Well, I'm definitely impressed! I read through the 'general history' thread and looked over the Periplus and Britannia ones and the degree of worldbuilding is staggeringly dense (which I say as a compliment). While I like to call myself a bit of a history buff and know at least the bare bones of much of what you touch upon in the aforementioned links, you thoroughly blow me out of the water, which is actually kind of exciting when you're used to being one of the few people with any in-depth knowledge of these subjects. Have you ever been to alternatehistory.com? Because this is exactly the sort of thing I would expect to find there.

Anyway, I did some snooping and it seems you've tried to run something like this before prior to "Guildfall"? I didn't see any mention of a sudden influx of fantastical races or any historical background on magic in that version, though. Are those new additions for this attempt?

I typically enjoy the opportunity to brush up on the minutiae of different eras and cultures for RPGs, but I must admit I am a bit ambivalent about actually signing up. For the time being, I simply wanted to gush a bit and salute your ambitions.

I do have one question, however. Do you mean for the non-human races to be NPCs? I would certainly support going that route, but just wondering. Otherwise, it would seem you'd have to dedicate at least a fraction of the same detail to their cultures and histories in order to play them, which may be more than even you're up for outlining (then again, maybe not).
No idea. Maybe inquire in Suggestions/Problems?
Okay, so since we're in need of some ideas, maybe we can start off small with a pirate "job." Raiding a merchant ship with some costly goods they're transporting, maybe?

If we don't want to have our PCs slaughtering innocents (at least right off the bat), they might find the merchant crew all sick, dying/dead, or even see them being attacked and decide to intervene (before they rob the poor saps blind).

Then maybe the pirates discover they were carrying some dubious cargo; a cursed item, a rare monster, etc.
Well, you'd already seemed to have made up your mind about it. At least for my part, I was trying to mitigate your concerns. But no reason to stick around if it's not your bag. Good luck to you elsewhere. ;)
I imagine tech availability will be all over the map for a game about a world reorganized following some flood of Biblical proportions. So it's unlikely every enemy we face would have guns, only some. That just means things will be varied and we'd have to change up tactics depending on the situation.

I see no problem here.
Something like a basic flintlock seems in keeping with a pirate setting, no?
I think I'd want the original races to be run past me first, but I'm certainly open to them.

I'm almost considering having one character be the boat itself, basically one of those Anchor Spirits from the article that I linked higher up. Boat has no actual pilot at the wheel, the boat steers itself. Sometimes it's even kind enough to tell the crew where they're going.

Of course. I can send some blurbs on them via PM in a little bit.

Ah, interesting idea. Somewhat reminiscent of the King of Red Lions from the Zelda Wind Waker game? I haven't played, but it was what first came to mind (also Farscape, sorta). If that's the case, probably don't need a bosun then, unless he's some dedicated caretaker and gofer or something. Doctor's still an option. Some kind of fussy dwarven merchant also amuses me. But I'm not settled on any specific character idea yet.
Well, I enjoy 'Waterworld'-type settings and have been thinking about/looking for one lately, so color me interested. ^_^

I don't want to make any waves or rock the boat (it's okay, you can groan and throw fruit at me), so can I ask if any original races are allowed? No problem if not, just curious.

I have a favorite 'bosun' I like to use for this sort of thing, as well as a ship's doctor I haven't properly used. Both humans. I could also pull out or make some characters from a few other races I have filed away (see question above). If new PCs are preferred, that's fine, too.

I've also got some rough nation ideas, if any are needed. I like the arrangement that's been worked out so far, though.
You could just, y'know, let consenting adults make their own mistakes. Raise your objections, then let nature take its course. He may be your father, but it's not your problem.
I'm going to have to bow out, guys. I'd like it if I didn't receive any more group PMs, if that's possible. Sorry for the inconvenience and enjoy your game! ;)
