But Black As Well

In the western exploration, after some time, the fight had ended. More emotions were tense than blood had been spilled, but it was still an awkward time. The Platta here split into three main groups for tonight. They were of the Platta seeking the different organization ideas, as well as some who were more interested in Platta cooperation than a particular side. The mediator of disagreement (black) was in this last group, and they were thinking about how to resolve this. It was their job to come up with ways to resolve conflict with mutual benefit, but they couldn't find a clear way that both groups could be made happy at this time. What seemed best was separate cities which each tried their own style, but this also meant a clear division of Platta way which seemed unheard of yet reasonable.

Meanwhile, in the group favoring hierarchical organization, they did realize a problem they had ignored. If there was conflict over what to do, how could that be resolved without discussion? Up until now, they saw white as a task delegator but what to do in the event of disagreement? A mediator of disagreement role was seen as more needed but they didn't want to admit that discussions were a simpler solution here.

In the eastern exploration, the Platta engineer (yellow) continued to explore mathematics and writing about it. The broken fruit had made them wonder how it can snap from a tree yet the tree remain, as well as snap of itself, yet bring multiple smaller pieces? This seemed off because the fruit wasn't a part of the tree conceptually but was physically until what made it fall. "What made this work?", they asked themselves.

The mediator of all (gray) was also on this journey and seemed troubled. A different Platta asked what was causing this, as the exploration was going well so far. The Platta explained, "It is the discussions regarding the order of tasks. There has never been as great a divide amongst Platta ways. I fear this may be our last exploration where all Platta work together."

@Elitestpotato@Nerevarine
The Platta observe the creatures talk. They don't know what they are saying to each other, but it hints to the Platta they are social creatures given their willingness to discuss with each other in the front of unknown life. The return with the watermelon is seen as a return of the peaceful greeting, and Platta follow with more food sharing. The cloth that is brought to sit upon is looked all over for drawing and color symbolism.
OOC: What color and design is the cloth?
IC:

When the introductions are made, the Platta writer (dark blue) of the group notes this on some cloth with many colors, including some black dye which is in smaller amounts than any other color. The last words about the bringing of mathematics to them aren't understood but it is figured that the unknown life isn't aware other creatures that can communicate might have different languages. "Perhaps they, too, associate intelligence as a trait not of being form but of ability to communicate. The Platta might also be a first meet for them.", the caretaker (dark green) thinks.

The caretaker (dark green) attempts to imitate the intent, gesturing to themselves and saying, "Wriz" while pointing to themselves. The other Platta follow with their own names. The writer of the group's name is "Kifam". Time is made for Faw to introduce herself if she chooses. The caretaker also then gestures to everyone, including Faw, and says "Platta". If Faw doesn't introduce herself, the caretaker then specifically points towards Faw, and says "Faw. Snow Brute". The caretaker, not knowing the ending message, stops there to see what is said next. A Platta child of the group, named "Tini" tries the watermelon as more food is brought out by the Platta as friendly intentions are perceived.

Yes, I figured you at least would take interest in that. They were an imperial line, all named the same but with a different Roman numeral. There will be significant reference to the old RP (mostly for my own amusement) in regards to his character. I've set up the Kingdom of the Cindorayi to more or less be the "bad guys" of the RP to throw a wrench into the gears of interspecies politics here and there. They, much like the empire of the past are harshly xenophobic and will stop at nothing to take over the Republic and enslave/kill other races.

I wonder if they can make the word unite against them, or will they cause more wars? It will be interesting to see how things work out with them.

Well, I didn't really do this with any particular illness in mind, however, if I were to specify the illness, I think it would be somewhere between Borderline personality disorder, Anti-social personality disorder, and Schizophrenia.

I see. If it's not too personal, what inspired this?
@Mihndar Rajah returns!

For those not familiar, Rajah was a (the?) infamous leader of Mihndar's race in the older Civ RP. It might not come out to be the same here, but the name has a significant history.

@Shoggothought Interesting emotion system, and idea comparing it to a mental illness. Is it at all like Borderline Personality Disorder? It hinted to me something like it, although it might just be because it is on my mind a lot from other things. Wikipedia page if needed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderline_personality_disorder

Snapping

In the western exploration, the mediators of agreement (white) and disagreement (black) were moving with the other Platta there up until now. Now, something had made them halt. The dust began to stir as the Platta in front were physically fighting each other. This was a very rare event at all. Anger was driving what the Platta present said to each other. The disagreement over the means of discussion had reached a breaking point. No one was using weapons yet, as the sentry in the fight had been forced to remove it. The mediators, who were around, but more calm, stared in shock and fear over this event. They were fearing a divide in Platta life, and they were right.

In the eastern exploration, the same Platta engineer (yellow) who had come up with the mathematical writing system had just witnessed a fruit snap and fall from a nearby tree. This observation made them question how such a thing could be joined as one object to separate into two, while at the same time, the fruit on other parts of the tree remain stable. They picked up the red fruit, and upon doing so, the brittle connections made it split in several pieces. The idea of division showed itself very strongly, and they began to draw what all the sudden inspiration compelled them to do.

@Valkyr
In the northern exploration, the Platta observed the reaction closely. The apparent panic of the creatures and grabbing of weapons confirmed the Platta speculation they were protective of themselves. The Platta had also known from the past, though, that to attack or run was often more provoking than standing still during these times, and so remained observing. At one point, one of them had slowly repeated the word of "food". The attempt to imitate was understood as cautious greeting. The one which went for the fish that was pushed back also confirmed the Platta idea of their cautiousness.

Soon, more words were spoken, but none Platta recognized. However, the gesture was more understandable. It appeared to be a reference to everyone of the creatures. It wasn't clear if it was meant as an introduction or a warning, but the Platta caretaker figured if it was meant as a warning, there would have been more aggression by now. The words were noted by a Platta in the back, as the caretaker in front gestured to all Platta present saying, "Platta."

@Elitestpotato@Nerevarine
In the southern area, where Faw had decided to travel with the Platta, the Platta observed the Arsurons. The symbolism most Platta had read into the creatures was that they were creatures that valued the pursuit of learning (light blue) in the effort to aid their lives (green).

The Platta observed the deconstruction of the canoe and conversations. The Platta had never considered much in the way of building something to be on the river nor making something of wood to the complexity of a canoe. Although they had no idea what the creatures talked about, they did notice the bowing and repeating of words. The sole engineer (yellow) of the group had noticed the pattern but didn't know what to make of it. They noticed the repetition, but wasn't sure what that meant. The book was also noticed and although the writing wasn't readable, they did notice the similarity to the Platta concept of dyeing cloth and wondered if the creatures were drawing symbolism similarly.

As the Platta and Faw were approached by the unknown creatures, the Platta prepared food to give as a gesture of friendship thinking that was more able to be understood than any words. They also told Faw quietly that they did not know these creatures, and were going to try greeting it as they had done with her in the past.

Multitudes Before the Divides

@Valkyr
The Platta observe the Saurians some of that morning. The language is not understood, but the Platta see them discuss similarly to a Platta camp, but the coloration is drastically different. The color of green as well as earlier fishing witness make the Platta think about their symbolism. The impression given was that they would likely beings that valued life and were protective of it.

That day, they approached. The plan was done. With a cautious approach, fish was left in front to show peaceful intentions. The Platta would observe how it was responded to. The caretaker (green cloth around the neck) of the group, Yisso, would be near and then attempt to communicate, starting with the word 'food' and work from there. The children of the Platta group would stay in the back to observe, and in the event of danger, they would be able to escape the soonest.

@Elitestpotato
OOC: If this moves too fast, let me know.
IC: The Platta acknowledge the ability to move, and explain about what is coming so Faw won't be confused. Using the words taught earlier, and new ones if needed, the way of the occasional discussion is explained, and the general patterns. This includes how all known Platta meet up to discuss discoveries, plans, and ideas. The cloths represent the roles the Platta speak for and from. There are also mediators to help make sure the discussion goes smoothly. Some Platta have been more in favor of longer discussions, and some have not been. But overall, that is how their system works.

The next day, Faw is brought to the discussion but it is explained if she would prefer not to join in, they would understand. The Platta talk about various things including Faw, what she has said, and explain the consideration of her joining. The Platta would hear what Faw has to say about the Platta doings if she is willing.

Other items discussed are the mathematical writing system and how it works, the symbolism of the times, various food sources, ideas of art, and the growing trend towards the hierarchical system. Those in favor of it leave soon after that for it is concluded the Platta with white cloth will explain their future tasks. Faw's presence makes some wonder if she should be a task delegator. Others think she should be considered as an equal. Faw is told of this happening.

Later, the plans for future explorations and discussion are made. The Platta are planning to go in four directions as before, but not with the same members. Faw is asked where she would like to join in.

The mathematical writing system developed earlier was being used to dye the findings everywhere from now on.

@Nerevarine
In the southern most camp, the Platta began to explore more. The result of the previous discussion had led to a divide amongst the group of how to progress. As the Platta with the white cloth had not joined this expedition, those present who saw that means of organization preferable now had to discuss again. The Platta who preferred the discussion saw this as disturbing. For now, a compromise had been reached. Those who would prefer to be directed rather than cooperate would be a sort of assistant to the others. This made the ones who preferred discussion more so uncomfortable. Upon the journey, though, they did find it did make more time to observe the world and consider what it was symbolizing.

It was also noticed that the river had begun to go sharply east and remain that way. As the Platta followed the river, some new life had been seen. In one far-range expedition, the first Arsuron were observed traveling together, and the presence of tools made them halt sharply. Was more life out here? It seemed so. A new cloth was quickly retrieved by a sentry to give to the map maker, and quickly the Arsuron was sketched with the symbols for 2 as well. They watched to see what they would do, as the copper swords were seen as mysterious large knives of brown and yellow, the colors of horror, humility, and things not of nature. The Platta observed closely, and drew about what they did.
Sorry about my delays. I need to get myself to make more effort to come here.

Also, here's a brief introduction to Arsuron mathematics

On the mathematical system, interesting. How would 23 be said?

<Snipped quote by Mihndar> @Mihndar
Regarding racism, although this wasn't directed at the Platta or me, it did make me think about why the Platta will or won't be that way. The reason why Platta don't judge by the color of skin is that they hold color as something too meaningful to insult each other over color as insulting that is insulting colors.

In the main village of the Night-Walkers, Khlin, they are more prone to accepting change and new ideas. The opposite is true in the village of Imlona (the one that Bolach just visited), which is much more religious and xenophobic, and considers other creatures to be "impure" and, as Trixarch had stated, "infernal servants of the flame". There might be some problems with them in the future, maybe even a full civil war when the population grows (think USA Civil War).

[/quote]
Interesting. What made them so different? No need to answer OOC.

@Raindeer On the serpent of the sea, I think as long as there aren't too many of them to balance it out, I approve.

hey guys, bad news, i have to leave the rp. things haven't been going very well irl and my mind hasn't really been in the right place, and i don't know when i'll be able to concentrate on it again. i'm sorry if i won't be around to update the map, but if someone really needs it to be done and they can't, just tell mihndar to bug me on steam. @Nerevarine i want you to take control of the rokthani if you want, but i understand if that's too much to deal with. i'll find something.
again sorry guys if this is an inconvenience

Ouch. Hope things get better. Not sure what else to say.

@Valkyr
Sorry if this sounds rude, but I meant in my last post that the Platta showed themselves with an offer of fish and talk about sharing of language. I'll work what was said into my new post, though.

On making an IC post, I am working on that.

Peeking and Speaking

@Elitestpotato
The Platta do learn more about self-dyeing from Faw. Although the idea of using it in the name of hunting hasn't occurred to them, more about its usage is recognized as useful. Faw's latest words are seen as a message of saying that that Faw feels weakened, but is willing to help out the Platta during the recovery. It is also interpreted that after recovery, Faw would have to leave. The Platta are not sure if there are more Snow Brutes, but acknowledge in understanding. They try to say and explain the Platta words of "yes", and "knowledge" to show this. The Platta also explain how they (using the word for Platta) are going to be moving (using the word for movement) in a different direction than where Faw came from soon. (Or together, "Platta move" with a gesture towards the north) "Platta. Faw movement?". They are explaining that tomorrow, they are heading to the north to meet up with more Platta, and are asking if Faw is well enough to join in or should some Platta stay here.

The Platta named Jum still explores the meaning of brown upon them, thinking it is important they learn. They ask a different Platta who is responsible for making maps about the meaning of brown on oneself. That Platta answers that when they have that, they need to sleep for they are not paying attention to the place where the colors fall. More is asked about this.

@Valkyr
The Platta group makes a rest at a spot near the lake. This is chosen for its proximity to a fish supply that can be both gathered from and checked for food in case of future camping plans. Near the middle of the second day as the details of the site are noted, some splashing is heard in the distance that doesn't sound like the fish of before. They look to the relative north, and see a different group of beings far away that also appear to be fishing. The Platta observe from afar, and see they too appear to be using spears like Platta fishers. The question arises, could other tool users be out here? As the night approached, the Platta kept a distant watch up until they could see where the distant tool users made camp.

At the local Platta camp discussion, the Platta discussed what to do about them. The plan was made that night. Tomorrow morning, they would approach cautiously and with fish left in front to show peaceful intentions. The caretaker (green cloth around the neck) of the group, Yisso, would be near to observe and attempt to communicate, starting with the word 'food'. The children would stay in the back to observe, and in the event of danger, be able to escape the soonest.

Haha, well if you'd like me to elaborate - they're more of the less fantasy side of the D&D races - like dwarves and elves. Height of a dwarf but the agile and fleetness (weak-physical strength too) of an elf. Think of them being a cross of dwarf + elf + harpies. I apologize if I'm not able to make them a little more unique D;

I'm the kind of person that likes to stick in bits of realism - as much as possible - in any sci-fi/fantasy things I come up with. :(

Their culture I try to imitate real birds as much as I can, in reference to how males love to look pretty (males are always the more colorful/vibrant ones in the bird-kingdom and all)

EDIT: TBH, I'm having a tough time trying to think of a story of an introduction to dyes with a similar format like my previous posts :X

Arr, having a lack of knowledge in the field truly limits my capability >< Perhaps I should think of an alternate method of coming up with color dyes D;

Perhaps make up a plant which the petal's can make a certain color. It would be a slow process, but workable given the technology present.

Another idea: Befriending the Platta. They have almost every color dye.

I don't see why not. Humans are certainly varied as they spread out, hence why we have a concept of ethnicity.

You could also certainly introduce the concept of intra - species racism, tempered as it may be by the presence of other species (Zenophobia will likely influence many species much more).

If Elitestpotato doesn't post soon I'm just going to skip interaction with him and do other stuff.

Regarding racism, although this wasn't directed at the Platta or me, it did make me think about why the Platta will or won't be that way. The reason why Platta don't judge by the color of skin is that they hold color as something too meaningful to insult each other over color as insulting that is insulting colors.

@Aweirdgamer Gagh! I didn't even notice your exploration progress. I don't think it even notified me of the mention. I'm working/struggling with a post right now. I'll also make sure to include a reminder of what the scouting party looks like. I was already planning to make the scouting party turn and head for the lake's shore again for water. With that, it looks almost certain that contact will be made. Is there anything to discuss in PMs regarding first contact?

That's all right. I can initiate it. I'm working on a post as I type this. I don't normally make any PMs, but if you have anything you want to discuss beforehand, go ahead and PM me about it. I will respond as I think the Platta will in IC, and me otherwise.

I've been considering formally introducing the trees commonly found in my forest. It is what the natives call "Klouskops", growing to an average size of 50 feet in height and a diameter of 6 feet with many branches coming off of it, creating something of a black web expanding all over the forest. The leaves that grow off of the klouskops are black, hence the evolution of Night-Walker skin coloration. One vital aspect to these trees that have become very important to the Walkers is that the branches, especially the thicker ones, are quite sturdy. They are able to support the basic huts that Walkers live in (normally one of these basic structures can be built on the thicker branches in the villages). The leaves and branches often leave the most wooded areas with little sunlight, and thus have developed a form of photosynthesis using the top of the tree as a "collector", delivering the necessary materials down to the rest of the tree.

Here is a picture that shows off (sort of, I'm not great at finding pictures) roughly what they would look like-

What are your thoughts? Would they be feasible for the "Homelands" inhabited by the Night-Walkers?

Assuming the Klouskops are the 'trees', that seems like a reasonable background of where they would be from to me.

Also, @Nerevarine, the Platta will likely be interested in joining that strange cult you reference (mathematics).
By the way everyone, i apologise in advance if my post rate drops or my post quality declines. That flu i mentioned a week ago has turned into Pneumonia, so that could affect my posting

Ouch.

All this talk of interspecies mixing got me wondering just how exactly our various species are related so I made up this little chart of evolutionary relations just based on proximity to each other plus similarities in pictures and descriptions.

Interesting chart. I think ignoring genetic technology, it should be determined in advance what species can have, even if rarely or with other consequences like parental death or sterility, live children. And if any species can, who would be the controller of them.

<Snipped quote by Mihndar>

I can change the taxonomy later; I just wanted to use real world groups to give a feeling to the groups and their characteristics. Oddly enough the term Carnivoran doesn't necessarily imply obligate or even strict carnivores. In the real life order, there are several omnivorous carnivorans (Bears and Civets for example) and at least one herbivorous member (pandas)

I never did specify the Platta type, but I imagine them closer to mammals than amphibians. While they do fish and can swim, I imagined it quite weak in ability. They are also omnivores in case that needs to be known. Also, I didn't know that last part.
