For those who have joined or are contemplating joining, I'm creating a black marketeer character. Every survivor story has to have one, right?
I posted a CS, I really hope I did this right, aaaaa, please let me know if I need to change anything, I'll just be screaming in the corner

Your CS was great. Thanks. You are free to post for Kelly in the IC thread.

For all who join, once you have posted your CS and gotten a "thumbs up" from me, you can post your first IC reply.

Generally speaking, IC replies should not take the timeline ahead of wherever my last IC reply left off. That won't always be the case, obviously, but it's a pretty good guideline to ensure that writers don't get left in the dust.
Carol Kingsley

Female, 42

Image: coming

Marital Status and Sexual Orientation:
  • Publicly, Carol is married to George Kingsley, an Administrator with the UNHCR.
  • Privately, she is an in-the-closet lesbian with a girlfriend located in Aukland, New Zealand.
  • She enjoys sex, so she is likely to take a new girlfriend on the island eventually.

Physical Description: coming, though it has been posted that she is 5'6" and petite.

Psychological Description/Personality:
  • Confident, bold; a born leader.
  • Hard working, to the point of often driving herself to exhaustion.
  • A risk taker when necessary.
  • Kind and sympathetic, but willing to make hard decisions, too.
  • Fair; democratic.

Education: Several degrees, to be explained shortly.

Family/Friends: coming

Background: extensive public service to be soon explained

Other:
  • She will immediately take charge because: one, she was the boss in the first place; and two, that's just the kind of person she is.
  • Surviving isn't enough for her. Carol wants to thrive.
  • Ironically, this was going to be her last Aid Mission. She was retiring from the field and settling down with her girlfriend in New Zealand.

Direction for your Character:
  • Although she begins in charge, she will look for a way to delegate most if not all of her responsibility. For the past few years, she's been wanting to settle back and just enjoy life. Aid work is stressful and, at times, traumatizing.
  • She will seek responsible people to take charge.
  • She will seek a new lover.

Interesting. And I am a survivalist/tracker so it really gets my attention. If you have a need for a certain kind of character I can contribute to that. Otherwise I can get some mildly ornery ex-whatever character that would have some knowledge to adapt/survive. Of course, I can have a clueless character too. Whatever gap may need to be filled.

I like your approach. Many roleplayers feel that they must have the most excellent character in the story, but sometimes it's the guy who trips over his feet or gets lost while taking a pee in the woods that can be the most fun. I'm going to have one or two of these types.
Yeah, the same questions as the others. What kind of characters are you expecting, and is this just a jump in rp rather than one you make a character sheet for?

I think we need Character Sheets first, just so that I know we are all on the same page.

I'm hoping for a good cross section of careers: doctors, nurses, builders, agricultural experts, etc.
GOOD NEWS: THE CHARACTER SHEET IS AVAILABLE (in the Character thread, of course).

  • I haven't made a CS for a while, so I'm hoping it's adequate.
  • If you see a question I should have included but didn't, please tell me right away. I will add it before the other writers get started.
  • Skip/delete the questions you don't want to answer or leave them to be filled in at a later date, as I did for Carol.

BAPHOMINI ASKED SOME GOOD QUESTIONS:

@baphomini -- Are there any restrictions to the kind of characters we can make? Requirements or anything like that? I assume all characters should be personnel who were on their way to assist with the disaster, and thus should all be of a minimum age to even be working that job, but are there any other no-go's when it comes to characters? Such as no serial killers posing as helpful aids or whatever.

The answers:

  • All passengers on the plane were, of course, members of the Aid Team. They will include doctors and nurses, builders, agricultural experts, and more; if you have a question about the feasibility of a "skill" you wish your character to have, feel free to PM me or post a reply in this thread.
  • This mission was put together last minute, so the vetting process was a bit lax. If you have an idea for something a little bit irregular in your character's background, feel free to PM me for approval. (I will keep it secret.)
  • Regarding age, the only reason I can see any character being less than say 19 or 20 is if they are related to another character -- an important doctor or such -- who couldn't come without their child/younger significant other coming for the ride. Again, please contact me through PM before you include a Minor.
  • Regarding "serial killers", in the real world do we ever really know our neighbors and coworkers are such until they get caught ... or cut us up and eat us? This being said, I'd really rather prefer knowing your intentions for such a character before you include them in the story, via secret PM, of course. After all, we don't have that many characters in the first place.
  • On the other hand, I would expect the circumstances to lead to some "feelings" regarding law and order that might lead to some criminal and/or violent activity. That's what we have extra, minor characters for -- sacrificial lambs. Still, I think it's important that I know of and approve of such activity before it happens ... fair?
  • AND AS WITH ANY ROLEPLAY EVER WRITTEN ... you cannot be raping, killing, beating, kidnapping, etc., the character(s) of other writers without their approval and at leads a heads up to the Hostess. That's just courtesy and common sense.

Some notes about filling out the Character Sheet:
  • Others have to type your Character's name repeatedly during the RP. Please pick something easy for them to remember.
  • "Skill" below refers to their job with the Aid Team. You can also add something else that they are good at if you wish, such as diving or rock climbing or basket weaving.
  • For the image, I would prefer that you use a link to an image rather than post the image itself, but you do as you wish.
  • If I have omitted an item you wish to include, feel free to add it. (I'm sure to forget something.)
  • If there is something you don't want to answer now, leave it blank; if you don't want to answer it at all, delete it.
  • Before posting your CS, delete all of the instructions.

I heavily edited the introductory post to make it shorter -- it's about half its original length.

I'm going to post one more IC post (replacing the reply where I say "This isn't ready yet"), and after that, ya'll can begin posting.
Yeah, the same questions as the others. What kind of characters are you expecting, and is this just a jump in rp rather than one you make a character sheet for?

I prefer a character sheet with the basics: age, gender, appearance, general background, and -- if you would -- a hint at what you want to do with your character. That last part is simply so other writers can contact you with ideas about interactions.

I DO NOT EXPECT a 5,000 word character profile. If you want to leave a lot left unspoken so that you can develop your character as time goes on, that's wonderful!

I will get a profile sheet up by tomorrow. I have to apologize for being behind on all this. I've been sick with gastritis and out of energy. But I'm getting there.
