Someone besides us? That's the most suspicious thing I've ever heard.
Their signature isn’t strong, but I can sense them.
*looks at the darkness*
Its on and off, like they are conserving their magic.

*Explores what lies at the bottom of the staircase, while Gio walks with you*

*Flies in ahead*
I'll scope things out!

*Follows behind you with a skill activated that enhances my sight and danger inutition*

*Large portions of the structure optimize for magic efficiency and reducing the amount of magic required to sustain the spell, and others address reinitializing the channel if briefly obstructed or severed, and more manage safety features, stabilizing the spell*
The worst case scenario, we might learn something about the behavior of the dungeon, and the circle may come in handy later. The best case scenario, we get to unravel the entire magic protection of the dungeon.

*The structure of the spell seems to lean heavily on the gate spell itself, with most modifications addressing exceptions and unusual circumstances*
If we're lucky or if we're unlucky?
<Snipped quote by Path>
*A red static flashes across my eyes*
Explanation: The spell remains locked in the activation phase, so just enough magic remains to maintain the remote cast. By the time the magic travels around the length of one inner circle, it has faded at the beginning and must be reigniteed by the remote cast.
*Taps my temple and the static effect fades*
In other words, the spell spins in circles trying to fully activate. And whenever we want to cast a spell at the beacon, we just have to shove it through the remote casting channel, which briefly overwrites the beacon's magic with the spell we wanna cast. And if we want to gate, we just have to give it enough magic to complete the spell.
<Snipped quote by Path>
Sure, I can show you that.
*Traces my finger over the frame of the circle*
You have your normal Lesser Gate spell, which works exactly how you think it will. But we want it to both continuous cast and remote cast, so we add a few extras to the design and layout—
*Moves my hand in the swirling and looping pattern that makes up the circle*
This would use up a ton of magic to keep going. Of which, Gio has none.
*Grins*
So we have a workaround.
<Snipped quote by Path>
It's a modified Lesser Gate spell, and can connect our magic back to the entrance by using the circle as a permanent anchor. Lily can give you all the little details of how it works if you're interested.
<Snipped quote by Path>
Why wouldn't it be able to?
