The world as we knew it was falling into flames. Mutually assured destruction as the nations of the world tore each other apart in all out war. Fearing the end of mankind and life as we knew it, one brilliant scientist with the help of the world's elite launched a daring mission that would ensure the survival of mankind: an exodus to a distant star to a world we barely knew. An overgrown world that would be the foundation of a new human colony. 3 ships filled with rangers, technicians, and civilians would launch and undertake a 40 year long journey to the planet of Amir. Unfortunately, nothing can ever go smoothly.....not even the salvation of mankind. 'The Boone' was the first ship to leave and establish a foothold on Amir; paving the way for the next two ships 'Longmire' and 'Meurre' to begin colonizing. The crew of the Boone however has been awoken from cryosleep to discover a problem: the Boone has arrived to discover they aren't the first to arrive on Amir. Something went wrong, now the crew of the Boone must figure just what happened and find their place in this wayward galaxy....

Greetings Travelers. Welcome to my request thread. As you read above, this will be a sci-fi RP based on the book series of the same name following human settlers as they flee our dying world. The RP is based on a book series of the same name and of the same premise but thankfully no prior knowledge is required to enjoy this story. I don't intend on retelling the whole damn story but I do intend on using some elements of the story. Mostly some of the side characters. I'll explain more when and if you message me but for the time being that's all I intend on disclosing
Not a problem! IF we do go the tabletop route, the system I generally go with is very easy to use and learn. Conversation and narrative heavy rather than focusing on rolls and the likes

@Fetzen
More or less. I'm more apt to go for a Dungeon World set up if we go heavy into the tabletop aspects but I'm also a HUGE fan of the Powered by the Apocalypse system and will always sing it's praises

I have a proper map set up for this but as far as if all the islands are fleshed out, no. I got a few ideas in mind for some of the islands but ultimately I'm leaving some of these areas unexplored within my mind so others can add personal touches to their character background

@Adverb
Well I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!

"As the Night Mother raised her pale hand,

Shadow rose to consume the land.

Come at last, the Age of Night.

Rise now creatures of darkness, devour the light...."

- Tome of the Nightfall -

Chapter 2, Verses 23-27

The night has consumed the land of Unarath....

For centuries, the realm has been without the guarding light of the sun and the hearts of it's people have known little hope. Many of the old gods now lie dead or dying, those that remain either offer no hope to their disciples or only answer to those who pledge themselves to the dark....

What magic still remains is often corrupted by the Dark Ones with each use....

The vampire counts of Unarath rule the Night Lands while waging bloody civil war with each other and the wild beasts of the dark....

To survive in such times requires a will from the gods, a sharp sword, and a light to drive away the night.

Welcome to the dark (literally and metaphorically) fantasy world of Nightfall! The heroes of this world have failed to save it and now the world has fallen into darkness, the sun literally ripped out of the sky and plunging the realm into shadow. The lands of Unarath are ruled by several vampire lords locked in a war for dominance of the realm. To add gas to the fire, dark creatures that had once been restrained and weakened by sunlight.

One of the biggest problems (aside from the vampires) is the Green Tide; the goblin armies rushing out of the mountains and creating problems for all inhabitants of Unarath. The only place that offers any safety from the horrors of the continent are the free isles of Umalla, small islands that operate independently from the continent. This is/was your home and where our story would begin.

You will be playing as inhabitants of Umalla who wash up on the shores of Unarath. You had all been aboard a trading vessel by the name of "The Grey Maiden" when it had been set upon by pirates. You all managed to survive, now you are trapped here. Who you all are and why you all were aboard the vessel is up to you.

I will be taking the roll of DM, offering paths and adventures for your characters to embark on and a slew of characters for your characters to meet. Will you befriend them? Keep your distance? Make an enemy? Will you simply try to survive the horrors of Unarath, or will you rise above it to become a legend of the land? The choice is ultimately yours...

Hawke spoke with some of the newer Runners concerning certain items that would help them survive in the desert on assignment. Obviously, a sword or bow was very important to combat living threats but the real threats were the environment. Water was the biggest one. Without it, a Runner was doomed a very short life. That was why many Runners were given a supply of Aquamarine Tears, mysterious gems that when sucked on produced a fair amount of water. Not much mind you but enough to ensure you wouldn't die. They were a must for Runners but proper water was also welcome as well.

Hawke sighed as he tended to his boga and inspected the cargo as it was loaded aboard the schooner. Black Powder, Dried Food, Aquamarine Tears, men and women to aid the dig as well as man the schooner. It was quite a bit. It was a prize for any bandit or raider who spotted it. No wonder they had such a detail. Thankfully though, the schooner was armed. Torvin was making sure of that as the half-fae inspected the merchandise.

Torvin made his way aboard the schooner and inspected the defenses. Black Powder Grenades, Repeating Ballista, Dragon's Breath for spewing fire on those who came to close. Not bad at all. Torvin especially smiled when he examined the grenades. His weapon of choice every time. Blades and bow were good, sure but why not send your enemy off with a nice loud BANG! The dwarf glanced back to the Zitan as it signed to him. Torvin frowned a bit as he took a moment to decipher what was being said. He noticed the pointing and looked to see the tattoo. Torvin grunted. He understood.

"It's the mark of a member of the Iron Army. I was a member of the Iron Army's engineer corp but I decided to go off and see the world. I wasn't born to live a small life. It's much better to die a large death if you ask me..." he grunted as he took a swig of his flask. Some would probably criticize Torvin for drinking while working but Torvin wasn't drinking alcohol, rather he was drinking water. True he enjoyed a good brew but he wasn't going to dull his senses when he needed to be sharp like a knife.

Torvin was barking orders to the crew of the schooner, moving men to positions and assigning them jobs much to the captain's dismay. Torvin however had told the balding human that if he wanted to live to see Ruk, he'd listen to the dwarf or be put under with a good knock on the head. The dwarf got things done, one couldn't fault him for that.

Hawke mounted his boga and did a final run down of his gear. He was fully equipped and prepared to fight. Prepared to survive as well. Hawke looked around him at the others. They seemed ready and raring to go.

"Alright, everyone ready?" he asked. With the confirmation of others, Hawke put a whistle to his lips and blew loudly. The gates began to creak open to reveal the canyon path that lead down to the bottom of the canyon. Hawke pulled up his shemagh and snapped the reins as his boga took off through the gates and down the sandy path towards the ground below. The schooner followed behind as a mage aboard summoned a gust of wind to get the sail moving as they followed in kind. The night was cool, bright thanks to the presence of the Twins above them. The sky shades of deep blues and purples. It was always a beautiful sight for Hawke. One he'd never tire of so long as he lived.

The city of Ruk laid directly ahead of them, the city of Nekar and Sando behind them. On either side, the canyon walls stretched at least a quarter mile up. The air blasted through the canyon and kept things cool but sand shifted constantly and created dust storms. Hawke rode hard and kept his eyes out, eyeing above them as they rode. The first night was rather uneventful to say the least. Or it would have been had the wind not begun to pick up as the sun was starting to rise, casting crimson light over everything.

"Shit. Sandstorm! We need to find shelter for us and the schooner or we're gonna be shredded apart!" the veteran called over the winds. Hawke began looking around. There was a cave they could hunker down in not far from her that could shelter them and most of the schooner. So long as the sails were kept down and everyone pulled, they could position the schooner perfectly. Hawke jumped off his mount and motioned to the group. "Everyone! Grab a rope and start pulling the schooner towards the mouth of the cave! Use the boga if you have to" he yelled. Hawke looked to Torvin. "How long we got?"

The dwarf eyed the sky and judged the wind as his dwarven mind processed the information.

"1 hour at best!" he yelled. Hawke cursed as did most of the crew as they began to scramble. Torvin gave the Zitan a pat. "Time to prove yourself. Make sure everything loose is strapped down and once that is done, grab a rope and start tugging. Our lives depend on it" he told the insectoid.

Hawke looked to Karissa and called out over the wind.

"Karissa, do you think you can buy us time?" he called out.

Torvin crossed his arms and eyed the group as Hawke spoke up. Torvin came across like a criminal and even a grouchy bastard but the truth was Torvin wasn't. The group looked rather green to him and while he was confident they could get the job done, he found himself wishing that they'd found some more seasoned people to accompany them. As Hawke spoke and asked for volunteers, Torvin grunted and smirked.

"Don't all stand up at once" he said with a chuckle. Most volunteered to ride with Hawke but a handful of volunteers spoke up to join Torvin aboard the schooner. The dwarf smiled as Asante spoke up, followed by August and Karissa. Iyana had squeaked less than spoke but it made it obvious that she was interested in riding rather than sailing. He didn't blame them to be honest. While the schooner was likely fair in size, it wasn't exactly going to be spacious. Not to mention the fact they'd be stuck on a boat with the crew of the schooner whom no one knew personally. It wouldn't bother Torvin in the slightest as most knew that he was an easy enough individual to get along with so long as you minded yourself. The zitan approached him and began to sign. Like Hawke, Torvin knew a little bit of Zitan Sign but like Hawke it was only enough to get the gist of what it was trying to convey. Torvin took a moment as he got some of the signs confused but nodded once he felt he understood.

"I know enough to get what you are trying to say. So long as it doesn't become frantic, we'll understand one another" he grunted. After a moment, August spoke up and asked a relevant question. How long till they departed? How quickly did they need to get there? Torvin motioned to Hawke who nodded.

"We are departing in a few hours. Take this time to gather what you need for the journey. Stock up on water, Aquamarine Tears, food, essentials. We leave at the sound of the whistle with or without you so I suggest being present before the whistle sounds. As to the time frame, we need to get these supplies to the dig site in no less than a week. The trip there will take at least a week assuming we don't run into any major obstacles. Once we get to the dig site, we return to the Southern Barrier and return to Ruk where we will be paid" he said. Torvin snorted. Hawke glanced to the dwarf who spoke.

"Hawke, we both know we are gonna run into something out there. We're escorting a schooner with valuable goods across the Dune Sea. I'll be shocked if we DON'T run into something" he said. Hawke scowled a little. The dwarf was right but the half-fae didn't exactly like that he was being so blunt. It didn't matter though. Hawke looked the group over before speaking once more.

"You have 2 hours to do what you need to do. Gather your supplies, say your good-byes, and be at the gates before the whistle sounds" he said before nodding, letting them know they were dismissed. Torvin looked to the Zitan and grunted.

"Assuming you don't need anything, I suggest we get aboard the schooner and get familiar with what we're defending....shiny?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. Asked wasn't quite the right term. His question mark was certainly there but it was more like he was telling Skahn, not asking the insectoid.
I will make a Discord then! I am also on the hunt for a decent piece of art that screams Torvin

EDIT: As though on cue, I found it!
