Setting

Hundreds of Years Before the Birth of Avatar Aang...

Water.
Earth.
Fire.
Air.

For years, the four peoples have lived in harmony, balanced by the eye of the Avatar. But things are changing. Twenty years ago, Avatar Er passed away, assassinated by the cruel Earth warlord An, who has united the scattered Earth people for the first time in history. Our people awaited the return of the Avatar, but he never came. Many a brave man has gone in search of him or her, but those men often go missing, never to return. It seems as if someone wants the Avatar to stay hidden. Things must change, someone must find the Avatar and restore balance.

The world of Avatar has evolved over its long history, and in the early days of the Earth Kingdom, when few of the four nations have united, is far different from the times of Aang and Korra. The Air Nomads still wander among their many mountainous temples, but the men of the Fire Islands have yet to renounce their spirituality and take up their militant stance.

Above all, the world is a far less united and far more dangerous place, even the Avatar may find it difficult to ensure peace in such a turbulent time.

If the Avatar is to be found, there needs to be drive, determination, and the spirit to turn adversity into success.

But most of all, there needs to be hope.

OOC Information

So this is my interest check for an Avatar roleplay, kinda says that in the title. This RP is set hundreds of years prior to the beginning of the show, so that means a few restrictions, but one big one especially.

NO METAL/COMBUSTION/BLOOD/ENERGYBENDING

These Four bending techniques are either discovered, rediscovered or invented during the time-span of the shows, and thus will not be used.

I know it's kinda lame, but most of our characters wouldn't be using these techniques anyway. Which brings us to...

ADVANCED BENDING TECHNIQUES

Your lightning and your lava. These techniques are incredibly difficult to achieve, and your character will not be able to start having mastered them, perhaps over the course of the RP, but not at the beginning. Remember that throughout history, these techniques were usually achieved by a very select few, hell, there are two airbenders in the history of the world to attain unaided flight, and three of the known five lavabenders were Avatars.

Speaking of Avatars...

YOU WILL NOT BE PLAYING AS THE AVATAR

The entire point of the RP is to find the Avatar, so playing as him or her would kinda destroy my whole plot.

That's all for me being a buzzkill. Any questions about the setting will be answered if you ask.

Let's do some adventuring!
@Storybookandco@KatherinWinter
Daniel made an inquisitive noise from the back of his throat as he examined the four kids under the effect of some kind of spell. He stared at them a moment, watching the unnatural glow that surrounded them.

"Yeah," he said with a sigh. "I'll take care of them."

He pulled a bottle of black powder out of his jacket and strode into the crowd, carefully pushing his way through the clueless amount of students, faculty, and others. He popped the lid of the powder and spread it over his hands with a clap.

A thick haze of smoke began to appear around him and the four.

'This spell,' he recalled. 'Is able to cut any magical connections that exist without the necessity of seeing the spell-caster, it's pretty easy to counter, but it's also pretty hard to detect, to any outsiders it simply looks like the people inside the cloud had just disappeared.'

Just in case one of the men inside the circle had been the one to cast it, he spread the smoke around each of the four men, keeping their faces visible.

He pulled out his own memory eraser device and flashed it at the four, repeating word-for-word what Jericho had said to the crowd before.

Well, almost word for word.

"You understand me ya mooks? Yeah, now you get it. Also, this smoke haze? You were smoking dope, don't do that again, trust me."

After finishing that, he dispelled the haze with a wave of his arms. He turned back towards Jericho and offered him a thumbs up, beginning to make his way through the crowd once more.

Daniel nodded curtly at Curwen's instructions.

"Let's get started then, my scrying instruments shouldn't be long," he said while walking over to Jericho. He pulled out his neuralizer and addressed the gathering crowd.

"Everyone, no reason to be alarmed, we just need a few moments of your time, that's all. As soon as we are done you may return to whatever you were doing beforehand," he said authoritatively. He began scanning the area for any witnesses who were holding cameras or anything of the sort, footage of them getting posted would take quite some time to clean up. Noticing one, he snapped his fingers and pointed at the man's phone, causing it to glow slightly. The man looked at him in confusion and perhaps a bit of fear. "Delete any recordings or pictures please, trust me," he instructed in a stern voice.

He looked over at Jericho and gestured him onwards.

"Let's take care of this as soon as possible."
Oh hi
@Storybookandco@SpawnMeme@Bluetommy@KatherinWinter

"Man for fuck's sake," Daniel cursed as Curwen informed him that the demon was long gone. The mission had ended before it had began. What kind of band of thieves and murderers were they running here? "Alright, my idea is for one or two of you to return to base and see if you can get that kid fired, some of us need to stay here and secure the school before the police get here. I'll see if I can fetch my scrying mirror, see if I can track him down using that. Curwen, I'm gonna need to ride bitch with you when we move unless anyone else wants my pungent chemical odor in their car," he suggested quickly, jogging a short distance from the school.

He pulled a bottle of red powder from his jacket and drew a circle on the back of his left hand. He held it stationary as he placed the other hand to his mouth and whistled, causing a flurry of feathers as Russel sprouted from his hand as if he had been stored within. He sent Russel off with a trilled whistle; signifying to the bird that he needed his scrying supplies.

Scrying was a less than reliable way of discovering things, but it would work in a pinch. He quickly returned to the school and drew his firearm.

"Secure and make them forget, as usual."
@Gentlemanvaultboy

Russel flew back to Daniel's waiting arm, having seen nothing. He still made a point of crowing with a grave intensity that none but Daniel could sense. Daniel scowled as he ran a finger under the bird's chin, making his way over to where Curwen was quickly taking charge of the situation. Made sense, he was the most senior of all of them. The kid's attempts to make himself seem important were embarrassing if he was honest, though his own method of transportation could be seen in a similar way. He hadn't had much time to set up a true teleportation spell, so he had to make do with a much less subtle ritual. As a consequence, it was far louder and flashier than a simpler method that would be, but there wasn't much to be done about that.

Russel's growing worry had an effect on Daniel's own mental state. He made a noise with his lips and tossed Russel into the air with a move of his arm. The bird shot off into the sky, ready to be recalled at any time.

He stood next to Curwen, projecting a much more traditional government agency look with his dress suit over most everyone else on site's more conservative attire. He watched as the kid pushed his way through the gate.

"Good lord," he growled out in a resigned voice. "Should I follow?" he asked Curwen in a hushed tone. He'd rather not have to deal with the paperwork of losing an agent so soon into a mission. "I'd be more than willing to yank him out if we need more time."
@KatherinWinter I'm still here, I was asleep when you all picked up again. I'll write something later on today
@Storybookandco@SpawnMeme Daniel turned to the peanut gallery in Jericho Song, who had commented on how this was supposed to be a discreet operation.

Daniel chuckled warmly but quickly returned to his natural grim facial expression.

"They're all discreet until you open the door. Witchcraft isn't exactly suited to discretion anyway," he commented, opening his jacket and producing a vial of orange liquid. "One free potion of intoxication to everybody once we're done here!" he said with a smirk as he held the booze above his head to demonstrate, before hiding it back in his jacket.

He hadn't brewed very much for this mission as he hadn't much time to do so; it was quite the sudden call, but he had stolen some holy water from the Church as soon as he got it. With a demon on the loose a vial would come in handy. Of course holy water dampened his own powers; witchcraft was the Devil's art, so it only made sense that it would be weakened by the devil's worst enemy.

He looked over at the arriving hooded agent. He didn't recognize the fellow, so he had to be a new recruit. He seemed to have a map of some sort, though he wasn't currently using it.

"I wouldn't have the slightest idea, but I do have a bird up there, so if you see anything be sure to let me know and I can take a closer look."
A crow's call echoed through the air as a circle of flame appeared upon the ground. It burned brightly for only a moment before vanishing, leaving a black ink pentagram in its wake.

Daniel walked out of the pentagram a moment after, wearing an unlabeled bulletproof vest on top of a white dress shirt. On top of that he wore a black suit jacket. Strapped to his back was a H&K UMP sub-machine gun; it seemed like he was armed for bear, as he was wont to do in situations such as this.

Someone had managed to summon a demon, an exceptionally dangerous task even for the most elder of witches; Satan's servants were not exceptionally kind to even his followers. He would at least be able to cripple the monster's magical abilities, though a demon's strength was not them alone.

Daniel smirked as he heard Archie's announcement of his dramatic entrance. He didn't say anything, but he knew to himself that he had blown the poor kid out of the water.

He tapped the bird on his shoulder, causing Russel to shake his head before flying over the school grounds.

"An abrupt start to the mission I must admit, but I suppose I might as well make myself useful and see what I can see."
