"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

Right, wanted to confirm some things, Est.

For one, the Wizard Queen has only been in power for two years, yes? And the Seeds themselves have only existed for two years as well? There were no Seeds found elsewhere in the past?

For the Seeds themselves, do they run off their own power, or their wielder’s life force? I’m guessing that their natural state is that of a crystal, and it’s only through craftsmanship that they become accessories and such? Can Seeds possess multiple powers/abilities? Is it basically a gacha roll to determine what specific ability a Seed possesses?

And how would Seeds interact with magic? Does one overcome the other, or are they technically not even the same thing, leading to a situation where some just don’t work together?

Yep! The Wizard Queen came into power two years ago, and the Seeds have only been around for two years. There may have been other artifacts, like enchanted staffs and whatnot, but no Seeds.

Seeds run off their own power. I imagine one day in the future they may die like a battery, or need recharging, but that wouldn't happen for at least a hundred years. Yep, their natural state is a crystal, and crafters like jewelers are able to shape them and put them in jewelery and other accessories. A Seed is able to possess multiple powers and abilities as long as they are related to one another. And yes, while most seeds are simply good luck charms, the rarer ones possess extraordinary abilities, just like a gacha roll. There is no way to change or affect what abilities a seed has, unfortunately.

Seeds are a type of magic, and one magic can affect the other. For example, if you have a seed that can generate a shield of anti-magic, any magic attacks are null and won't work. If you have a seed that can summon monsters from Dremora's Shade, those monsters can still be affected by regular magic, such as the white magic of the Church. I wouldn't say one is more powerful than the other, and it's a case-by-case thing on how magic and seeds would interact with each other.

Does that answer your questions alright?

I've been out and busy basically the whole day, but I plan to start working on my idea tomorrow. This might sound somewhat familiar for some of y'all, but I'm planning on a mercantile duchess, a woman whose money and power comes directly from her own trading businesses and her powers of logistics. Her city would accordingly be particularly suited for trade, and her faction would either be her own personal trading company or some sort of similar consortium.

That sounds great, I can't wait to see it. Definitely let me know the particular specialities they have. For example, Hathforth's speciality is pearls.

Arrowfell is large enough to have two or more major trading hubs, so having another trading hub besides Hathforth is alright.

Probs a good time to ask how big the province is, ye.

And then we can follow up with asking for a world map huhuhu.

Arrowfell is fairly large, fitting at least 7-8 major cities within it. I will work on a world map and share it later today. :)

I forgot to mention, I meant to play as a rebel, and would my previous ideas still work? Or at least maybe a character possible from the former king's court or maybe a magical sect or organization that was allowed to take up residence in the region thanks to the king. However, if I do that, then the leader would be an orc mage and I am not sure if that would fly.

Yes, your previous idea would still work. It just means the Wizard Queen will be more suspicious of you, but won't do anything against you... yet.

Any sect created by the late King would have to go into hiding, as the Wizard Queen would have dismantled or grandfathered any sects into her own design. So I think you'd either report to the Wizard Queen, or keep your origins secret. I think reporting to the Wizard Queen isn't terrible, as it allows you closer access to act as a spy, if you so wish to.

An orc mage would absolutely fly. Do my suggestions still work for the character you're imagining?
@LunarParadox I love the court mage, just one quick clarification. Freeze Substance can't affect humans and other races, right? As long as that is the case, your character is accepted. Feel free to post them to the character tab when you have a moment. :)
@Psyker Landshark That sounds great, I can't wait to see it.

According to that timeline, I think we will start the IC this Friday, if that works for everyone. Gives us all enough time to write up sheets. ;)
@Estylwen Oh hey, this looks neat. I have an idea to pitch:

My main character will be the daughter of a Lilim coven mistress who's enrolled in the College of Hathforth, at least that's what she seems to be, in truth, she also acts as a spy and informant for her mother and coven, who has vested interest in exerting control over the Glasic Fields. The coven are opportunists, they care not who sits on the throne as long as they can rule over the seeds. After all, they're Lilim, daughters of the arcane.

And now, loredumping time, Lilim (plural and singular) are one of the many races of the world, they look almost indistinguishable from a Human to a layman's eyes. However, unlike humans, all Lilim are female (they can only bear daughters, which will be Lilim regardless of their father's race), notably more attractive on average compared to humans, and long-lived like the Elves. In general, they possess innate talent for the arcane arts, and in exchange, their physical prowess is quite subpar.

From a meta perspective, design-wise, I basically took traits from Humans, Elves, and Succubi then mashed them into this ultimate 'male fantasy' abomination.

Whaddya think?

Hello! I like your idea, it opens up a lot of opportunities for her to see how the Queen's court interacts with the college, and the types of research taking place there. I can also see the Wizard Queen and thr Lilim coven having a lot to talk about in the coming future. The race concept is pretty neat too.

I really like this idea and invite you to make a CS for her. :)
@LunarParadox I think you have a lot of options with this concept, and I can't wait to see the CS. Good idea on keeping which side they choose open, the Wizard Queen will be hard at work, haha.
Interested. Thinking about a court mage, perhaps someone of lower birth who managed to rise up through talent/having a large base pool of life-energy. What role would someone of that rank play in court on a daily basis?

Hi Lunar, I love your idea. A court mage who rose up through the ranks would likely play the role as an advisor to the Queen, as well as playing apart of the royal guard in case the Queen needed defending. The Wizard Queen would very likely commission research and work for the court mage to do, and would be one of the Queen's preferred. Someone who rose up through the ranks would also be an object of jealousy from the other courtiers.

Depending on what Faction you choose or create, this opens up a lot more options for you. In the case of the Wizard Queen, she was once a court mage who also ran the Theives Guild in a neighboring kingdom, before it was all destroyed. You have a lot of options, so it's all about how you want your story to look.

How does all that sound? :)
@twannyman Perfect! Okay that sounds great!
Interested, and how does a leader of a knightly order with ties to the region work? Or maybe a surviving member of the former King's royal guard?

Great question. Knightly orders would have a strong connection with the Church, and follow the Three Tenants of the All-force:
1. Wipe out the denizens of the Dremora's Shade wherever you see them.
2. Allow prisoners a fair trial. Accept surrenders.
3. Be the benevolent light of the All-force in actions and words.

There would be a ceremony done by the Wizard Queen in the presence of the Church to 'anoint' a knight, while promotions to leadership positions would be handled by the Church directly. In regards to having regional ties, it sounds like they'd be traveling from city to city based on written pleas from the dukes and duchesses there to handle organized crimes or any criminal/unexplainable activity that is too much for the local guards.

Being a surviving member of the former king's royal guard also works. The surviving guard would have undergone many loyalty tests from the Wizard Queen. If they passed, they would have become her own royal guard. If they failed, they would end up in dead-end guard duty, or worse. The loyalty tests would tempt even the most devout man to betray the Wizard Queen, so the surviving guard would have to be either incredibly deceitful, or incredibly loyal to the royals to survive the tests.

Both ideas work. A traveling knight offers more stories around the province, while a surviving royal guard would have more story opportunities with the Wizard Queen. It's up to you what you want to do! :)

@twannyman, you have a great character, I really like them. The only thing I want to clear up is that finding the iron hand seed would have to line up with the creation of the seeds in the Glasic Fields, which was two years before the start of the story. As long as you're okay with having the Hands of Iron being around for about two years, I think this will work really well.

When you have found an image, please feel free to add them to the Character Tab. :)
@Estylwen

Gonna float some basic concepts past you for approval since I haven't decided which to run yet:

A. Noble mage who takes advantage of the Wizard Queen's rule to delve deep into forbidden magics. Necromancer, training acolytes and raising undead to bolster his domain.

B. Royal spymaster/assassin. Probably originally hired on while Evelyn was conquering the province, then converted/grandfathered into the position of head spook.

Both of these are great! I can see why you'd be torn to choose.

A necromancer would be super powerful. So much so that Evelyn may feel a bit threatened by it, and cause undue spying to be done.

A spymaster that survived the ascension and wasn't banished automatically has much, much more story potential. It means Evelyn and them would have been close for years, and that Evelyn would be sending them on missions throughout the province.

Both offer different stories, so I guess it's down to what kind of story you feel like. :) I approve them both.
