@Sunbather I'll try and get a posty up either tomorrow or saturday, though maybe a collab might help things move along a bit faster for our two if you're interested. :)
@Sunbather Hau'oli City certainly lived up to its name; the sun-drenched streets rose up the mountain further back from the fancy villas enjoying the view from the shore. Mathew wandered through the crowded streets with Speckles in his arms, having nearly been stood on several times, as he gazed with fascination through the shop windows and all the things they sold.
“A battle Buffet! Oh I have got to try that. Ah.” Mathew’s ecstatic smile quickly fell. “It’s closed because of the festival this evening as all the staff are waiting the event. Shame really, guess we’ll have to come back tomorrow.”
He wondered away from the big Mall, it’s notice board proclaiming all the shops and services it offered, and continued to follow the lamp-post signs towards ‘Route 1’. One thing that surprised Mathew about Hau'oli City was the number of green spaces it had which far surpassed that of Jubilife City and each with a neat bordering fence.
The further away from the city centre they got the larger and luscious these green spaces became until it became too much for Speckles. As they passed by another one bordered by fragrant flowerbeds the little shinx squirmed and demanded to be let loose.
“Whoah, hey there, okay okay I’ll put you down.” Mathew chuckled and carefully let his partner down.
Finally let loose (free to spread her terror across the globe) Speckles sped merrily across the grass, charging through patches of longer grass and running circles around other visiting Pokémon with Mathew jogging not far behind to keep an eye on her. So much fun was she having that Speckles careened straight into another trainer and went head over heels next to them.
“Oh my goodness. I am so sorry.” Mathew apologised to the trainer, casting a fascinated look at their shuppet hovering nearby. “She just gets a bit too excited sometimes, are you okay?”
“For crying out loud!” Cheese bellowed. “How many of these gits are there!?”
She had thrown her fist full of fire charms when Damion had appeared but sadly all they had hit was the wall beyond and dotted it with scorch marks. At the very least they had managed to scare off Mark and help V2. Even without a face Mac manged to look somewhat peeved at her, she could easily tell by the way he with his head tilted to the side, and it annoyed her in turn.
“What?” She huffed. “You said I couldn’t take the names of customers, your friends or acquaintances.” – Cheese counted each with her fingers - “You never said anything about people trying to kill us.”
“yeah, yeah, yeah.” Mac relented with a croak, rubbing at the bruises around his throat. “Just…make sure it’s only bad guys whose names you take. How’re you doing V2?”
“That was the plan.” Cheese collected her dagger and thoughtful twirled in her hand. “GUess Mark didn't have much willpower considering how well it worked. What do you think Drake will give for his name?” A glimmer of a smirk appeared on her face.
“I forbid you from asking him for a favour.” Mac snapped as fast as his voice box would allow. “Or anyone else for that matter!”
Cheese simply grunted in response whilst she wondered over to the strange package lying on the ground. It was a box wrapped in cloth with a strange smell emanating from it that Cheese recognised and made her stomach twist. She grimaced and proceeded to gently kick the parcel towards the other two.
“They sent us a head of a Gorgan.” Another kick. “or a Medusa whatever that is.”
“Jesus Christ, they have one of those?” Mac too flinched away from the parcel. @Rex@Gentlemanvaultboy
@WriterRaven The water bottle fell from the vending machine with a clattering thud and Mathew reached in to get it with his shinx; Speckles, eyeing it with great interest. The Alolan heat could be felt even inside the ferry terminal and while Mathew himself wasn’t too bothered by it he did worry about Speckles with all that fur, especially if she evolved at some point whilst they were here.
“Okie Dokie Speckles that’s two bottles of water, so just give me a shout if you need a drink.”
Speckles barked an affirmative and trotted alongside her trainer, weaving her way through the sea of legs belonging to the other ferry passengers in the terminal. It was a small wonder the pair didn’t get separated even with Mathew twirling occasionally midstride to make sure his Shinx was either beside or just behind him.
The sliding doors wheezed apart for them with a comfortably warm sea breeze which Mathew took a very deep breath of. His very first in a new region and he almost did a little dance right there with excitement.
“Oh Arceus this is so exciting! Are you ready Speckles?” From his feet, Speckles barked happily.
Mathew delved into his backpack for the (overpriced) guidebook he’d bought on the ferry, thumbing through it until he found the map, and began to walk on ahead with Speckles beside him looking over the scenery around her.
“Okay so.” Mathew began in a very matter of fact tone. “We’re to meet Professor Kukui and this Kahuna at the festival tonight. My guess is that we’re meeting Kahuna in Iki Town. Oh!”
Mathew had looked up from his guidebook to spot a familiar looking coat a few steps ahead of them, belonging to the man whose Torchic had caused some fuss over at the ferry terminal when they had arrived. Mathew had been one of those laughing. As they walked past he overheard the man’s question about the festivals whereabouts.
“You looking for the festival as well?” He smiled up at the man. “I think it’s taking place in Iki Town, just up the road.”
Mathew held up the traveller’s guide and pointed to the town on the map and he had already circled around some of the ‘things to do’ on either side in black pen. Slipping the book into a side pocket of his backpack Mathew caught sight of the towering buildings just past the marina that set his eyes sparkling with wonder.
“I’m heading there myself actually, you coming?” It was more of a statement than a question. “Come on Speckles, stay close.” He patted his thigh as he set off towards Hau'oli City.
Appearance: A chubby young man with curly brown hair covering his ears, and threatening to cover his wide brown eyes, Mathew always aims to look his very best. Normally this means wearing open shirts with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows atop a t-shit (usually a concert one), a pair of fashionable shorts held up by a strip of fabric tied around his waist, fashionable white red shoes and finally an equally red and fashionable backpack.
For contests Mathew dons a white shirt and deep violet waistcoat with trousers in a slightly bluer shade. However, depending on the show the outfit may see some alterations or changes. His hair also gets tamed and swept to the side.
Personality/Motivation: Mathew wants to experience as much as he can just so he can say “Been there, done that, got the t-shirt” and then move onto the next interesting thing to catch his attention. Speaking of attention, Mathew adores being in the centre of it which is probably why he adores contests so much; the chance to perform in front of hundreds of adoring fans and show the world what you got!
The best to describe Mathew is that he’s always on the move, never a moment does he sit still long enough to spot the roses let alone smell them. Despite his impatience and hot-headedness Mathew does manage to get some work done albeit not up to standard one would hope for. Additionally he is a very big fan of rock bands and owns a big collection of concert t-shirts.
History: Floraroma Town: a small little town famous for its meadows of wild flowers, and the yearly festival celebrating them also. Mathew spent most of his days around the local Contest hall, a staple for any large town in Sinnoh, where his grandmother worked tirelessly throughout the year. When he was young Mathew would simply follow his grandmother around as she hurried (or hobbled) around making sure everything was in place for not only the smaller local contests held throughout the year but also for the big region wide ones that would use the venue. As he got older Mathew began to take on more and more responsibilities to help his grandmother like scheduling acts, selling tickets and just keeping the place running in general.
Mathew adored seeing the different acts perform. While he enjoyed seeing Pokémon battles at the local battle grounds those that were performed at contest hall were on entirely different level; having to not only defeat the opponent but also execute each move with a certain level of style and grace. Soon enough it became a habit of Mathews to ask the coordinators detailed questions about their acts whenever he could, and then cheekily asking his Grandmother if he could try out a few with her Floatzel.
While Floatzel was happy to oblige most of the time as they were old and sadly, simply could do all the extravagant tricks Mathew wanted to try. As luck would have it though his parents had been considering getting Mathew his own Pokémon. Both his parents had been trainers in their youth so Mathew had grown up and learned to get along with Pokémon from an early age. But of course, borrowing the Pokémon of your parents and grandmother is very different to owning your own. Mathew even spent many nights deliberating with his parents upon what Pokémon he wanted (An Eevee was an audience favourite as well as it’s evolutions, although a Buneary did have it’s charms also) but in the end it was a Shinx Mathew ended up catching, with the help of his Mother.
Now with a Pokémon at his side the next step for Mathew was to decide upon where he should start his journey. Again, Mathew spent many nights deliberating with not only his parents but new partner as well to earn Speckles’ trust. In the end, it was his Grandmother who suggested Alola to be his first stop. Not only was the region a great tourist destination but in addition to the newly opened league there were rumours of a few small contests being held locally on each island. Mathew didn’t need any more convincing with the idea of exploring what was, to him at least, an entirely new region.
A week later his passport arrived in the post and he was out the door the next day.
Speckles the Shinx Ability: Intimidate Hidden Ability: Guts Moveset: Bite, Spark, Leer, Charge Personality: A jolly little gal who is somewhat bemused by her trainer and would rather he took battling more seriously, though she does enjoy some of the tricks and dance moves they’ve been practicing.
@AbysmalDemon Still alive and interested, sorry for the delay but finally I'm done!
