Bio

Hello everyone. I'm Dutch, a mother of a 8-year old boy and I love both rp-ing and writing. Since May 2020 I'm one of the contests mods.

I started with writing Dutch stories in 2002, I was already 19 at that time. I joined a writing competition and that got me started. Soon I started to write down all the stories my over-active imagination came up with. I had my first forum rp experience in 2003 on a Dutch fantasy forum. While I continued to write, I stopped rp-ing when the particular rp and forum slowly died. In 2011 my love for rp's rekindled when I joined a site with a forum and I started to RP solely in English since that is the language of the site. This is also when I wrote my first story in English.

I've got a few 1x1 rp's going on this site and a couple more on another site. I've always been a fan of writing competitions and I joined a lot several of the ones that were hosted on this website. Now I get to host them myself and really enjoy that too.

When you come here to check if I'm online, know that even when I show as online I might not be able to respond to RP's. I open this site so that when I have time I can spend some time here, but I don't always end up with the time to do so.

If I haven't replied in a while, feel free to poke me. I don't ghost on purpose, sometimes I just forgetful and if I read your reply and accidentally closed the tab I might forget I was supposed to reply T_T

Benjamin was in the living room with a book he had found in the small bookcase. It wasn't that good, but it was entertaining enough to keep him occupied. There wasn't much else to do around here anyway.
Some patients seemed to enjoy themselves here; a group of girls had formed a friendship and just chatted away, but he didn't feel like mingling with them. They all had their issues and from what he could see he wouldn't fit in.

He thought about Artemis a few times; she had seem really nervous about the meeting with the psychiatrist and he hoped it had gone well.
"Of course," Marc said. "You can ask to have one without sauerkraut or get other vegetables. If you can handle onions, they have baked onions too and those with the German sausage is a treat. They also have lettuce and tomato, and the standard things you can get on sandwiches and baguettes."
As he explained the options he led the way to where the street vendor usually parked his foodtruck.
"I will probably get a hamburger," he continued. "With the baked onion and curry ketchup. That's it."

Benjamin observed what was going on around him as he ate; there wasn't much else to do. He missed Dia and Ray, and even Ari. Hopefully he would see Dia later that day. Ray probably wouldn't be released until the morning. At least he could meet her from breakfast again.
"Pills, Benjamin," he heard next to him and he looked up.
"No thanks. I feel fine."
"You have to take them regularly for them to continue to work."
He picked up the cup with the pills and offered them to the nurse. "No thanks, I'm good. I won't take them."
With a disapproving frown the nurse took the pills from him and put them back on the medicine cart, after which she wrote something down. Probably another note about his refusal. Benjamin shurgged internally; he couldn't care less.
"Benny and Bear should be able to do something against the Dark-Type," Andy said. "They know some good bug-type and fighting-type attacks."
He turned to the doors when he heard them open and saw the two girls coming out in lovely dresses, and then looked at his nephew to see his response.

Michael stared at Niccia, taking in every detail of how she looked in that dress. "You..." he began. "Y-you look fantastic in that dress..." He then realised he couldn't comment on one girl and ignore the other. "You too, Mindy. That dress looks good on you."

Mindy giggled, it sounded like he just barely remembered she was there too and it was cute to see him smitten by Niccia.
"When exactly is it going to start?" she asked, turning to Gavin.

Benjamin was in his room when he heard a knock on his door. Expecting it to be Steph he quickly got up to open it, but when he saw Mike the disappointment showed on his face.
"Not happy to see me?" Mike asked.
"It's not that. I just had a bit of a situation with Steph..." Benjamin glaced at his friend. "You'll just tell me I'm falling for a succubus charm or whatever, but I can tell you for a fact Steph did not try to seduce me." It was a shame really, but that was probably better left unsaid. He nodded with his head to invite Mike in and closed the door behind him.

"They had no right to do that," Rudrig stated. He walked over to a low cabinet and got a bottle from it. "I'm officially off-duty, so I can have a drink," he said as he poured some whisky in a glass. "Want something too?" he asked as he looked at Rose over his shoulder.
The more the merrier ^_^
@Maglar You don't write or post on their website, you just keep track of your wordcount. They provide the tools to help you reach the goal, but you have to use your own preferred software, or pen and paper if you wish, to write your story.

On the 1sth you can change your story from 'prepping' to 'in progress' and the option to add your wordcount should be accessible.
If you update daily you can claim badges, there is a badge for updating the wordcount for 30 days in a row.
@Maglar 1.667 words a day according to their tool. I did NaNoWriMo for the first time in 2018 and I won with 62k words. Last year I didn't have a project, but this year I'm ready for it!

The goal is to write every day, but if you have an off-day and then write 3000 words the next that's still good of course. It can be though, some people drop out because 50.000 words in a month is not an easy feat. But it is doable. Especially if you have support around you.

Also, the goal is not producing a perfect story, but to complete your first draft. So while you can edit while you write, the suggestion is to move the story forward every day and keep the editing for after NaNoWriMo. You won't upload the story on their website, just add the word-count of it in their tool. And if you manage to get the 50.000 you will be a NaNoWriMo winner!

For some people it helps to join regional groups, because in those people get together for virtual write-in, sprints, and just general support from others who live in the same area as you do.

And this thread is of course for everyone on this site to cheer for each other :)

We are up to two entries now :)
"Don't forget your pills," a nurse said as she passed his table.
Benjamin almost swatted them from the table, but he refrained from doing so and just focussed on the subpar meal. Eating in this facility wasn't a treat, but everything here felt like a prison, so that was no exception.

He noticed someone of the staff feeding the catatonic woman, but he seemed less patient than Marc was when he helped her eat. Benjamin recalled the gentle way Marc helped her, but this one just wanted to get his job done. It was awful people like that were even allowed to work here.

"I know a good place where they sell a bratwurst baquette with sauerkraut." He started walking towards the exit of the arcade hall, glad that it had gone so well. "They have other fried meats you can choose on the baguette too, but their german sausage baguette is really the best on their menu."
He could tell Sara was happy, she had a grin on her face and a light in her eyes he would never forget.
