Everything is AI because plagiarism is profitable and because people think weโ€™re in a dark age where skills like art and writing havenโ€™t been democratized to hell and back for decades already

I invented necromancy and the windmill. I beat the sun in a poker match during the summer of 1273 and God hasn't felt the same since.

โ€Cool it, Sparky.โ€ She halfway barked at Danny when he started yapping like dog who hadnโ€™t gotten a treat yet. Dorian just disappeared, and then so did the new kid. Fantastic. Wait- There they were. Did Dorian just accidentally yank the kid with his powers in some kind of gay panic? Leah wouldnโ€™t have been surprised. Not one bit. โ€Get back here, Dorian.โ€ She couldnโ€™t see him, so he probably went- Wait a damn minute.

โ€You have a brother? Huh.โ€ Leah didnโ€™t really pay enough attention to Diana in any fashion to know much about her. โ€Okay- Well. Cool. You should tell your sister to get a personality sometime. No one else has had any luck with that so far.โ€ She told Percy in an attempt to lighten the mood. Did a mood need to be lightened after a kid almost got incinerated? Probably.

โ€Nameโ€™s Leah. Youโ€™re probably kind of okay if April likes you. Donโ€™t worry, we only light people on fire to initiate them.โ€ She was very clearly joking, but her tone wasnโ€™t really the joking type. Maybe she was serious. Maybe she wasnโ€™tโ€ฆ The world may never know. Leah walked over and threw a big, muscled arm over Aprilโ€™s shoulder. โ€You never told me you were planning on burning a freshie alive on day one. You turning evil or something?โ€

This would be a weird friend group dynamic, Leah thought. April was arguably Leahโ€™s closest friend, and she apparently knew Dianaโ€™s younger brother. If Leah and the kid got along, maybe Diana would quit being so cocky? Noโ€ฆ Probably not, actually. Then again, the kid did seem like he had a bit of her attitude. It was almost funny seeing him bark like a chihuahua when Big Sister Novikova worried about protecting him, and when Leah just asked who he was.

"I'm gonna be working late tonight. Two of the editors quit last week so we're getting swamped." The voice over the phone said.

"That's okay. I don't know when I'll be home, either." Marie held the phone in one hand, and loaded bullets into an empty magazine with the other.

"Today's the day, huh?"

"Yeah. I've got to do this, it's personal."

"I know. It's okay, really. As long as you come home to me safe, I trust."

She smiled on her end of the call. "I know I never talk about him, but he was important. The closest thing to a father I had."

"That's really sweet, Marie. I hope you'll tell me more when we both get home. He sounds like he was nice."

"He was..." There was a loud clicking noise as Marie slid the magazine into a pistol. "I need to go, I'll see you in the morning, Nat."

"Be careful for me, okay?" Natalie asked in her usual worrying tone.

"Always."

Conveniently enough, Marie's office wasn't far from the police station. It was only 5 minutes away by car, and Marie quickly made her way inside. In her pocket was the note she somehow received at her door recently. Fraud cases were a common thing she dealt with, but this just didn't add up. Situations that escalated far enough for these accusations to be true tended to result in actual police officers arriving on the scene. Marie believed she would be able to remember something like that happening, especially if she was there. And yet, despite going through all of her records dating back to the start of her career, she found nothing. Either it was fake, or something else was in play here. The odds of her crossing paths with the Morse Code Killer, years before their appearances, and allegedly knew their father? They were slim odds, and the safer bet was that this was just a trick to fool her and her new coworkers.

But still, if it was true... Why was he there unarmed?

Marie eventually found her way to the place she needed to go. The room wasn't exactly inviting, but nothing showed on her face when she took a seat. She crossed her arms and waited for others to arrive.
I may try to post later today or tomorrow, weโ€™ll see. Iโ€™ve been busy lately so I might be slow

I havenโ€™t been able to do much posting lately but Iโ€™ll try to get something out tonight or tomorrow.

If I canโ€™t Iโ€™ll let you know and you guys might need to go on without me. I donโ€™t wanna lag people behind.

Sorry, yโ€™all. No dice. Ainโ€™t got the brainpower to come up with anything and I donโ€™t wanna hinder the vibe so Iโ€™m gonna have to respectfully step out.
