@Calle, thank you for your review! My grammar was not great, and I do have an addiction to being passive (not just in writing). Albeit, the story was written in roughly ten (10) or so days and was a rush job. (I'm still not sure if that is a valid reason or not.) I tried my best to go through it and did not do a very good job -- in more than several aspects.

Spoiler

The ending is actually that Matthias says, "No," and the memory of the dream lives on repeat somewhere in the recollections of Cassie's mind. She is asking him to die as so he can live with her in the Spirit Realm, but he decides not to say, "Yes," since it would be to his traditional principals some sort of suicide, hence why his name is Matthias, the name of the Apostle who took Judas' place in the Twelve Apostles of Jesus.

The story is actually an elaborate metaphor about a break-up between couple in which one is Catholic and one is Orthodox, and neither are willing to convert.

Wearing her absurdly, bulky mechanical suit usually gets D the most attention. However, she is not always dressed for the job, and on occasion, there probably has been some (poor) young chap or gal who might happen to have taken some sort of liking to her. Whether it was her athletically portrayed dark pigtails or that vacantly attentive stare -- no one is really too certain (maybe her body is toned nicely because otherwise, she's a Plain Jane), because she's usually off chasing some new whimsical adventure without much mind for random happen chances.

It is not that D feels badly for being in the business, especially since it is technically her family's business. However, her father's depression has gotten much worse in the past couple of years, and being away from him feels wrong. He is probably lonely, and instead of comforting him like a good daughter, she is busy being a career driven woman by running around in paranormal paradoxes. On the other hand, the business cannot simply go waste. There is too much meaning and reasoning behind it existing. She has a duty to uphold and while, sometimes it's hard to hold a smile on her face, especially with the automatically redundant reactions the "Uninformed" give her, it's rewarding in an abnormally, phenomenal way, and she would much rather have this life than that of a boring "Normie." The struggle is real, but she thinks she is handling it the best way possible: with a positive, straight-forward attitude. Duty is obligation, and her father should know this better than anyone else. He is the one who taught her this.

It was love at 100th+ sight for D's father and mother. Both had been working the field for a while and knew of each other for almost just as long. The story is not quite sure who caved first, but D likes to think they fell at the same time. She sees them as equals, both with their specialties and flaws. Neither are more loved or less favored. They are also all she truly knows, aside from herself and Aubrey. She has almost always known that parents are not around forever, especially when dealing with extraterrestrial experiences. The loss of her mother came more quickly than she had planned, but that was death. It is rarely a convenient thing, but the downfall of her father's mental state and physical state after the loss was not something she had expected. It makes her believe that maybe he fell first and was expecting to die first, too.

Aubrey is a rare breed of humans to D. She is the only person in all her life that has maintained a long distant friendship with her. D has had online acquaintances, but Aubrey is the one who never failed to be consistently in touch with her. Although, recently, she has been busy with her boyfriend and planning some future that seems to be far less romantic and fun than she and D had been daydreaming through snail mail letters, texting, and those sought after video chats. D wishes Aubrey could be part of the family business, and is sad to see her friend turning into another regular human. On the up side, D tells herself that at least Aubrey will not go missing like her mother has, which is comforting in its own way even if Aubrey might be replacing her with some boy, who she has not even had the chance to scout and approve, yet.

Running the family business as a freelance Professional Paranormal Investigator is a bit trickier with the odds and bits than D prefers, but the lifestyle is all she has ever known. She feels at home in her Mecha-GO suit, after all. Having been cradled and nurtured into the supernatural world, turning a blind eye to the paranormal would be considered living some sort of lie, void of reality. Her mind is conditioned to constantly wander and comb the atmosphere for the preternatural anomalies, and she has some cool gadgets and gizmos to help her find these metaphysical treasures.

D's pleasantly pleased with her abilities and even if she could turn away from the paranormal, she is not too sure her savvy nature would take her into a stable position with the Normies. She has a general sense of ease when it comes to being in near-death situations, which is due to mental and physical training, and she also has a high understanding of the current mechanisms at her disposal. Put all of this together, and D is under the impression that the only way her mindset and abilities could be put to good use in the Normie World is if she worked as a Secret Agent or something of that nature, but then she'd be working for the enemy... or one of them.

D is a fearless female. She can also roar, but usually she just zaps things since it's less noisy, not as provocative, and seemingly more congruent with whatever she is trying to do. With that said, she is focused, even if it is to the point of looking zany, which lands her in the creative, doodling outside of the lines zone. Rules are set forth for a reason, and they are broken for a reason. Only baddies and criminals break the rules for nothing. D is also under the impression that she can kick your ass if she wanted to, and even if she can't, what doesn't kill her only makes her stronger. It is safe to color her confident and courageous with a sprinkled side of carefree positivism.

With a weakness for not blending into the crowd, D has a pension for sticking out like a sore thumb, while also holding some wavering flamboyant flag of pride about it. She has a fear of being one of the Normies and prefers her social status to be as it is. Unfortunately or fortunately, she has a fairly genial disposition, which often times leads to people trying to make too friendly with her. She thinks of herself as too busy chasing the occult and not having any time or desire for friends. Her father wishes she would try to settle down and live a more normal lifestyle, but D knows better than to take his contradictory advice.

Her mother went missing several years ago during a mission, and D is dogged to find her, if she is even still alive. D would also like to grow the business, hirer some sidekicks employees and kick the freelancing gig for good. The higher agencies can be a hassle to bother, and they have these strange stipulations about keeping the public uninformed. It miffs her, but it is what she has right now. A more gigged out suit is in the books, as well... and a new laser gun.

But, what she really needs is some solid companionship. Currently, all she has is her father and her childhood bestie and long-time pen-pal, Aubrey. Aubrey is In-the-Know and also the only person who has ever been able to be D's friend in the course of all the humans that D has ever met. Unfortunately, Aubrey is headed to college this year, and she has little time to worry about paranormal activities. In fact, she wishes D would attend the same college as her or at least, move to the same state. They used to daydream about being roommates, but that dream died with the disappearance of D's mother. D finds it interesting and not so coincidental that Aubrey has also been less responsive to her messages since getting a boyfriend. There's nothing like paranormal investigations to fill the voids of loneliness, even if they are the cause of all the attachment issues, right?

It is obvious that some sort of paranormal activity is happening. D has several hypothesis on the subject and is extremely excited to get down to business. She has the specs of her goggles bidding on some ancient lands and occult practices tying into the indigenous people and some sort of otherworldly realm that feels it's rights have been infringed due to some local or federal activity.

Seeing D settle down, be more conscientious, learn a bit of empathy for others, and make friends would be nice. She holds rosy-colored lenses for the paranormal and has not a clue how to comprehend the way a person who is new to the truth is feeling. She also has little regard for her father's current emotions and opinions and almost sees him as weak for having fallen into a depression. Call her detached or a little afraid of getting hurt, the girl still needs to see reality from both sides of the coin, lest she begin hurting the people around her -- because she's not the only protagonist running around in the world. Several years ago, her mother went missing during an investigation. D believes her mother is still out there, while her father holds a much more morbid approach. Her father fell into a deep depression, and to keep afloat he registered himself as a certified alcoholic, complete with foul breath and fits of rage. He is usually more depressed than angry, though. D gives him leeway, even if she thinks he is taking the easy-way out. On occasion, her father will get into a drunken fit about how his wife was taken from him by the FBI or some conspiracy thing, like his small-privately owned paranormal agency was a threat to the big guys. D thinks her mother is trapped in another dimension or world, but she keeps a fly on her ear for any tinfoil hat, boiler room talk just in case.

I do have to ask though: what is the actual reason for the suit as opposed to the normal paranormal investigation equipment (is there an advantage to having heavy armor?) and what exactly is this equipment capable of ... and why? Did I see a mention of laser guns?? Explain plz? xD

D's laser gun is more so in reference to Ghostbusters Universe's proton guns, which shall not be destroying buildings, and her suit is not just a Mecha-Paranormal Hazmat Suit Carry-All but also a protective armor that shields her as she transports through energy fields, toxic environments, artificial conditioning, navigation, communication abilities, and above all else, the ability to beat up any potential dangerous monstrosities.

Actually, I am mistaken. It is just a Mecha-Paranormal Hazmat Suit Carry-All. Ho hum.

Edit: She also gets night vision and evp recorders and et cetera with the suit.
