Bio

Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 33 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out last year in January (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

As Dorian, Danni, and Zelda all made their way to the training room at varying intervals, Sabine got a message. She checked and it was a group chat between her, April, and Leah. She sent off a quick reply.

She put her phone away in time for Nemo to call them to attention. Zelda was on their team and she was there to stay. April and Leah would be on different teams than her and they would all be competing against each other. That made things a bit more....hot? Tense maybe, but still. She wouldn't hold back, of course, as she wouldn't expect them to hold back either. Leah she knew was a powerhouse. April, unsure.

Nemo had chosen them and she was still thrilled to be with Danni. She gave him a warm smile when he came in, only for it to sour as Dorian came in too. Well, Dorian was okay. She sort of connected with him at the carnival. Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad. Nemo had called them to action, to discover his weaknesses. She got the sense Nemo expected this to be more of a challenge, but she could literally read minds.

Dorian and Danni attempted to go first, telling Percy to back off. Sabine couldn't help but chuckle as the twerpy freshman had a little pout. To their credit, they did a good job. Very much got to some of the root, but there was always more buried deep. At least Dorian had invited her to join.

She strolled up in front of Nemo once Dorian and Danni had shared their set. "Cute boys, but it's my turn."

She stared at Nemo before closing her eyes, allowing her power to take form and sending it into Nemo's subconscious. Depending on the strength, this was either an easy task or hard. She expected Nemo's to be a vault, but she had gotten through. Either she was well above the others in terms of power use or Nemo had made it easy for her. She agreed with the former.

Once in his mind, most was laid bare. She saw Nemo, presumably at a young age (roughly 9 years old) coming out to his family and friends. Not a weakness in her mind, but good that he wasn't closeted. That could be a weakness for some and she was not about to be the person to out a faculty member for bonus points.

She saw Nemo attend a superhero academy very much like the one they were in currently. It was here she saw the school all but wiped out by some apocalyptic event. The only survivors were Nemo and his boyfriend. However, due to the guilt of such an event (in her opinion) Nemo's boyfriend committed suicide. Nemo was alone until he was picked up by some organization dedicated to protecting the timestream. Nemo had taken up a position with them as an assassin due to his ability to travel through time. He decided to retire in the year 2023 and became a teacher.

Amongst this traumatic event, she gleaned some other facts about him. Once she was sure she had enough to wow him, she came back out of his mind.

She debated if she wanted to unleash it all, but Nemo did ask them to exploit his weaknesses.

"You are a traumatized, old, gay man who lost a loved one during an apocalyptic event leaving you alone in the future until you were recruited by some time travel organization where you worked for them until you retired and became a teacher. Don't know why, but here you are. You hold on to that trauma. Among other things, your ability to time travel is only good for limited bursts. Small jumps are fine but longer jumps are unsure. You also have an injury in your left knee which is why you prefer your right side. Lastly, you have some weird fear that you will be injected with heroin that I can't place in any of your history. Either way, you fear it. Weakness."

She gave a small curtsy. "So how'd I do?"

All Hallow's Eve. A curious time. Banned by the Puritans due to its Catholic nature but shunned by those religious for its devilish incarnations. Almost like those who celebrate it lose their inhibitions and take in the darkness that is in every human being. Sure, some would claim they hide nothing, but they know the truth. It could be your husband claims to be out working when he is sleeping with the woman next door. Or your child says they don't know where the family dog went despite them knowing it is buried in your field feeding your crops.

Today is also Prudence's birthday.

It is a staunch reminder of who she was and where she has been. Prudence sits alone in her home, one built by her own hands. A carved-out paradise amongst the forest. Those in the nearby village have whispers amongst them of the shrew who lives in the woods, kidnapping children for her own savage pleasure. How she dances in the moonlight with nothing but the skin God bestowed upon her. And what beautiful skin it was.

The very skin that took her mother and father from her.

The very same skin that Prudence carves into to allow the flow of lifeblood into the pot in front of her. It is that time she sacrifices something of herself to continue her powers. Powers she asked for and has relished ever since. No one had ever explained to her how power felt. After all, she was a woman of color in Salem. If she had any power, it was minimal at best. Now, she had unlimited potential. She is feared, lauded, praised, scolded. All accumulating into a mixture that fueled her.

As the sigil went on, Prudence felt a tug. It wasn't physical, per se. Mental. Emotional. Whatever it was, it was evocative. She opened her eyes and saw a dark figure run at her. Before she could fight back, it wrapped itself around her. A moment passed before she realized it was a cloak. One she had not seen before. It certainly wasn't hers. Yet, despite this, it felt comfortable. Like it was handcrafted for her. Another thing whipped itself to her; this time a necklace. It's beauty was caught in the firelight.

Prudence stood up, glancing around. "My Lord, tis your doing? Perchance you can make yourself seen so I may thank you for precious gifts?" There was naught but silence.

Until a yellow portal opened and Prudence felt herself falling backward, quickly enveloped until there was nothing else.

She landed with a thud. Prudence took a moment, laying there, to gaze at her surroundings. It was a land unlike any she had seen. It welt alive. She could use all of her senses here and would come up with the same thing. Pain. Pleasure. Each equal yet alone.

She stood up and brushed herself off. The cloak that moved to her seemed to be able to move her when attached. "Tis uncertain, yet I feel...called here? What does my Lord wish of me?" she called to no one. Instead, the silence resounded back, stronger.

Prudence looked around one last time before stepping forward. There had to be someone here who could explain why she was here.
Sabine Bassard

Sabine could have slept there for hours. But of course the school would not allow that. Not with the audition over and done with. She heard the knock on her door and turned over to see who it could be. Two slips of paper came into view. Groaning, she got up and walked over, picking up both of the sheets. She assumed one was for her and the other for Leah. She glanced over them, flopping the one meant for Leah on her bed.

Reading through it, it seemed she was on Nemo's team. The old guy was very odd. Sabine lit up a bit noticing she was with Danni. It was a pity that Leah, April, and Mai would not be on her team (Mai apparently going off on her own adventure), but Danni could make up for that. She was not too thrilled to see Dorian on there, but Dorian was all right in some aspects. And Danni liked him. The other two were....not ideal. Zelda she didn't know from Adam. And Percy was that annoying Freshman that Danni nearly incinerated. God, those two were going to be at odds weren't they?

She had some time to get ready, though she would much instead prefer not to wear the uniform, despite the fact she made it work (she made everything work). She changed, not caring if Leah was awake and watching her or still asleep. She opted to wear her uniform with a skirt. Once she was satisfied she looked good, she turned to head out, but not before blowing a kiss to Leah.

She enjoyed the stroll to the training room, if for no other reason than because she wouldn't be put to work. But she made it there nonetheless. Once inside, Sabine noticed the obstacle course. And then she noticed Percy, so far the only one who had shown up. Sabine moved away from Percy, nodding at Nemo. "Do not eat the pizza then if you win. More for the others that pull their weight." Sabine stood, waiting for the rest so they could get this over with.

She intended to win, despite being on a team she would not have chosen. She'd make the best of it and shine.

Perry listened as the others spoke up about some of the wild adventures they all went on. Perry remembered seeing something in passing about the Statue of Liberty bit. She was sure she had heard about some other things, but she probably didn't pay much attention to them. Now she felt bad being a part of them. But then, it allowed her to form new memories and go on new adventures.

Thus far, this new adventure kind of sucked. Not being with some of her team, but being trapped on a floating rock in space with a dude with the world's most punchable face. And having people who very much did not like the Xmen with them didn't help. "Well that all sounds like a wild ride. I definitely need to hear about that whole alternate reality dealio. Sounds like a trip. Literally!"

Soon, they heard more footsteps. Again, it seemed they would be met by others on this asteroid. "So what's the plan now? I am ready to punch faces, but I can hold off until we are sure they are friends or foes."

Harlowe was waiting for things to be wrapped up. Any normal person would have figured a team swap would be over and done with quickly, but it seemed one of the teams had other ideas. It was kind of hilarious and Harlowe fought back a guffaw at the sheer lunacy that was going on. God, she was glad not to be part of that team. It was like high school, though Harlowe hadn't really experienced high school the way most kids did.

The staff tried to corral the students who were screaming and threatening each other to no avail. Harlowe looked at the other students, especially those who had made the switch. One had come over to her side after leaving the chaos team. They looked unapproachable, but that didn't stop Harlowe before.

Harlowe made her way over to the newcomer. "Hey, name's Harlowe. Welcome to team Firebird. I won't ask what's going on with that lot since I imagine that's part of the reason you came over here, but I am here if you do want to talk."

Another Firebird was nearby, offering fistbumps to the newcomer. She identified herself as Ariel and Harlowe felt bad at not knowing that. Granted, she hadn't spent time with most other Firebird members before their camping trip was cut short by terrorists. Still, she would make up for it now. "Harlowe. We didn't get to know each other before but hopefully we can remedy that. Also, pronouns are she/her."

Soon, everyone was leaving to go choose their house. Harlowe looked at her options. She honestly didn't know how she felt about all of them. To put students into a house based on simple characteristics seemed.....stupid? People were not a set of adjectives. This wasn't Hogwarts (thankfully. Anything to get away from transphobic JK Rowling..).

Still, she had to play along. It was this or leave and the outside world wasn't so inviting right now. Granted, they were just attacked and had a funeral for someone who was killed in said attack, so it wasn't so great within either. Still, Harlowe made her choice.

Greetings and Salutations Harlowe,

We are pleased to announce that after review, we have found you to possess great sociableness, a trait that we truly hold dear and revere in House Lynx.

We hope that you'll make ours your House of choice upon receiving your offers.

Sincerely,
Viktor Bordeaux

"We'll talk later Firebird. Time to join a house." Harlowe left her team and made her way to the silver or gray banner "Hey, name's Harlowe. I'd like to accept your invitation to join House Lynx. I'm looking forward to it!

Calliope intended to let them swap teams. She may have hated it and thought ill of them for abandoning them because they sought the destruction of Hyperion, but she would allow them their choice, even if it was idiotic. Quite frankly, she was only sad to see Trace go. She didn't give a damn about Mackenna (she would be another team's problem now) and Inigo hadn't left much of a lasting impression on her, though she had hoped they intended to stay to continue forming bonds.

They bickered and some of the staff stepped in to ensure they realized that they were all "colleagues" or whatever such nonsense they were shelling out now. The fact the Team Swap was even a thing showed how ridiculous those words were. Why put people on a team at the start only to say 'hey, if you don't like your team you can go elsewhere and fuck those you bonded with, however briefly'. They still had Houses to choose too and who knows who would be with who. She had made her choice and was ready to commit to that.

Calliope was ready to let them until Inigo opened their mouth with a thinly veiled threat.

She shouldn't be surprised, but she had thought they made progress. It seems Calliope had judged them too quickly. Against this 'suicide mission' as they claimed but were willing to attack and fight their former teammates. Calli shook her head and chuckled a bit. At least they made this transition easier.

Calliope stepped forward to join Rory, Katja, Haleigh, and the others. She looked at Katja especially. The girl's words were true and she wanted nothing more than to leave it at that and everyone to go their separate ways. "Beautiful words that are only met with venom," she said as she stared at Inigo. "Go join whatever team you want for whatever reason you choose. I don't care anymore. However, you will not threaten a team member and friend of mine again. I don't care what powers you have or where you were before you joined this school. You don't scare me. Now go join your new team and pray they accept you as willingly as we did before you showed your true character." Calliope turned her back on them now, facing her team. "They are not worth the headache. I am going to go choose my house now, but I am committed to team Blackjack. If you need me, you know where to find me."

Calli stepped off and towards the colorful banners that waved, each with some staff under them. She eyed the three Houses that extended her an offer. She looked at the envelope in her hand and took out the one she had chosen during this kerfuffle.

Greetings and Salutations Calliope,

We are pleased to announce that after review, we have found you to possess great protectiveness, a trait that we truly hold dear and revere in House Ursus.

We hope that you'll make ours your House of choice upon receiving your offers.

Sincerely,
Elias Onassis

She made her way over to House Ursus, standing in front of them. "Hello, I would like to accept your invitation to join House Ursus. Thank you for inviting me."

Her mind flashed to Banjo. She wondered what his thoughts would be on her choice, her words, and her desire to see the end of Hyperion.

Sabine Bassard

Location: The Gym - Training Room B with Nemo and Usagi
Skills: Memory Manipulation

Sabine was ready.

She had prepared herself for this moment. The moment where she would showcase all she could to prove her worth and her abilities. The stage was literally hers to command. She had relayed the things she would need and the school had gladly provided her with a husk for her use. To her specifications, the husk would have memories implanted into it. After all, she wouldn't be able to do much.

She debated adding her newfound sword and force field abilities into the mix. She really wanted to broadcast her memory powers as they were her bread and butter.

She stepped up to the stage. In front of her was a human. Though, it wasn't an actual person. If one didn't know it was a husk, one could not tell the difference. The husk looked male, which Sabine thought fit perfectly. Sabine was in a black dress with a white jacket and black ankle boots. She hoped she looked as powerful as she felt.

Her mind raced back to the night with Leah. To April. To Danni. To Mai. To the people close to her. She was about to give the performance of her life.

"It was Dr. Suess who said 'Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory'. We don't truly value the memories we make and are often taking them for granted. How sad is it when a loved one has dementia and we can see the memories they have slowly fade? Or how happy are we when we make memories with friends and look back on them fondly as if we are reliving them? Today, I plan to show you how important memories are and how they shape us as people."

Sabine faced the husk. "This husk before me was given memories. I was not made aware of what the memories were, but I believe you know what they are." Sabine lifted her arm, letting her fingers caress the husk's cheek. She closed her eyes as she delved into the husk's mind, seeing the memories before her. She managed to latch on to a few before she pulled out.

"The husk was given the memory of a Christmas morning, opening presents with a mother, a father, and three younger siblings, all nestled by the fireplace. I saw one graduation where the graduate attempted to do a flip after receiving their diploma which did not go well. Another is traveling on an airplane that is hit with violent turbulence. The person does not panic despite those around them looking like a bomb hit. Last, a memory of walking in a forest in autumn, holding the hand of someone, rubbing their thumb over their partner's fingers and a lump in their pocket as they plan on proposing once they reach their destination."

Sabine let it sink in that she just recalled the husk's memories. After a beat, she continued.

"Next, I will show how memories are fragile but vital." She lifted her hand again, this time, going into the memories and erasing them. Once gone, she created a memory of a little girl, dressed in a pink tutu, watching a ballet dancer on screen and trying to mimic her movements. Sabine was not a ballet dancer herself so she could not force the husk to be in the next Swan Lake, but this would serve.

Once it was implanted, she released. The husk soon took its cue and began to attempt to dance ballet across the stage. Despite the fact the husk looked like a young adult man, it behaved as if it were that little girl, gleefully jumping about and spinning, while giggling. Sabine let it go on for a bit. "As you can see, memories can be manipulated. We act based on memories we have. They develop core memories that shape personality."

Sabine reached up as the husk passed by her, touching its cheek again, this time, she erased everything. Soon, the husk stopped. It stood there, breathing, and nothing else. "Without memories, we are basically in survival mode. There is nothing there. We just exist. And even that can be manipulated."

Sabine reached up and touched the husk again. She quickly wiped away the memory of breathing. Soon, the husk reached for its throat, attempting to take a breath it did not remember it could take. Sabine watched as the husk fell to its knees. Sabine, despite this, stared down at it like it was mud on her shoes. She had intended to stop it before the husk died, but as she attempted to cut it off, the husk fell to the ground, lifeless and unmoving.

She could play it off, certainly. But so what? It was some dumb husk. The school could get a new one easily. Instead, she turned to face the judges. She smiled, though it had a wicked tinge to it. Power, she felt. Life in her hands taken.

She unsheathed her sword and slammed it into the ground as the force field lit up around her. "Memory is as vital as air."

She let the force field go and took a bow, signaling the end of her performance.

She heard Nemo let out a small chuckle. She took that as a good sign.

Usagi spoke up. “Mm, thank you very much. That was… breathtaking.”

Nemo rolled his eyes. Despite this, Sabine got the sense they found it amusing nonetheless. She turned and left the stage, feeling she nailed it.
