I think I have my writing confidence back. Feels like centuries since I could string together sentences.

Hi. I'm a role-player/writer who has spent over twenty-one years in this hobby.

I will pretty much write anything as long as my partner is cool with my inconsistent posting pace and momentum. I'm pretty sociable and I make dumb jokes all the time. My favorite things to write is capeshit, anime, space operas, horror, and slice of life/mundane drama. My writing level leans toward minimalism, but I try to give my partners/groups more than enough to work off of. I like to think I am pretty flexible.

I like cinema, music, and animation just as much as I like writing with people. My biggest hobby after writing is pop media analysis. Ask me questions or for suggestions and I'm sure to have something for you. 😎😎😎

From Argus to Kuchinashi, the Mistrali look to the sun and the moon for guidance.

Sometimes, that guidance hasn’t helped. Lives lost and destroyed by the decisions of the ruling council, resources consumed and mistreated by the corporations that influence everything from what you drink to the stockpile of dust throughout the kingdom that Huntsmen use to combat the Grimm. A century ago the Mistrali were forced into a war that would cause a domino effect throughout the four kingdoms of Remnant and create a long-seeded resentment toward Mistral. To some, Mistral became little more than another Mantle.

Since the ending of the Great War, Mistral has become more chaotic and dangerous. Criminal syndicates and seedy corporations have designs on the Kingdom and revolutionary groups like the White Fang have created instability throughout the kingdom to the point even their own allies in the former kingdom of Mantle have begun to blame them for their own problems. The Schnee fight the Cerise and the Al Mond over dust disputes. All while insidious forces hope to manipulate the chaos for their own ends. A lone woman in the darkness may become the most dangerous of them all. But for you, these are not concerns you are even remotely aware about.

With an initiation exam in front of you, an excitement swells in your gut. You have no idea about your destiny and how it will be you and the friends you make who’ll be the first line of defense against Grimm and non-Grimm alike. But the World of Remnant never does care about the plans you make, does it?

Our kingdoms are at the brink of war, yet we, the citizens, are left in the dark. So, I ask you, when the first shots are fired, who do you think you can trust?

Much like 99.9% of other RWBY role-plays, Grimm Noir is a RP that tries to recapture the spirit of the first season of RWBY while diverting from certain fixtures in lieu of original concepts.

Characters will start pretty much where Team RWBY started in the beginning of Season 1. Newly minted huntsmen ready for evaluation, study, and occasionally encounters that will turn out a bit more than they can handle at times. While we will battle Grimm in creative ways, the insidious natures of Faunus and Humans alike will come up eventually. I’ll also periodically ask people what they want to see and what changes I can make going forward if things aren’t turning out to everyone’s taste.

Naturally, we will start with an initiation arc.

Characters should be 15-18 years of age as they are new initiates of Haven Academy in the City of Mistral. They can have various flavors of background as much as it makes sense within the context of a newly minted huntsman or huntress. If they are not native to Mistral, then you will have to sufficiently explain why they picked Haven over Beacon, Shade, or Atlas.

It’s pretty simple, so if you have questions please ask them in this OOC.

When you are done filling out the above you will post it, in a hider, in the OOC tab so I can review it.

I’m asking everyone to follow a certain rhetoric when applying for this role-play. I’m a little more touch-and-go than other GMs, but I’ve learned a process that works for me that might not work for others.

- I will be checking up on people once a week, if you do not inform me of your status in three weeks I’m going to have to let you go. Myself and other players in your team should hold you accountable just as much you hold me accountable as a GM.

- Real Life takes precedence over this hobby we share, but a short post shouldn’t take all that much time here and there. If something is coming up for me IRL I will tell you and I expect the same from you.

- I will be looking at characters to see if they have a strong foundation as well where their personalities mesh with other characters. Team RWBY has distinct, different personalities with generally different tropes attached, so try to keep that in mind. This will not be a gamechanger if we end up with two stoic characters on the same squad.

- None of the events of RWBY sans the prehistory are canon for our RP.

- I expect everyone to be courteous and polite to each other. Banter is fine, but being derisive and hostile is a net negative and if I see attitude problems I will not tolerate them.

- If a player leaves the RP I will NPC them until I can find an In-Character reason for them to depart.

- I do not expect novels, but the writing level is Casual-to-Advanced. In this threshold. You should be able to spellcheck your writing and write two-to-three paragraphs when needed. Short posts are not discouraged. You should also have the knowledge of how the RWBY setting fundamentally works.

- Once all sheets are accepted I will post a link to my discord community, of which a discord channel for this RP will be present. For fluid communication it would be best you join it.
Are you going to be reworking the lore then? Or, like, specifying what you think Aura/Dust/Semblances should be like?

I think Aura, Dust, and Semblance are pretty much as they are in the show. The differences will come up in antagonists, key figures, and maybe some other things.
Interested!

...but I do have one pretty big question;

I saw Rwby's First season, and bit and pieces of the rest - is that enough to fit in?

Considering the first season has all of the fundamentals of the setting, probably. I also don't particularly like a lot of the lore and plot-writing they did after Season 3 so it's probably a good guess. The mainline thing I'll be looking for outside of solid concepts is people who can commit long term to a project since it's kind of awkward if somebody vanishes/ghosts in a small group RP.

Anyway, this is enough interest for me to put up the OOC.
You already know I'm interested!

When Ashlee had gotten the call to securely and discreetly analyze data at Angel Grove University she had been a little suspicious. How often did Professors at third-rate colleges make consultants sign NDAs? Alien rocks. Overheating servers. A swelling, awful gut feeling. Yeah, it all checked out.

Essentially, what with Ashlee always being the smartest person in the room, it didn’t take the twenty-six year old much time to figure out something was up. Even before she opened her laptop and got the energy readings she did she knew. The script on the rock slabs on the table to her right would’ve made the ancient Babylonians confused. When the professor was surprised she thought they were from outer space she realized how little he knew about what he had found. She was about to expand on their little conversation when the readings went nova and she had to duck for cover.

A happening that very nearly critically injured the older man in front of her. Thankfully, the college professor hired a really good bodyguard, or security consultant, or whatever the proper lingo was for someone who wasn't good enough for police work. Either way, Ashlee was pretty happy that she wouldn't be filling out a police report after her very secretive boss exploded. As she rose from her desk the lights flickered before a backup generator relit the room.

“That’s a few thousand dollars out the window.” Ashlee remarked as she looked at the scene in front of her as she looked at her laptop. “Including my laptop.”

As she waved smoke away from the cracked screen of her laptop the professor returned to his feet with an exasperated look on his face. “Well, that was strange.”

“Not the first word I'd use. You okay?”

“Oh, uh, thanks to Briggs here, I am fine.” He said as he immediately moved over to the rocks. “But! What could have… did they…”

There was a brief moment of silence.

“That has never happened before. They reacted to something… but what in the world could they be reacting to?”

Fhoros didn’t like being ordered around by Iphongar. The two warriors had been at odds with one another for centuries, ever since the Battle of Gelex Prime.

Iphongar blamed him for the defeat when it had been Iphongar’s plan that Fhoros was following the entire time. So annoying. If it was a defeat the only one who seemed who was held accountable was him and only him. Especially now after several of their comrades had defected to an opposing faction. It was something he thought about often. Even as he was walki—

“Fhoros! Are you even listening to me?!”

“No! I mean yes! What? Ow!” The blue armor-bearing warrior rubbed the back of his helmet in pain as the taller, brass-armored tactician grabbed his left wrist and slammed a device in his hand.

“The energems are in two separate directions. I want you to go after the smaller energy signature while I go after the larger.”

Fhorus winced underneath his helmet as he looked at the radar. His comrade was right and of course he was giving him the paltrier amount to gather. Iphongar always wanted all of the glory and respect. It wasn’t fair. However, even though it wasn’t fair there was no way their Empress would be annoyed by either of them ever again once they delivered the five gems to her hands. It was a plan so easy that even the most meager and pitiful of the imperium could succeed.

“What about the Power Rangers?”

“There hasn’t been a power ranger since I destroyed the last one, you idiot. Zoltar is dead. Use your brain. There is no possible way a ranger will appear.” The taller warrior shook his head as he looked eastward, “Now go. And destroy any humans that get in your way.”

“Leave it to me.”

Moments passed and the last member of their supposed group showed up. Seemed like the bulk of them were pretty punctual, which, the thief supposed was good. Meant she could gauge if things were getting fishy if people were “running late”. Still, the smell of cigarette smoke nauseated her. Who the fuck smoked cigarettes anymore? What was this, 1956? She hoped none of the other members of their supposed crew had any habits as archaic and disgusting as that.

“Vos.” She managed for her own introduction, “Don’t think the old man is the type for meatspace interactions.”

Well, that was a wild sad and depressing Summer for me.

But we're back, and hopefully before October arrives we can get out of this damn forest. I hope my rustiness with combat isn't too awful, haha.
