‘Uuuh,’ Mayra answered, stopped short when Finn got his head cut-off, but somehow without it being particularly gruesome or actually life-ending. Which was troubling, because Mayra had really wanted to intervene before it got to that point, and now she instead stood there looking pretty stupid having achieved basically nothing but attracted the queen’s attention into what was pretty much a one vs one that she didn’t really want to fight. There were things she wanted to fight, but she wasn’t really in the mental state to fight this one. It didn’t feel right, the stage wasn’t set.

‘Aw, I wasn’t really looking to fight you. I just wanted to help Penny. And then Finn. And then, eh, I’d get to that,’ she said with a shrug, but then a silly idea formed in her head. Something way more amusing than just fighting.

‘Tell you what, what can you get if you mix fire and darkness?’ Mayra asked, as she summoned her magical power in both hands… and then slammed them together, producing a giant cloud of black smokescreen. If timed correctly with “Suwako” shooting arrows, that could be proper distracting.

So, Mayra has duplication. But Mayra liked pretending she does not have duplication, so she can take enemies unawares with it. So, in the midst of the smokescreen, hopefully hidden from the eyes of their enemy, Mayra duplicated. Real Mayra immediately applied Darkness magic to sink into the shadow of her own smoke beneath. The duplicate, meanwhile…

‘HEY COME FIGHT ME IN HERE, IF YA AIN’T A COWARD!’ duplicate Mayra shouted at the queen, hoping to draw her in. As a Darkness girl, she could see in darkness, like this smokescreen. And if she didn’t take the bait, duplicate could lure her over to fight somewhere else, but regardless, she trusted her supreme physical ability, high even by Magical Girl standards, to at the very least allow her to dodge somewhat. And even if she was taken out…

As soon as Real Mayra saw the opportunity, she manifested from the ground, grabbed Finn’s body and head, and then grin as she rocketed herself back towards town with a fierce, loud blast of fire.

She’d turn in mid-air to make sure she didn’t have the enemy commander right on her tail or about to slice her from behind or something. That would be annoying. Then she’d leg it, if she were able to. Much more amusing to try to trick the enemy commander like this.

Mariette eventually realized she did have the Queen’s notebook in her pocket. She’s just going to have ??? photocopy every page as quickly as possible and then drop it through a portal onto the exact site you end up on if you Overcity Shift from the Queen’s castle. Because it’d be a real pain if the queen had someone use Absolute Direction and was able to both find it was in Mariette’s base AND find where Mariette’s base was in the process. Not that it was particularly hard to find.

Mariette was then going to open a portal over the battlefield, peek at what was going on. She needed to recover Mayra…

Though perhaps that’d take a bit longer than that.

Mayra lay in wait, prepared to launch to Penny’s rescue… but basically found that she didn’t really need to. It seemed like Penny was handling her own, which was pretty annoying. Not to mention here came whatever else kind of supernatural attack and- ooh, it’s red fire guy! They fought together earlier! He was attacking the queen!?

Well, Mayra kinda wanted to save him, too. So Mayra braced for, specifically, the queen’s counter-attack. After the attack, whatever was the result for it, Penny vanished, but Mayra was ready to fire herself off to go to Finn’s aid. They were back-to-back badasses before, Mayra could totally save him again!

Now, time-wise this is a little bit wonky on account the Queen likely reacted and possibly counter-reacted directly after the attack, and Mayra had likely launched herself into the fray to help defend Finn from the counter-attack of some kind (albeit she would only help with a fireball, she doesn’t care enough to actually jump in the way of an attack), but at some point there she’d be a little sad to realize Penny had vanished and then Penny would talk into her ear. Something about Mariette because the Queen had arrived through a portal.

‘Eh, Mariette will be fiiiiiiine,’ Mayra answered, almost gleefully. ‘More importantly, are you fine? I was ready to jump out and help you, ya know! The perfect opportunity just didn’t present itself!’ she said, in the midst of whatever she was currently doing.

For the twins, it seemed that things calmed down. Others were doing the fighting, and MDP came in clutch to put all the men to sleep. It was a bit unfortunate, Eli thought, as it would have helped if they could have carried the guys over on their own feet, would have probably gone faster, but eh, what can you do. And then they got glomped. I forget if they’ve actually met MDP since being changed.

‘Hahaha! It’s the Dream Princess! You saved us! We gotta talk more later!’ Ronin laughed at the glomp and did her best to glomp right back.

‘Oh, my. Close contact. Hello, princess. It’s good to see you,’ Miko giggled a little too, but it seemed like the time had come when they could relax a little. Emphasis on a little, because the battle was still waging over there. Then there was Aurelio.

‘Oh, it’s you…’ Miko made a possibly strange comment towards Aurelio. ‘Thank you for coming to our aid. Both and all of you,’ Miko continued.

‘Now, then. Sister. We need to move the civilians,’ Miko commented, turning to the civilians.

‘And we have the perfect tools for that, don’t we?’ Ronin smirked. ‘Stand back, princess! It’s our turn to shine!’

The two twins grabbed each others hands, and now undisturbed, they could amass their magic. By themselves, they were nobody special, but together…

‘With the power of wind…’ Miko said.
‘With the power of floating platforms!’ Ronin called with a chuckle.

‘Let’s see them to their destinations.’

With that, the two unleashed a great deal of the magic they had left, in order to send out a low wind paired with miniature platforms that would attempt to pick up as many of the fallen civilians as they could. The wind would pierce in under them, lifting them just the slightest from the ground, and thin rectangular platforms manifested, allowing the civilians to lie on them as the twins used their combined magic to let a soft wind blow as many as they could over towards wherever the others were carrying them.

Were they able to carry all of them? Probably not. Were they able to carry more than they would if they just used their muscles to lift them one by one? Absolutely.

Nope. None of this is important. Jelena’s life is in danger. Mariette grabbed Jelena and Overcity Shifted away, then immediately portalled for home to get Ronja (healer) to look at Jelena. None of this was important.

That she completely and utterly forgot she had the Queen’s notebook in her hammerspace handbag was a separate issue altogether.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaait for it. At some point it would be Mayra’s perfect time to interfere. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait for it…

Just going to watch Penny and Queenie going at it for a bit.

__________________________________________

Miko and Ronin are going to keep helping keep artillery at bay. They weren’t mentioned by a single being in the last series of posts so guess they can just keep doing that.

‘Waaaait, don’t go! You’ll be hurt!’ In lack of anything else, Miko can try to establish a barrier to block the townsfolk from running panicked straight out into the battle, while Ronin stands and watches her back with sword and more thrown barrier discs.

‘Oh, hey! Beacon! I’m actually glad to see you!’ Ronin called, seeing the Beacon team arrive. I assume she saw them, anyway.

‘You’re right! I’m her friend!’ Jelena answered with a happy grin to the question if she was “Alice”’s friend, and Mariette was relieved Jelena followed along with the “Mariette is apparently Alice” thread.

Mariette’s question of what was next was not properly answered. Setting up an outpost before moving to Penrose. Though, then there was the report about the failure of Dormouse and the OZ Unit. The portal girl was a bit startled when the table went flying, it was such a complete switch in personality from the queen. Then again, on a second thought, it was perhaps not entirely unexpected. Mariette looked at the device on the queen’s arm, it looked important. Of course, Jelena was here to look at it with a Third Eye.

Then… the Queen somehow replicated Mariette’s portal magic using one of her hairs. What was with people somehow reproducing the one thing that made her unique recently?

Then, as the Queen vanished… the pocketbook was left behind.

Jelena was already on it, starting to wander over to look at one of the cleaning servants that were acting. ‘Heeey, what’s the pay around here? Do you do a lot of work? How many hours of free-time do you get?’ Jelena asked as she wandered, and just, you know, coincidentally walked so she blocked the line of sight to the pocket book.

That’s when Mariette dropped it through a portal into her own secure little magical handbag that she has in her perks. With one eye behind her eyepatch, she could portal her sight in that eye to look at the notebook, and then reach to turn the pages with her tentacles inside said hammerspace handbag.

Mariette had to read quickly; she had to place it back as soon as possible. It also occurred to her that this could be a test to see if she was honest or not, and as such she was mentally preparing for a quick escape because if so she had handedly failed the test.

Mayra sliced apart those specific soldiers… but noted that she hadn’t succeeded in dodging the bullets. She spat out the bullet in her mouth and looked down at her lightly bleeding body.

‘Huh,’ Mayra made a curious noise. So, it wasn’t like it was bothering her a lot, 16 vitality and all that, but the fact of the matter was that her leg was hurt and she wasn’t as fast as she thought she was. Though, it did serve as a reminder that maybe she wasn’t as invulnerable as she previously thought. … Mayra shrugged and grinned. ‘Oh, well!’

… … … Way over there… Penny was being confronted with the enemy leader. Mayra was intrigued, and as any curious person that happens to also have no sense of consequences, wanted to get closer. Maybe she could help save Penny’s life. That’d be cool.

Mayra applied her OTHER specialization, Darkness, and hid her presence. It is perhaps easy to forget among all the fireworks, but Mayra also has an assassin’s specialization. With that, she rapidly snook through the battlefield, using pieces of debris and cover to get closer. She just wanted to get closer to where Penny and the Queen was, to be able to launch into the fray as a dramatic unexpected backup.

Yes. That would be really cool, Mayra thought, as she left the defense of the town to the rest.

__________________________________________

‘Huh? Ah!’ Miko made an alarmed sound at suddenly being hit by a piece of burning debris.

‘E- Miko!’ Ronin immediately jumped and along with Miko instinctively healing herself, she also had Ronin on her healing her to the best of her ability.

‘I’m fine. Let’s do something about the bombs,’ Miko told with a stern expression.

‘A, yeah, we can do that!’ Ronin replied, smirking.

Both sisters now turned and looked upwards. Now, the shields the twins could make with their small amount of magic were not enough to hold nor cover everyone, but they had a different use. Ronin and Miko together materialized shields in the shape of discs. Then, as a pair, they spun and

‘Homing barrier discs!’

‘Seek out and destroy the bombs!’

The two of them flung their discs. Supported with a light Air-specialization enchantment, the shields sought out and blew apart the bombs that were being dropped upon their allies. Of course, the shields themselves also broke by the force of the bombs, but that’s why Ronin and Miko didn’t settle for just two. They manifested disc after disc, throwing them out quickly making another to throw that one as well! They didn’t need to make a giant barrier that covered everyone if they just surgically blew out every threat out of the sky!

Now, if everyone else was getting away, then they’d join in but keep covering the sky as best they could!

‘… Well done,’ Mariette said at the decently good shot. Then the queen knocked the head off a soldier’s head, and there was no head. Mariette didn’t particularly react, it was a given that things were magical around here, though Jelena tilted her head to see what kind of magic was being used with her Third Eye. When it came to coming to eat something, Mariette obliged, albeit had Jelena inspect the things she was supposed to be eating first.

‘Can I have some?’ Jelena asked with a smirk, just because. In any case.

Mariette was intending on staying a bit longer. Just long enough to get more information. She’d engage in small talk, trying to find out more about Wonderland and the Queen herself. However, perhaps most importantly, is…

‘… So, what’s next?’ simply that. Concerning me, or other parts of the world. I do happen to know you’re attacking a town right now. May I ask why?’

That might be the most important question, albeit Mariette wouldn’t LEAD with that question, but the minor small-talk before she asks that question isn’t important enough to type down by the letter.

‘Ha!’ Mayra shouted out as she managed to cut part of the scarecrow, but then it escaped behind the giant Tin Man. Mayra wasn’t one to stop moving, but she did come to a halt when she realized the Tin Man was redirecting the water at her.

‘Oh, wa-’ A blazing fire erupted around Mayra and shot up at the water, but flame has less compact form than water and the fire couldn’t quite turn the water into steam quickly enough, so it burst through and soaked Mayra. She didn’t look super-happy about that. Now, she would usually just dodge aside from a giant falling sunflower, but for some reason she didn’t have the time to do that so the giant sunflower fell on top of her.

The giant sunflower stood up later, though. When it did, there was no Mayra there. Instead, there was a hole in the stem of the sunflower, because Mayra had started burning through it to get through on the other side, but then stopped when the sunflower stood up. Instead, there was now a standing sunflower with a hole in it. Mayra’s head stuck out through the hole.

‘Oh, hey, you’re still alive! You’re pretty tough for a flower!’ Now, all the sunflowers had bunched together, and were unleashing a barrage. ‘Hey, I know! Let me help!’ Mayra grinned as she held out her hands, and a blast of fire extended out of both to envelop the cobs and cobs of pellets being launched. But, it wasn’t normal fire. It was magical fire, and it would imbue the attacks from the flowers with the destructive might of FIRE.

‘Nature’s Fury, plus Demonic Fire! FACE OUR MIGHT! HAHAHAHAHA!’ Mayra laughed as she momentarily focused her might into powering up the sunflower barrage.

Albeit, she’d eventually get bored of that. That’s when, in case that scarecrow actually was flung somewhere, Mayra would rocket herself after him like a burning comet of destruction. And if he didn’t, she’d just aim herself at some random Wonderland soldiers and grab a bunch of fire to swing and bash them all with, showing off the combination of her speed and power.

From the side, Mayra glanced a little at what was happening with Penny… cool. But the time wasn’t now. She refocused on what she was doing.

So, just as Ronin and Miko were escorting a couple civilians out a house, there was suddenly a blackout, courtesy of Penny. It did mean there was suddenly a bunch of shouting.

‘Aaaah! It got dark!’ Ronin shouted, a bit happy. So, it was apparently late, so dark it got.

‘Keep calm! We must get them to safety…!’ Miko called, and they refocused on doing that.

Then they got out, and there should have been more houses to focus on… but at this point there were so many clones here helping with the evacuation that their efforts was kind of meaningless. There was just the two of them, so their supposed advantage of being twice as efficient paled significantly.

‘Haha, we were kind of meaningless, eh?’ Ronin asked, chuckling about it.

‘Every little bit helped,’ Miko responded, and they reconvened at the gathering spot… a bomb shelter. Uh.

‘Hold on, is this even going to be safe? Do we have a plan?’ Ronin asked whoever might be close. Because someone around here should probably have a plan.

‘If not, it may be a good idea to move at once…’ Miko also voicing her concern about this situation.

Not concerned in the slightest with paying Hatwington any attention, Jelena took the time to eavesdrop on the conversation of the hooded one and Harry. Though, it sounded like the conversation was simply about how safe it was to have Mariette there, or something like that. Well, good to know that if they tried to transport an army in here, they’d end up in the dungeon. Unfortunately, Jelena’s lack of stealth skills meant she was swiftly discovered. Still, she just smiled happily when Harry came by.

‘He sure did!’ Jelena replied to the question if Hatwington bored her. ‘Anyway, I think I’ve strayed too far from my mistress, she’ll be expecting me to be at her side. I will be returning to her now. See you later!’ As fun as Jelena found playing detective and trying to find out whatever secrets they might have at this place, she was also decently sure it’d mean the end of her adventures for a while ahead and they could likely do any number of bad things to them. That, and she was there to ensure she and Mariette weren’t being affected by external magic. So, she picked herself up with metal magic and floated back to Mariette.

Mariette, meanwhile, was dealing with a woman that was claiming to be her mother. She was increasingly thinking this was a case of mistaken identity. Not that she would bring this to her attention.

‘I…’ Mariette absolutely couldn’t tell her that the only reason she was giving gifts was because she wanted a Lesser Force dolphin to give back her Black Mirror that she’d been commanded to keep track of. Such a greedy motive was surely not befitting the Alice that the queen desired…

‘How long ago was this? What happened? And you… made this dimension for… today?’ Mariette asked, as she also took the time to do her swing on the ball. She was probably pretty distracted, far more interested in what the queen had to say than in the result of the game.

Mariette momentarily attempted to use Absolute Direction at the concept of “Alice, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts”, to see if she was pointed somewhere.

The dragon girl spent some time ducking and weaving aside as to not be hit with anti-tank rounds or whatever those were. Then her mouth opened up when this quartet of destruction showed up. Of course, Mayra was hardly familiar with the story of Dorothy and her unlikely companions so she couldn’t draw the parallel, but what she did see was a bunch of worthy challengers showing up. Mayra grinned.

‘Now we’re talking.’

Finn sent a bull and a bunch of chickens at the lion. Gaia’s plants shot water at the metal giant, and tried to ensnare the armless girl along with Angel of Hope. The green dragon went to attack the same girl. Some other people arrived and someone opened fire on the tin-man, then leapt to strike him.

Guess who was left completely unattended?

The scarecrow, that’s who. Scarecrows should burn pretty easily, right?

Mayra blasted off, directing her arms behind her and blasting fire to send herself off like a blaze of fire. She ran in an arc, because said scarecrow was taking cover behind the giant tin-man. With an eager grin, Mayra raised her claws.

‘HEY, HAYSTACK! DO YOU BUUURN!!??’ she asked, just as she attempted to slice past the scarecrow with a claw blazing and extended with fire-magic, like solidified fire. She was ready to do a blast of fire at him to vault herself sideways if he did some form of counter-attack, but otherwise she intended to slice past his position and then spin around a couple meters later to face her determined quarry, grin on her face.

__________________________________________

‘Woooo! Speed-tiles!’ Ronin grinned as she ran her evacuation a bit faster thanks to Lily’s tiles.

‘So much more to be done…!’ Miko lamented the fact that this was taking a while. All the clones should help out with evacuating the remaining homes faster, but just the pair of Ronin and Miko did their best to reduce that time just a little.

Jelena did her best to dance with the marquis, but knew herself that she was doing awfully. That said, she grinned happily and did her best. When the man said his compliment… Jelena laughed out loud.

‘We both know that’s not true, but thank you for the encouragement! You’re a proper gentleman! Thank you for the dance! I had fun!’ Jelena chuckled but regardless smiled. In her previous life, she’d never had dared to do anything like this, but somehow she felt like any experience she had here didn’t matter, it was utterly impossible for her to ruin her reputation because she had none, so why not, really?

Then this sir Mathias Hatwington showed up, and talked about something that Jelena wasn’t interested in in the slightest and had absolutely no knowledge about. He was discussing about this dude’s theory of something or other, and for the amusements of it, Jelena held up a finger. ‘It is an interesting subject, I must admit. But, and consider the following carefully… What if he’s wrong?’ she asked, sounding supremely serious as she asked.

With the hopes that the academic now was mentally imploding, Jelena used her metal control to make herself gracefully hover right above the floor as to not make noise while walking and also probably make Harry think ‘and why on earth did she not do that earlier while dancing’ if he saw, because Jelena wanted to attempt sneaking near to eavesdrop on that conversation. Now, Jelena has, like, zero stealth skills, but she still wanted to hover in somewhere close where she wanted to hide to listen in, just because. And also prepared to defend herself, just in case.

Mariette, meanwhile, recognized the nature of the game and concluded she didn’t need to focus as much as she’d done on arm-strength, and more on her mental strength, which suited her much, MUCH better. She quickly became much better at the game and perhaps even started having a degree of fun while playing. Albeit…

She was nowhere near prepared for the queen’s next couple of reactions.

Mariette’s eyes widened in surprise as she got hugged, and the queen finished her sentence… and then a whole bunch of tentacles appeared, out of fright, trying to undo the hug and stood ready as if to attack. They didn’t, but the chance was that they’d be taken the wrong way.

‘I-I…’ Mariette stuttered. ‘I need an explanation,’ she said, completely lost for other words. There was no way this was actually her mother, right? Last she knew, her mother would still be living with her abusive father, short one daughter… not that Mariette had been keeping track of them… but it couldn’t be. Did she mean metaphorically? But then… what was the name “Alice”? Because, Mariette’s name hadn’t been Mariette… but it hadn’t been Alice, either.

Mariette was still, awaiting words.’

Mayra, indeed, didn’t really hear Penny. She was far too focused on Kiyome’s replies. Mayra looked just a little disappointed when she heard her new friend (according to herself) wasn’t a dragon turned into a girl like herself, but Mayra quickly brightened herself up. ‘That’s alright! Nobody’s perfect!’ was her thoughts on that.

All those spells and precognition were more than enough to teleport out of Mayra’s claw’s range. Mayra excitedly turned towards Kiyome’s new location, where the girl talked about doing this later.

‘Later!? But I’m excited NOW!’ Mayra replied, still grinning happily.

Taking cover behind Penny seemed to give Mayra pause, however. Mayra was about to just happily launch herself after Kiyome, but with Penny suddenly being there, she didn’t.

‘Oh. I can’t attack you now, because this is not the right time to attack Penny.’ … and apparently that was the only reason she couldn’t attack Kiyome right now. ‘Whelp, guess I’ll just fight the current enemy. Sooo, where do you want me? Hey, let’s all attack at the same time! With the power of our trio, it’s gotta be awesome!’ Mayra laughed, and turned to face the same direction as Penny, ready to battle, amused by the idea of super-fighter-trio herself, Penny and new girl.

‘Hey, green dragon friend! I’m Mayra! What’s your name?’ Mayra asked, preparing to dash into battle. Because green dragon friend hadn’t told her name.

__________________________________________

‘Woah, we need to speed up!’ Ronin called about the incoming artillery.

‘Keep a personal shield up, sister!’ Miko called, and the two of them kept going. They followed Lily’s instructions of leaving the villagers in the front yard, while otherwise hurrying to grab civilians and get them out of the respective houses. All the while, they kept personal Reinforcement shields ready just in case they got unlucky with the artillery.

‘Ooooh, yes! Aren’t you handsome and commanding? Sure, let’s dance!’ Jelena said, kind of amused to be part of this so utterly different scene compared to her normal life. She was a bit embarrassed, but hey, yolo, you know? So, she let herself be guided by Harry, and smiled widely as she did her best to dance. She’d practiced, you know!? Albeit, her skills were likely lacking, that said she was more than enthusiastic in her efforts!

Though, never did her real purpose escape her. She was here to keep an eye out for strange magic, on either herself, Mariette or their surroundings. Sure, the balls were enchanted, but as long as they weren’t affecting Mariette Jelena gave them a pass. It was a magical world, who is to say their games can’t be magical as well? She every so often took her eyes off Harry to look in Mariette’s direction, but then looked right back at him, because this was kind of exciting. No way she’d actually let it lead anywhere, but it was kinda exciting.

Mariette, meanwhile, had to frown slightly at the size of these croquet balls. Knowing she’d go croquetting, she’d obviously researched the sport and went for a couple practice-rounds. However, while the rules were the same, the equipment differed significantly. All she could do was to grab the croquet and do her best not to disappoint the queen. Given her aim was still better than an average person and she had tiny portals to confirm the direction she was aiming, it was possible she’d still do alright… albeit she didn’t know how much force she was supposed to put into her swings, and she probably wasn’t very consistent in her swings.

She picked up the mallet, focused tightly, and then swung, and happened to have assumed the balls were super-heavy and as such probably used way more force than needed. It likely went through one hoop, but then rolled way away and Mariette looked on helplessly as she knew she’d have to head after it, probably. She’d have to do better to not disappoint the queen… probably.

That said, the queen’s words…

‘I know how I ended up there. It was not by my choice,’ Mariette replied. ‘I was born in a pit. I had to try living in it, with the master of that pit…’ That, being her father. ‘When I decided to escape, I was about to stumble back into that pit… when the master of another, far more powerful pit took me and took me under his cloak.’ That, being Asengav.

‘I have wondered about what I would do if I was free. However, the answer eludes me. All my life I’ve been in these pits. Trying to imagine life outside them feels… unnatural. Like an existence without purpose. I don’t know what I’d do without a purpose.’ It’s been something somewhat troubling for her. She’s seen the lives of other people. Of regular, as well as magical people. However, all of it felt so lacking in scale and purpose. Just existing day after day, possibly fighting monsters… It felt like it would get repetitive.

That said, she was seeking that life. It had to be better than the pit she was in right now. She’d figure out what the purpose was when she got there. Of course, she did not tell the queen this. For all she knew, she may just go directly to Asengav and tell on her. It was ammunition she was not willing to provide her.

Penny contacted Mayra through the headset. Challenged her into seeing who could take out the most of Wonderland’s Goons. That, and keep them away from the sunflowers. Mayra was mildly aware she was probably being manipulated. That said, it aligned with her current goal of tearing the enemy forces a new one, so she just grinned.

‘You’re on,’ she stated back.

So she cut through the Wonderland soldiers, showing nary any mercy and relishing in the violence as she blasted herself towards another and decimated that unit, too. Some managed to hit her with their rifles, but honestly the pain just served to edge Mayra on further, the girl grinning as she shot some fire out her body to blast the bullets out of her scales before slicing through the next one. No, it didn’t particularly occur to her to avoid causing a fire in the fields.

Mayra got to see Gaia powering up the plants. The corn-missiles looked absolutely hilarious and the dragon-girl had to take a brief pause to laugh. ‘Hahaha… Corn-missiles… Hahaha!’ Then Connie stepped up, and did a wave of nightmarish energy… and Mayra raised her arms in support with a wide grin. ‘Yeeeaaah! Face the power of scary friend! You’re awesome, scary friend! Woooo!’ she shouted in support.

Then her attention was drawn to a new arrival. A girl had attacked a turret, and promptly dealt with the forces gathered around her. Mayra inspected her for a bit… then her eyes widened. Her expression went blank for a second.

Then she was no longer standing there.

A comet flew across the battlefield, a ball of fire that was Mayra propelling herself across the battlefield. An echoing voice followed along as the comet homed in directly at the newly arrival.

‘DDDDDDDDDRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNN---------------!!!!!!!!!’

Kiyome might suddenly realize there’s a fireball spearheaded by a black-scaled fiery dragon girl looking towards her with a face of sheer, frantic excitement, arms raised, not in attack, but in preparation to hug. There was a rocket-powered, super-high speed and probably ridiculously dangerous glomp intending to grab her and keep all the momentum as, if it impacted, both individuals would be sent rolling a hundred meters or so away from the battle while Mayra held on tightly to her… or if she dodged then it’d just be Mayra.

Regardless, Mayra would be up again soon. If she hit she’d just still hold onto her but on a slight distance so they could talk, or if she missed it’d be while she was excitedly running back to her. She’d be saying stuff either way.

‘Dragon! You’re another dragon-girl, aren’t you!? Are you like me!? Are you like me!? Dragon that was turned into a girl? Oooh, that is so cool! I’m Mayra, also a dragon-girl! I bet you could tell! Do you serve a horror, too? Oooh, I am so happy to have met you! Can I be your friend? I want to be your friend! I love your tail! So sleek and elegant! What are your powers? I can do a whole lot of fire, and I’m really strong, too! Wait, don’t tell me! I want to find out while I fight you! And I want to fight you! Right now! I want to measure our strengths! Can I fight you? I’m going to fight you! I want to see what you can do! Let’s fight, friend!’ Mayra said, words streaming from her mouth as her face looked absolutely covered in joy.

With that, she’d either jump back and take a battle stance if she was holding onto Kiyome or just assume the stance when she got close enough if she missed. ‘Alright, here I go!’

Mayra was absolutely intending to launch herself directly at Kiyome and attempt to slice with a super-heated claw from overhead with a super-excited expression, having utterly, utterly forgotten about the battle that was going on or any bets she might have had with Penny.

‘Alright! Let’s go help evacuate!’ Ronin called, encouraged by Annabell’s enthusiasm.

‘We take every other house, I’ll take the first!’ Miko called. With that, Miko headed for the first home in the row while Ronin ran for the second one, and they’d each take half the houses on their row taking every other house each, in order to rescue the villagers and get them to safety! Two tiny girls spearheading their evacuation.

And that’s about it. Obviously ready in case they needed to heal or block anything.

‘Heeey, I saw that! My voice isn't that bad, is it!? I trained for this! Hmpf!’ Jelena responded moderately negatively to Harry’s change of mannerism, which probably didn't help his impression of her.

‘Remember why you're here,’ Mariette whispered once again, her gaze sharpening as the Queen of Hearts made herself apparent.

‘Yeah, yeah, Jelena sighed, because she had actually been looking forward to dancing. But, she smiled sweetly at him. ‘Soy-y! As Mariette's attendant, I must be at her side as she engages in croquet. But, like, if we dance next to the game? Otherwise I could give you my number for later~’ Jelena giggled as she said, the elegant mannerism she was emulating falling somewhat.

Mariette, meanwhile, turned fully to the Queen of Hearts. Strangely enough, she wasn't shy… until the Queen said "don't be shy". Then a dose of apprehension went through her. For some reason, Mariette was addressed "Alice". She didn't understand, but she supposed she'd roll with it.

‘So we do, your majesty…’ Then came an odd question, as Mariette accepted the croquet and held it for Jelena to inspect momentarily for magic. ‘I… come from a pit of darkest despair.’ This held true, regardless of which pit she considered her beginning. ‘And while I have several destinations in mind, I don't know which I will be heading for yet. It depends on the opportunities this world gives me… and possibly what you have to say,’ she said, trying to avoid being exact because maybe fairy-tale people like that. Maybe.

She'd be willing to move to the intended croquet grounds. She'd studied the basics of croquet for this!

Mayra grinned happily that Angel would accept her hand, despite the obvious threat to her well-being. Sure, there was a protective glove on said hand, but it had1+still been a fun experiment.

‘Warm, indeed, Angela! Let's get along well!’ she wished, and gave the angel a name based on the word “Angel”, because obviously she couldn’t call her any of the options the angel herself had offered. The dragon-girl then was probably among the ones who got an earpiece. She'd had such before, albeit not from people other than those on Mariette’s side. She immediately pressed the button.

‘Heeey, can you all hear me right now? That's pretty cool!’ Mayra said loudly right into the microphone, and then smirked widely before actually equipping it.

They then went to the town in question, and there was a hurt Magical Girl. Not that Mayra cared much. The dragon-girl knew she was not in charge of taking care of the wounded. She was in charge of…!

‘Which side is the enemy?’ Mayra asked before unceremoniously blasting herself off towards the battlefield like a firebolt out of a cannon. She held her arms out at her sides, and fire poured out of her claws, taking magical shape like blades of fire extending out of each of her fingers.

‘CHAAAAAA!!’ Mayra leapt into battle, swinging both arms to slice her claws of fire through her enemies and then spin and fire-blast herself from enemy to enemy and wreak as much carnage as possible!

And if someone hadn't told her who to attack, she'd just go for all eligible targets without discrimination, like those sunflowers.

So, people were jumping through the portal now, and they, of course, had to follow suit. Ronin, however, took a look towards Penny and then jumped over to whisper a bit to her, after Mayra had left.

‘So, the whole saving Mariette thing. It’s lower priority, but it could extend to the rest of her posse. Me and Miko don’t really have anything else to do right now, so guess we’ll probably be looking into that!’ she said. Miko, able to guess what’s being said, skipped in to whisper, too.

‘It’s a bit more dangerous, though, for if they realize what we’re doing they might look into if we’ve already been successful, so, maybe we should be careful not to endanger Mariette. Like, if we unbrainwashed Mayra, everyone would know within the hour,’ Miko cautioned.

‘Ah, that’s a good point,’ Ronin nodded, hadn’t thought of that.

‘Now let’s go while the portal is still open,’ Miko said, and Ronin agreed and they skipped to get through the portal. They were now at risk of having to buy ice cream for everyone.

They arrived, and they quickly realized people were in trouble. There was an army coming down, after all.

‘Wooo, what are our chances when fighting?’ Ronin asked. The two wouldn’t move until the rest decided on a course of action.

‘If it’s evacuating villagers, we can get on that right now,’ Miko said. The two of them were not very powerful in a fight, normally, but if it was helping villagers there were two of them with double efficiency!

Mariette and Jelena arrived at the location, and immediately Mariette started looking around with small portals behind her eyepatch looking in various directions. Regardless, she was here to be part of the festivities, albeit always ready to Overcity Shift at first sign of distress. She did want to hear what they maybe had to say to her. She had a focused nod as the servant announced their arrival.

Jelena smirked eagerly as she looked around the area, and was surprised when Marquis Harry here took her hand. She smirked again, taking one hand on her dress and curtsied gently.

‘My, I thank you so kindly for this warm welcome…’ Jelena said, her voice not quite as elegant as her current mannerism. Besides being a weeb and looking the part, she didn’t actually have experience with parties and balls or such.

‘Keep your wits about. They might be trying to put a spell on you. You know why you’re actually here,’ Mariette whispered through a portal directly into Jelena’s ear.

‘Of course~’ Jelena replied, to both Mariette’s statement and to Harry’s question. ‘I’m Jelena. You’re free to accompany us~’ she continued, smiling happily at him with Third Eye gazing around her, for using that to look out for spells cast upon them was her number one reason for being here.

Mariette turned to gaze at who the more prominent figure might be. Otherwise, she’d simply follow the flow and see where they were expected to head.

‘Hiii! Connie, Mia! Let’s save the world together!’ Mayra grinned at her friends and waved at them over there. Then she was surprised when Lily ran over to grab her hand.

Now, Mayra is fully capable of regulating her own body-temperature to be safe for anyone who might touch her. However, a random impulse in her brain made her, like, not when Lily grabbed her hand. It wasn’t because she meant anything ill towards Lily, she just saw an opportunity to burn someone and get away with it.

‘Heeey, warn me next time!’ Mayra grinned at Lily shaking her hands around. There was a bunch of boosts that Mayra didn’t really feel she need, but her attention was grabbed by the flowery speech of the angel that seemed so very prim and proper. It made her wonder. Wonder a lot.

‘Heeey, I don’t think we met! I’m Mayra, fire dragon! Pleased to meet ya!’ Mayra said, holding out a hand for the Angel of Hope while grinning widely. The hand was still just as hot as when Lily touched it, which Angel likely could see just looking at it. Mayra just wanted to hear the angel give an overly flowery excuse for not shaking the offered hand. It would also be informative (and hilarious) to see her be absolutely compelled to shake the hand anyway. Or if she’d shield her hand with a barrier or whatever, whatever reaction she had would be a success in Mayra’s book~! Both informative and hilarious~!

Anyway! After Angel’s reaction and likely Mayra’s reaction to it, it was time to go!

‘Alright! Here we go! A one-way-portal to wherever-we-were-going!’ Mayra said, spinning around and placing a hand on her chest… because the magic gem had been quickly operated into Mayra’s body by Ronja after Mariette brought it to her. Mariette had already put the destination into the gem, all Mayra had to do was power it. This did not prevent Mayra from putting on a show of summoning magic power and letting some escape in the form of heat as she put her own fire magic on top of the portal magic. She pulled her scaley arm back, let it be engulfed in flames, and then…

‘HYAH!’ she punched forward, and a blast of fire coursed through the air before exploding at a specific point, and after the fire settled the portal sprung open in the location as Mariette’s magic took over. All that theatrics Mayra just did was 100% meaningless, she just felt like doing it anyway to make it look more like she did it.

‘There you go! Now through it, when it closes I can’t open it again!’ Mayra said with a grin, intent on letting others jump through and then jumping through after.

‘Hm. That, is Mayra, one of Asengav’s champions…’

‘What are you thinking, dear sister?’

‘Our quest is to save Mariette, but it would be cool if we could save a couple more of Asengav’s champions, too.’

‘It needed a couple of extraordinary circumstances and a whole slew of allies just for the possibility of saving Mariette. Saving more of them would be a lot more work.’

‘I realize, but, like, what if?’

‘To do that, we’d need someone able to remove brainwashing again. Like Janet and Jenna did.’

‘Hm. Perhaps difficult to arrange on short order. Oh, well! Better just keep our wits about and take any chance we get!’

‘For now, we probably should lay low and just follow whaAAAAAAAAAAA-!’

Ronin and Miko’s little whispering contest was suddenly interrupted by a burst of lightning that sent both their hairs standing straight and both of them spun at attention to the scene at hand.

‘Ronin!’ Ronin called her name, smiling happily at the little dose of adventure. Also the burst of energy she just got!

‘And Miko!’ Miko followed up, because why not. She was a tad more startled.

‘Ready to help save the day!’ Ronin called happily.

‘Right, let’s go!’ Miko nodded.

Yupp, the two samurai/whatever Japanese-inspired western girls were ready to roll!
