Most vaccines take years - and I mean, like, 7-10 is normal - to develop. The vaccines developed didn't poison people and so despite their limited efficacy, they were sent to market years early.

Considering the status bar usually is fairly comforting, it IS a little surprising it's being so unsympathetic. Can't comment on the actual situation, reminds me too much of a past shitty roommate.

And this is the part where I need to decide if I'm going to destroy the compass or not. It might be really useful to have the tracking spell already good to go, but Abberline might then come back for it. Him getting it back is not an option in my eyes.

Mitra catches the compass with some caution, lest his talons scratch or impale the toy item. His focus was on not dropping the item - and so he looks up a little too late to realize Abberline is pointing a gun at him and Kendra.
He has no idea if Kendra's alright - he can feel the bullets attempt to pierce his hide before ultimately dropping. He's been knocked back a few inches, and he's going to bruise badly, he knows this from past experience. Just because he received the wound as a demon didn't keep the wounds from manifesting when he turned back into a human. Why had the ghost thrown the compass to him?
Yes, he gets whiny when hurt. Sue him.
He hisses loudly, baring his teeth as he does, and then spits his corrosive venom, aiming at Abberline's arm. He really doesn't enjoy getting shot, and he has no desire to get shot again.
Yeah that's what I suspected. REALLY glad I took that defensive move now.
We had decent luck up until we got shot at. Clearly there's a connection.

Rolled a 5. Luck had to run out somewhere. I'd like to argue briefly the odds of Abberline having holy bullets is low? Well, having them loaded I mean.
