Woohoo! Does that mean we can put our CSes in the character tab?

Avery had a hard time keeping themselves from laughing, but they managed. Sidney was clearly playing a prank on them. Either that or the kid just had an active imagination. But then again, didn’t all urban legends come from people with active imaginations? They let themselves ponder the question for a moment. These Manotaurs sounded straight out of a kids’ cartoon, and Avery wouldn’t have been surprised if that’s where it had come from. Even thinking about them made them want to laugh. They’d have to look it up later to corroborate Sidney's claims.

Despite their inner laughter, Avery managed to keep a straight face throughout Sidney’s spiel, nodding along and taking notes. There was no point in making the poor girl feel stupid.

Their eyes lit up at the prospect of being taken to meet the Manotaurs. “You’ll take me to see them? In the forest?” They leaned forward, interested. While it wasn’t wise to follow some teenagers into what appeared to be a prank, the experience would be invaluable… hm. The forests around these parts were said to be dangerous, and it was unwise to go in without a local guide. They’d brought hiking boots in anticipation of a walk through the forest, but to have local guides would certainly be ideal. They could see where all these legends came from firsthand. The idea made their heart beat a little faster, excitement staving off exhaustion.

Well. Hopefully, you won’t be ax-murdered by teenagers. At least Sidney didn’t seem the ax-murderer type. “I’d love that!’ they said, chipper as can be. “Give me a moment, though- I’ll need to slip on my hiking boots and get some coffee before we go. I'll give you your fifteen after, plus an extra ten if you're a good guide and don't knock me unconscious and leave me in a ditch.” With a wink, Avery ended the recording. They dug a travel mug and some boots out of their duffel, set the mug on the counter, signaled the waitress over to fill it, and disappeared to the bathroom to change into more appropriate shoes for a hike.

@dreamingflowers Might be a bit of a tough squeeze (next week is my busiest), but I think I have an idea and will try to work on it this weekend!

As for the mentor thing, I just don't know a lot of DC characters. I don't really have much of an idea for an original character mentor, but we'll see. I'll research the canon characters, though!
@dreamingflowers When do you guys think that applications will end up closing? I'm making steady progress on my CS, but it's probably not gonna be up for a while because finals week.

I have a question, too! Do the mentors have to be canon DC characters?

The waitstaff served Avery their Hungry Man’s Special only 20 minutes after they had ordered it- remarkable service, they thought. Small towns had always had the best hospitality, and Gravity Falls was no exception. They smiled at the waitress and dug in. The plate consisted of three pancakes, two scrambled eggs, three pieces of bacon, two pieces of sausage, and hashbrowns. Plus the coffee that Avery had ordered. Even if they didn’t finish, it would be great for leftovers.

Just as they were starting to dig in, however, a commotion sounded behind them. They turned around, expecting one person, but instead got two. An amused smile bloomed on their face as they saw what was happening, though. This goth girl (looking very heavily made up, mind) shoved aside another kid who she deemed “a tourist” and boosted herself onto the seat next to Avery. They laughed. They could remember their own goth days, and, recalling that period of their life, decided to give her the Hot Topic gift card in their wallet.

Come back after her,” they mouthed to Ludwig- even if he was a tourist, he might still know something- and turned to Sid, cutting them off in the middle of a ramble. “Morning! I’m so happy you came up, I love interviewing. Before we start, though, let me introduce myself. My name’s Avery Washington and I’m a doctoral student of sociology at the University of Michigan. I’m studying urban legends in the American Northwest, which includes Gravity Falls! Do you consent to be recorded in this interview? I’ll give you fifteen bucks1” They winked.

Once Sid said yes, Avery switched on an archaic-looking tape recorder and placed it on the bar. “There we go. Lovely, lovely. Now, you were saying something about Manotaurs? Is that possibly related to the ancient Greek legend of the Minotaur? Please explain that to me. But- wait, I'm sorry. I got ahead of myself. State your full name and then start talking.” They leaned forward on their elbows, clearly interested, although 90% sure this tiny goth girl was bullshitting them.

I've really been wanting to do a space opera roleplay lately. Something in the "motley crew journeys around space" subgenre. Sort of cliché, but I've been craving it.
