hi
Evren listened patiently as the old doctor threw his tantrum. As a former front line commanding officer, he was well accustomed to people throwing tantrums all the time, especially on the most inconvenient times possible. Like when you’re laying in a ditch for half the day taking cover from artillery fire or when storming an enemy position. Compared to that, the timing of Darien was pretty acceptable.

The captain was well aware of the sorry state his ship was in and that it would require a lot of money and hard work to get everything, including med bay up to standards. Unfortunately Evren only could borrow enough money from the Triads to buy the Dauntless in the state she was. The money for a complete overhaul of everything he had to earn.

As the crew left to do their tasks, the captain had to go to work too. Not only was he in charge of the ship but he was also responsible for the business side of it. That meant a lot of paperwork, calculations and counting money.

Evren went through all the data, receipts and information he could get on the expenses and calculated a rough estimate of the baseline operational cost of the Dauntless per flight day. Just the baseline resource consumption such as fuel and food for the crew would ramp up to around $2000 per flight day. Most of that would be fuel consumption. However it was still a rough estimate. Consumption of fuel was significantly higher when flying in the atmosphere of a planet or having to leave its gravitational pull. However these rough estimates would certainly help with the upcoming negotiations with Fat Pig.

Aside from covering basic costs the captain also needed $5000 to pay off the current quarterly year part of his debt that needed to be paid in the next few days and preferred to also get some replacement parts and medical supplies. That would easily be another $5000. All combined it was almost ten grand more than he had in his pocket. Especially now that luck had spent most of the remaining cash on restocking food supplies Evren sighed as he knew he had to squeeze out as much cash upfront from Fat Pig as possible.

Somehow Luck managed to time his food making project perfectly in sync with Anxi landing the Dauntless at Kharak town Spaceport. All the paperwork had to wait as the pleasant smell of freshly prepped food filled the hallways, cabins, bridge and medbay. It was dinner time, or maybe supper or breakfast. The timing of meals gets a little bit fuzzy in space afterall due to the lack of a day/night cycle. It just becomes food time.

Making his way towards the mess the captain came across medbay. There he was greeted by a barrage of sounds that was residing in the very grey borders between music and torture. The instrument of the bobcat was certainly a unique cultural thing that he was very fond of. However it was questionable if the other crew members could appreciate its distinct sound.

Evren knocked a few times on the Medbay’s door before opening it and sticking his head in. ”Food’s ready, if you’re hungry you should go to the mess. About the medbay’s inventory…can you make up a list of everything that is necessary ordered on priority? Then we can see what we can acquire in Kharak town before we depart again.”

As the captain entered the mess he noticed that Njal was busy with his pet again. It was sort of a funny sight, the giant man with the small pet. However, Evren wasn’t too pleased with having that creature lose around the food supply. ”Njal, put him back in his cage. I don’t want him to munch on our food.”
Kaito smiled as he saw how Yvonne sended the big dude flying. The fox was still hidden well within the illusionary fake walls and the giant advisory did not seem to be able to see through the illusions at all. However his insane durability was certainly a drag. Even having its leg torn and an arrow in his neck did not seem to bother the guy at all. He either was some weird creature or greatly enhanced by magic. However, judging from the fact that he did not even seem to notice the illusions and utter lack of other magical properties displayed, the kitsune deduced that the enhancements would likely come from some external source, like that wizard that just entered the room.

Jazdia seemed to be in a talkative mood, considering that she did not immediately put an arrow through the white bearded man’s head. However Kaito did not share his boss's judgment regarding not immediately ending the old man’s life. In the fox’s book, wizards are a drag as they often have ways to mitigate his illusions. Unlike the big beefy dude, the Kitsune considered the old man a serious threat.

Suddenly four Kaito’s came rushing out of the fake illusionary walls, attacking the old man from four different directions. Three of them were illusionary. The first illusion came in from the left and went for the wizard’s head. The second illusion came in from behind and stabbed towards the heart. The last illusion came in from the front with an attack towards the throat. All these illusions had one purpose, to draw the man’s defenses away from the real target that Kaito was going for. As the fox rushed forwards, drew his sword and in one smooth motion slashed towards the hand holding the staff in an attempt to cut it clean off.
Luck mentioned that he was going to prepare a meal for the crew in the mess. Maybe Njal is helping out, getting the table ready and stuff like that. Just an idea :)
*Edited*

Accepted :)

I've read through your character sheet and have a few points regarding Njal's pet. Alien life forms have not been discovered. Planets with breathable atmospheres have all been terraformed in order to make them habitable. Not a single trace of life has been found. The current colonized solar systems are all within travel distance. Other stars would require generational spacecraft that would have to travel for multiple generations. So a spaceshit piloting alien pet not something that will get a pass. Same goes for studying alien language as there is no alien life form known. However I like the general idea of Krite so I am going to give some idea's on how to rework the idea to make it fit in the world a bit better :)

There are 3 aspects that need modification. His origine, communication and the 'working a spacecraft'. Although I'm not entirely sure if I interprid that the right way. Right now I see it as being able to fly a spacecraft but I could have it all wrong. If so, please correct me on it :)

I like the uniqueness of Krite and I think that is something you should certainly keep. It's a bit of a one of a king creature and I think it would be great to leave his origine a mystery. He could be the product of genetic experimentation, or maybe he's a mutated animal from a freak accident with a chemical plant or something entirely else. By leaving this open everyone who gets into contact with Krite can form their own theories and there will certainly be people who think it is an alien. Nobody really knows :)

Since there aren't talking aliens I think communication should go mostly through stuff like body language and intonation. Njal is the one who can interpret his body language and communicate commands to him. Lets say that Krite sees someone in a room. He isn't able to articulary describe what the person looks like but when Njal asks him to point him out from a crowd he can do that perfectly. Or point the person out based on a bunch of pictures.

The last part is more about what he can do. In essence he's still an animal and should not be functioning on the same interlectual capacity as people. However there should be plenty of tasks he should be able to accomplish. Like navigating his way around airducts and press a button based upon describtion by Njal, collecting specific items on command, opening doors, maybe unscrewing stuff with his nails but pilotting complex machines is a bit too much.

I hope I have given you some good pointers to work with. If you have any questions feel free to ask :)
That would be the interstellar type. A long sleep. Proberbly a drug induced sleep that slows down metabolism and oxygen consumption.
Okay, since Karma's the ship's mechanic, what issues is she currently aware of?

What jury-rigged repairs exist?

Is the "Check Engine" light on?

List of most imporatant systems.
* Engines: Provide propulsion and energy for the entire ship.
* Auxiliary power unit: When the engine fails the auxiliary power unit kicks in to power the most critical systems for crew survival such as the oxygen generators, communications and thermal subsystems. This unit consists of batteries that can power the ships systems in case of emergiency for a week.
* oxygen generator: Generates and pumps around oxygen.
* backup oxygen generator: Backup oxygen system for when the primary fails
* Artificial gravity generator: Maintains a constant 1G within the ship
* Water management system: Delivers water to the kitchen, bathrooms, medical bay and other places in the ship. it consists of a fresh water supply and a unit that purifies waste water.
* Waste disposal unit: Burns up waste and compresses the ashes to make it take less space on the ship.
* Thermal subsystems: The thermal subsystems maintain the right temperature around th ship for both the crew and the various systems.
* Fire-Fighting system: Automated firefighting system that kicks in when a fire is detected
* Communications and sensors: All radios, radars and other sensors that are required to savely travel and communicate in space.
* Refrigeration system for storing food: Keeps the fresh food from going bad.

The known issues
* The backup oxygen generator is currently not functioning. For some reason it won't turn on.
* Half of the Auxilairy power unit batteries are dead and in need of replacement.
* The Fire-fighting system is not working in crew quarters and cargo bay. For some reason the sensors aren't transmissioning to the main control computer.
* The enige needs various important parts replaced due to wear and tear. Rigth now accelerating faster than 1G increases the risk of engine failure.

And you are ofcourse free to come up with some stuff yourself :)
Kaito watched as the hulking man entered the room. Somehow he seemed to be unaffected by the blast from the magical arrow. There were some lacerations on his body but somehow no blood was flowing from it. Something the fox found both intriguing and mildly concerning. If he doesn’t bleed that means that the big guy isn’t exactly human. So trying to go for human weak spots such as arteries might not work on him.

The kitsune continued to observe the man in warpaint as both Cedar and Jazdia started to engage him. The fox was rather curious to see if the explosive arrow to the neck would have any effect on him at all. For all he could tell for now he could be some sort of golem. If that was the case, they needed to find out where his core was located. For now Kaito chose to remain hidden in the illusion while continuing to observe the enemy combatant in order to find out where he was vulnerable to the sort of damage the fox could do with his short sword.
@MilkmanWill be keeping had track of resources like food, fuel, and money?

Hmm, thats a good question. I don't want track such things extensively and use running out of money, food, fuel more as story beats. However maybe a sense of economics increases the immersion. Currently thinking about how to put the cost part down in numbers without getting too much bogged down in number crunching and resource tracking.
