If you read what i said you would have seen I have no problem With names from games but when the names are backwards it becomes weird especially when Terra is a real thing in our world. For example it would be super weird if you had a xeno race called earthlings which is technically what you have here cuz Terra = Earth and Terrans = earth inhabitants a.k.a earthlings aka humans
Again, thank you for your input. I'm not changing it.
If you're not here to join, please don't persist here.
I have to back Clever bird in the case againts the xenos being called Terrans and coming from something called the Terran Republic as that is literally the human race in Starcraft, not that you cant take names from games, but having a xeno race be Terran and not something like Zerg (still from SC but I would have allowed it) is just a little weird. Please dont take it the wrong way
Okay, I'll humour you. So am I supposed to also change 'bounty hunters' and call them 'morally bankrupt people finders' because bounty hunters is literally a profession in Star Wars? I'll confess, I'm being a little lazy in not coming up with a big alien name for these xenos. But I wanted to have human and terran feel remotely parallel, even if anything else physically about them are different.
Fine, it is weird. But I don't want to change it because I have decided on it for a reason, and I'll stick by it.
Name: What’s your name? "My name is Xioxas Azalon, sir."
Age: How old are you? "I'm 21-Years-Old, sir."
Race: What are you? "Well, I'm a terran, of course."
Genetics: What are you classified as? "Mod-type, sir."
Appearance: Describe what you look like. "Well, I'm a dragon-terran with black scales and a grey underbelly. My eyes are, I think, an amber-brown, and I have two horns adorning the top of my head. My tail and both my wings are intact, as far as I can tell! As for what I'm wearing, I normally wear black combat boots and a pair of gray cargo pants. And-- You guessed it, a black leather-mesh vest, which I can clip on my front here to account for my wings, see? I don't like standing out much.
As for combat gear, I usually strap on bits and pieces of combat armour that are resistant to both ballistic and beam damage. I just carry my carbine on a strap that un-clips so it's easier to use. I also wear a belt which has spare magazines and batteries strapped to it, as well as my pistol holsters on both sides, with my short sword sheaths hanging over my tail in an x-shape. Just a whole lotta black and gray, really..."

Important items: Do you have any possessions that are important to you? "Just a watch my brother gave me. It was supposed to remind me of my parents, because it belonged to dad. It was the watch mom gave him on their 10th anniversary, and it still has the inscription she had engraved on the back. 'Forever, With Love' it says."
Weapons: What weapons are you carrying? "I keep myself pretty armed... I normally carry a combat carbine with select fire for most combat situations, and two semi-automatic pistols as back-ups-- All of them customised, by the way! If I run out of ammo, or just get tangled in melee, I rely on my dual beam short swords, which I can use as ordinary blade weapons if I want to save on charge."
Physical Abilities: State your capabilities. "As you may know, sir, I'm genetically modified from birth. But it was supposed to be the process they offered to the public, so my parents didn't know that I was genetically enhanced. Put next to natural terrans, I'm physically stronger, faster, more durable and able to react to situations sooner. I can't say I feel like a genius, just that I can come up with a plan in less time and under pressure, so for the most part, my enhancement is mostly physical. Most of the enhancements aren't overt though, I can't exactly lift mountains, I can just do more than the average Terran. The only outright advantage I have is a… Spatial awareness, like a sixth sense. And it has kept me alive more than once.
But that's all just the stuff I am. My years with the military gave me plenty of combat training. I'm well-versed with my carbine and pistols, I'm accomplished both as a combat sniper and assault soldier, especially in urban combat scenarios. I've been in plenty of conflicts to be good at switching from one weapon to the next pretty quickly. I'm able to use two weapons at once, whether it's dual pistols or dual shortswords, pistol and shortsword, you name it, I got it. And, well… If I really need to, I can also breathe fire like any other dragon."
Psionic Powers: Do you have any psionic powers? If so, describe what you can do. "No, sir. No psionic stuff here."
-------------------------
Personality: How would you describe yourself, what makes you who you are, mentally and emotionally? "I'm guessing this is to assess my psychological wellbeing, huh? Well, I used to be anxious; a little worried about screwing up. My brother taught me though that it gets easier once you confront the problem and overcome it. Seven years on, I'd say I'm pretty laid back. Any jokes I make about dying are just black humour on my part, I'm past my depression at the moment, and I hope this hiatus on sadness lasts a long time. I guess you can say I'm pretty hopeful too, like… Positive? Yeah, danger doesn't 'really' phase me. All in all, I'm just happy lil' survivor, ya know?"
Background: Briefly tell us your story up to this point. "Briefly huh? Well, I was born to two loving parents who lived in the suburbs. I had a brother-- Axel, he was two years older than me. You know how genetic modification was offered to the public, right? My parents did that with me.
That's why my eyes have an amber glow. Mom really liked amber, and that's the most they wanted with me. They didn't want me to be too different from my brother, so that he wouldn't feel jealous. And, he always looked out for me, so I'm glad for that. But I guess I could've been the one looking out for him.
See, the scientists that handled my genes decided to play with physically enhancing me, as part of a military project. They obviously didn't ask for consent because my parents had no idea, maybe a clue when I ignored getting bonked on the head by a table that fell over.
Ah. But you wanted this to be brief. You also probably know about the terrorist movement, Terra-Natural, right? I was 14 when they rampaged through the residential areas, dragging out families who had kids who were like me. Our parents hid us in the attic when they came for us. If Axel hadn't held his arm around my mouth, they would've found us after they… After the gunshots.
We couldn't stay there after that day. A week after when we'd been to the funeral, we packed what we needed, locked up the house, and said goodbye to home. Axel signed up with the military looking to be a peacekeeper, and after a bit of hesitation, I did the same. I thought they'd think I was too young, and not enough. I was surprised when they let me in. I found out later about the project that made me, which was probably why they put me into the Black Ops division instead.
Before I left on deployment, I met up with my brother… I was so scared back then, I broke down in front of him, and maybe a few other people. But he just smiled and told me to give it my all. And that, when I turned 21, we could go to the bar together after deployment. He gave me the watch that day, before saying goodbye.
I'm 21 now, and I go to the bar from time to time whenever I manage 'not dying'. I still wish that he might show up, you know? But he was killed by the same terrorists that killed my parents, during that insurgency three years ago. I got back from a covert operation when I found out. Not the best news to get during a homecoming.
Anyways, five years with the military, doing clandestine ops just because I'm good at it, and I gave it up... Just before a full blown war. Good timing. Now I'm here, hunting bounties. That's my story, at least."
Roleplay Sample: We'll just need some verification. The bar was loud. Ear-splitting. Or maybe that was just because he had a bit to drink? No, no way. It was definitely ear-splitting. Xioxas looked up from his drink grumpily at the young adults in the pub. Sure he was only a year or two older, but he wasn't the one putting shit music on. That's what the ear-splitting. Not the screaming civilians on the dance floor, doing their club circuit on a Friday night, but the music: it was a horrifyingly gritty mess of beats, and it made Xioxas wish he had talent with a musical instrument to put those beats to shame. Or at least, for himself anyways. Everyone else in the pub probably have a different concept to what was 'good music'.
He leaned on the counter as he looked out at the dance floor, so filled with mist and flashing coloured lights. He took a sip of whiskey, judging what he saw out there. Terrans of all kinds, a dragon here, a wolf there, a couple of fox ladies sticking together. All of them drunk and probably high to be dancing the way they were, sweaty and unaware messes. But they looked happy. Like they were having fun. That's what Xioxas appreciated, and he bore the risk of going deaf for witnessing people happy while they still can be. War wasn't on their doorstep, and that was something enough to be pleased with. He stared back into his drink, and sighed.
It's not here yet, at least.
Theme Song: Got a song you like? "Oh, uh... This one."
Name: What’s your name? "Ace Ovehartz." Age: How old are you? "19-Years-Old." Race: What are you? "Terran." Genetics: What are you classified as? "New-type." Appearance: Describe what you look like. "Well... I'm a sky-blue salamander-terran, with a lighter underbelly. I think I saw brown eyes when I looked in the mirror? Like chocolate! And, I've got blonde hair as well. I'm wearing a red armless hoodie and tattered dark-blue jeans with black runners. I also have these neat looking leather goggles! They look big when I wear them, but I like them! If it gets cold, I just throw a black leather jacket on-- It works pretty well! Dad's given me a belt and bandolleeair? Bandole-- I can put stuff in the leather straps, and I can keep the gun and knife on the belt."
-------------------------
Important items: Do you have any possessions that are important to you? "Not really... Dad doesn't let me keep anything. He says 'worldly trinkets are garbage'." Weapons: What weapons are you carrying? "Dad gave me this pistol and scary-looking knife, said I could use them as protection if I needed to. But I'll only use them if they're trying to hurt me. Other than that, he gave me these pouches full of little vials with gas. He said I can only use one at a time, like we practiced." Physical Abilities: State your capabilities. "I'm not really strong, but I'm a pretty fast runner. I used to beat dad in a game of tag, but he'd always cheat and use the car to catch me. And even then, I'm really slippery and can get out of grabs really easily. He hated that too." Psionic Powers: Do you have any psionic powers? If so, describe what you can do. "On touch, I can daze someone with their own happy memories, or things they desire a lot. It works unless they're also special like me, and it usually lasts for a minute or two. When I look into someone's eyes, they fall in love with me-- I don't really get a choice... It wears off eventually, and they grow immune to it as well, so I can't use it all the time if I wanted to. I can also make bubbles, but... They're only good as a distraction. Dad says I can use better powers when I breathe the funny gases. I tried it once, and I could use fire, like in those video games? It doesn't last very long though... And it takes a lot out of me."
-------------------------
Personality: How would you describe yourself, what makes you who you are, mentally and emotionally? "Dad calls me childish, and sometimes he gets mad about it. But I don't know what he expects. I do what he asks a lot of the time, because I know if I don't, his work friends will lock me up. I daydream, a lot. So, maybe I am air-headed sometimes, but when I need to do something, I'll make sure it's done. I want to make dad proud of me." Background: Briefly tell us your story up to this point. Theme Song: Got a song you like? "Oh, uh... This one."
A woman walked into the foyer of the Ministry of Military Affairs. When the receptionist looked up at the entrant, she expected someone official, perhaps wearing a uniform or a suit at least, but not anybody who looked so… Civilian. The woman worked a pair of tall black leather boots with heels, red skirt and a silver-white blouse underneath a black trench coat. She was a brunette, her hair trailing down and over her shoulders as it was tied behind her ears by a pink ribbon, and her face was notably young and pretty, as the receptionist noticed a beauty mark on her cheek.
She had an earbud in like a teenager who was listening to music on the go as she casually stepped up to the desk. When she approached, the receptionist realised upon closer inspection the beauty mark was, in fact, a small black tattoo of a heart below her chestnut-brown eyes. She immediately wondered what the woman, surely in her mid-twenties, could possibly be here for. “I’m Electra Heart, I’m here on behalf of these summons from Prince Nathaniel,” The woman introduced herself properly with the tone of a lady, despite her dress sense. She procured a folded letter from her satchel. The receptionist took the letter off her and to her surprise, she recognised the royal seal at the bottom with his signature.
“Ah yes, I see,” She replied as she investigated the letter. The rest of the summons simply stated the location and the time Electra was meant to arrive at. “Five minutes early, good. If you could wait just a moment, Ms. Heart…” Electra nodded with a smile. “Very well,” She replied, and she turned away as the receptionist picked up the phone. “You have a visitor here per your summons, sir; an Electra Heart?” The receptionist reported. She nodded. “Very well.” She put the phone down and looked to Electra. “He’s ready to see you, just head up the elevator to—” “The top floor, yes?” The receptionist looked surprised, so Electra clarified. “I imagine no less for the prince.” “Of course. The top floor, his office is straight ahead from the elevator.” Electra nodded her thanks and went on her way.
The elevator was a cased platform in a glass tube. Electra hit the VIP button and then leaned against the hand bar. She cast a gaze over her shoulder as the elevator ascended, looking over the city through the glass. She idly blew bubbles with her gum as the elevator hit stops along the way, picking up and dropping off military personnel and administrators every few floors. She focused her attention purely on the city, despite noticing the stares of others in the elevator reflected in the glass. Arsodus began to grow not distant, but smaller; as though Electra were moving up in the world. She smiled a little. Soon enough, as she neared the top floor, the last of the bystanders hopped off the elevator and it was just Electra now. The elevator dinged as it hit her destination, and Electra stepped through the opening doors.
Electra stepped straight ahead toward the prince’s office, further made obvious by the two bodyguards outside the door. Electra glanced to her left at the empty strategy room as she passed. When she neared the office, she slowed to a stop as the bodyguards eyed her down. “—This isn’t over, prince Nathaniel.” The door slid open and a military official stormed out of the office abruptly. He was a decorated general, evidenced by the high-ranking uniform and medals adorning his lapel. He stopped for a moment and looked Electra up and down, bewildered as to why she was here. Electra flashed a tiny smile, like a confident woman who knew where she was. The general scoffed and stomped past her, and Electra just shrugged smugly. After him, a richly dressed and rather handsome man stepped into the doorway and smiled at Electra. “Ms Heart I believe. Please, come in.” The prince beckoned.
As the door closed shut behind her and the prince took his seat, Electra took the seat in front of him without a prompt. “Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?” She began as she dug through her satchel. “Ah, a woman of business. I can appreciate—” “He’ll ruin everything we’ve built so far. We have to deal with general Roa immediately!” The voice of the general blared. The prince’s smile faded to a stern expression as he stared at the Electra’s phone as she held it out, a recording playing from a bug she had planted on the window. “I have a solution, but you must calm down general Isaacs.” The prince’s own voice joined in.
“Now… You probably wouldn’t want the rest of this conversation on the broadcasting network…” Electra spoke over the recording as it continued. “So, I think we should re-negotiate my fee before we talk about the contract; shall we?”
Without a doubt, Electra loved her job.
The Silvestia-Anavia War
Originating from its namesake capital Arsodus on the homeworld Paradicial, the Arsodian Empire was originally a federation of Paradicial's collective population. However, over the first century of the Arsodian Era, the Empire grew rapidly as it took to the stars. From one planet to another, colonising each star system and the next, the Arsodian Empire dominated the systems in the galaxy of Silvestia. As it explored the stellar frontier, the empire grew in its belief that it was a supreme force to be reckoned with.
This hubris took full root almost six centuries since the formation of the empire, when the first xenos were encountered in the neighboring galaxy of Anavia. When the Arsodian Empire encountered the Terran Republic, the current emperor, Arcturus Arsodian, considered the stellar nation to be notably smaller in dominion to that of the empire. Pairing that with their animal-like appearance, it was a foregone conclusion that the terrans were beneath humans. To that end, Emperor Arcturus submitted his demand for the republic to submit itself as a vassal to the empire.
The terrans refused. After all, they did not form a republic as their galactic government, just to be sworn in service to a power-hungry monarch. Seeing that they would not submit, Arcturus reflected and showed understanding for their sovereign independence. Instead, trade agreements were reached between the two powers, and for a time there was prosperity to be found. However, this amiable arrangement was violated, and the emperor's feint was revealed for what it was; despicable treachery.
He used the trade agreement to determine what planet served as a nexus for the republic's economy. And on the next shipment to that world, he ordered cataclysm bombs to be planted in the cargo. That world was Juvia VII, and in a sudden act of terror, the inhabitants of Juvia were obliterated by engineered earthquakes that unleashed fissures of fire. Barely a portion of the population survived. This was the beginning of the Silvestia-Anavia War.
Story
The year is 573 Arsodian Era (AE), two years since the beginning of the Silvestia-Anavia War. The Arsodian Empire of Man is embroiled still in its conflict with the xenos of the Terran Republic, with both sides engaged on all fronts over key star systems between the Silvestian and Anavian galaxies. It was believed that with their superior numbers and military command that the Arsodian Empire's Silver Legions would emerge victorious. But the battles rage on, with no end in sight.
Moreover, the stalemate has caused bursts of infighting among the Emperor's Silver Legions. The 7th Legion, under command of general Vincent Roa, has defected from the empire to become their own independent military faction. Using a Terran BlackOPs research complex as a hideout, general Roa has made his intent clear in a manifesto that the Emperor is weak, and only under Roa's command will the legions find victory. Rhetoric or not, there are signs of dissent among the higher ranks, and the Emperor has thin patience for treachery.
But all the other legions are engaged with the Terran armies currently, and no lost ground can be afforded. As a result, an Imperial Bounty has been placed on Vincent Roa; a rich reward of 200,000 credits for any who bring him in, alive. And, bonus payments for badges of the 7th Legion. It is with hope that, although the basest creatures of Arsodian society was to be trusted, Roa will be returned to face justice, and to secure the sensitive military intelligence from falling into Terran hands.
Unfortunately, the Emperor's concerns have not escaped the notice of the Terrans, as they in turn place their own bounty of equal reward, and hope, contrary to the Emperor's own, that Vincent Roa's intelligence will be in their possession and in turn victory over the Arsodian people.
Ironically, the thing both sides have in common are bounty hunters; the scum of the systems, whose moral compasses are only defined by the money lining their pockets. And what doesn't inspire cutthroat fanaticism than a really good payday? Because if you can count on a bounty hunter to be anything, you can count on them to understand that a reward is best enjoyed undivided.
Rules
1) Behave politely! If things get ugly with one another, take it to PMs, or, better yet, consult with me. 2) Write well! You don't have to be the best, you should just want to be better. Proper grammar and spelling, but if you make mistakes, you can just edit and we move on. 3) Have fun! Listen, if I have to explain this 'rule' to you, there's something wrong here.
Furthermore, this is a Casual-Advanced roleplay. Which means-- Well, honestly, it means I don't expect any more of you than what I expect from myself when I roleplay. If you can manage 1-2 paragraphs that are 3-5 lines long, then that's fine. What's not okay is fluffing up posts with paragraphs full of extracurricular information; stuff we don't need to know or are not relevant to us (eg: your character's tragic life story), which brings me to my next point. Please don't bring shit-edgy anime tropes into this roleplay. I had it to my eyes in a past roleplay with a character having a mental breakdown/flashback marathon next to me for no reason when I just wanted to enjoy my coffee (honestly, I just glazed over it). Thinking about past sadness is fine, just don't dedicate more than a paragraph to it. But moreover, focus on what needs to be posted. Action over detail. If someone has already described something, don't repeat it in your post; notice it and just focus on your character's reaction. Essentially, just think about others you're roleplaying with when you write, yeah?
Races & Genetics
Humans The people of the Arsodian Empire are human, standing upright and speaking plainly as evolution had made them. No longer were they baser animals; they were sentient, and on top of the food chain. As a result, they had become a dominant force, and sought to hold their place as masters of the galaxy with their flat faces, firm limbs, and proper posture.
Terrans The people of a smaller but no less significant inter-stellar nation known as the Terran Republic, the terrans are xenos who come in all different forms as humans come in all different ethnicities. Terrans share in common that they are anthropomorphic; like humans, but not entirely so. Though they look like animals, they share a level of sentience and intelligence that humans thought were solely theirs to command. Terrans come in so many different forms, but the most common among their populace are equines, vulpines, lupines, felines and reptiles, even dragons who are the essence of human fables.
Naturals Naturals, named solely for their natural birth, have only the capabilities given to them by their parents and chance. However, this does not make them lesser, and only credits their perseverance and hard work when it pays off. That they can say they accomplished everything that they have without any amount of gene-modification or psionic treatment, and often are the more level-headed beings on the genetic spectrum.
Coordinators / Modtypes Always striving for more, to be better, to be stronger, to be faster; this is the dream. Genetic sciences had the answer to that dream. By genetically editing children before their birth, not only were parents able to control the child they had, but they were also able to enhance them. As a result, these beings were subject to superior strength, endurance, and reflexes, giving them a head start at a life that might throw much at them. As a result of messing with these genes, however, these genetically-enhanced individuals will often face stigmatisation from naturals, and are prone to intensified emotions such as anger or sadness in stressful situations.
Innovators / Newtypes Psi-potent individuals who have been treated through psi-rich gases or hallucinogens that induce a trance-like state. As a result, the individuals gain a grasp over psionic power, at the price of addiction to the gases that made them. And sometimes, they have to be conditioned to supress emotions, as it can cause their power to go out of control. However, with control they have nigh-limitless potential; reading minds, making liminal suggestions across distance, create shields of energy, or even subjecting others to designed illusions are among the more basic powers at their disposal. There are rumours and theories of the possibility of 'natural' born individuals with psionic powers. However, it is believed that while they might not need psionic gases to use their abilities, they would suffer if they were not taught how to tame their emotions and in turn, control their powers.
Bio-Weapons There is a point on the genetic spectrum where it is no longer just enhancement. It is at that point there are beings who have been twisted, shaped into instruments whose existence is for war. Whether they are made at birth in test tubes or forged from broken naturals or even gene or psi-enhanced individuals seeking more power: when they become more machine than organic; when they are cybernetically modified for inhuman strength or unreal psionic power; or even when they become something that no longer resembles human or terran, is when they become bio-weapons.

Summary
Too long, didn't read? Shame on you, but anyways: Basically, inter-galactic war, general defecto-rebellio, emperor mad, bounty posted, but also enemy furries = detecto-dissatisfacto so post their own bounty. So now, bounty hunters from both sides, humans and terrans, searching for general defecto. Oh, and you guys are the bounty hunters. And you may or may not ally with each other. But if you all ally together I'll be mildly surprised. I guess.

Alexei received his orders from Zahra to provide support to Pilot Amarati, who had engaged the enemy head on. Alexei sighed. "I wanted to be the suicidal idiot, but okay." He muttered offhandedly as he turned course on the move. He also felt better knowing that their squad lead was keeping monsieur LaBelle occupied, so he made the dash more out into the open, just as building behind him collapsed from a tank shell. Alexei grunted as he felt the force slightly, but was none the worse for wear as Vectis dashed in quadrupedal form. He assessed the combat map as he was in transit, and between him and Pilot Amarati were a few more hostiles; enemy transports and a tank. Alexei had confidence in his ability to engage just one tank, maybe even three tanks, but only so long as LaBelle wasn't so compromised to hinder his movement.
Vectis dashed around the corner and with the front feet tossed aside one of the transports. Before the tank could make reactionary fire, Alexei kicked the thrusters up and surged forward in the blink of an eye, and the beam sabre slashed through the armour and crew inside. He kicked his vertical thrusters up afterward to leap up against a building and strafe the transports and ground troopers' retaliatory fire, using the CIWs to engage the troops. It was only suppressing fire, and as Vectis leapt across the street again, he shot apart the last two transports before dashing around the corner, leaving the troops without any armour, light or heavy.
He then heard on the radio a woman's voice. He did not recognise it, but saw it came from the machine marked as Pilot Cassius, the jolly drunk. He smirked at Trudeau's report. "Oui madame, on the double!" Alexei reported as he took up bipedal position amidst high cover, and with Impetus on primary, waited for Pilot Trudeau's mark. After battle mom took fire at the lead fighter and erased it from existence, Alexei acquired his targets immediately. "Vectis, targeted and firing!" Vectis pulled the trigger each time it locked onto a fighter, Impetus' beams searing through light armour and destroying enemy craft. He engaged other air squadrons as Maman engaged the lead squadron with her air superiority missiles, shooting down the fighters he needed to cripple formations and provide Cassius with the cover he and his 'lady' needed.
Alexei then checked his map to see if there were hostiles in the vicinity, as he expected the enemy air to have called for help in engaging at least the ground forces shooting them down. He looked up and saw on his optical sensors that two 'jets' had descended and transformed into ground NCs. Adaptable NCs, much like Vectis. Alexei snorted. He then saw that one had engaged Cassius' machine, and the other came to engage him. Wasting no time at all, Alexei kicked the thrusters up immediately, once again engaging the dust shroud to keep the cloaker NC in mind, as Vectis dashed into quadrupedal form to evade the dual-minigun fire. For the most part, Vectis lived up to its specialty of using high mobility to avoid damage. But from the stinging pains Alexei could feel jabbing at his left arm and leg, it appeared a few rounds managed to clipp Vectis' armour.
Vectis transformed behind cover, but only momentarily to formulate a plan as the high velocity rounds reduced the viability of the building's protection quickly by the second. Alexei checked his combat map for a split second and memorised it as he got Vectis to ready Impetus on secondary and fire two quick bursts to supress the enemy NC. The aim of his shots were wilder than any other shots he took, the first volley just dissipating across the field. However, Alexei quickly recalibrated his aim from the first volley and at that moment the second volley did more than suppress the enemy NC. The explosive rounds found their mark on the NC's left minigun and took it out of commission. Alexei saw this moment as opportunity. As the building fell apart, Alexei kicked the thrusters up to full throttle again, moving into quadrupedal form once more while the enemy recovered and reloaded.
"Va te faire foutre, bon monsieur!" Alexei cursed the degenerate hybrid NC, strafing it as it shot at him again. In turn he returned fire with Impetus' secondary bursts, before digging Vectis' paws into the dirt in a combat slide. His enemy focused fire on Vectis, as the minigun unleashed a barrage of bullets upon the wolf mid slide. Alexei seethed through gritted teeth as his blood boiled through his left side in tandem with projectiles shredding at Vectis' side armour. As soon as he saw his opposition finally reloading once more, Alexei then roared as he spurred Vectis forward. With assault cannons armed and firing alongside Impetus, the wolf dashed amidst the path of suppressing fire it had already laid down. The enemy's remaining minigun exploded under Impetus' firepower, and the assault cannon shots simultaneously took out his arms, then his legs with remarkable synchronicity.
Alexei then ceased fire for the split second, and directed all energy to both rear thrusters and Vectis' beam wings, charging the output to the max as Vectis surged towards his crippled foe. In that instant of passing, Vectis delivered a final leaping blow-- The beam wing searing through the NC's head. Fully crippled, and probably put unconscious from the amount of pain inflicted, the NC-- reduced to pretty much just the cockpit, collapsed on its side. "Au'revoir..." Alexei bid his fallen foe. He panted for a moment, happy that he managed to disable rather than kill and opponent. He then moved Vectis toward cover, checking up on himself and then checking his machine's vitals after. Energy reserves were at 78% still, but Alexei knew he used up at least 12% on that last fight. Reckless, especially if there were more NCs incoming. He then scanned the map for his next engagement, and also to locate Cassius. He then looked on his optical sensors to see how the machine was faring against its own opponent.
Alexei had just smiled at Zahra's comments on the 'defeatist' nature of his caution. "We have to be prepared for anything, madame. Nobody likes the idea of being prepared to cut off their arm if a wound becomes infected, but sometimes that's just the reality." Alexei remarked. At that moment, another had come into their midst announcing herself rambunctiously as Marianne Trudeau, or 'maman'-- Mother. Playing mother to the squad wasn't something Alexei could accomplish, but from his minute of experiencing this lady, he was sure she might at least make a name for herself.
And that name would be 'battle mom', probably.
Alexei finished his mocha and snacked on a biscuit bar he had been saving. At that moment, Joey looked at his watch and announced for them to be ready. Soon after, the General Commander sounded off on their communication devices, and Alexei checked his comms as he stood up and put his helmet under his arm. He slipped through the coffeehouse and out into the corridors, heading on his way to the hangar while listening to Narra's briefing. He also announced that Zahra would be squad leader, and Alexei smirked. Watch over us.
Alexei got to the hangar, which was bustling with mechanics. The chief mechanic popped up on comms to tell them their mechs were ready, and Narra commented on this being done during their socialising. Alexei smiled, happy to know Vectis was plenty combat-ready. He finally donned his helmet, clipping it to his suit and then jumped onto the pilot bar that retracted, lifting him up to Vectis' cockpit. As the hatch sealed shut behind him and Alexei fell into his seat, his neural network interfaced with Vectis'. In his head, Alexei recited the mantra of d'Vexille in their mother tongue.
For the honour of all who came before us...
Vectis' systems began to light up, interfaces and visuals coming online. He then motioned Vectis to move, following Zahra's lead. The squad assembled at their assigned positions, and there from their vantage they watched the kinetic barriers in the distance. Alexei readied Vectis and Impetus on primary fire, and as the initial assault braced the kinetic shields, he opened fire alongside his comrades on the intruders. Lining up each shot in succession and pulling the trigger. One by one, Vectis shot gunship after gunship down. He was thankful that Narra said nothing of conventional forces. He continued his marksman rhythm, following the cue of Vectis each time Impetus charged up to full power for each shot. When the 2nd wave started to breach, he took to the streets with Vectis toward the front lines.
As Vectis then stepped out into the street, Alexei knelt down behind his shield as an explosive tank shell blasted against him, pushing him back several metres. He grunted, just at the force alone, but Vectis was unharmed. "Contact! Vectis, engaging hostiles at Charlie!" He announced on comms, and returned fire with Impetus' secondary mode at the Red Star forces. They were conventional tanks and transport vehicles, scrambling to engage the NC properly with anti-armour weaponry amidst explosive suppressing fire. Alexei then leapt with boosted thrusters, rifle and shield holstered onto his NC as it transformed quickly into quadrupedal form.
Vectis bounded from the street and then off a building, strafing the slow-reloading tank shots with ease. After all, how could turtles hope to outplay the wolf? Vectis closed the distance with only its next leap, thrusters letting it drift as its wing blades powered up and assault guns fired. The tanks had no good options. They were either blasted away by the assault guns, or sliced in half by sheer heat. The small battalion lost their armour and their transport, and were reduced to fighting on foot. But Alexei considered them crippled enough to leave alone.
Even though ground troops could certainly use anti-NC weaponry to hurt him, Alexei had calibrated Vectis well enough to strafe even swarms of missiles, and then let the point defense deal with the rest, or at least the most dangerous projectiles. He would rather the threat of damage than vaporising foot soldiers. It never sat right with him.
Zahra then announced the presence of a cloaker when the 3rd wave breached the barriers, and Alexei followed her cue. He input values for Vectis' to output to the feet thrusters a small amount of power to propel dirt into the air with. Isaac came up on comms soon after as one of the machines-- Sahaquiel, engaged the enemy forces ahead of Alexei. He asked for real-time linking of the squads mapping systems, and Alexei was more than happy to oblige. "I'm counting on you, monsieur LaBelle! Show the enemy some of that precision marksmanship that only brave lions of France would know!" Alexei positively reinforced on comms, his voice warm with comradery. He then continued his way deep into the battlefield near the shields.
Alexei pressed on well past Charlie, disabling tanks and transports as he came upon them. At one point on the prowl, a gunship squadron engaged him, so Alexei kicked up a smokescreen of dust as he transformed Vectis back into bipedal form, and took aim into the sky. As the gunships fired aimlessly into the dust, a stray shot or two clipping Vectis' armour and sending stings of pain through Alexei, which he ignored to focus on his shots. Before long, the gunships were spiralling out of the air and colliding with the buildings.
When he was satisfied there were no other outlines in the cloud, Alexei breathed a sigh of relief for the moment of respite. Then there was an odd occurrence on the comms. He heard the familiar voice of monsieur LaBelle, and immediately Alexei feared for the worst. That's not good... He's supposed to be our long ranged support. Alexei thought, immediately thinking of how he expected to be taken over but had forgotten about it in the midst of combat. He didn't realise Akiyama's reach extended so far. With nothing else to do but take LaBelle's advice, Alexei became wary of the coordinated linking and desynced the intel feed toward LaBelle, hoping it would work. He then continued as one of the other pilots spoke on comms about training his weapons on LaBelle. Alexei gritted his teeth and cursed silently, as keeping close to cover just made Vectis less manoeuvrable.
When Chelsea mentioned Isaac, even turning toward him where he sat to clarify. Alexei beamed pleasantly. As he was about to comment, a veiled pilot, a Muslim woman Alexei remembered seeing at the briefing, spoke. She mentioned her autonomous drones, and introduced herself as Hafidh Zahra Mazghuuri, Hafidh formally and Zahra casually, sent as a representative of Al-Amir. Alexei nodded toward her with a polite smile. "Pleased to meet you, madame. I'm Alexei d'Vexille. I'll be sure to remember your drones for the coming battle." He introduced himself with a slight courteous bow toward Zahra.
Alexei then returned his attention to Chelsea, or more so Isaac. "And I met monsieur LaBelle earlier. How fortunate." He remarked as he looked to Isaac. "I asked only because I thought about when we were briefed about Osamu-- I got concerned about Vectis being taken control of." He explained. "So my only question is, are you good enough of a shot to disable instead of kill?" Alexei knew he was asking a lot, but he sure hoped Isaac would be capable of stopping Vectis from inflicting friendly fire.
Of course, if it is unavoidable, I understand.
After that, he noticed a newcomer whom Chelsea had complimented on the rosary on her hand. She introduced herself to Chelsea as Maria Leonora Trillanes; Len for short. Alexei smiled as the two conversed, happily listening and sipping his mocha as they did so.
He had introduced himself as Isaac LaBelle, and then asked Alexei if he was from France. Alexei chuckled. "Fortunately not, my family emigrated to Australia long ago, since before the Great War. Lucky for them too, we're not sure if we would have had the same fortune resisting Paragon there as we have with Red Star here." Alexei answered. ___________________________________________
Alexei smiled happily when he heard Chelsea affirm his assumption. As Alexei took a seat at the table with her, plonking his helmet down finally, Chelsea thanked him for his aid during the battle, and how hectic it had gotten. "I agree, it certainly was chaotic. But I am quite pleased you remember me, and more importantly that you've taken care of yourself since then. If that battle told me anything, your NC will be a very welcome support in this next fight." He replied, complimenting her role. Chelsea in turn complimented Vectis, and Alexei's skill piloting it.
As they conversed, the token drunk from earlier had entered, and made an executive decision to make a group table that started at the table he and Chelsea sat at. Regarding the noise of furniture being moved, Alexei shrugged at Chelsea's compliment, but with a humble smile. "I would be foolish not to credit my reputation at least in some part to my father. He made very well sure I was ready to fight at least as well as he did when he piloted Vectis before me."
Alexei quickly thought about Vectis for a moment, and then his earlier concern-- To avoid thinking of his father at a time like this. "Which reminds me, Miss Steiner, do you happen to know if any of our comrades here specialised in long-range engagement? A sniper, perhaps?" He asked. At this moment, one of the waiters brought over Alexei's order, to which he gave pleasant thanks. He gave it a sip as he listened to Miss Steiner, then took pause after her answer to try the mocha again. He was... Pleasantly surprised. The taste of real honey was absolutely welcome. On the other hand, the accompanying memories were... Mixed. A place of peace, of persistence, like the aviary on Wattle Road. But also, a place of loss, of struggle, like the day his father disappeared. A place Alexei in some part wanted to leave behind.
Of course, Joey knew no better when he mentioned the honey being sourced from Alexei's hometown. Alexei smiled out of habit when Joey guessed correctly that it brought back memories. Fortunately, Joey subsequently lobbied for a party called Remember Australia in the upcoming election. Alexei just nodded politely. "I'll be sure to consider it, many thanks." Alexei replied. He then continued sipping his mocha as he chatted with Chelsea, every now and again paying attention to one of the rag-tag band of misfits that had been assembled here.
I need to be stopped.
