It's not really cold until it hits, like, 20 F. And even that's gentle. It hit -14 F once.

Bio

I'm a generally chill gremlin that can be kinda particular. I grew up with plenty of electronics and video games, mostly with games like Final Fantasy, Zelda, and StarCraft. I like to blend magic and technology in my writing, bringing fantasy into space and sci-fi.

Niara Rootwick

~ The Sky ~

A tree broke through a cloud. No, a ship? Two large crystal growths jutted out to the back from underneath, each angled to either side and down, and earth and roots stretched forward to form a hull, with elegant metal sculpted to look like roots forming reinforcement. Island birds could be heard chirping, and seen flitting about in the branches, little critters skittered about in the soil and on the decks, many of them pets. The ship typically flew at island heights, resulting in a livable place for island flora and fauna. On the bridge, located in the canopy, was a very pleased captain.

The Song of Roses Blooming had never felt so good to fly before! What had that engineer done?! She was responsive and powerful, flying as though a great smog had been lifted and what had been a struggle to just breathe was suddenly as effortless as it should be. That woman could ask him to take her anywhere he wanted, after this! So..

“Hey, Niara, where exactly are you going, again?” Why were all his instruments kinda wacky right now? And why was she strapped very securely with all her things and some kind of.. plant-contraption strapped to her back? With the way the woman had fixed the ship, he had no doubt the woman could grow just about anything.

“It’s right around here, actually. I think.. yes, this is good. I’ll be going now. Fair trades and calm skies. Oh, and before you worry, it’s a parachute. I’ll be fine.” The elven woman gave the captain a smile and wave before she turned and ran out into the canopy, to the back of the ship.

“Niara?!” She was going to sky dive?!

She’d done this before. It wasn’t an uncommon way of going from island to island. At least, not for certain people, like Niara. When she couldn’t be bothered to wait for a ferry, she’d dive to an island below, if she needed to go there for something. Usually some kind of upkeep that needed to be done. That said, she’d never dove this far previously. The islands tended to be a little closer to each other than the captain’s sailing height and the ground below.

Oh well, she’d already jumped. She fanned out her arms and legs to more enjoy the ride down, taking a moment to look about and appreciate the scenery around her. When the ground below started to seem a bit close, she triggered the growth of the plants on her back, their roots wrapped around her body and nestled into many pockets of fertilized soil. With a bit of magic to help, the plants sprouted large, flat leaves, stemmed at either end, that ballooned out above her and pulled her up, counter to the piled up momentum of gravity. She pulled on them lightly to steer herself as she took in the extremely diverse landscape surrounding the plain grasslands below her feet. Incredible. That such a place would exist in the center of it all, this calm weather couldn’t be normal, could it? She would expect eight different climes to almost.. war with each other, but this was extremely calm. Her eyes honed in on a hamlet below. The hamlet. Maybe it was normally calm here. How else would any structures get built?

She knew where to aim for, at least. She dipped a little faster through the air as she steered herself, zeroing in on the structures below. When, at last, her feet touched the ground again, she rolled and then lay flat on the earth beneath her, out of breath but grinning. “Woooo-” gasp, “ooooow.” breath, “longest I’ve,” inhale, “fallen yet. Whoo! Haaah. Heeeuuww.” A few seconds passed before she sat up, and then got to her feet, looking up and spotting the ship, sailing away through the skies. ”Aah, there he goes. Ooh, I do good work.”
Alright, time to pick a color.
Yumeiko no Akame no Kami

Location: Building #1; Room 407
Interactions: Miyuki @Xaltwind, Borkus @Dragonydas
Mentions: None

Miyuki’s playful retaliation was cut short by another reminder of the time of day. She’d been giggling and protesting and pressing into her lover when the body behind her suddenly flopped down with drama. The spirit fox kept herself upright and watched the kyuubi with a wry smile before finding herself grasped again and met with the demand for food. ”Alas, even so much love cannot fill an empty stomach. A shame.”

For once, Miyuki was the one leading the charge somewhere. Yumeiko found herself being brought along behind the elder fox. This sort of situation meant things were dire, indeed.

The cafeteria seemed to be particularly crowded that evening. At least, she hoped this was busier than normal. There was that woman that had passed by herself and Ryū that afternoon - thankfully, she’d found a change of clothes. There were some residents she’d seen that afternoon, but not met. She noticed quickly the same aura from the lobby- ooh, was that the source of the stench? She hadn’t caught it before, had she been upwind? It seemed almost too powerful to be blown away, but that was silly. Right? Right.

Yumeiko took Miyuki’s arm and clung to it, hearing the tension from the other as the kyuubi noticed what she considered to be offensive presences. When she noticed the cursed woman from that morning, the spirit fox nestled up against it to draw the other’s attention to more pleasant things, but it seemed as though Miyuki was already of the same mind. The elder’s stomach was a powerful motivator, after all.

Before she could answer the question posed to her of their meal, the chef came forward, himself. He seemed a humble sort, though he clearly took pride in his art. The slightest gasp escaped her nostrils at the delivery of the news - dire news, indeed. Miyuki was terribly hungry, it wouldn’t do to disappoint her. “Your fridge.. and all that food? Oh, how awful! That all your effort went to waste like that.. It sounds like you really went to great lengths to prepare a meal we would love.” Were her circumstances stronger, perhaps her Goddess could provide, but.. what about that cursed woman? She had to be careful if she wanted to throw around sacred powers or divine favors.

She smiled softly for the chef, giving Miyuki’s hip a little squeeze as the chef and his assistant gave their pledges, “We look forward to your promised meal, dear chef. Miyuki was just telling me she’s heard great things about you. She won’t forgive you if they aren’t true, at this point.” Yumeiko offered a teasing grin, glancing at her lover.

”Aah, but that leaves us with what to eat now. No meat, or dairy, or eggs.. oh dear.” They really did like eating perishable foods, didn’t they? ”How about a good fried rice? Or perhaps a curry? Miyuki?” The blondie turned her attention to the dark fox and put a hand on her back, rubbing lightly.

”Oh, it’s no trouble. I’d rather it not go to waste, right?” Trinity smiled, glad to see that Evangeline genuinely appreciated the meal. As the other mage posed a question, the musician had herself a seat. ”My maker magic?” Trinity watched Evangeline for just a moment. She’d hushed her voice, suddenly. The minstrel lowered her voice similarly, “ah, yeah. I don’t usually run into magics that look like it, so I’m not surprised you don’t recognize it. It moulds energy. There’s almost always some kind of ambiance around, so it’s real easy to use in most places.”

She looked Evangeline over for a moment and shot at glance at Matthew, “yourself? Unlike the man you came in with, your magic doesn’t seem as apparent.” As she spoke, she eyed the meal she’d offered to Evangeline thoughtfully. She still hadn’t figured out what to call the meal she actually wanted in Pergrande. Different places had different names for popular dishes, and the name that had worked for her so far had failed here.

”Mm, before you answer. I think I know what name to order. There’s an old story about how the recipe came about. Maybe an old name will work.” She took a breath and projected her voice for the chef to hear, ”chef, an order of lost bread!” She settled back into her seat and turned her attention back to Evangeline, "with any luck. So, your magic?"
Eeh. I can do without the woodmending. I kinda just tossed that in 'cause it seemed to mesh well. Split the remaining two effects and there we have it.
I'm gonna sit down and finish it up now, I think.

Lemme just... vibe with some crystal chronicles soundtrack and really get in the zone.
I load delivery trucks, at present. I'm gonna start breaking their door down to lemme in to data science.
