Hi hi. I have a character!
Scritch scritch scratch. Sophie has extendable claws that she can use to scratch at whoever bothers her. However, it’s not just whoever, but whatever. With the claws comes the temptation to scratch at something, to just rip at something. She can control that urge, but oh boy, is it tempting just to drag those claws through that pillowcase.
As light as a cat, with footsteps to match, Sophie is often very quiet with her movements, often receiving the joke that she should wear a bell so people can hear her coming easier. The lightness does not just apply to footfalls, but to actual falls; she can drop from a considerable height without hurting herself, so long as she lands correctly. But if you could fall from a cliff and live, would you jump? She certainly wouldn’t.
Sophie, due to her extra set of ears, has hearing better than most. As these ears are pointed forward, the hearing is typically much better from the front, is still better from the sides, but is, although still beneficial, not as efficient from behind. The problem with this extra hearing is that loud things can get very loud. If something was purposefully loud for the intent of mistreating her, then that would not bode well.
Meow? Sophie can communicate with animals and understand them, having a natural understanding of even new animals’ languages and speech patterns. With this knowledge, she can effectively manipulate animals into doing her bidding - when she wants to, that is. At the same time, this means that she hears their insults. Rude.
Sophie is able to turn into a feline at will. Sometimes she will do it for comfort, sometimes for fun. There will even be days where she’d rather just spend time as a cat than as herself. Her cat form is a black furred, white footed kitty, and she can’t turn into anything else.
A one in a gazillion chance as an experiment said never to work, students were surprised to find that they had managed to merge a human egg with a cat’s sperm and had gotten them to connect. A surrogate mother for the egg carried it all the way until the child within was born - and then like an unwanted cat, was thrown away to fend for itself. And that she did, young Sophie fending for herself. The Safe Haven was exactly that in Sophie’s eyes - a Safe Haven. A place for her to live that wasn’t the streets, a place for her to grow.
