Bio

Very well, where do I begin?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles.

There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking. I highly suggest you try it.

"Somebody had to do something. And you sure weren't about to!"
- Terry McGinnis to Bruce Wayne

Obviously, this isn't a character that originated with me. @Lord Wraith did all of the heavy lifting to establish the blend of both the contemporary Batman mythos and the canon of Batman Beyond, resulting in a version where Terry can operate as Batman in a modern Gotham City that hasn't become a Blade Runner-esque futurescape. So the changes to the regular Batman canon should be apparent - my goal is basically to take the baton and run with it, seeing as I've had conversations with Wraith about the basic philosophies of what made Batman Beyond interesting (so don't expect a Riddler Beyond or similar gimmick concepts). We both seem to agree that Terry should be the focus, not Bruce.

Wraith provided me with alot of story content that he was going to do himself, but has no interest in pursuing any further, so I'm going to do what I can to blend what he had in mind with my own ideas since I like alot of what he came up with. Beyond that (no pun intended), I want to really flesh out the Gotham of the past and the Gotham of the present, since The Batman's been around since the 1960's and holds a metric slag-ton of history that influences Terry's life as the heir to the cowl.

The overall crux of Batman Beyond, as I've revisited the show, is that as Terry grew into the mantle of Batman, he became further away from what Bruce Wayne was whenever he was active. The best way to describe his personality is that Terry evolved from the best parts of each Robin to create a new character, someone who saw things like justice and heroism in a more optimistic light than his predecessor while retaining the rough edges that would make someone The Dark Knight. My plan isn't to deviate from this arc, but to take it even further. Right now, Terry's operating very much in the shadow of The Bat, but I want him to eventually own the role almost independently of Bruce and set the course for his own destiny. Which I recognize is a mammoth task when Bruce Wayne has been the originator from day one of his creation, but I want to make it clear that the old Batman's days are over rather than lean on Terry being an extension of one man's legacy.

Especially since the canon of the DCAU went so far in the opposite direction that they eventually retconned Terry into Bruce's biological... well, let's not get into it. Best to ignore the mistakes of the past, right?

Batman is obviously accepted

I would think so. You're the one who encouraged me to apply.
@Bounce

Apologies. My mistake, I legitimately misremembered Toyboy using Tim Drake as an alias instead of Jason. Probably due to me thinking of the visual reference rather than the sheet. Fixing that now.

Unfortunately, I probably should have done this awhile ago, but I was so determined that I'd eventually get past my current funk and get to writing what I thought was a really good character. But it's come to the point where I can't count on when or if I'll get past whatever's stopping me from writing to get regular with Batman, so with a heavy heart, I'm bowing out of the game. I sincerely apologize for doing this to yet another game, but sometimes my headspace can just be a bitch when it comes to cramming narrative writing in there, and I don't see myself doing it anytime in the near future. Whoever wants my slot can have it since it's so early in the game.

My thanks to @Retired for giving me the shot in the first place, especially in a competitive roster. Sorry I let you guys down.

Whoever wants to pick up Cap, feel free to disregard my app and start with a clean slate after webboysurf's Season 1 ender.

While it's true that I was going to apply as Dick Grayson, and even considered switching gears from Robin to Nightwing before I saw the six character limit, I've realized that it wouldn't be beneficial to the RP to have multiple Batman sidekicks filling up roster spots. So as I feel as though I can't really compete with the Robins put forth, not to mention that in the time since agreeing to join the RP I've become apart of both Absolute Comics and Rogue Continuum, I'll be rescinding my intent to join with apologies and well-wishes to @Inkarnate and @ComradeMaxx.

I'll be watching regardless, though. Looks like a good group to be potentially forming.
In for Robin/Dick.

Unlike the Batman that's been considered the norm since 1968, roughly, this is a version of The Caped Crusader that embodies the positive sides of wearing the cowl. While the murders of his parents were a driving force, Bruce was never weighed down or scarred by the trauma - rather, he healed from it by channeling the altruistic drive to help others do the same. As such, while he is fairly stoic, he isn't needlessly grim or even above a joke or two and has experience working well with others. What truly motivates him is the need to cure crime at it's source, not bandage it with mere violence.

| Brief World Background |
Earth 3919 - Brave New Gotham
In this DC universe, there are no metahumans. No one possesses superhuman powers or alien heritage, even godliness. In the place of heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash are human, hard-working public citizens that fulfill crucial roles of their society, such as a Clark Kent whose neverending battle is to help maintain the world's journalistic integrity, a Barry Allen that pioneers new sciences in the world of criminology, and the foreign ambassador for peace in the Middle East, Princess Diana Themysciria.

| Brief Character Background |
The exception to the rule of law was once Gotham City, which had been largely overrun by an economic downturn since the early 30's. The impoverished state of the city led to rampant street crime, leading to the inevitable and fatal mugging of the Waynes. But after spending two decades abroad to learn how to become a master detective and capable manhunter, Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham fuelled by the need to restore the good. Utilizing his vast fortune, Bruce worked closely with Police Commissioner James Gordon to begin a company that would make crimefighting a business model rather than a mere byproduct of unlawful vigilantism.

Of their efforts became Knightquest, the first public global enterprise developed to helping the needy, rehabilitating the sick, working with the justice system to enact fair punishment within the word of law, and on occasion - when an extreme threat arises, such as the domestic riddle-themed terrorist Edward Nigma or the homicidal clown-garbed fiend Jack Napier - send in Wayne's own highly trained strike team known as The Gotham Knights to assist the GCPD in their capture.

As a result of Wayne's public adventures as the appropriately named "Batman", the animal Wayne leaned into as Knightquest's symbol to evoke both fear and the Chinese belief in the animal's healing properties, Gotham now rests at ease with a dramatically reduced crime rate thanks to the tireless efforts of Wayne and his compatriots - such as field commander Richard Grayson, hacker Barbara Gordon, strategist Timothy Drake, extractor Selina Kyle, and infiltrator Cassandra Cain, among other agents to wear Knightquest's Bat-insignia.

As Wayne was about to speak at what would be his surprise retirement, handing the Batman suit and gadgetry over to Grayson, Wayne vanished without a trace. While his allies scoured the globe looking for him, none could imagine that he'd become the captive an interdimensional alien's amusement...
Teddy Roosevelt was robbed!

Other than that, I'm very excited to take on a new iteration of Bats in this weird, whacky adventure.

And I'm quite surprised that for as many Spider-people that applied, you chose none. That's bold. ...or foolish, depending on who goes after you in your sleep.

Can't wait to mix it up with team-mates who outclass me in every way!
