The world is old.

The world is dying.

It has been for a long, long time. The terminal stages are nearing. Earthquakes, volcanoes, great windstorms that cover continents. Thousands are dying. Yet, there is hope. When the gods left this world, they left behind a...panic switch, if you will. An emergency reset button for the world. They left it at the peak of the Crucible of Creation, the great stone tower they left behind. It pierces the clouds, reaching a seemingly impossible distance into the sky.

Unfortunately, the Crucible has been abandoned for aeons, and when left alone in the dark for long enough, dark seeds will take root. The Crucible has been the lair of countless monsters and demons for millennia. Those that once lived nearby moved away long ago. Living in the shadow of the rechristened Tower of Night has a way of wearing on one's mind. Even worse? Venturing within.

Yet that is what you must do.

Perhaps you've come to the Tower because of the legends of the rejuvenation of the world. Perhaps you've come for the riches, the collected ruins of thousands of years of adventurers and foolhardy men and women, and even the hide of the fabled dragons, long gone from the outside world, yet rumored to live on within the Tower. Perhaps you're simply a thrillseeker, climbing the tower simply to climb it. Whatever your reason, better get started.

It's a long way up.

---

So essentially, the world is dying and it's your job to smack the cosmic reset button. Unfortunately, it sits at the peak of an ancient tower full of monsters of all sorts that you'll need to get through to reach your goal. The world is one mostly of sword-and-sorcery fantasy, magic encouraged within reason, with a bit of anachronistic technology such as magically-powered guns, that kind of thing. The idea is an RP with more of a goal-oriented feel to it, because a lot kind of peter out because there's no real drive behind them.

Name: Mathias Jernigan
Age: 63
Gender: Male

Appearance:

Personality: Disgruntled and angry, Mathias is a cantankerous old Welshman. He has no tolerance whatever for any frivolities such as "joy, geniality, exultation, delight, and other synonyms for happiness." He tries his best to keep whoever he's with extremely motivated and focused to the point of the exclusion of all else. The thing he dislikes most of all is young people. Despite all of that, he's very protective. He wears heavy armor and bears a large tower shield, not so much for his own protection as for throwing himself down to protect anybody around him. His greatest asset is his unbreakable will and faith in himself. Don't try to manipulate his mind, because it probably won't work very well.

Goal: Mathias simply wants to remain alive, and to protect those around him.

Skills:
Willpower - 2
Protection - 1

Ability: To be assigned.
Inventory:
Suit of heavy plate armor
Heavy steel tower shield
Longsword, one handed, even though he's pretty trash at actually using it
Oil, to keep his armor moving smoothly
A backpack
Waterskin
This looks awesome. Can I join this?

Anwen pouted, quite disappointed. "That's all? Really? No zombies, or ancient magical artifacts with the power to destroy worlds, or even a half-decent potted plant?"

Upon further introspection, she didn't know quite what she'd been thinking, but...this was the first person she'd ever actually hosted in her home, so she had no idea whatsoever what the standard practice was. What did she do? She'd asked him what his home was like, and been quite disappointed by the answer. Her head dropped to Cloud, and she stroked the small body for a moment before jumping up declaratively. "That's it! Tomorrow I'm coming to your house! You said Room 226, right?" Her pout stretched into an enormous smile. "I'll be there at noon or whatever!"

With that said, she walked bouncily over to the wall and grasped the sword. After a moment, the bindings of wood holding it in place receded and she pulled it away from the wall, walking up to Alason. "I saw you looking at my sword! It's pretty, isn't it?" She held it out to him in a clear invitation. "Oh!" she added hastily, "but don't touch the thorns!" With that somewhat mystifying warning, she walked over to the "door" and stood for a moment, looking out. "I know it looks kinda out of place, that's the sword I used whenever a Hunter found me in the woods. That was a long time ago..." she trailed off, the smile in her voice fading away. "They called me—us—evil spirits. And there hasn't been an us for a very long time."

Her voice began to wobble as her emotions began to run unchecked. "I...killed a lot of people. Why did I kill them?" She began to shake with faint sobs, bouncing from one emotional extreme to another with extraordinary speed. The walls of the tree suddenly began to constrict in on themselves as she cried, dropping to a sitting position as she let her head fall. The gap sealed up, and the furniture began to shrink away into the encroaching walls. They slowly crushed in towards the two as they were left in complete and total darkness. A great groaning emanated from the wood around them as it began to contort even further away from its natural shape and crush inwards upon themselves as Anwen's usually completely forgotten self-loathing began to emerge from its dark pit.

"Why?" she shrieked, her voice magnified tenfold in the tiny space, "why didn't they just go away? I didn't want to hurt them!"
Alason and Anwen are still in a conversation. It should only be one or two posts more, but I'd appreciate a few more posts.

I'm going to have to bow out. College has gotten really intense and I just don't have time. Sorry!
Sorry guys, I think I have to drop this RP. College is ramping up and I don't have time to keep up with the posting, even as slow as it is. I guess I'll bow out early when Yuki is still a stranger.

Godspeed!

As she neared Killion, Triss noticed a message pop up on the corner of her HUD. Curious, she opened up the page, saw that it was from...the UN.

Huh.

She stared at it for a moment before giving a shrug and an uncaring "meh," closing it down and instead focusing on not crashing and dying. She was, in fact, so focused on the road that she didn't notice the white-blue teleportation fizz beginning to form around her body. Then her vision flashed white for a moment and she ended up launching herself and her grav-cycle into a particularly stubborn wall.

Swearing, she picked herself up. Her health bar was significantly depleted, and Jericho was smoking and flaming. A long string of subsequent curses spewed from her mouth, so much that she nearly missed the video pop up in front out her. As her level cap popped away, she stared with utter disinterest. She wasn't anywhere near the cap, so she really didn't care either way. She was months away from using this new "feature."

As the man shown on the screen flickered away, she stared for a moment more where it had been and ineffectual kicked her broken cycle. Looking around at the people that surrounded her, she found herself profoundly unimpressed. Oh, sure, they had bigger numbers; most had previously been level capped. But she could tell just by looking at them that they had things like "ethics" and "morals," none of which Triss tended to concern herself with. In fact, she'd known of Mayhem for a while. He was probably her most prominent client, so she really had no reason to want him out of power. He paid her well, and she loved the work. Why jeopardize it?

Shrugging, she kicked Jericho once more before stretching and walking away from the small group of people. "You guys have fun with that. Later." She'd find her way back to Killion without Jericho, and return to the status quo.

Nodding happily at Alason, Anwen nudged aside the nearly-invisible bark slab. It slid neatly to the side, revealing the cavity. It was quite small, only six or so feet in diameter at the widest point. It was dominated by the bed, the mattress of which seemed to be constructed entirely of thick, fluffy moss. All of the furniture was grown out of the tree itself, and only a very few objects were unnatural. The only noticeable one was a large, impressive sword that hung on the wall, gleaming dully and carved with floral motifs, a string of thorns running across the blade from a rose on the hilt. Depositing Cloud on a small nightstand with extraordinary gentleness, she turned to Alason.

"Here we are! Welcome to my tree!"

She set herself to getting something to eat for herself, simultaneously giving Alason a firsthand view of her powers as she once again sang raspberries from their vine. Almost as an afterthought, she held out a handful to the well-clothed man. "Want some?" Without pause, she plopped the pile of berries down next to Cloud's sleeping form. She stripped herself down to her undergarments, sighing happily at the air on her skin and tossing herself on the bed, conveniently forgetting the lack of any chairs for Alason to use in her abode.

"So," she asked from her prone position, "what's your house like?" She assumed that he lived on the supernatural side of the worldly divide, and in her peculiar mind she envisioned an ominous tower surrounded by dark clouds and circling ravens, heedless of the obvious anachronism that Alason's classy suit would be in that atmosphere.
Goddamn I'm sorry, I think I might have to drop out of this RP. College just started, so there's just no way I can be active. Sorry!
