Hello!

I'm Pollen, hope you're not allergic. I like writing a myriad of characters in all kinds of genres, so I'm pretty much down for anything roleplay-wise.

Come talk with me if you want! I'm friendly.

If you read the post, he states that it 'shoved off with its tail and both arms.' It was obviously moving itself with significant force, not simply sliding to one side. The other thing is, it supposedly lands two yards to the mech's right, which seems a bit far for just a fall. Last but not least, who/what in their right mind would fall off something when they could jump?

Part of the reason you even have me around is to get an impartial reader for all this, and when I first read that action, before any of this mess went down, it seemed pretty obvious to me that it was effectively jumping. Perhaps not majestically, but I've already made it clear that it didn't need go particularly high to get clear.

Also, you earlier said:

I said it would have had to pass over the pauldron to clear itself off the Mech, impeding its progress and revealing which direction the Pater jumped off.

Which leads me to believe you had a good idea of what Doc meant to say.

As for hitting the Pater... I see a few ways this could potentially be done, but to try and give you hints would be cheating. I'll just say that, based on a previous experience, it doesn't seem impossible to me at all.
What jump?

I seem to recall it moving from being basically on top of the mech to landing on the bone-covered ground to its right. The movement was described as a "lunge," which is a little unclear, but the same post made it obvious that the Pater was in 'midair,' making it clear enough that it was a jump.
The lantern shield, AKA the uber-buckler 2000.

Not shown here: the attached lantern that you could throw in your opponent's face to blind them!
Tricky one here. Technically, having the Pater effectively knock into something on its way out, which in this case proves to be a critical mistake, is an auto of the character... on the other hand, the pauldron is clear on the reference picture, and Doc Doctor did ignore it completely, and similar situations would result in viable hits (e.g. someone walking into a magic circle).

I'm with Doc on this one, though. Technically, Melon would have been justified in writing that the Pater knocked against something if a) he had prepped in some manner (for instance, in the post where he slammed back into the wall, he might have described shifting his right arm into a position that would make the pauldron a greater obstruction), or b) if it had been a very obvious obstacle (something the Pater would have trouble getting over). In either case, if Doc had ignored it, that would have been an oversight on his part. However... based on the reference picture and the size of the mech (and a couple of handy measurements), it ain't that big. Heck, I could probably jump over it myself, if for some reason I found my frail human self trying to get off the mech. Essentially, Melon's argument is viable in theory, but in practice the pauldron is too small to be plausible as an obstruction, and thus having the Pater essentially crash into it (a mere brush would be difficult to 'feel' from inside the mech, unless it has pressure sensors or something like that) is pretty much assuming it's hella weak and/or lazy.

Tldr; the Pater makes its jump unobstructed.
To be fair, it's not always possible to anticipate exactly how busy one will be... Though it has been a while.

Also, we're looking for an edit rather than a post right now, just in case anyone was getting that mixed up.
No. Just no to everything.

Also what needs validating?

Well, looks like the gun debate has ceased and I don't need te additional points I was going to make. XD

It could be funny in a dark humor way if I come in with a high powered character who gets one shot by a pistol.

"Nooooo! My only weakness, bullets! How did you know?"
Just going to drop in a comment here.

I've fought with and against guns and gun-like weapons, both on the low and high ends of the power scale, and it is possible to deal with them in all circumstances, provided you and your opponent can be reasonable about things.

One way is to have some means of blocking them. Making a character immune to bullets or fast enough to dodge them would be too strong for mild-powers fights, but there can be stuff that defends against them. An enchanted shield, for instance, could work to deflect them, while not providing an absolute defense. I had one character who was essentially a big strong lizard-man, who relied on his scaly skin for protection... his scales weren't tough enough to take bullets in most areas, but the ones on his back were far tougher and had bony plates similar to a crocodilian, and so when he went down on all fours and kept his head low, most bullets would simply ricochet off his back.

The other way of handling things is by considering aim. I actually got involved in a a fight recently between two unpowered humans dueling with guns in an obstacle-laden warehouse. You'd think this would be over in an instant, since whichever character caught the other out of cover first would immediately win- but my opponent and I agreed that we'd take aim into consideration: a sudden shot at long range would not hit any vital organs, and would have a chance of missing entirely. To land a lethal shot, we needed to either ambush the enemy and fire from up close, or figure out their location and line up a shot, while somehow ensuring the enemy didn't know they were being targeted.

So IMO anything can work really, so long as both players willing to bend the rules a little if necessary.
@DLL I have like 40 usable sheets, another 30 or so that need rewriting, and somewhere around 240 other character sheets that don't even exist but are memorized in my brain.

That's enough characters to fill an anime series...
@Drifting Pollen

Can you drop by now and then to keep us on the straight and narrow? As you can probably tell, Melon and I make for a combustive mix.

Honestly, from what I've seen, Melon and anyone makes for a combustive mix :P Nothing wrong with that, a few quibbles aren't that big of a deal, so long as things don't get as messy as they did in the Majesty Tournament.

Regardless, I've been reading this fight for fun anyways, so I'll be keeping up with things :) If you two want my humble opinions on anything else, I'll do my best to oblige, so long as I have the time and/or willpower!
