"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.
"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.
Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."
"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."
She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."
She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.
Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.
"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.
Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.
The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...
She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.
She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.
As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.
Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.
God, she couldn't breathe.
He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.
A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.
@HereComesTheSnow I figured a gold coin is a gold coin, same with silver and copper coins. If the MSR uses different currencies, then it's a dead give away. But everything in Arrowfell mainly uses the gold coin, yessss. :>
Description: Yes, Daisy. The little girl that her father, Flint, saved at the sacrifice of her mother. Those years were tough. She was often left with Hailey Weathersteel, Daisy's aunt, while her father Flint went out to make money however he could.
There was one time Daisy was woken to screaming in the house. She ran downstairs to find bodies of men strewn across the floor and puddles of blood. Her father's face was dark an unrecognizable, looming over the bodies.
”D-daddy?” She had called out softly.
Flint had turn to her, staring for a moment, before his anger and darkness melted away. He slowly approached his daughter, scooping her up from the floor. She had remembered how his dress shirt was spotless, and he smelled nice.
”I got rid of the bad men, daughter of mine. You can sleep easy now. Let daddy take care of the rest of this.” He said, tucking her back into bed.
And that morning, she got to have breakfast with her aunt Hailey and her father, realizing the truth of the world: Daddy kept the world safe, and he could do no wrong.
Gyft: Not yet.
Update:
Hailey Vagabond Weathersteel
23 | She/her | The Detonist/Unknown Alliance
Description: At least, that was the story she would tell people. She had to fit the lie. Nobody could know the truth, none except for close confidants within the organization. That fact that she wasn't just a devout of the organization. She was the Little Sister of its leader. She was the Little Sister of Flint Weathersteel. If word got out… they could use her against Flint.
Leaflets litter the streets of Nocturnia. ‘Meet the future,’ ‘Breathe the silver air,’ ‘M.PHEAT’, and other such nonsense sprawling all in nice little rows on the letter-like leaflet. Flipping the leaflet to the other side and taking four unique ones, the scribbles on the back would form a map, and mark the spot for an auspicious occasion!
Hailey was at such a meeting. And the next one. And the one after that. She sang with the rest, and raised her fist in the air. She could see it, the vision, the future! No longer would the pigs control them, and those snobby bureaucrats, and those criminal selfish gobbers.
One day, at these auspicious, oh-so-secret gatherings, crates upon crates arrived, all filled with little bottles. She was given bottle after bottle, as long as she promised one thing. One small, tiny thing.
Of course, she promised earnestly, nodding her head vigorously. And, sipping her bottles, she set her eyes on the other districts within Nocturnia, ready to enact ‘M.PHEAT's will.
Gyft: Bombs.
She is able to create, summon, light and throw bombs. These appear in size and shape similar to Bom-ombs in Mario, but without the life-like features. Each bomb can be made near-instantly. It has a blast radius of about 5-7 feet, and sends a wave of shrapnel out. These bombs are very deadly, with impact craters being formed and people dying if they are in the blast radius. Those outside of the blast radius can still get crushed bones and burns.
"Apart from Ventura, the rest of Compact 3 is free to go for the night.”
Ah, figured. Not like she could really move from her bed, anyway. It was probably for the best. What on earth would she say to Iraleth in their room…? What on earth could she say…?
"All of Compact 3 will be required to wear one of these rings until the end of Ventura's judgment. They each bear a curse of nullification…”
Ciara eyed the rings from her bed. Jewelry?
”You're still high as ever. Those are obviously torture devices.” The Voices spoke lazily within her.
Ciara's brows furrowed. ”Noo, they just stop essence use. Hey, you think they'll shut ya up?”
”Oh shut uuup, little Hunger.” Came the lazy reply.
When the principal turned back to Ciara with venom dripping from her words, enumerating all the ways she could be punished, one of which being death, Ciara couldn't help the darkness and shame that sunk in her chest. Even the euphoria couldn't keep it at bay.
It was over, wasn't it? Her life?
Ciara's lips pressed. The least she could do was do this gracefully. If she was walking to her death, she would simply tell the High Bishop ‘I have come hither to die.’ And that would be that. She didn't want to die, no. She didn't want to suffer. But her entire life had been suffering up to this point.
She would hold her head high, and keep whatever dignity she had left. So as the principal continued to beat her with her words, Ciara simply laid there, her eyes tight, and was silent.
"She speaks the truth, yet also lies. Eternal imprisonment or death are possible, but a better future is not out of grasp. It would be suboptimal to idealize a bloody outcome.”
Ciara recognized her. How could she not. This was the doctor that healed her just recently with the page. And now, this was the doctor that was sending out a lifeline so she wouldn't drown in her despair. Was it fake? Was it idealistic to even entertain the possibility of not suffering or dying over this?
”...Thank you, doctor.” Ciara said softly, doing her best to concentrate. ”I'll fight for my case, and accept whatever the High Bishop decrees.
“Also, I uh- I can't move.”
And she was content with that. That was, at least, until the shadow imp decided to sink into the gargoyle. Ciara's eyes shot wide, and she opened her mouth-
Before shadowy hands in her mind reached out, and controlled her body, making her freeze.
”Let me talk! She's gonna kill the imp!” Ciara said, thrashing about in her mind.
”Silence, fool! Anything you say now will be used against you!” The Voices bit back.
And so Ciara was stuck in that frozen state on her bed, staring in fear and disbelief, at what could be the final moments of the shadow imp.
I figured the Shades and the Demons were two separate things. If there really is a hell in Arrowfell, which would make sense, as the All-Force is based around Christianity and Islam, that there would be a hell with demons. I don't know if they smell, but perhaps they cry. They certainly wouldn't be subtle with their approach...
