vaeril laughed amused at his reaction to being able to breathe underwater and the water splashing the two before gathering back and creating a sphere over his head. “You remind me of my son, always so excited to learn new things and outgoing when he did. I think I am going to enjoy training you, Darius.” He said, letting himself ease up from being so uptight.

“Yes, that is a very useful thing now that you know, one warning I have for that is if you are going to surround yourself in water, make sure you avoid being attacked by ice magic as that could end up killing you.” He told Darius.

“Overcoming limitations and obstacles is always key when using magic especially the more you strategize and get creative the more you can do I have seen many humans use their magic in unique ways none are ever the same which is the reason they can be so dangerous to Avalia the extent of their powers is immense and I am sure you can find your way if you maintain the mindset you have.” Vaeril continued to help Darius with his knowledge.

He then watched as Darius drained the water from the plants and trees with his magic creating another ball of water. ” Interesting this is what I mean, I have never seen someone do this in all my years of dealing with humans. Your species never cease to amaze; your quick thinking will surely make you a strong magic user almost as if you were born for it.” Vaeril truly saw so much potential in Darius. Kol must have done well with the basics but there is so much more Vaeril could teach him and that is exactly what he planned to do.

“That will come with time the speed and control will come easier the more you use it; your body will adapt to the consumption of mana to make it more effective and preserve more mana while doing repeated things as your powers grow , your emotions also have a very big effect on your magic. Anger and hatred will make it more powerful but will also consume more mana and you mentally. Just like Jack, his crazed emotions consumed him but allowed him to unleash the devastating full power of his magic to the point, he was out of control and needed to be killed or his destruction would have continued until he died of draining his mana and life force. That is another thing I should tell you if you run out of mana in a desperate situation, you can take from your life force using it to restore your magic energy. This is what I call soul energy, it is extremely potent but very dangerous. Keeping a calm mind and your emotions in check are necessary for fights that are drawn out.” He finished then watched Darius take a swig from the mournwine then poured the rest into the dirt. “Of course show me what you can do.”

Kyran and Risa

Location: River Kingdom
Time:Evening

Kyran spent most of the day heading towards the River Fairy Kingdom after being left by Ezeri in the cave. He only took a few rests, bounding on all fours in his fox form. Eventually, he had made it by the evening. He knew Risa would probably have headed here to get new clothes and such.

He stopped once at the edge of the River Kingdom and had to pause and think about where’d she’d go. She couldn’t go home, thanks to Xenelith. Her family was in hiding. Then he suddenly remembered that she had become very close friends with the strange bartender at the Pretty Flower. There wasn’t any way Risa could just walk around the kingdom casually, so she must have only gone somewhere she could trust.

Kyran began to go around through the woods, moving closer and closer to the plaza. But before he could get there, he heard:

“Kyran!!” Risa came running toward him from between the trees. She must have been just leaving to go through the woods to another location. His timing had been extremely lucky. She jumped up and tackle-hugged him, wrapping her arms and legs around him. ”I am so glad you’re here! And you’re okay! I am so happy!”She squeezed him tighter than she ever had, rambling, ”I mean I know you were okay because I asked the birds to check on you but STILL! To see you!!!”

Kyran embraced Risa holding her up by her behind, spinning her around with glee. She looked unharmed and he was relieved. “Of course, I am okay especially now that I know you are safe!” He said, kissing her forehead. “I need to know what has been going on. Would you mind filling me in, miss princess?”Kyran’s friendly and caring voice came in higher-pitched than usual.

She giggled, taking his face in her hands, ”I ran into Artemis then we were supposed to meet up...Oh geez...” Her smile faded as she realized what he was asking and what had happened. ” Oh Kyran. It’s so much.” Her entire expression fell along with her smile and tears brimmed in her eyes.

“Listen if it is too much to talk about right now we can wait, just know that I am here for you always.” He said calmly but inside he was worried. ”Maybe we should spend some alone time away from the chaos just for us to hang out and catch up as we did before this mess.“

Risa gratefully nodded in response to his offer to not talk about it yet. She wrapped her arms around his neck, ” Where should we go?”She asked. She knew Artemis was safe at the healing center, so it was no rush to go see her.

“My favorite spot of course! Remember the treehouse your father built for you when we were younger. I am sure it has been safe from everything it was quite well
hidden.”

Risa smiled and tapped his shoulders. She flew up and around him and climbed onto his back, wrapping her legs around his waist.“Giddy-up!”

Kyran laughed as he started to bolt towards the direction of the treehouse, “Hold on tight!” He said, feeling the wind against them. It took about 15 minutes to get there from their previous spot. “Finally we are here!” He said excitedly, setting her down. The place looked as if it hadn’t changed since he last saw it.

Risa stared up at the treehouse from below. The same small wooden hut was up in the trees with flowers and vines along the outside. It was hard to notice at first glance, but for Risa, it was like looking straight back into the past. “Wow. I feel like a kid again looking at it.” She took a moment to take it in and then glanced at Kyran and offered her hand, ” Need a lift?”

“A lift?”He chuckled, “I can climb you remember, I don’t think you could carry me.” He said as he ran up to the trunk and began climbing up into the treehouse, lifting the little hatch at the bottom letting himself in. The inside was filled with old drawings on the walls of the two as stick figures together with lots of doodles of flowers, and in one corner was a small bed.

Risa flew in and jumped in place excitedly.“Oooh!! It’s just as I remember!” She flew over to the stick figure drawings to trace them with her finger in delight. Giggling, she ran around the room looking at everything in delight, completely forgetting her terrible night in the moment.

Kyran went behind her, placing his finger on the stick figure of himself tracing it along with her, “I remember when we drew this together.” He smiled. Remembering the times he had spent with her here. “You know I dreamed of us being together like this..” he said, kissing the top of her head.

Risa leaned her head back onto his shoulder and stuck her tongue out at him, looking up at him, ”I don’t know Kyran. Your memory isn’t super reliable. ” She teased. She turned around and gave him a passionate kiss. ” But I’m sure you’ll remember that for a while.” She wasn’t sure why she was doing this now, but she wanted to and it felt right.

Kyran returned the kiss.” I will keep that in my heart forever.” He said placing his hands on her face, kissing her more slowly, moving his hands down her sides to grip her hips. Kyran then pulled her towards the bed and into his arms.

Vaeril watched Darius cause a mass of water to rise up out of the river, “Good work with your manipulation, I see Kol has taught you well in that aspect but in the field of magic that is child's play; there is much more for you to learn. He paused to listen to Darius’s request, watching him make a cone of water around them. This was also impressive, but Darius had ways to go still.

“For starters, users of water magic can summon water from the molecules in the air or from the ground. This works in most places but in places like at Daka Volcano where there is less moisture in the air and earth, it will also result in less water you can bring forth. You cannot influence the state of the water by turning it into a solid or gas like you said before you cannot control snow or any solid form of water. It can be manipulated in many ways. Your imagination will come in handy for instance if you take a ball of water and hold it around someone's head you could effectively drown them that way. Also the more water you have around you the more powerful you are and the more you can manipulate large bodies of water like a lake or an ocean you may be able to create a tidal wave or large whirlpool. Additionally, you can breathe under water. If you would like help learning any of these things I would be glad to do so.”

Vaeril took joy as he spoke, reminiscing on the time he was being taught by his father, and on the time he had taught his son in his first days of training. Darius had the same curious outlook on magic that his son had.

Ezeri continued traveling through the forest until she reached the scent of smoke and the familiar, welcoming sight of ash in the wind. This intrigued both Mel and Ezeri.

“Holy shit! You see this, Ezeri? That’s a whole lot of fucking smoke, some shit’s going down and I want in! About time we see some action other than some rabid dog. Finally some warmth too!” Melzor yelled and then immediately started flying for the flames.

”Okay, but let’s approach slowly, we don’t know what’s-”She broke off and sighed, running after him while cursing under her breath.

”When I fucking get ahold of you, you’re not gonna pleased, you impatient asshole!”Ezeri called up to him, sprinting towards Mel.

"Right Ez if you can catch me.” He said while laughing, looking back at her over his shoulder. Suddenly he flew into something large and soft, stumbling a bit before regaining his balance, “What the fuck another furry thing? Yo where is the damn fire?” He said to the large cat-like person standing before him. Melzor remained in flight as he looked around eagerly and wildly for flames, only to find none.

Ezeri had finally managed to catch up to Mel, seeing three other people standing before her. She instinctively unsheathed her sword. “What’s going on? What caused the fire here?” Ezeri asked the others. Anzu came bounding up behind her, hissing chaotically.

Vaeril waited for the group to split off and get out of sight before he finally stood up and stretched, “Well that was easier than expected to remove them from the picture. Now, do you see how quick they were to abandon a human? The rebels who had this great idea of using humans to fight for them… They treat them like disposable tools, which is a despicable way to treat those you need to fight a war for you.” He told Darius, touching his shoulder as he spoke to him from behind.

“I suppose we should head over to the river or a source of water. We could get some training in your magic out here while we are alone. It would be useful for you to be well trained in the path that we are moving on.” Vaeril began to head towards the noise of the water, nudging Darius to follow, “If you have any questions do not be afraid to ask. I will help with whatever knowledge I have.”
