Took me 10 years to realize antagonists are way more fun to write.

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

Aw. :)

Alright, little update. There's maybe one more round left in my collab with Days and Angel before it's posted. Ideally should be completed and up in the next few days. So we will have some content soon. <3

How was everyone's holidays?
Let me know if anything needs to be changed in my post!

Hildegunde gave a small nod as Ciara sat beside her. Encouraged, Ciara tilted her head. Her voice was low, softly speaking. "I have a feeling you and I are more similar than what we lead on. You can try to make a barrier, and I will break it."

The stronger bits of essence, the white little stars in Hildegunde's aura, flowed more naturally, without force, resistance, or cognitive routines. It made Ciara consider that Hildegunde's magic was likely primal in nature, but she'd have to see it activate in person to be sure.

"Or we could just Eat it." Came a cruel Voice in her mind.

"Shut up."

"It would be tasty chalk."

"Shut. Up."

Otis caught her gaze as he stepped up to the front of the class, and she leaned forward from her seat on the ground, looking up as he spoke. It was a somewhat lengthy explanation, and overly complicated. Is this really how other classes of magic interacted with essence? Is this really how the arcane did it?

How painful.

She watched the wind swirl around him, relieved somewhat that his convoluted methodology worked.

She paused for a moment, staring at him from her position near the center of the room on the floor, glancing at Hildegunde for her reaction, before speaking up.

"You're putting too much thought into something that should be just felt."

She fixed her eyes on Otis. She took a breath, and began to search the room with her awareness. "It's as simple as moving your awareness from your own body, to the the air, to the specks in the air."

That's when she noticed the slight increase in the temperature of the room. Puzzled, she pressed her awareness deeper, and found the essence that felt like the plants back in Vaal Kastrix becoming agitated. She tried to pull at it, to use it as her Personal Barrier. However, the essence wouldn't budge. Was it already programmed for something else?

She shrugged it off, instead delving her awareness deeper, moving from the air to beyond. A hidden place that felt like home.

"You reach out to what is connected to you, and draw it closer..."

Wind tickled through her hair, highlighted by the occasional streak of dark specks. It coalesced over her skin, little vortexes of colorless air that acted as a buffer. She demonstrated by trying to touch her finger to her palm, which was now impossible.

She held the form for a few moments, before releasing her held breath, and allowing the wind to collapse. It felt... refreshing, like moving muscles that never got worked. The air returned to normal; she looked up at Otis, smirked, and glanced over at Professor Alto, who was addressing the class. As he spoke about the rebound from Prime Essence, she swallowed nervously.

The air grew even hotter. Ciara reached out again with her awareness, feeling the essence move, more agitated now. Her eyes slid half-closed, noticing how it coalesced around the professor as a center. What was he up to?

"I've prepared a little exercise for all of you to partake in, so I'll give a few more minutes and then we'll see how you all adapt, okay? Nothing too serious, but a little bit of physical education never hurt anyone!"

Her eyes narrowed further, wholly focused on the essence of the room. The last time this school thought physical education was a good idea, students were beating each other for seats. The professor seemed nice, innocent, even. But this school was never what it seemed to be.

She glanced at Hildegunde, before her eyes rested on the professor.

"I'm ready."

Alizée Altieri

It was agony.

The strain of the darkness against the overwhelming heat and desert. The sands to choke the soul.

Tears mixed with sweat, screaming gasps as the canopy slowly gave way, sand seeping in like an hour glass. The bottom filling up.

She hyperventilated, taking a few last gasps before she could feel her strength almost entirely leave her-

Until.

A boon. Strength imbuing her hands, steeling her soul. Alizée recognized it in the haze of her fighting, adrenaline-filled mind. Bianca. It was her magic. But… how?

With renewed energy, she grit her teeth, the phantom hands pushing back against the immeasurable weight.

Everything was muffled from under the mountain. But even Alizée heard a distinct yell. A growl, something about assholes.

It sounded like the kid… but that was impossible.

He was dead because of her, wasn't he…?

The dizziness reached a new peak, derailing any further thoughts as the depletion of oxygen made its statement.

She was going to die here, wasn't she?

No, please-

Outside of the mountain, Void was staring at the two bikers with utter disgust.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck! What the fuck is that?!"
Spiky-haired woman

“Your worst nightmare, bitch.” He growled, shaking the sedan off his claw.

His confident smirk disappeared at the approaching wall of sand.

Alizée teetered between wakefulness and unconsciousness, her breaths weak, rapid and shallow. Before the sand shifted, and receded.

Bianca's powers almost immediately left Alizée as she rolled on her side, the phantom hands vaporizing into thin air. She gagged on air she tried desperately to get into her lungs. Stars danced in front of the Voidly visions in her eyes.

The temperature increased. The air burned as she tried to get her breath back. It hurt. Her lungs hurt. Her hands and elbows on the sweltering pavement hurt. Her head from the lack of air throbbed.

Everything hurt.

Then, a new hurt. Alizée hissed in pain, hand clenching the fabric of her blouse over her heart. Her tether, her chain, her link to the Void Heart was twisted and stretched, straining.

That only meant one thing.

She strained on the pavement, dust scraping her arms as she twisted her neck up. Her jaw dropped. The sand- it was- Void was-

The screaming faces had given a way partially, revealing a mound of sand above her. She could see the spikey-haired woman crawling back, staring in horror at the mound. At Void deep within. At least, Alizée had to assume Void was stuck inside.

”No!” She cried out, her voice hoarse and weak.

She spoke without thinking. She was in danger, severe danger. She could see the shields Stormy had put up, but knew she didn't have the strength to hide behind one. She didn't have the strength to move.

Her next move was on desperate instinct. Two tiny, wispy Void hands appeared in front of the spiky-haired woman, one blindly groping for her collar. Once found, the other hand made a swing for the woman's face. The fist moved slowly, with less strength.

Desperate tears streamed from Alizée's face as she tried to drag herself up off the ground, glaring hard at the woman. She was half-blind, but nothing would stop her from doing anything to make her stop. Not even the demonic faces screaming at her.

“D-drop him!”

She was signing her death warrant again, bringing attention to herself. She gritted her teeth, keeping the fear and pain off her face.

She didn't have a choice.

Void struggled within the sand, phantom hands pushing back against the sand. He didn't need the oxygen, but the weight was immense, catching him off-guard. He tried to swim, but made the sand surround him more, and press in on the Voidly orb. He was, by all intents and purposes, trapped, and quite crushed.
Man, it would be quite the coincidence. Only the phone is in her purse somewhere on the ground in the parking lot......... D:
