Near Faw, the Platta around think they made a misinterpretation about what Faw had meant. The Platta, including Cyrie, figure mistranslation was likely given the differences of language and culture, so try again to interpret it. The Platta had never considered much in the idea of camouflage or painting oneself, but they now begin to consider it. With the self-dyeing idea, the thought is Faw means to address the use of the dyes to color life (such as Faw) more like the surroundings. One reason this idea hadn't occurred to them before is because the Platta see too much of nature's colors as meaning and not as a tool. But with this new idea, the Platta explore this further, getting more of the dyes of the shades of green and brown. In addition to trying to help Faw with the 'blending', some Platta also try this self-dyeing nearby on themselves.
During this, a younger Platta named Jum who has recently started their individual journey in learning the color symbolism of themselves tries brown dye on themselves. A mark is made, but they wonder what it means. They know it represents humility and horror depending on the context, but they don't know what to make of it for themselves. Does it mean they are horrible? or humble? Humility is generally viewed as helpful, but this lack of context makes them wonder what to make of it. They ask the Platta with the white cloth and they respond that dyeing the self has never been explored before, and that it is likely up to them to figure it out. That Platta thinks about it for awhile, but remains unsure.
Meanwhile, a food gatherer group in the north talk in private about how they think Platta will eventually need more food, and thus expand, and thus need more food, but as they expand, this will be harder to sustain. They see no way to prevent this unless more reliable means of food gathering show themselves. They discuss how even before the change to make all scouts, food shortages were arising, but they don't know how to address this. Some discuss how food seems to only resupply itself in time, and in places where there are no Platta, the food supply is generally higher because they haven't been there yet. They wonder if there was a way to make the supply come back faster, but so far, no ideas present themselves. They decide, until another means can be found, all they can do is keep expanding.

After the discussion to happen, the explorers of the northern area work to explore more north. As there is a lake there, the exploration is done in three main ways, to the west and east to see how far the line of water travels, and within the water to see how useful fishing can be. As the latter is done, it is clear the lake is larger than could be swam through like the river. But in the eastern exploration, unknowingly, about 8 Platta circle the lake to see how far the edge goes, heading in the general direction of the Saurians. Two are armed with weak wooden weapons, two carry cloth on which dyes are placed, and two are children, and they are all traveling closely together. None appeared to be a leader if one looked.
