Marinalia (Romus) Olympus
Old Sol Airport race testing.
Saturday Morning
Marinalia looped round a couple of times and slowed down banking into the wind slightly for extra resistance bringing the flaps to a slow descent down to the runway. The extreme serris of G forces and tight movements of the aircraft had thrown up her head, even an experienced pilot could only do it so many times before you felt it. Banking in slowly and hitting the radio switch on the controls to the ground section.
“Ground, coming into land, southern approach.
Great race guys, that was a close one!
Engines running hot, tell the mechanic to let it cool before parking it. ” Coming into land and throttling down on the runway they far too long for her small aircraft and keeping it a few feet off the ground for most of the way before dropping it and coming to a halt near the group safely cutting the engines and waiting for the mechanics to put the chocks on the wheels. Climbing out talking to the mechanic and passing on the engine heat issue. The final run she had dialed up the fuel mix for more power and speed at expense of heat, the smaller engine will was not meant entirely to run that hard for a sustained period.
Heading over to the group and hugging her aunt and family who had gathered waiting collecting her coffee off Marla and Sipping the overly sweet beverage. Looking over and seeing a rather triumphant Joel, her aunt looking sour and Tommy laughing with her grandfather, it was a slightly surreal scene. The older man seemed impressed that the car did live up to its billing.
“seems you have your sponsorship. My granddaughter is excellent pilot Mr Lormax, though I am naturally biased.
Most impressive display gentlemen.
Im Afraid Mr Nicolosi. i do not carry that much cash, They have electronic transfers these days, im not from the times of Homer and the iliad, you might want to try it sometime. ” Her Grandfather directing a small bard back at the driver, his daughter had been harsh but she still was his daughter. Keeping his cool, he decided that was enough, a quick email on the flight back to the city and the Finance department would handle it in the morning on Monday.
Marla deciding to keep quiet out of diplomacy decided that picking up a fight with the racing driver was a bad idea, the men should be able to bond over there love of over fancy toys with hitch power engines, that cost way too much money. Vesarian quiet and watching decided that the car would definitely be approved by the bosses, the racing cars where not exactly there normal business but they needed something to create some better headlines. Seeking in a cooler Russian tinged English from years with a Russian crew.
“I will tell my bosses that this seems like we would be wise to invest. My daughter almost won two of two so my bias is happy.
Come on Marla, let's get a coffee ” Deciding trouble was best avoided and heading off to the office nearby with Marla and avoid the brewing explosive argument between the racing driver and Marla. Marinalia walking over and noticing Joel being abit of a ass about winning. It seemed there was defenitely abit of the tension between the two, Tommy was the diplomat, Joel the firey aggressive one.
“thanks Grandpa, our racing friends seem to have us at a draw, Thanks for letting me have abit of fun, Tommy, wait, jazz disaster, at the bar. Now I know where I place you. Glad you got out OK.
You drive fast. Just not fast enough!
See ya, coffee just inside the door“Turning to Joel, rather much happier after the racing and high speed laps, even if the thought of food was not entirely positive. Sipping on her coffee happily, rather sweet but it was a nice treat.
“Hey Joel, seems team ground had it by a fraction of a second.
You won, though I'd of had you if the straight was a little longer. Seems we at a draw, my engine needs to cool down after the last run
So, what you going to do about it, team Tyres? ”
Teasing him a little she smiled and undid her pony tail from flying leaving the flight helmet in the helicopter swapping over to a pair of vintage aviators in the bright morning sunshine. Watching the teams begin to take down they air pylons, they had to get the airport back clear and they took a while to deflate and store.
Noticing the other team members scattered about, she was feeling elated at the racing, adrenaline still taking a while to disparate. Giving him a kiss on the cheek and laughing slightly knowing it would definitely throw a few cats among alot pigeons.
“I'm short of handkerchiefs so that will have to do. ” Watching out corner of sunglasses she saw a look the older man's eyes who looked related telling her Joel was not going to be hearing the last of that moment for a while. Could not let him get away with beating her scot free.
